Firewire extension cable

Is there a firewire extension cable/adapter I can use with iSight?

You're welcome, Miles,
All I need to know is how long the SightFlex firewire cable is.
I do not use SightFlex, and I can no longer find it for sale on the web, so I cannot verify its "specifications." However, according to the third paragraph of this link, SightFlex's cable is 20 inches long.

  • Isight firewire extension cable

I need a 10 foot (or 3 meter) firewire cable that will fit the isight holder. Apple refers to this as a thin firewire and it must be able to snap in the transistion piece between the camera and the stand. Most aftermarket cables are too thick due to rubber caldding around plug. Has anybody found such a cable that fits??? Or maybe cut down the rubber to make it fit ? I am familiar with hubs and repeaters and it appears that firewire depot sells a male/female extension, but i'm looking for just the simple solution of a single cable.

OK, so I've found a solution that, while not as simple and elegant as a single cable, solves my problem. After looking at male/ female cables at venders like L-COM.COM( which also sells a nifty shielded panel connector that also can act as a connector between the apple cable and an after market cable), I decided that this would work best with the short apple isight firewire cable so as not to go beyond the recommended distance for firewire without a repeater. Well, these short cables aren't cheap(20.00 to 30.00 bucks). Then add the male/ female aftermarket cable($ 30.00) and it's starting to add up. I also looked at doing a little grinding to the apple mount or adapter(depending on which you use) and shaving down the rubber overmolding on a aftermarket cable, and this looked like it might work. But the final solution was to buy a Griffin sightlight($20.00 through Amazon) that has a real short female receptical that allows me to use any 10 foot cable I wish. This way I spent the least amount of money and got a useful accessory to boot !!

  • Firewire 800 extension cable?

Hi, I am looking for a firewire 800 extension cable to use for when I switch my external hard drive between my mini and laptop. The mini is up and out of the way and would be easier if the extended from the computer instead of reaching to the back of the computer. I looked on the apple store and search the internet and did not find one yet. I know they have them for USB because I have one, so I was hoping there was one somewhere for FW800. Has anyone seen some place selling them?

That hub could work for some thing else, do you have a link for that?
well, i got that from a German site: http://www.partsdata.de/Firewire--Firewirerepeater_HUBs_switches_panels--Firewire_800_HUBs__gbshop2201.html.
they do ship within Europe ...

  • Male 30 pin to female 30 pin extension cable

Does anyone know who makes a male 30 pin to female 30 pin extension cable or converter. Can't find one online and the reps at the Apple store were not helpful. I can't attach any accessories that need to be flush with the 60g IPod (such as the FM Transmitter, docking station) without taking it out of the case which increases the chance of scatching it.
    Thx

If you just want something to lift the iPad a little and make it charge with other older style firewire based chargers, maybe you want this -> Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPhone 3G
A quick Google search shows results for the male to female 30-pin extension you described.

  • Minimal extension cable for 30" display and macbook

I want to use the 30" Cinema display with my macbook, and my macbook wants to be in my lap. This is incompatible with the medussa's head of cords coming out of the video cable and the display's power brick. All I need is about 4 more feet of extension for video cable ONLY -- I don't need to connect the firewire and USB cords from the monitor to my macbook. So my question is this: what is the minimal cord I need to extend just the dual-link dvi output a little farther from the power brick? Do I really need to spend $300 for the fancy 10 meter cables I see when I search for "DVI extension cable" ??
    Thoughts or advice, anyone?

You can get a 3' or 6' dual-link DVI cable here for $30 or $40.
    <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/cables/hdmi_dvi.jsp#dvidl>
Unfortunately it is male to male so you will need an adapter such as
    <http://www.worldofcables.com/oscatalog/CablesProduct/ADP-3770.htm>
There may be cheaper ones, but make sure you get dual-link.

  • Optimum extension cabling for 20-inch Cinema

I need to add up to 2 meters distance between my MacPro and my 20 inch cinema display.
Is there an extension cable on the market that combines the video/firewire/USB cables and thereby accomodate the original cable, or
Do I have to extend these cables separately?
I ran across a 3 meter extension for the video cable? Can I just connect this up and expect it to work or will some kind of booster or other active component be required?
Can firewire & USB be extended 2-3 meters without ill effects?
My ideal is a 2 meter extender cable that mates perfectly with the 3 functions in the original cable, and you just connect it up and go ... is this possible?

Thanks. Your reference puts me on the right trail.
The cited reference seems to imply there's a non-active version of the apple combo cable that would work for the 20 inch cinema ... but I'll be damned if I can find it. Hopefully I can get some direct feedback from Geffen about it.
Careful measurements show that I really only need to extend my original combo cable 3 feet. Are you proposing that I just use one of their 'copper' DVI extension cables, a gender adapter and separately buy extensions for the USB and Firewire.

  • Mini DVI to VGA Adapter w/ extension cable

I would like to get a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter for my macbook. Does anyone know how it would would if I used it with a VGA extension cable. Any experience will be helpful

Depends on how long the cable is, and if it was of sufficient quality for computer use. The higher resolutions require better quality and shorter cables. You may get some signal loss for long cables. A standard monitor cable that comes with a computer monitor should be fine, but what kind of length extension cable are you talking about?

  • Mini-DVI extension cable?

Has there ever been such a thing as a mini-DVI extension cable?
I use an external monitor with my MacBook, so I have to use the mini-DVI to VGA adaptor. The problem is that I now have this big bulky VGA connector sitting on my desk just to the left of my MacBook.
I figured that I would simply go buy a mini-DVI extension cable that would allow me to get the VGA connectors off of my desk. However, I have searched all over the Internet and found that such a cable does not exist.
The only thing that comes close is a 1.8 meter Male-to-Male mini-DVI cable available from shentec.com (http://www.shentech.com/apmitomimato.html). But of course I need a Male-to-Female cable.
Since the mini-DVI connector is primarily only used by Apple, it would be nice if Apple would build and sell mini-DVI extension cables in 2 or 3 varying lengths.

    Dang...
I tried to see if CablesToGo could make a mini-DVI extension cable and this was their reply:
{quote} +"Unfortunately we cannot build a cable like that. It is an Apple proprietary connection that we cannot obtain.+
    +We apologize for any inconvenience. "+{quote}
I'll have to try some other companies...maybe newertech.com and Dynex. Anyone know of other companies that could make this cable?

  • Iphone 4 not being recognized with the extension cable

My Iphone 4 is not being recognized with the Apple extension cable in my new Nissan Juke so the phone has to be kept in the glovebox due to the very short cable Nissan provides. This is frustrating since the phone gets noticeably worse reception in the glovebox. Does anyone know of a fix for this so I can run a longer cable extension and run the phone out of the glovebox? Mabye a different extension cable or longer cable that works with Nissan's set up?

I don't think it is the cable. I have tried plugging the cable into the USB cable that came with the phone and the extension cable works fine with it. I guess this really is just some screwy stuff with Nissan.

  • RCA Extension Cable - Male to Female a make that fits Inspire 5.1 speakers?

    Hi
I want to extend the distance between my speakers and the subwoofer. I believe I have a Creative Inspre 5200 system. I bought some RCA male female extension cables but the male nad female ends were too long and did not fit either the jack on the end of the speaker cable or the input into the subwoofer.
Can any one male any recommendations or provide sources to buy cable with the correct fitting male female ends?
    many thaaks
    Shelsey Walsh

Creative offers many speaker systems that will fit your needs, without decoder.
You mentioned the Inspire 5700 system; this system comes with a decoder/amplifier, and wouldnt actually be what you'r looking for.
If your looking for awesome sound-quality, and good power, I can recommend the 5.1 Megaworks system, though this system can get quite expensive, you'll get what you pay for.
The megaworks (like "all" other creative speaker systems, got a built in amplifier in the subwoofer, where you connect all the speakers.)
To connect the speakers to the DVD-player, you connect the multichannel output on the DVD-player, to the multichannel input on the back of the subwoofer. (three stereo minijack inputs.)
You may need some RCA-to-minijack adapters, so that the multichannel audio cable that comes with the megaworks, will fit on your DVD-players output.

  • MAC PRO USB Problem - Traced to bad Apple Keyboard Extension Cable

I found a fix to a problem synching to my itunes Library on my early 2008 MAC PRO.   The Apple supplied USB extension cable for the keyboard was defective.
The symptoms were hangs in itunes and finder synching to iPods and transferring data to USB hard drives. The iPods and hard drives never lost power and no errors/log entries were made. The transfers simply stalled and would not continue. itunes and finder would hang until the drive or ipod was removed. These devices were installed directly to USB ports on the MAC PRO. No other USB devices were connected except for the aluminum keyboard and mighty mouse; the mouse was connected to the keyboard. The keyboard was connected using the USB extension cable that shipped with the MAC PRO.
Hardware diagnostics were all clear. The keyboard and mouse never had any connection problems. Only itunes syncs and hard drive copies would fail; these would occur at random times. I had an open ticket with Apple to have the logic board replaced as it was diagnosed to be a hardware/USB problem.
Removal or replacement of the extension cable on the keyboard (which was connected to a different USB port and NOT in the USB chain with the ipod and hard drives) permanently fixed the problem. I cancelled the Apple HW replacement.
I have noted several posts with others having problems with USB ports and devices. I wonder if Apple has an unknown problem with bad keyboard extension cables.

I think you may be onto something there. I'm just a few weeks into my second Mac Pro and again it's having the same USB problems which led Apple to give me a replacement machine previously. I went through several weeks of considerable testing with Apple Engineers prior to that - an Apple Care application to collect data from my machine, Apple Developer USB prober and two clean installs. The latest machine initially showed no sign of the problem then it started again - 2 iPods "can not be read or written to" part way through sync, Aperture quitting importing from USB SD card reader, USB drives dismounting etc. So I pulled out the Aluminium keyboard and, lo and behold, the iPods managed to get all the way through synching without errors. I really like the alu keyboard so it's a huge shame that it might be the cause of all my problems so far - and the Mac Pro is otherwise a beautiful computer.
But is this really a hardware problem of the internal USB cards and power management or supply?

  • The Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 cable?

I have a JVC digital video camera, and have lost some of the cables. Will a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 cable connected with a Firewire 800 - Firewire 400 cable (same as ieee1394?) transfer the videos to my MacBook Air?

The Thunderbolt to FW 800 cable provides a FW800 port that you can plug into. You can see what it looks like here.  If you have a FW cable that will connect to your camera and terminates in a FW800 plug, that should work.

I recently purchased a shutter release remote for my IPAD camera but the cord is only three feet long and I need an extension cord.  I purchased a 3 banded AV extension but it doesn't work.  I have been told that I need an extension cord that has AV and Mic to enable the remote shutter release to work with the extension cord.  Can anyone tell me what the correct extension cable is and where I can find one?  Thanks.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • 30" Cinema Display P/S Extension Cable

Has anyone here heard of an extension cable to allow the power supply ( 'brick' ) to be located anywhere else besides the end of the cable that comes out of the back of the Display itself?
It has a magical connector that nobody I've talked to seems to know anything about... trying to run two monitors and get the clutter off the desk...

Looking for the same thing. My power brick has to sit on the desk next to the powerbook. Not optimal.

  • Can USB extension cable from nano burn out tower's USB port?

I recently plugged my 1GB nano into my Mac flatscreen's USB port and got a message that this port was too slow. I used it anyway but it did take a looong time to charge the nano. Normally I use the two ports in the screen to park a couple of dongles and since that port is slow for iPod purposes , I decided to buy an unpowered USB hub, 1 to 4 variety to run from the tower.
My G4 is in a closet with a not-so-accessible port on the back so I have a 6 foot extender cable coming from the tower which connects to the hub and from there I plug in my camera and keyboard - but so far not the nano. The guy at the store where I got the hub told me that an iPod nano recieving power from this settup might burn out the USB port in the back of my G4. So I haven't tested that! Anyone know if this is true or if it's just uniformed blather from a drugstore computer sales tech?

The "too slow" message you received has nothing to do with how long it takes to charge the Nano, it is telling you it will take longer to sync the Nano. If the port on the screen charged your Nano it didn't take any longer than any other port will.
A USB extension cable will not burn out the USB port on your computer.
