Firewire never worked

I bought the imac late 2009
After more than a year I tried to attach my Canon MV900 camcorder via firewire cable, but the system (imovie 10 and 11) does not see
I tried both running Snow Leopard Lion but same problem
The same camera attached to another PC with Ubuntu works perfectly.
Unfortunately it does not work
I believe that my firewire port is damaged
I tried everything
I also made these 2 procedures (_SMC RESET_ and _PRAM RESET_) but does not work
I'm desperate
I have to capture the footage with other non-mac pc
Is there some other procedure or have to open a HD failure?

Difficoult to say. Probably not but you can never be sure.
THe FW and USB ports as other devices inside Mac have some "self controls" which "deactivates" them if there is a surcharge of similar problems. This come often to a wrong diagnosis that the ports are demaged.

    hi,
    i had two problems with my audigy 2 using windows xp:
    a) my firewire port didnt appear to work. i had only one device using firewire which was my creative jukebox zen. i could only transfer 95% of the first mp3 and then it would say that my mp3 player is not responding.
    b) i experienced random and temporary freezes, not only while gaming but even when writing e-mails. everything would hang for a few seconds and then continue to work like if you write text it will appear after the hang.
    firewire: i used my audigy 2 in my old pc with windows me and win 2000 without any problems. neither with firewire nor with the eax4 driver patch. under win xp i could only transfer mp3s via usb and that is slow as hell as you can imagine. i first tried if transfers using the firewire port on my mobo worked but it didnt, same prob. i found a fix from microsoft that is not listed in windowsupdate at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en (KB885222). that did not solve this issue but maybe you need that too so I mention it here. then i found some new drivers on the creative site. "oh you fool, why didnt you say earlier that you're using old drivers?" someone might say but these drivers dont work or more specifically, its setup routine sux. it quits with "an error occurred". wow cool... but it appears as it unpacks the driver to c:\program files\creative\jukebox3 or something (note, i have a zen and not a jb3...) so I uninstalled everything, rebooted and told the device manager manually to get the drivers from that location. now it works.
    freezes: it took me many, many hours to search the internet, but i found absolutely nothing. sure i'm using the latest drivers (yea they actually work), put the card in slot3 and stuff. then i found a post on this board that mentioned that this guy's audigy had a heat problem. it became too hot and hung. hmm. i have 2x 2cm fans sucking heat out of the box through the radiator of my water cooling so heat is actually mostly get rid of through water and whatever else produces heat (harddisc, video card ram etc) is cooled by some really strong air flow. so wth, this card has worked for almost 2 years in my old box. so i opened the case and saw that air circulation around the audigy was impossible as its sandwitched by two other cards. those parts that i was able to touch were not that hot but i dont know how hot the main chip became and i have no clue why a sound card can become too hot from playing an mp3... anyway, i have left my case open and since then i havent had any freezes. now i also know why the freezes suddenly appeared and not since after i setup my box 3 months ago: it was open until i had cut a hole for the radiator...
    oh yea, its good that my expensi've creative stuff works and that it was not creative's fault but that of a moron of a user. now honestly, how is an average user supposed to get their product working when the knowledge base is totally outdated and gives advice such as "update your bios, get the latest drivers and dont put your card into the microwave", when mods in this forum give advice like the knowledge base and the driver is not even installable? creative products are not bad at all, they're not cheap at all too. but the support page is absolutely not informati've and the knowledgebase does not give solutions to known issues. i was never ever able to find anything useful there and i'm really really not an average user but a very experienced one. not everyone wants to use a pre-installed dell box with el-cheapo components. i like to put my own high-end rig together and things must be pushed to the limit BUT still be absolutely rock solid. let me list my recent experience with creative products during the past 2 years:
    -) bought an inspire 6. surround system and even replaced my audigy with version 2 for it. but unfortunately the subwoofer had a problem. it randomly made a popping noise which was so loud that it pushed your adrenaline level to that of a base jumper. i then found out that the whole batch had some faulty component. at least i got a replacement within a week, so i thought "yea, great support".
    -) bought a jukebox zen, 20gb with firewire. it worked great for almost a year. then it died. when i switched it on, only the creative logo appeared, thats it. recovery mode was inaccessible too. it took me 2 months to convince the support lady to let me return this junk. first they sent me a new adapter because maybe it was damaged and the battery was low and therefore it didnt work anymore... then i was told, ok you can have a new one but we dont have firewire versions in stock anymore. you can have a usb one now or you wait until we get the firewire zen again. i said wtf, you produce this so why dont you have them in stock? and the usb version is sure not an equivalent to my firewire player. woot after 2 months i got a new mp3 player... had to rip 250 cds again (i really prefer having originals) and copy them to the player, but ok, i'm happy again. no, i'm not. this one doesnt work properly either. everytime i dont use the player for more than 24 hours i have to rebuild the database and scan the harddisc. that takes about 0 minutes for like 3000 songs!! grr... but i didnt want to argue with the tech support about that, i can li've with that. maybe i can flash to an older bios if i find one somewhere. from what i read somewhere it is caused by the zen going from hibernate into "off power" mode and then it forgets a few things.
    and now i had the two issues described above and had to find a solution myself because the support pages dont help at all. sure you can say i should have thought of a heat problem but all important components are watercooled (even the north bridge) and i had some good airflow in general, but not around the sound card. and who knows that the audigy is that sensiti've to heat and that a sound card even gets hot at all. i've never heard of sound card cooling... i'm not that disappointed about the quality of the hardware because it is ok imo, but with the horrible lack of quality of the support and the buggy driver installation. hey, you get free advice by your customers, think about that. they tell you by themselves what the problem is and what they think may cause it. sure many posts are just flames but you should take ppl here more seriously. and if other manufacturers are to blame then put a list together like: msi k8n neo2 platinum - in this case upgrade to bios .2 or in that case install this or turn on/off that.
    alright, i hope anyone can use this information. sorry for the length but i wanted to describe things as precisely as necessary. cheers from austria.

But unfortunately, the other application from creative media source is not working. When I press EAX it says '[color="#000099">the application with the device not found'.     My Apple TV does not work and has never worked. I replaced it twice and replaced my router and DSL modem but no luck. I spent hours on tech support with both apple and my ISPs with no luck. Any ideas? Is the Apple TV a donation to apple? I have had the device for 8 months but it will not work for longer than 15 minutes before it drops with network errors. All of my other devices work perfectly on the network including 2 iPads, laptops and an old wii. I love apple products and this is the first real disappointment I have had. The Apple TV seems like a major dud of a product.

    Seems unlikely you have had two faulty replacements, and more likely that there may be some network compatibility issue or problem with reception in the location the AppleTV lies - anything close to it that might be interfering?
    I am assuming you are connected via wifi - if you can try an ethernet connection to rule wifi issues out.
    Could you try it at somone else's house maybe?  If it worked there it would point to something specific at your location.
    You could try replacing it again I guess or seeing if they can offer you credit or a refund.

  • Why am I being billed for equipment that never worked from the get go, and that your representatives admitted never connected to the computer on your end?

    In September my husband and I were planning a cross country move and we thought that having a Jet Pack to go on line with while we were traveling would be a good idea. When we ordered it we told the representative that we did not need it until the 1st of Oct. as that was when we would be leaving. It arrived on our door on Sept 9th with the instructions to be sure and activate it within 2 weeks or we would lose the line. On the 19th we called in the activation and everything appeared fine. We hit the road on the 1st and Nothing, Na-Da, Zip, Zilch .... The equipment never worked from the get go! We called Verizon from the road on the 4th of Oct. to find out what was going on and the representative told us that the problem was with the computer on Verizon's end. We shut the equipment off for the rest of our trip and called for a refund on the 13th of Oct. We spoke to a representative named Juan, who again confirmed that it was Verizon's computer that had been the problem,  and we were assured that all fee's associated with the Jet Pack would be waived as the equipment never worked in the 1st place. He told us all we needed to do was return the broken equipment and that he would send us a return label. We received the return label and sent the equipment back on the 22nd of Oct. On our next bill no credits of any kind had been applied? We promptly picked up the phone and called Verizon again, on Oct 31st,  to find out what was going on? This time we spoke to Lou Ann. After about an hour and a half she finally managed to remove the fee's, or so we thought, and we hung up satisfied. On 11/5 our Nov. bill arrived again with no credits of any kind. We thought maybe the billing cycle hadn't had time to catch up with our most recent conversation so we called just to verify. This time we spoke to Moncheria. She did not understand what had happened and had to reenter the same refund that Lou Ann had earlier. Again another hour and a half on the phone. Today,11/28, we received our most recent bill and again no credits of any kind??? We picked up the phone and called again. This time we explained to Christian, (the above story), and she put us on the phone with her supervisor Carson. Carson proceeded to tell us that ALL of the previous representatives we had spoken to were wrong and that since we had not returned the equipment within 14 days of receiving it that we were beyond the limits of the refund policy, (which means we would have had to return it before we left on our trip), and the best she could do was offer us coupons for the future to offset THEIR mistake! No thank you I will keep my cash in my pocket!
    1st of all we ordered it for the 1st of Oct. not for 9th of Sept.
    Secondly we were told to be sure and activate it within 14 days or we would lose the line, never any mention of a refund time limit. (Who buys stuff anticipating an immediate refund?)
    And 3d THE EQUIPMENT NEVER WORKED IN THE 1ST PLACE!!
    Now Verizon is asking for $343.34 in fee's for something that never worked in the 1st place!! This is ridiculous and those fee's are defiantly under dispute! The way I see it trying to hold me to a contract that Verizon breached by sending out faulty equipment is just wrong!

  • ITunes says it needs to upgrade but the download never works. What's wrong?

    One day I got on iTunes to put some music on my iPod Nano (one of the older versions), and always before when I plugged it in and came up and said it was plugged in, but then it didn't recognize it! This went on for several months, me never being able to put more music on my iPod.
    Finally I got the newest Nano for my birthday and I figured it'd work, but the same problem is going on! I've had the brand new iPod for 3 months and it doesn't have ANY music on it!
    It does come up and ask if I want to download a newer version of iTunes, that it needs that one to work right (version 8.2 something I think). I go to download it, it takes a while, and then comes up and says the download was unsuccessful, I've tried about 30 times, and it never works.
    What is going on?

    Instead of trying to update iTunes +from within iTunes+, go to Apple's page where you can download the iTunes 8.2.1 installation file -- save the file, don't run it direct from the download. Once downloaded to your computer, then run the installation file.
    If that does not fix the problem, then remove the following software from your computer (you won't lose your music): iTunes, Quicktime, and something called "Apple Mobile Device Services". Once you remove those programs, then run the iTunes installer file (from above) again. That will install all three of these programs and should fix your problem.

    This is not a feature of iPhone, iPad or iOS.
    Bluetooth is supported for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone
    devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the
    app store and internet tethering where provided by the carrier.
    Other than this it will not connect to a phone/computer/device.  (thanks to ckuan for the wording)

  • TS2634 I bought a ipad back in December and the ear buds never worked.  The sound doesnt come out of what you put in your ear but comes out of the little hole on the outside of the ear buds.  Is this supposed to be this way?

    The earbuds that came with my ipad have never worked.  They have sound that comes out of the outside hole of the earbuds.  When you put them in your ears no sound can be heard.  Has this been a problem or did mine just come broken?

    I have the same problem and it has just started in the last day or so...
    Got the phone late July and then in the last day, everytime I plug into PC or take a photo,  I get the same "Disk Error / Retry message"
    What is interesting is that I always had the Photo Storage location as the Memory Card (detachable).   Seems odd that sometime in the last month or so the phone decided to change my setting to the Mass Memory. Might have been an firmware update that I have done in the past but not sure.
    Changing the Photo Storage Location back to the Memory Card has stopped the error coming up everytime a Photo wastaken, but the message continues when I plug in the phone to the PC.
    Phone was just updated to latest firmware this morning and that has not helped, although during the back-up process I could not save some files from the Mass Memory.
    I wonder if Optus will shout a new phone because their technicians are useless with past experiences and to be honest the N97 really promises so much but offers very little compared to all of my last Nokia's.

  • Network Extender has never worked

    We received a network extender from Verizon due to the lack of coverage in the area we live - too far from a tower.
    I have tried every weekend to get this thing going and I always get a solid blue power light, solid blue wan light a SLOW BLINKING RED SYSTEM LIGHT and a solid magenta GPS light.
    I tried calling Verizon for support but the tech rep didn't know what to do and was trying to read through the manual, I think and the call dropped after about an hour (back to the lack of coverage issue).  I was so tired of not getting anywhere that I just let it go for the evening.
    Bottom line is - this thing has never worked.  All I can find is that a slow red blinking light is there is an abnormal condition. 
    Is there any further troubleshooting I can do or do I just need to see if Verizon can send me another one?

    Update  -  now I have a solid red GPS light & the slow blinking red SYS light.  Will let it sit for an hour (as the sticker on the side suggests) and see if there's any difference

    I would guess the fan is the cause of the noise. Suggest you take a look at it.

  • Apple tv 2 never works for me

    I spent hours on the phone to apple support when I bought the apple tv 6 months ago and it never worked unless plugged into my modem in the office directly. It seems to be something to do with the wireless network.... however, everything else on our 4 computers works well wirelessly. We never saw one film on this device and gave up. My laptop downloads films in itunes easily.... but not on the apple tv box. I should add it does play u-tube and previews..
    Is this something to do with being in Australia and having little support for our wireless protocols here ?
    Anyway...
    After 6 months still unused, I have just updated ( 2 updates since my last attempt to watch a film), and guess what... the apple TV does not work. I choose film and go through to the final stage where it says that it can not find my account / password ! It asks me to go to iforgot.apple etc... however, I have not forgotten my password... it just doesn't work.
    Extremely frustrating as we'd really like to watch a film tonight and again are left to watch rubbish tv...
    We expect something that is so simple ( just streams video) to work easily but it seems troubleshooting and alot of time investigating is required to get this little sucker to work. Have I got preferences set somewhere in Apple land that is stopping films to download?
    Not happy.

    I've had similar issues in the UK with my ATV. I am able to stream photos and music from any of the other devices around the house, via wi-fi to it, but movies have been hit and miss. We have had 3 that have stopped during playback, telling us it will be another 1 1/2 hrs before it has loaded. We have ended up trying the following:
    Resetting the ATV
    Restoring it to factory settings
    Trying different wi-fi channels
    Using Ethernet (it's about a foot away)
    Downloading movies way in advance of watching them
    Our wi-fi signal is full strength with an average rate of 9.8MB and I don't have issues with drop-outs or impaired performance on any other device as far as I know. I've had to resume movies by renting them again on our Virgin Media service and get refunds from the iTunes store...
    It's been really frustrating, but speaking to experts in my local Apple store and finally, Applecare, it appears that I may have a rogue unit. I'm sending it back for them to check as it is still under warranty.
    Maybe you have similar?

    If you mean AppleCare, then I would believe the answer will be yes.
    First make sure you have a full backup of everything on your Mac, then run, don't walk to your nearest Apple store.
    Note: Due to your Mac now being in computer years, somewhat elderly, Apple may not have the require parts in stock. This will either mean you might have to leave it with them for a number of days, or maybe they will offer you a new Mac mini. While a new Mac mini (if offered) might be a welcome possibility be aware that the new Mac mini no longer has a CD/DVD drive and it comes with Mac OS X Lion and as a result might not run some of your old software.

    DReamweaver and Phonegap no longer work for me either and I do have Phonegap 1.2.0

    I'm not able to 'Build and Emulate' or 'Build' in Dreamweaver CS5.5 either.  When I upgraded to ios5, it never worked again.  Phonegap and Adobe are all about the dreamweaver integration and it doesn't work!  Here is the Build Log Fail that I've been getting for 2 months:
