Firewire not recognised

Hi, Using FCP6 - HDV sequence - settings on easy set up to HDV1080 50i - camera(deck) recognised for log and capture but not when trying print to video..
any ideas??
thanks

Try the following steps: (I'm assuming you already have an edited, rendered/conformed HDV sequence on your FCP timeline.)
1. Shut the camera and the Mac down.
2. Disconnect the firewire cable from both devices.
3. Power up your camera, set to VCR mode, make sure it is set to receive HDV in, shut it off again.
4. Connect the firewire cable to both camera and mac.
5. Turn on the camera first, insert tape.
6. Now power up the mac, and launch FCP. Close any projects that open with it.
7. Go to Easy Setups, and choose the HDV108050i setup, if that's what matches your sequence settings. (Even though your project already uses an easy setup, do this anyway)
8. Now, open up your project, and activate the timeline window.
9. Important next step: In the view menu, set external video to OFF.
10. Go to Print to Video in the file menu, and make your slate, black, etc., settings.
11. Check the Start Recording Automatically box, and hit OK. (Try again with this unchecked if it doesn't work the first time)
12. Your camera should begin recording your sequence as it plays out.

  • All firewire devices not recognised after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.4

Hello, yesterday I finally got around to upgrading one of my home computers (old Emac G4 powerpc from 2005) to Leopard. I have been using Leopard on my work computer (G5 also from 2005) with no problems for a year now (this Leopard update was installed professionally when. I work with a lot of files on external hd's, mostly Lacies, one Maxtor and yesterday got new G-Drive 1TB. Since the upgrade the Emac will not recognise any of the external hds when connected by Firewire. It will recognise them if I use the USB. However I'm sending too much media traffic (film editing) to just use usb all the time. I need my firewire connections!
This is clearly a Leopard issue, there are no problems with the drives or the firewire connections or the cables, they all work fine on the work computer and my other home computer (powerbook laptop G4) and as I said the upgraded emac will recognise them from usb. And since it's three different kinds of drives that all work on other computers but all stopped working on the single Leopard upgrade it's not a Lacie, Maxtor or G-drive problem.
I've seen a lot of threads on this and other support forums about firewire problems but some are a slightly different problem and many are quite old so I wonder if anyone has any recent experience/advice for me?
Many threads complain that Apple was not recognising the problem, maybe there is also some progress there?
thanks in advance for any help!

It's still possible that there is now a hardware issue, and if so it might respond to resetting the FireWire bus. This can often be done by just unplugging the power cord for a few minutes.

    # Shut down the computer.

    # Disconnect the computer from the power outlet and wait for 3 to 5 minutes.
    # Plug the computer back in and turn it on.
    # Reconnect the device(s) (one at a time if there is more than one) and test. Test with each port if you have more than one.

  • Disk on firewire 800 not recognised until disk on firewire 400 powered up? Any solutions?

I have a Seagate Freeagent connected to firewire 800 and a Maxwell Onetouch connected to the firewire 400. The Seagate is not recognised until I power up the Maxwell but if I power up the Maxwell during before the power up of the seagate the Seagate again is not recognised. The Seagate is the designated Time Machine disk. Also when sleeping (but not always) the Seagate is dropped and I get a "dosk not demounted " message on waking. Any solutions known to these mounting problems with the firewire connections? Thank you.

I am answering my own problem. Install Lion! Problem has been solved. I always thought it was an OS problem. Good news.

  • IPod touch not recognised by itunes. have tried fix suggested in FAQs

    Hi Guys,
I have a 32gb iPod touch, which recently had been running a bit slowly. As a solution to this i updated with the newest sowftware, and cleared all my apps. Still slow, so i decided to do a system reset from the settings function. This was fine but since then my ipod has not switched on, it merely switches on to the apple logo, and goes back off again. When i hook it to a computer, itunes does not recognise that it is connected and i cant do a system restore. I have tried the 'hold home and connect to cable' trick but with no success. Is this a problem that you have heard of before?ie is there a quick solution, or will it need some parts/software updated by apple?

Help please, from iPod Touch experts?
(Sorry Darraghjoneill, not an answer but extra questions.)
I've an 8Gb iPod Touch which was working fine until around iTunes9. Now it is not recognised in iTunes. I've been through all of the support docs and suggestions covering deinstalling and reinstalling iTunes (including iTunes8), AMDS, USB Drivers, etc. I've an iPod Nano which works fine with the same USB cable in the same USB slot and a 10Gb Classic that works fine through Firewire.
When connecting the iPod Touch it shows the "Connect to iTunes" graphic and does manage to start iTunes but then I get the "iTunes could not ID this iPhone properly, disconnect and reconnect". I do that and then get the "Unknown Error 0xE8000065" problem with the added complication that, whenver this appears it messes up Firefox so no new pages can be loaded and the only fix is to Reboot my whole PC. I also get this Firefox problem when stopping/starting/restarting AMDS.
Stupidly, I thought resetting the iPod Touch to factory defaults might have helped but it didn't so now I have a very shiny brick.
    Any practical suggestions?

  • Ipod touch not recognised by win7

    Hi I have 2 ipod touch 2nd Gen 8gb.
1 works fine when I plug it into my laptop or any PC.
The other one won't get recognised by any computer I plug it into, I keep getting a USB not recognised error.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
I believe the Ipod was used with a mac rather than a PC before I bought it, not sure if that makes any difference

  • Ipod is not recognised by itunes or finder

I have a 5th Gen iPod and currently using itunes 7.1.1 with the latest ipod software. When i plug my ipod in to my mac it doesn't show up in itunes or in the finder so will not sync and I cannot restore it.
The ipod works fine to listen to music and I can charge it with firewire to ac adapter and through usb mac. Also It doesn't recognise in the System profiler under USB.
The only thing I can think that might of effected the ipod, is that I listened to music last week and entirely ran the battery down. When I plugged it in it to the usb it had the animated 'very low battery icon', so I charged via firewire ac adaptor and it recharged fine.
I've been using Apples support and discussions pages for about a week now trying to resolve this problem so I'll list what I've done that doesn't fix it.
Firstly I have done the 5R's with the exception of restore (because the ipod doesn't show in itunes)
I have forced disk usage (restart and hold centre down) but it will still not recognise, even restarted whilst plugged in.
I have ran a diagnostic on ipod.
I have checked all usb ports(all ok)
I have also tried on another mac and usb cable and it does the same thing.
The ipod connector is fine, no damage or obstruction.
Sorry this is long winded, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks in advance

    Hi Kylene,
Yes, unfortunately I have done everything.
The only thing I can't check is if 'Your iPod hard disk's format is damaged or was altered' beacause it doesn't show up in itunes so I cannot restore it. - Although it still plays ok.
I went back to the store just now and they plugged it in to their machines to no avail, they said I had to send it back to Apple, it's only 15 months old.
    Thanks,Ben

  • 6th generation Ipod nano not recognised in itunes

When I plug my ipod into my laptop, it is recognised in my computer but not in itunes or as a device when trying to safely remove it.
I tried plugging my 4th generation ipod nano into my laptop but again the same thing happens.
I tried plugging it into a different laptop and my 4th generation was recognised but my 6th wasn't. In another laptop, my 6th generation was recognised in itunes and worked fine.
I have tried resetting my ipod both ways, uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, using different USB ports and uninstalling everything apple related and reinstalling it but that hasn't solved the problem.
My laptop was sent away to have the hard drive replaced and this problem has happened since but that doesn't explain why it worked in another laptop but not in another one.
Can anyone suggest anything else I could do to try to make it work?
    My laptop runs windows 7.
    Thank you!

I've tried all of the USB 2.0 ports on my laptop and I have tried using a different cable.
I've tried resetting the ipod whilst connected to the laptop and still isn't recognised.
I am working through the iPod not recognised in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows:
    Step 1: didn't help
    Step 2: didn't help
    Step 3: didn't help
Step 4: Empty your Temp directory and restart - When I tried to delete the Temp folder, a message came up saying 'action can't be completed because the folder or file is open in another program' but I didn't have anything else open so I can't delete that folder.
Step 5: Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed - when I opened the Device Manager window, it was empty, there was nothing, so I couldn't continue with that step.
    Step 6: didn't help
Step 7: I've already tried to remove and reinstall iTunes and it hasn't helped
Step 8: Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items - I did this and restarted my laptop then tried opening iTunes but it said Bonjour had been disabled so I enabled it but setting it to Automatic and then opened iTunes but the iPod still wasn't recognised.
Step 9: I turned off security and tried but he iPod still wasn't recognised
Step 10: doesn't apply to me as I'm using Windows 7
I've tried the steps in iPod troubleshooting assistant and they haven't helped.
I've put it into disk mode and its still not recognised.
    My ipod isn't Macintosh-formatted.
My ipod doesn't sync via FireWire.
I have now worked through each and every single suggestion from Apple.
I have run a device connectivity test with the iPod attached and here are the results:

  • Pod not recognised but charges

    Hi
Odd one possibly. My Ipod is no longer recognised on my G4 in anyway, neither iTunes or on the desktop. I have tried plugging into both Firewire and USB but no joy.
However, it does charge. I don't think there is a problem with the ports since my girfriends pod is recognised on both USB and Firewire
I have tried re-booting the computer, reseting my pod, attached and not to the computer. Still not recognised by it does charge.
    Any ideas what next?
    Cheers

    Hi
Yes my pod has been recognized unfailingly for a year with Disk mode enabled I think, and has always been ilnked to this iTunes.
I haven't tried another computer and I think it's the do not disconnect display when connected.
I haven't tried connecting with iTunes closed, then opening once attached but I figured re-booting with attached might be similar.
    Cheers

  • External hard drive not recognised in start up options

Hi! I'm struggling to get to grips with creating a bootable external drive - any advice would be very welcome!
I've recently bought a LaCie Triple Interface 300GB external drive to use for backup storage and to use as a back up bootable drive should disaster strike. It's connected to my Mac via the FireWire 800 port.
I've backed up my documents and cloned system folders and apps using Intego Backup, but the drive is not recognised in the start up options of the system preferences, nor does it appear as a bootable drive when I option-restart.
Do I need to format and partition the drive before it will be recognised as a bootable drive? (I haven't done so) Or have I just cloned the wrong thing?! I'm not entirely sure what I need to clone to be able to boot and back up from it. Should I clone the entire HD?
Or does it sound like something else entirely?
    Can anyone help??
    1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 6.5MB RAM   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

I'm not familar with Intego Backup. Get Carbon Copy Cloner and use it to clone your entire drive, user files and all.Be sure to check the "make bootable" box before you start the process. Could be that Intego isn't capable of making a drive bootable.

  • 10.4  Update files not recognised

Using 10.4 on a second hand Powermac g4 from ebay, so no installation discs.
Successfully downloaded standalone updates 10.4.1....10.4.9 etc but first one (MacOSXUpdate10.4.1.dmg) not recognised so won't install. others recognised but won't work until first one installed.
Same with standalone combo update (MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10) it isn't recognised. Using AOL dial up so it's taken seven attempts (overnight) to get a continuous connection for the complete Combo download. (Same with Software Updates Combo from Apple menu on desktop)
How do I get the right file which will be recognised ? or should I buy a full retail version of Tiger from ebay ? I'm concerned about all the probs people are having with updates as I am miles away from Apple Store for repairs and am a newbie. Many thanks for any replies.

    Welcome To  Discussions frenchbingo!
Which version of OS X is currently installed on the Power Mac G4?
If it is not Tiger 10.4.x, then as sig posted, you will have to purchase a set of install discs.
Exactly which model PowerMac G4 is it?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
If it is this model Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics), it had OS 8.6 or OS 9.0 installed, when manufactured in 1999.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.10 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Leopard 10.5.x, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
    Leopard System Requirements
Jaguar 10.2.x, Panther 10.3.x, and Tiger 10.4.x, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Leopard 10.5.x, will be the most up to date OS.
But, if you know what to look for, Jaguar Full Retail CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

    Tiger On eBay
Before upgrading to any OS X version, check to see if your Mac needs a Firmware Update.
If one is required, you must start the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk, not from a CD, in order to install it.
This Power Mac G4 Firmware Update 4.2.8 appears to be the one you would need to install.
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 Combo Update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version of either OS.
If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, you could also consider installing that, and then use the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
    Jaguar System Requirements
-Power Mac G3 or G4, iMac, eMac, PowerBook G3 or G4, or iBook computer
    -128MB of physical RAM
-Supports all video cards shipped by Apple on Mac OS X-compatible systems. Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video cards: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti; Any AGP-based ATI RADEON card. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required.
-QuickTime Pro functionality requires a QuickTime 6 Pro key. The QuickTime 5 Pro key will not work after this software is installed.
-DVD Player requires a DVD-ROM equipped Macintosh with built-in FireWire.
Review these Apple documents for Panther System Requirements
    And Additional Panther System Requirements.
Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x ships on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

The Tiger Media Exchange Program, referred to in that article, is no longer available.

  • IPhone "Usb Not Recognised"

Hi, I know there have been loads of similar questions since the iOS 5 and Itunes 10.6 update. I recently got a new laptop and have tried to plug my iPhone in for the first time yet a "Usb Device is not Recognised" keeps showing up. My iPhone does not show up in iTunes or on My Computer. I have tried and followed almost every trouble shooter including:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 ( Please so not give me this link, I have tried every step on it about 500 times =.=)
    http://http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292
iTune's Diagnostics (which have lead me back to the links above)
Selective Startup only having iTunes start up.
    Restarting my laptop.
Making a new "Inbound Rule" through Windows Firewall for iTunes.
    Checked my USB cable etc.
    Getting recognised as a Camera
Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes + everything published by Apple Inc.
Deleted everything under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, restarted my laptop so that it reinstalled them then plugged in my iPhone.
I've stopped the Apple Mobile Device service, plugged my iPhone in, then restarted the service.  The same message pops up.
I'm pretty confident it is a problem to do with my iPhone 3G as I have tried it on multiple different computers with different Apple USB cords and it has always come up with the same message.

I have also found in my iTunes diagnostics log above ^^ it says that iTunes is not enabled by Windows Firewall, even though I have it enabled and followed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2553 to enable it and the iTunes box was already checked. However, I do have 3rd party Antivirus software running (Norton Internet Security) Could this be conflicting with windows firewall? If so, how do I turn off the firewall in the Norton program so that it stops conflicting with it.
And if this is relevant, I also found that
Connection attempt to firmware update server was unsuccessful.
    The network connection timed out.
    Is is this important?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Imac thunderbolt port not recognising hardware

I recently purchased a late 2012 27' imac 3.4GHz, i7.  The things works beautifully, however I'm having a particular issue with the thunderbolt ports.  It's not recognising hardware I plug in - to either port.  I've done a fair bit of research - done the whole restart thing, tried different combinations of connecting and booting up, uninstalling and re-installing the hardware drivers I'm trying to connect, used previous versions of the drivers, tested the hardware on my old macbook pro and it worked, but the new imac is just not recognising it through the thunderbolt ports.  Specifically, the hardware is a Mbox 3 Pro, with Firewire 800 to 400 to thunderbolt cable.  Long chain, but I do know it works.  Any help/ideas on getting the imac and hardware to communicate would be greatly appreciated

I assume you mean System Information?
    The Thunderbolt Bus information reads:
    Firmware Version: 23.4
    Port:
         Status: No device connected
         Link Status: 0x7
         Link Controller Firmware Version: 0.12.3
    Port:
         Status: No device connected
         Link Status: 0x7
         Link Controller Firmware Version: 0.12.3
Since the post, I went out and bought a new thunderbolt adapter, but still no go, it's weird because the Mbox pro is consistently working on my laptop but not on the Imac.

  • IPod 4G not recognised in Windows 8

My iPod 4G is not recognised in iTunes. I am running Windows 8 and I have tried ALL methods that's could find but it is still not working. My question to the community of Apple is to please help me connect my iPod to my iTunes. This problem also extends to my other devices which makes it a problem of my computer rather than my iDevice. I have also tried this on my friends laptop with successful results but would like to get it to work on my laptop.

Done EVERTHING mentioned above. Here is some results of diagnostics that I ran on iTunes.
