Firewire not recognized in mbp 1.83 15in

hi
i have a mbp 15 in, a mac mini intel, both with software up to dat. i usually dont use firewire, but when my old ibook g4 hdisk died, i needed a way to get my data. so i connected the ibook in target disk mode with my mbp but nothing happened. no disk mount, no connection recognized in apple profile. same thing with the mini.
then i tried to conect a lacie d2 dvd self powered usb/firewire. but nothig mounted in firewire, but in usb mode it did.
so im almost sure about a firewire problem, but i dont know where to start from. hardware test runs ok.
some kind of lost here. [please help!!!

install intel drivers, look them up on their site by
the chipset model. Maybe you had an old xp cd and
doing updates will give you drivers?
Wrong. The drivers are specific. Get the Simatel audio drivers.

  • WD MyBook Premium 320GB Firewire not recognized on my MBP?

    Hey guys,
First off, thank you for the help anyone is willing to offer.
Ok, so i have a MBP Intel Core Duo (1gb RAM) and use it to record music on. But basically, i have a WD MyBook Premium 320GB drive that works perfectly fine via USB. It powers up, mounts, and i can back anything i want on it. I formatted the drive to Mac Extended Journal format.
I would like to use the firewire port though, just to keep my USB ports open. When i plug it via Firewire i get nada. I plug it in and power up the MBP and the drive doesnt power up, so i turn it on and it doesnt mount. Now, THis is the second one i have, i had the same one a few weeks ago and returned it for this one thinking the drive was defective but its obviously not. is there anyway to "turn on" or Fix this issue with the firewire not recognizing the drive?
    thanks alot for the help
Macbook Pro 15" Intel Core Cuo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ace King, in case you're still dealing with this I figured it out:
I called tech support for an hour. First lady I talked to told me the firewire cable that was supplied with the drive is defective (she knew the problem right away). Tried my own cable but it still didn't work. She put me on to "Level 2"....ooooooh....now I'm getting somewhere? No, wait for 15 more minutes listening to terrible muzak...
Anyways while I was waiting I thought I'd try my good cable in the other port on the drive and oila! So when the dude gets on the phone I ask him what the deal is...get this:
"The faulty cable most likely fried the port." Wow...not only is the cable crap it actually destroys their product...someone must have lost their job for that one. Seems like sabotage almost...anyways, there you go. Return it and DO NOT use the cable supplied.
    Cheers!

  • USB hard drive is not recognized on MBP running Lion

    Hello,
    I have:
    - Freecom ToughDrive Pro USB hard drive
    - New MBP running Lion 10.7.3
When I plug the disk in an USB port in the MBP, the light that indicates operation starts blinking but very lighltly colored and the disk is not recognized by the computer. I have put data on it using iMac Snow Leopard. I have plugged the disk into a MBP running Snow Leopard and it works. I have also tried another Lion (older MBP) and it also works.
What is wrong? How come the disk is not mounted or shown in Disk Utility. Can it be a power issue? Any ideas?
I have noticed there a lot of similar posts in the forum and none has been satisfactorily solved. Is this a mayor Lion bug? If yes, how can I downgrade to Snow Leopard?

    Thanks for the reply.
However... how is it possible that with all other MBPs I have tried it works just fine? Has Apple lowered the power levels in recent models? The other MBP where I have tried the disk on are just over a year old, my current one is only a month old.
Are you saying that USB ports on different Apple computers are supplying different levels of power? That's psychotic! It should be a standard power level... or it should go up on newer models... not down!!!
I think I'm just gonna return this piece of scrape and get my old (one year old) MBP back... Snow Leopard was bliss compared to this... I rather go back than have to jump to a store to buy a cable to make something work that should work by default.
On the one Mac it does not work on that Mac does not put out enough power to fully power the drive. If it works on other Mac's we know that the drive works, so that question is answered. And it doesn't work on your newest Mac then there can only one answer, Not Enough Power is being put out by the USB port to fully power it.
Yes the one Mac that it is not working on has a lower USB power output. Why, I have no idea.
This is Very Common you can find posts about it on all notebook forums. Psychotic, No. Yes Mac is touted as "It Just Works" which is a flat out LIE.

  • External LG monitor not recognized by MBP

I've been using an LG Flatron L22WTG external monitor with my MBP (purchased 2011) running 10.7.2. The monitor worked fine until recently and now is not recognized by the MBP and goes into "power saving mode". There is no response when I press "recognize monitors". Tried the settings for power saving and monitors. This issue is recent, but I don't know if it occured with my recent installation of the last Lion patch.

Me too, but my LG monitor just stopped working after I installed the recent "Thunderbolt Firmware Update".
Literally the monitor was working yesterday. This morning I installed the update and now it's broken. Great update.
    Anyone have a fix?

  • Firewire not recognized

Hi, my MacBook Pro mid 2010 not recognized firewire port. No hardware found...

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • USB microphone not recognized by mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite.

I bought a Behringer Xenyx302 USB preamp to connect a microphone to my mbp.  The device is not recognized by MacOS.  Preferences / Sound / Input only lists the internal microphone.  Based on other posts and documentation, I should see and entry for "USB microphone" or something like that.
The preamp has a headset jack.  I can hear the microphone working through that, so I know the mic works.
Behringer doc says that no drivers or software are required for MacOS.  15" mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite
    Any suggestions?

Yes I have checked Parallels config along with Parallels support.  Also on the mac side it also does not see or recognize USB 2 devices
    any other thing to try?

  • Verbatim 3.0 USB not recognized bz MBP (mid June 2012)

Hi I am new to Apple and have just received my MBP 13' with SSD upgrade. I have also bought a brand new 64GB Verbatim 3.0USB stick.
This stick does not get recognized by the system and I can't seem to fix the problem. Other sticks work well.
There are a lot of common problems described on the internet, but they don't seem to help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lars

What are the system requirements for that model hard drive?  The few 1T's that I saw on Toshiba's website were only compatible with Windows.  None make no mention of Macs.

  • FireWire not recognizing device

I am running 10.5.8 on MacBook Pro. I was successfully using my camcorder and DV cable and everything worked fine. Suddenly my camcorder was no longer recognized (I am not sure if this correlated with a change in firmware or not.) When I go to "Network" the status shows the FireWire is not connected. The camcorder flashes DV-IN, so it seems like the problem is on the computer side. Please Help!!!! Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Do you have any other firewire devices that you can connect to your computer. Try connecting the device with the same cable and see if it is recognised in system profiler, if it does it is the fault is probably on the camera.
Also before you try that, connect your camera, switch it on in VCR mode and then launch i movie.
    Good Luck.

  • Fast backup on FireWire not recognized when network connected

I have a MacBook Pro that I've Time Machine backed up on a FireWire drive. I've now connected that FireWire drive to my Mac-Mini that I use as a home server so I can do network backups.
I've shared the drive on my home network, Time Machine on the MacBook Pro recognizes the drive but the backup I made when connected directly is no longer recognized.
How do I get TM to make use of the existing backup? The alternative will be delete everything and start a new TM backup over the network which could take days.

Neither one recognizes it....The playbook is the only thing that acknowledges that it is plugged in.  I have re-installed the blackberry software on the mac and still nothing!?  I thought it was weird that the iMac didn't even recognize it being plugged in.  I am going downlaod the DM for my mac laptop and see if I can get it to recognize it.

  • Firewire not recognized, the "cure" done at Apple Store, DISASTER, HELP!

Took my dual 2.5 to the Apple Store to "cure" the non-recognition of the firewire. They clear the Pram and other easy steps, restart the computer (I am packing my stuff as they seemed to think I was "cured") then, blinking displays and complete failure. They are doing an evaluation but they are saying things like: motherboard, power supply, etc., HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN! If they were doing this at the Store, was it their fault? I am waiting on the triage. Any one with such a situation which started as a firwire failure?

I had fans of a Powerbook G4 turn into a logicboard issue. The computer is a fairly tightly integrated unit. The firewire ports are saudered onto the logicboard. So it is entirely possible that in an effort to fix the firewire ports they noticed something wrong with the circuitry to the ports on the logicboard.
Power supply affects Firewire ports in that Firewire ports are able to supply power to Firewire devices that don't have their own power and understand signals for bus power. If the power manager is having issues, that could affect the ability of Firewire ports to supply power.
A flakey power supply may create such issues that seem intermittent and grow with frequency as problems.
So don't worry, so far nothing unexpected has happened at the store.
Some things to think about, if they do end up determining the power supply is the issue, check to make sure that you have a good surge protector, and are not defeating the purpose of the ground plug, and use steady power on the machine. If away from the machine for longer than a day, or you have thunderstorms in the forecast, I'd shut down and unplug the machine. A surge from a direct lightning strike can't be protected against by any surge protector, and can create power supply issues. Also ask an electrician to find out whether or not your power port that you are plugging the computer into is able to supply the power required of the machine.

  • Duet Firewire Not Recognized By Mac Mini 10.10.2. Yosemite

    Hi Everyone.
I'm attempting to put back together my home recording studio. I recently purchased a new Mac Mini 10.10.2. The mini just WILL NOT recognize my older, tried and true Duet Firewire interface. I'm using a Firewire to Thunderbolt adaptor, and nothing. I installed the proper Apogee Duet Firewire drivers. Maestro 2 shows up just fine but gives me, "No Apogee Systems Found". The Duet also does not show up anywhere else that it should either. The unit doesn't light up. Nothing. I found a thread that began with one other person complaining of the same problem while using the same OS and hardware but unfortunately their was no solution posted. Is ANYBODY familiar with this problem? More importantly, does anybody know of a solution? PLEASE?????!!!!!
I've darned near blown my wad financially, I'm frightened and I'm so frustrated. HELP!
Thanks a lot to anybody, everybody.

Have you went to Duet's support site?

  • Kernel task going wild an battery not recognized on MBP

My MacBook Pro is 8,2 and I'm running OS 10.8.2
A couple of days ago I first noticed an X that shows that there is no battery. Strangely enough, the problem disappears and then it comes back again.
I have tried the SMC reset with no luck.
In one of those opportunities that the battery was back on line, I was able to use Coconut to check it. It said that the battery was at 90% of its total capacity and charged at 100%.
I did noticed that when this happened, Kernel task would go crazy and start using CPU at 300%. Some people say these two problems could be related.http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259
Lat night I turned off the computer instead of putting it to sleep and this morning when I turned it on, the battery was working again. After a couple of hours of use without any problems, I put the computer to sleep. When I open it again a couple of hours later, I did notice that the computer was hot. The battery indicator was again with an X and the Kernel Task was going crazy at 300%.

I was just going through this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/19395293#19395293 and read that a user was having some Kernel problems while trying to connect to his wireless network.
I decided to shutdown the wireless and restart my computer and here is the result
No kernel going wild as it used to happen after every restart or shutdown.
After I cheked that the computer was running without a problem, I decided to reconnect the wifi and this is what it happened.
My Kernel Task started going crazy again.
I will repeat this condition several times just to chek if it was a one time thing or it repeats.

  • Firewire devices not being recognized by MBP

    Hello
I just purchased a MacBook Pro which I have a 20" cinema display connected to. I have an external Firewire drive and an iFire plugged into the Firewire ports on the back of Cinema Display but they are not being recognized by my MBP. If I plug the external drive directly into the Firewire port on the MBP it is recognized but is not when connected to the Cinema Display. Anyone have any ideas? I just migrated from a G5 and these same devices were connected to the Cinema Display then.
    Thanks

    Hey dmar713,
The iPod touch requires USB 2.0, check the speed of the USB port.

If the USB port is not causing the issue, it may be an application conflict.

  • External Firewire HD not recognized by MacPro

I have a Thunderbolt Display that works fine.  However - i just got a WD 2tb Firewire 800 external drive.  I plugged it into the Thunderbolt display and it is not recognized.  No matter what i do.  If i unplug it from back of display and plug directly into Laptop - it sees it fine.
Fairly new to Mac's so am i missing something?  A setting or something?? Thanks for any help.
FYI - laptop is MacBook Pro from 2011 running latest OS.

No, you're not missing anything... it should just work. I have four FW800 drives daisy-chained to my Thunderbolt Display - and they just work. I'm on a 15" late 2011 MBP running 10.8.2 as well.
Something's up - either with your Display, your TB connection or the drive. I suspect the Display or the drive. Is your Display still under warranty? Even if it's not, I would first try it out with a different FW drive (Western Digital is notorious for just not working with Macs) or, if that doesn't work, take the whole unit into your local Apple Store or AASP.
