Firewire out.....

I have just lost firewire on my FW800 G4 Dual 1.42Ghz (ultimate)
my firewire canon scanner isn't being seen, my ipod is charging by not mounting, in system profiler when i go to look at firewire it just comes up with firewire bus.
I have tried resetting pram (restart holding command-option P + R)
I have tried resetting nvram
i have even tried a CUDA reset
pram battery has charge!
any one got any ideas??

Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting any/all FW devices, shutting down, and unplugging the Mac for 30 minutes or so. Then plug in the power cord, boot up and attach the FW devices one at a time.

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..

  • Apple Video Adapter / Firewire Out Thru Camera

    Hello,
Could someone explain in somewhat technical detail the difference between playing your timeline out to a TV, through the Video Adapter as compared to Firewire out thru a camera.
I didn't own a TV - I only watch films on my wall with a projector - but I got a basic TV the other day (I have zero budget) to help with finishing off my film projects.
It will help to see the DVDs I burn on a TV, as I couldn't do that before (without going to a friends house), but I'm forced to use the Video Adapter and I've read that it's of no use; that you need to go firewire out thru a camera.
I don't have an firewire in facility on my camera.
I basically wanted to hear more than what I've read so far. Specifically, what is the difference in technical terms?
Thru the adapter: is it interlaced on the TV, are the colors different, is it a pixel issue; what's the difference?
I edit on my iBook with Final Cut Pro, I've got a 19" Diamond Pro 930SB monitor also, and now this basic little TV. They all look different and I'm going crazy trying to figure out which to finish to.
Buying more kit, or adding something I don't have is not an option; only how to make the best use of what I've got.
Thanks for any answers or guidance.

Second what David said about using the output on the computer - it has little real-world use.
Matt, from looking at your impressive website I'm surprised you aren't more familiar with video technology, or at least have people around you who do. That's actually a complimant.
There are two essential things using a properly converted CRT will give you.
The first - coupled with a decent and calibrated video monitor (rather than a TV) - is a consistent standard by which you can judge your work, especially in comlor correction. FOr anything you consider critical work you should also be using scopes.
The second, assuming you are working in any interlaced format such as PAL or NTSC, is to give you the full temporal and spatial resolution of an interlaced signal. At the least it will allow you to see and correct interlace-related problems which are posted here so often. Your "basic tv" will at least help with this part.
The FCP manual explains both of these fairly well in more detail.
I reiterate that the Mac's video output has no relevance to either of these, no matter what the settings.
If you have shot your own material and brought it into the Mac, didn't you use a camera, a deck, or an analog converter to do that"? If so, you have your converter already.

  • Enabling firewire out from Color?

Has anyone attempted to edit the file in color where it says video output disabled?
I truly believe that Silicon Color the originator of Color intended for firewire out to be enabled, is it possible the apple made a deal with the AJA Kona and the Black Magic design that make the cards for video output to boost their sales?
If you are just working with standard DV, firewire out should be available don't you agree?
in one of the forums a user asked this question and several responded, if you want to play colorist, you must pay the big bucks, but why? if there is a way around.
I look forward to some feedback
    Thanks
    Sigi

Maybe Sigi lives closer to the source, and knows something the rest of us don't (and obviously there is much that is unknown), but...
if you're strictly going on "faith", my perception is that Final Touch was NEVER intended to work over FireWire; the original team considered anything less than a 3-monitor Kona/Blackmagic configuration to be at best a joke, and at worst an insult. Maybe both. But that was a long time ago in computing terms.
But here's some financial and historical background that might be instructive, and may help to shed some light on the path this app has been following.
FT was originally envisioned to be a dpx DI solution, but for business case considerations was diverted into a Quicktime corrector, and further perverted to work with Long-GOP formats, and then purchased (rescued?) and scabbed onto FCS2. COLOR 1.0, as most FCP users came to know it, was really FT version 2.7+? or maybe 8-something. We all got the rug pulled out from under us virtually within days of 2.7 Release Candidate 2 being posted on the old Silicon Color website. The whole thing went dark from October 2006 until April 2007. Six months, no support, no news, no fixes, no updates, no contact, nothing. Some of us had spent anywhere between $5K and $32K depending on whether one opted for the HD or 2K versions. Apple's compensation for the lost investment was a "free" upgrade to FCS2.... if you still had a valid Support contract. Now, interestingly enough, sales were suspended as of October 2006. FTHD service contracts were only valid for a couple of months, while 2K licenses came with a year of support. So effectively all of the HD licensees' contracts expired in that period. As compensation, Apple offered them an "upgrade" to FCS2, including COLOR, for $US499. The 2K licensees whose contracts still hadn't expired effectively wound up with a $30,000 version of Final Cut that came with a slightly better integrated Final Touch. (If they argued in order to receive it.)
Just like Warren Buffett said.... "There were mistakes made". I don't know if its a widespread attitude, but COLOR, née Final Touch, as it exists now, still has the feel of an "awkward child". You could say "special needs" if you follow my meaning. It has lost all of the cachet that it might have had as a serious grading tool. Speedgrade is pretty much the indie choice of the moment if you can't afford a Lustre, Baselight, Scratch, or whatever, etc. (At least my Tangent panels would work with the new system.) Apple's non-presence at NAB2008 pretty much suggested "withdrawal" in the eyes of broadcast professionals. The rampant secrecy that the company operates under is poison if there are large budgets involved -- consumers might find the whole thing delightful because they like to be surprised. You'd be amazed at how dim the view is from completion bonding companies when certain technical solutions are suggested as part of a project's workflow.
    Showstopper is the word.
So, now you want FireWire for your SD projects. It seems like a trivial thing, doesn't it? But how would you assess the odds of that happening?
Given the history of decline, maybe you will get your wish. And then the app will be remaindered like LiveType and Shake. Because there will be no business case to put further R&D into it. I know, Apple sells hardware and the software is the frosting on the cake. I understand that. But the math of the bottom line will also start speaking louder than anything else. Under present economic circumstances maybe sooner than later.
Anything in this that is not true? Let me know.

  • So there is Firewire out

so in the last update for Color i was playing around and click on the Video output and it says disabled, but if you click on it you get a grayed out drop down menu with FireWire out options, anyone else seen this?

    Matt, get over it already.
There is no firewire external monitoring in Color beyond the Aja IO/HD. If you want to play in the land of accurate video, you'll need to pony up the bucks to at least an Intensity Pro in a Mac Pro but quite honestly, I wouldn't trust the accuracy of that device. Aja Kona LHe. This is one area you'll need to pay if you want to play, sorry, but that's the truth.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 firewire out

Just downloaded the trial and noticed that the firewire out is still not working alongside with the program monitor. I couldn't even half the time get the video to preview via firewire. It's like the signal kept going in and out. Now I brought an AVCHD clip in and can tell it scrubs much better. However  I'm dissapointed that someone can't watch their timeline in the program monitor and firewire out at the sam time like it has been for years.  Anyone else experiencing this too?

Not to swing this completely off topic...but am I the only person who uses DVI out to preview on a separate monitor? As of CS4 it's available and works without error, so far as my personal usage indicates.
I know some folks want to use IEEE 1394 out, but with the delay issues and seemingly constant headaches with Adobe support/non-support of this workflow, why not just use an available DVI port (if you have one) and run to a DVI or VGA capable monitor (or run DVI > HDMI, just as well)....?
I ditched my IEEE 1394 preview method as of CS4 because there are less parts involved and the preview is perfectly good for my non-major-motion picture work. I don't need the audio signal out to the same device (I have a somewhat more refined audio monitoring solution) so the DVI/VGA/HDMI solution works fine for me.
    Just asking....anyone else?

  • Firewire out to NTSC monitor.....no luck

I've tried the things suggested on this board and I have no luck getting video out to my NTSC monitor. When I go to View -> Video playback, I only get two choices, "none" or "digital cinema desktop preview - main". When I selectr "external video -> All Frames, the setting doesnt stick.
I have my MacPro's Firewire going to the DV input of my DVD recorder and the analog outputs to the monitor. Could it be that FCP simply doesn't recoginze my DVD recorder as a device? Hopefully I'm just missing something here.

Chris, I've tried to do what I think you're doing now, with a different objective - getting my FCP sequence to record directly via FireWire to my Samsung DVD recorder. And that didn't work either. I think the reason is for External Video to see a DV signal, it has to be both DV in and out. Since the DV FireWire cable you're hooking up to your DVD Recorder does not allow FCP to receive a DV signal, FCP is not recognizing the Recorder as a DV source. Does that make sense? I think you need to do as Jerry suggessts and get a DV deck or camera - I've seen JVCs selling for under $200!

  • FireWire out to HD

I'm editing on my PowerBook (soon on my MacBook Pro) and I will be needing a way to monitor out to HD. In SD, I just use a cheap little camera to act as a pass-thru to my Broadcast monitor. Now that I have the HVX200, it doesn't allow FireWire pass through to HD. Hum, what to do?
I've seen many items for Mac towers, but what are you guys/gals using to monitor from PowerBooks?
Also, please enlighten my small brain on this one: why SDI over Component? My HD field monitor has component, so that would be desirable (FW to Component). Is SDI so much better? Why?

#1. The only way you are going to be able to view DVCPRO HD via firewire are a) thru a DVCPRO HD deck, the AJ-HD1200 or b) DVI out of the Macbook, thru a DVI>component/SDI converter box (AJA HDP or Decklink HD Link) to an HD monitor. But not sure about that second one. That is just off the top of my head. The DVI out will allow you to span your desktop, then you can use Digital Cinema Preview to full screen to the DVI out...but DCP doesn't give you full quality, so....hmmm...close but not it.
Laptops are good for offlining HD, but not for finishing. For that you need an HD capture card, HD monitor and access to high speed drives...at lease FW800. The MacBook doesn't have FW800 connections, nor is there a card for them yet. Plus it can't access a SATA Raid. And now it cannot output a true HD signal to color correct. So I don't think a MacBook Pro is a viable option for cutting HD from start to finish. I don't think any laptop is up to the task really. HD is FAR more intensive than DV.

  • MacBook 10.4.11 - Firewire out to TV display?

MacBook 10.4.11 out via firewire to:
Canopus ADVC-110 media converter out via RCA to:
Standard TV with RCA input (just yellow and white, not red)
Goal: I would like to display the Mac OS and any window that appears on it (including QT movies) on the TV in realtime. (I need to compare two different color corrected versions of the same QT movie, and I'd prefer to do it without burning two DVDs.)
Through FCP, I've already established that this setup works; I can see the Canvas/Timeline displayed on the TV. My only question is about the Mac OS.
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I downloaded Pacifist and the 10.4.11 Combo Update. Pacifist verified the AppleAirPort and AppleAirPort2 .kexts on my drive as matching the ones in the package, but I forcibly reinstalled them anyway and rebooted. Still no luck -- now the network is back to the four-bars-no-bars death loop without even popping up the error dialog.
Luckily however Pacifist turned out to be the solution to the problem. A Google search on "Apple broke Airport" eventually led me to this thread with detailed instructions on rolling back to the previous version of the Airport driver, before the 2008-01 update: http://www.tuaw.com/2008/03/28/airport-extreme-update-2008-001-for-tiger/#c11509 504
I'll paraphrase it here for anyone else who has this problem:
Download the Airport Extreme client software version 2007-004
    from http://tinyurl.com/yw3dnu.
Download and install Pacifist from www.charlessoft.com.
    Delete /system/library/extensions/io80211family.kext
    In Pacifist, open AirportExtremeUpdate2007004.dmg
and expand the sub folders until you can see the io80211family.kext
extract and direct it to extract the file to the
    /system/library/extensions/ folder
    restart
So now my Airport works again, though without whatever security they put in with 2008-01, I guess.
I suppose I'll have to embargo future OS updates until this gets straightened out, or else re-rollback the io80211family.kext after each one. I sure would like to talk to whoever wrote this update at Apple!
    Thanks for your time, BD.

  • Firewire out to PC

    Hi all...
I've used FCP since version 1.2 and I like it. When I had version 3, I was able to ouput my FCP project via Firewire right to my PC, and my PC video software would recognize it. (I have a frequent need to do some cross platform work.) However, ever since FCP version 4.5, I've been unable to do this. (Nothing in the PC has changed) Both computers are networked for file transfer over a Cat 5 cable, but I can't play my FCP project out to my PC over Firewire anymore. I have to output to a camera via Firewire, then play the camera into my PC via Firewire. Obviously this takes twice as long. Is anyone aware of a setting in FCP to make this work again?
    Thanks
    Kevin

I think FCP needs to see a valid DV device before it will stream the output over firewire ... I guess your PC isn't recognised as such a beast
You might try tricking it. Connect up the camera and set everything up for playing out over firewire ... then switch the cable over to the PC but don't refresh A/V devices. might work.
alternatively, can't you just export a Quicktime Movie and copy it over the network?

  • Can we let Macpro Firewire out the 3rd display?

My mac pro has only 1 graphcis card and its connected to 2 display monitor. I also have a firewire video output that I can choose output the video via firewire in Logic Pro. I don't know if we can just let mac pro output the video via firewire in all time , not in a specific software.

FireWire video requires special software. It cannot be used as a normal display for OSX windows.

  • No audio out to firewire

I have a 1.5 hour time line of a dance recital. In one dance there is a 2 second part where I get no sound out to my firewire deck.
The FCP VU meter shows activity between -12 and -6 db during the silence.
There is nothing funny in the waveform
If I use "built in audio" (though imac sound), I get sound.
If I put the audio into the viewer and view / play the audio with no video playing, I get sound from firewire out.
I installed all of the latest updates.
    Any ideas anyone???
    Thanks

    Hi -
Go to where the missing two seconds are and back up two seconds. Place an in point there (two seconds before the strange audio disappearance). Now go two seconds past where the audio drops out, and place an out point.
Go to the menu File>Export>Quicktime Movie.
In the widow that opens give the clip a name like Audio Repair.
    For the Setting: Current Setting
    For Include: Audio Only
    For Markers: None
and check the box Make Movie Self Contained.
Save that file to your desktop.
Once the file is saved, go to your desktop and open the file with Quicktime Player. Can you hear the entire audio track, including the "missing:" two seconds?
If you can, then import that file you created into your project, and edit it where you have your in and out marks placed.
Now try and see if this section will play out the firewire correctly.
    Hope this helps.

  • FCP video out from mini-dvi to video adapter

Is it possible to get the output of viewer / canvas from mini-dvi to video adapter for the external tv out.
    My configurations,
    Final Cut Pro 5.0
    MacBook
    Mac OS X 10.4.8
Mini-dvi to video adapter for external output of video
    Need to find the solution.
Please suggest your ideas to get things work.
    Expecting reply soon.

If you use the Matrix MXO, yes. You can use the DVI out to feed a NTSC/PAL monitor. This is one of the only ways to monitor HDV.
If you want to monitor DV (either PAL or NTSC), use firewire out to a DV/Analog converter and feed the Monitor from the converter.

  • Unable to Capture HDTV with Firewire

I would like to use the Firewire out capability of my LG HDTV and record video into the computer.
I've connected the G5 and tried using iRecord 0.4 and VirtualDVHS. The TV recognizes the 1394 connection and will often tell me it is transfering data, but no application has received any video. The time counter will increment, but the destination file stays at zero size.
I've downloaded FireWireSDK21 and looked over the applications and some of the source code. Wow, there is a lot to learn to figure out what is going on here.
I've wondered if buying QuickTime Pro will help, I only hesitate to do this because in the past, as soon as I buy Pro, a new QuickTime comes out and I have to do it agian. I'll buy it if it will help. So, Will it help to have QuickTime Pro?
I am also looking at some of AVCVideo applications in the SDK and wonder of these might be closer to what I want to work with. So, With Firewire, how specific are devices, i.e. do I want the G5 to look like a DVR or something else?
Finally, iMovie seems to expect to see a camera and the video from the TV does not seem to look like a camera (iMovie tells me no camera is connected). Is there a plug in or tool to trick iMovie or add capability to it to act as a DVR? I've downloaded FireWireSDK21 and looked over the applications and some of the source code. Wow, there is a lot to learn to figure out what is going on here.
Thanks! This was posted in another forum for a few weeks with no repsonses, this is the last chance.

    Vidi didn't work.
The TV Firewire and Vidi had no compatible modes.
I suspect that iRecord and VirtualDVHS offer the same capability. There is some setting on the Firewire stream that is compatible with none of these programs. Still looking for a solution.
    Thanks.
