  • Firewire problem since upgraded to 10.4.3

    Hi there,
since I have upgraded my iMac G5 to 10.4.3, it is no longer recognising my external Lacie firewire drives. These work fine as I have tried them on a machine running 10.4.1, and they worked fine on the iMac G5 before I upgraded to 10.4.3
The iMac powers the devices but they do not mount or show up in disk utility or apple system profiler...
    any ideas?

    Robert,
Take a look at this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=260074
Also, which update method did you use when you went to 10.4.3? Did you use Software Update or did you download the update from Apple's website? Some users have reported a resolution of Firewire problems by downloading and installing the 10.4.3 Combo Updater from Apple. You can do this even thought you are already at 10.4.3.
    Regards,
    Steve M.

  • .mac problems since 10.4.8 upgrade?

Ever since upgrading to 10.4.8, I have to constantly reenter my .mac password to receive mail. I'll notice my mail icon bouncing, and when I check it, I get the message that I my password for .mac mail has been rejected and I must reenter it. I do so, add it to my keychain, and it works for awhile. Then for unknown reasons, same message, etc. It's getting really old. I'm curious how many others are having this same experience. I'm about ready to do a warranty "chat" with Apple and officially report the problem, since they don't seem to be doing anything about it.

    Hi, John.
    1. You wrote: "They don't mention it as related to the 10.4.8 upgrade, but I did not have the problem before that."True. It could be a bug in the Update, it could be a bug in .Mac mail at Apple's end (mail server or other network issues), it could be both. If I were a betting man, I'd probably put a couple of bucks on the latter.
The 10.4.8 Update has been available since 26 September 2006. Their workaround document is dated 6 October 2006, which probably means they were aware of the problem at least on 6 October, but it could also have been a tad earlier and, after trying some fixes, they decided to publish the workaround document while they continue to troubleshoot the issue.
When did you install the 10.4.8 Update?
    2. You could check the .Mac Discussion to see if there were a raft of posts about the problem within the days immediately following 26 September that also note the problem not occurring before installing 10.4.8.
    3. If it's a major problem — e.g. it's costing you a couple of hours of productivity — you could try a downgrade install to 10.4.7, which would also take a couple of hours. Frankly, I'd say a downgrade would be overkill at the moment, given that Apple's .Mac folks appear to be on the case, but it is an option.
Downgrade installs can be very dodgy. Apple does not recommend them, as they note in the "About 'Downgrade' installations" section at the end of "Mac OS X: Troubleshooting installation and software updates." Additional information about why downgrade installs are problematic can be found in "Applications don't work after reinstalling Mac OS X."
If you want to try a downgrade install to 10.4.7 from 10.4.8, you can see my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ. In step (4b), install the Mac OS X 10.4.7 Combo Update, then follow the rest of the steps. Note that:• Downgrade installs are performed at your own risk. While the downgrade method outlined above has worked for many, Apple does not recommend downgrade installations and one cannot account for how variances between individual users' systems may affect the outcome. Again, use at your own risk: you break it, you fix it.
    • I would only test third-party applications in Step 5 as Apple apps are likely to run into the issues with the Previous Systems folder noted in "Applications don't work after reinstalling Mac OS X."
    • Apple apps should be safe to test after Step 6, but you may still run into problems due to 10.4.8-related changes in preferences files in your Home > Library > Preferences folder. Discarding the preferences files for Apple applications that are problematic after a downgrade install may solve the problem with those applications. Finally, before installing future software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.
    Good luck!

  • Problems since phone restore and upgrade to 3.1.2

On Thursday I restored my phone to factory settings due to calendar problems when syncing with MobileMe. I set the phone up as a new phone after installing 3.1.2 and the calendar issue resolved. But, since then, I can't get mail from my Exchange server at work and my other e-mail accounts, with the exception of MobileMe, work intermittently and pretty much only if I'm connected to WiFi. The phone doesn't recognize my home WiFi network anymore and I have to enter the password several times in order to connect -- it finally connects after that. Everything else is connecting to my WiFi just fine. Most annoying, however, is that the battery is draining like crazy. I haven't increased or changed the way I use my phone in the last two days -- in fact, I've only made one call and received two others. I've sent a few texts, but no more than usual, and have tried to check e-mail with no to poor results, as I've said. I'm needing to recharge twice daily with little to no use of the phone. The phone is approaching 2 years old -- is the battery simply dying and this exacerbated the problem?? I treat the phone well -- no drops or accidents with it and no such problems until I did the restore. It seems like others have had some problems since 3.1.2, so is that the problem??

I went to the Apple store today and worked with a Genius on these problems. We're still in a diagnostic mode -- they were able to detect that the battery was going down more quickly but no clue as to why. They suggested restoring the phone one more time and then adding in one app at a time to see if an app is causing the problem, but they don't believe it's related to 3.1.2. Right now, my phone has nothing on it except for MobileMe and it seems to be holding a charge. It's still draining a bit more quickly than it did before 3.1.2 but as I add in more apps, I'll be able to determine what's causing the issues. Frustrating!

  • Sound output device problem since 10.6.2 upgrade...

wHey, I've had a look through some other forums and have found solutions and so on to this problem, which is basically this:
Since the 10.6.2 Upgrade my sound output device changed from 'Headphones' to 'Soundflower (2ch)'...The three options are as follows on Sound preferences through System Prefs...
    Headphones
    Sondflower (2ch)
    Soundflower (16ch)
I use external speakers, so headphones is important to me, but everytime I change it back to headphones, the next time I restart the computer it switches back to Soundflower (2ch) ... It's only on my user account as all other accounts are fine, I've reinstalled OS X already, and have even since this problem started, bought a new iMac (no, not just cause of the problem lol)... Done a timemachine restore, yet the same is happening on the new iMac, and it's driving me nuts... I've called Apple Support they suggested reinstalling OS X, I've done just that, but it's still doing it... There must be something I have installed...Any help?
I'm hoping someone has some sort of Terminal code to switch it to set to 'Headphones' as DEFAULT Output, as there is no such way to do it on Sound preferences.
    Any help greatly appreciated, thanks

Refer to Apple - Support - Discussions - System does not store my sound preferences or Apple - Support - Discussions - Sound preferences sometimes messed up after boot for removing Soundflower from your Mac.
However, AFAIK, there is no way to make 'Headphones' the default sound output device, since the switch among built-in audio, headphones, (& optical output on Macs with a dual purpose optical/analog output jack) is controlled by what you do or don't insert into that jack.

  • Modem problem since 10.4.9 upgrade

Profound apologies if this matter has come up here before, but has anyone found any glitches with getting online after upgrading to OSX 10.4.9?
I'm using a Speedtouch 330 modem to connect to my Demon broadband account (I'm in the UK) and find that since upgrading the other week my Mac will occasionally freeze on start-up.
I've tried repairing the disk permissions, but this doesn't seem to help.
    Ideas, anyone?
    Thanks
    David

Yes it is a USB modem and so you're probably right... When I upgraded to 10.4 in the first place the modem went haywire until Speedtouch produced a driver that was appropriate. I just didn't think it would make too much difference going from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9, but I guess you can never tell.
As far as I knew there was no way of checking and other upgrades within 10.4 haven't made any difference.
    Thanks for the help...

  • Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.

Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.
Is there any way to use a 10.5.7 wireless .kext files on Snow Leopard? And where can I find the files?

Ok, I have the fix!! After several frustrating days it finally just works.
    The process:
Upgrade your Macs to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Powercycle your modem AND time capsule / airport TWICE
Reset your time capsule with a pin or paperclip on the back
Follow the prompts to setup your time capsule / airport access
    -- On your Macs
    Go to System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced > TCP/IP
Click "Renew DHCP Lease" then click "Ok"
    Click Apply
    Turn off Airport
    Turn Airport on
    IT WORKS!!!
One of the magical people at tech support walked me through it earlier today. The whole process took about 1.5 hrs because Show Leopard takes about an hour to install on one machine.
    Hope this helps-
    Joshua

It will input your Quicken PPC data file directly if it was Quicken 2005 through 2007.  If older you need Quicken 2006 or 2007 PPC first to convert your data file; and this update must be done BEFORE you upgrade to Mavericks:

  • Ipad3 problems since upgrading to ios8n

Is anyone else experiencing these problems since upgrading to iOS 8?
    - Need to touch screen several times for a nornal one touch action (note: Screen size/position changes a bit after each successive try.)
    - keyboard response slow at times and at times freezes
    - screen content/image has expanded slightly but enought to put some perimeter icons and controls outside/off the screen.
    Are there fixes?
ios7 worked beautifully!!! Why won't Apple allow their currently loyal ( but frustrated)  clients to revert back to ios7?

Hi Go to settings Restore  back, to Factory, settings After Restore use same Apple ID & password, then you will get all your apps & data, back. This will get rid of any bugs. I do this every 2 months, or so on iPhone & iPad. Cheers Brian

  • Any Bluetooth audio problems since upgrading to ICS?

    Hi.
Was wondering if anyone has had any Bluetooth audio problems since upgrading to ICS?  In particular, have you had any stuttering and/or pauses in streaming since the upgrade?
I use a MW600 with my phone and I get stuttering and pauses every few minutes between the phone and the MW600 which is very annoying - to the point where I can't reliably use the phone for audio any more.
    Thanks
    Savcom

Sorry but it seems to be a problem some users are experiencing. It's already been reported so hopefully there will be a fix for this soon.

  • Problems since upgrading to Mavericks

I am experiencing problems with CC applications since upgrading to Mavericks. Mostly Screen and display issues.
In Photoshop, the top menu bar where the red, yellow , green window buttons normally sit has disappeared and it seems I cannot drag the window down to reveal (if that is the problem)
In Indesign, The program opens but I cannot see any workspace at all, even when I open an existing ID file.
Premiere Pro, Bridge,  appear to work OK
After effects and Muse indicated both required upgrades, yet the CC application Manager does not indicate any upgrades required or available.
I have not tried other apps.
Is anyone else experiencing problems since upgrading to Mavericks and if so, does anyone know if Adobe are working on fixes?

I upgraded to Mavericks on two computers and have display problems too! I have CC on one Macbook Pro (2011) and CS6 on another (2012) and I'm now almost positive my display problems are triggered by InDesign. I don't have to be doing anything special, and I don't have to be working in InDesign at the time, but InDesign has to be open and I get things like this:
Once it turns magenta or green, that's when I have to boot the system. I can still work with the glitchy display before it turns colors and if I'm still able to quit InDesign while it's glitching, the display goes back to normal. Same on both computers and the 2011 one has a new logic board in it.
At first I thought it had something to do with connecting my hard drive or my external display, but the display issues happened with both computers with nothing hooked up. Those are ruled out now. I took my 2012 computer to Apple and they told me it was a software issue and all my hardware is ok. Obviously they didn't fix the software issue because it's still happening.
This is not normal and needs to be fixed soon!

anyone else having problems with popups since the new security upgrade? can't get rid of them

You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it. It ought not to be related to any Apple security update.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

Wow, just posting and it seems that there is a solution that is working for me...
What I've did is I turned off iTunes Match on my iPhone, then turned in on again. Now in my iTunes library on my mac I can get the duplicates to be matched or uploaded to iCloud with a right-click, add to iCloud. iTunes Match starts to check the songs and everything is done correctly. Pretty nice!

  • Problems since upgrading to v9.10

Has anyone else encountered problems since upgrading to v9.10?
Firstly there appears to be an issue with OLT no longer working in Firefox (3.6) as the "Build Scenarios" lists (select scripts) don't populate. Fortunately it still works in IE7, so I can at least revert to that.
Apart from that, what's more of a problem is that I've found some previously working scripts are no longer working in OLT (but I haven't yet found a pattern).
e.g. 1) One webservices script for product 'A' works, yet another for the same product comes back with "Orphaned agent" and "Failed to load script class for script X".
e.g. 2) A similar set of scripts for a different webservice 'B' also has one working and the other with the same errors generated.
e.g. 3) I have some web scripts that work, but others come back with the errors shown.
I have also noticed that if I attempt to run multiple scripts e.g. load a previously working scenario containing 12 scripts, none of the scripts runs (as the agent has failed to start because of at least one of the scripts). The same is true if I try and run a single working script with a single non-working script; both fail with the message from the non-working script (both would be using the same agent).
So far I have only tried converting a (new copy of a) single script to the v9.10 format but that didn't seem to make a difference. Pre-v9.10 scripts should still work in OLTv9.10 though; the conversion shouldn't be necessary.
I have tried the usual things (re-starting the services and even the OracleXE database). Any suggestions?

I too have FF3.6.3 but after signing in, I get the Build Scenarios page displayed but the "Select scripts & user-defined profiles" box with "Path: Scripts Only" list has nothing in it. Changing to "Scripts and Directories" makes no difference, still nothing is shown in the list. The repository should have multiple directories with multiple scripts (as shown when I try the same thing in IE7).
I now suspect this too may be down to some problem during the upgrade of the DB from v9.01.1 to v9.10 the odd thing with the script failures is the error doesn't seem to indicate anything wrong with the script itself; just that the agent failed to load the script. You get OLT Server Warnings that say "Stopped Autopilot because of error on agent "[name]" and the VU Grid shows my (single) VU with error "Failed to load script class for script [name]".
One particularly odd thing is that if I try adding 2 scripts in the same batch (a working and non-working one) with a delay between them the following happens:
    1) VU1 with working script starts and completes OK (total time around 48s)
    2) VU2 starts after delay (120s) but immediately comes back with the OLT Server Warning.
    3) *BOTH* VUs on the VU Grid now show the same error about the agent (despite the 1st VU having completed sucessfully).
The agent seems to run happily with a working script until it is asked to load another (non-working) script which then kills the agent?
Here's the relevant section from the databaseConfig.log from when the upgrade was installed, as I suspect this is where the problem started:
