FireWire suddenly not recognising device?

I have searched high and low for an answer to this and now I'm just plain tired, so I hope someone here can help me in a hurry.
I have a Sony DCR-HC15E Camcorder which used to transfer fine in iDVD and burn DVDs for me with no problem at all. Suddenly it no longer does it. I am at a loss as to what to do to fix this problem.
I am connecting using a FireWire cable but the device is not showing up in "about this Mac".
The Sony website only provides information and downloads for Windows users.
I am desperate for any help someone might be able to give me as I need to download and post a DVD of my young son for an overseas medical assessment ASAP!
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi.
Is the Camcorder in VCR mode?
Does iMovie recognize the Camcorder? If so, then quit iDVD and move this file to the Desktop:
User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist
and try again with iDVD.
Do other peripherals mount through the Firewire port? If so, try another FireWire cable.
If none of the above works, just do an SMC reset.
Good Luck.

Have been using my nano with the firewire cable it came with since january. Used a friend's USB with the nano yesterday and not when I plug it in with the firewire it says "firewire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided." Help!

Have been using my nano with the firewire cable it came with since january
Then you have the only Nano that came with a Firewire cable and the only Nano in the world that can use Firewire.
    When did that change?
It changed when they made the very first Nano.
The Nano cannot and has never been able to use Firewire.
    I've always used it before...
    Not to sync you didn't.

  • Iphone 4 suddenly not recognised by windows 7 (32 bit)

I regularly synced my iPhone 4 with my PC without hitch.  Now, all of a sudden, Windows doesn't even recognise the phone so trying to sync via iTunes is impossible.  I've reinstalled iTunes but still get 'USB device not recognised'.  I've even tried connecting with the firewall turned off.  The PC and phone also don't seem to be be able to see each other via Bluetooth.  I'm using iTunes 10.4.1.10.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I have the same problem and I tried all of this and it still doesn't work. Do u have any other suggestions to resolve the problem. 2-3 weeks ago this problem didn't exist. Thank u!

  • External monitor suddenly not recognised

    Hi everyone,
Not sure if anyone can help me, but thought I'd try here before progressing any further. I have an 11-inch 2010 Macbook Air with an external monitor set up (Acer LCD, if it makes a difference) through a mini-display port to HDMI converter. Up until yesterday it was working with no problems, the HDMI does sound as well as video and it was very easy to set up and use.
Yesterday I tried plugging in the converter to the Air and turned the display on and I got a "Cable not connected" message on the display. I checked the plugs and restarted my Mac, but the same message came up.
The Air's screen flashes blue when the display is turned on, so the cables must be working to some extent (at least enough to recognise the display has been turned on). But the display system prefs and menu doesn't show it connected, and there's no option to turn mirroring on or anything, as there usually is.
Unfortunately I don't have any other HDMI cables or a converter to test this, but I was wondering if I can try anything else on my Mac before tracking some down. Would appreciate any help.

My Macbook Pro ran out of hard disk space, and suddenly stopped recognising my external hard drive
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It's very unlikely these two things are related, even though they apparently happened about the same time.
As you probably know, OSX likes at least 10% of it's drive free, 15% is better, 20% optimum (although I suspect that on very large drives, you don't need quite as much free space, percentagewise).
As dechamp says, the best way to be sure the drive is dead is if another computer doesn't recognize it either. In theory, something like DiskWarrior might be able to deal with it, but it's pretty unlikely to be worth the money (about $100 for DW) if you don't already have one.

  • Disk on firewire 800 not recognised until disk on firewire 400 powered up? Any solutions?

I have a Seagate Freeagent connected to firewire 800 and a Maxwell Onetouch connected to the firewire 400. The Seagate is not recognised until I power up the Maxwell but if I power up the Maxwell during before the power up of the seagate the Seagate again is not recognised. The Seagate is the designated Time Machine disk. Also when sleeping (but not always) the Seagate is dropped and I get a "dosk not demounted " message on waking. Any solutions known to these mounting problems with the firewire connections? Thank you.

I am answering my own problem. Install Lion! Problem has been solved. I always thought it was an OS problem. Good news.

  • Firewire. Not reading device.

Hello. I had a question as to how would you know if your firewire port is damaged (hardware) or if it is a software issue. I have a Apogee Duet that connects through firewire. The device lights up so I know there is power going to it, but once plugged in, my computer does not read it.
I have tried restarting and reinstalling the software but still no luck. Does anyone have any advice?
    Thank you.
Also, I have read somewhere that you can reset a certain type of memory that is associated with firewire. What I took from the reading was to basically restart the computer. Anyone know?

  • Colour cartridges suddenly not recognised

From time to time my printer decides it will not recognise the colour cartridge any longer.  I use 75xl.  This is despite the cartridge having worked perfectly up until that point, and definitely not being empty.  I take it out & put it back in and the messages alternate between the cartridge being incompatible, or missing.  When this has occurred previously I have put in a new cartridge and it's resumed working.  I then put the old cartridge it previously woulrn't recognise back in & away it goes until the next time.  It's just happened again, after successfully printing a couple of pages.  I put my spare cartridge in and it wont recognise that either now.  As there is a missing cartridge it wont print at all.  not even in black & white.  I've really had it with this printer, and the lack of support from HP.  My printer is out of warranty, but still printing/scanning/ photocopying just fine .. when it will recognise the colour cartrigde.  any ideas??  Or should i just go & buy another brand printer?

    Hi Anthea White,
I'm sorry you are having issues with the print recognizing colour cartridges.   There is actually circuitry between the ink cartridges and the circuitry in the printer.  I'm attaching a document that describes how to clean these electrical contacts.  Sometimes ink or dust prevents a connection from being made.
I hope this will help you!

  • MacBook Pro 1,1. OS X 10.6.8 Trying to connect an Edirol FA-101 via FireWire, Macbook not recognizing device.

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect an Edirol FA-101 to my MacBook Pro. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Other fireWire devices and drives work on the port, but the Edirol is not showing up in Audio MIDI setup or anywhere. I've tried both DC power and Bus power on the Edirol. Did the SMC reset, flashed the PRAM. Reset Permissions in safe mode. Still nothing. The lights on the device show that it is on and connected, but in system profiler I get "Warning: Unable to list firewire devices."
    Any ideas?
    Josh

Hate to say it, but it sounds like the device has gone kaputt.

  • Firewire suddenly not working

    Hi,
running 10.4.9, not sure when I updated from 10.4.8.
In the past, Have successfully used both Lacie Mini Hard Drive (firewire connection) & Panasonic AGDV2500 with this Powerbook.
Now suddenly, Final Cut Pro will not see Deck. And Powerbook does not see Lacie drive when I connect it.
Have tried both Shift-CTRL-Option & power button to reset, as well as power down, hold power for 30 seconds then power back up...in an attempt to reset the Power Management.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Gary,
Try doing a SMC and PRAM reset:
    1. Turn off your iMac and unplug everything from it for 30 seconds.
    2. Plug in the power cord, keyboard and mouse only.
    3. Press the power button and immediately hold down the Option, Command, P & R keys until you hear the second gong then release the keys. Your machine will start up normally, then check for the issues you are having.

  • USB suddenly not recognizing devices

    Hello,
    I have a problem.
My MacBook Pro suddenly stopped recognizing usb devices. This morning everything was working fine, but for some reason a couple of hours later it's not working anymore.
I can connect my phone via usb and it's reloading the battery. I can't get into my files though, while I was able to do that this morning.
My MaKey MaKey also gets power and the lights flash. I can use it to play an online game. It isn't being recognized as an usb device though, and I can't upload new code to it.
I haven't changed anything between the point it was working and the point it is not working anymore.
The only change is that I've tried to connect my MaKey MaKey and upload code to it. But that didn't work, because it said there was nothing connected to my usb port. That's how I found out that it was broken.
I have tried resetting my PRAM and SMC but it both didn't help.

    Thanks for your answer.
I already tried the things listed in the link you sent, but unfortunately they didn't work.
However, a few hours after I posted my question things started working again. I can connect my phone again, and the MaKey MaKey shows up in the USB list if you go to About this Mac. Still can't upload anything to it though.
But I guess my problem is solved.

  • Perplexing problem with iMac suddenly not recognising iWire access

I have a 24" iMac which has been running the most uptodate OSX Leopard software (I also have a PowerBook running the same, which is relevant).
Two days ago, my iWire connection to my broadband suddenly stopped. That is, when I opened up my iMac and it started searching for my iWire network, it found it, but then continually asks me for my WEP password, which I enter, then it says there a connection timeout and it will not connect to it.
Now, I know the Airport network is working fine, and the password hasn't changed, because I still get a perfect connection to my broadband via my Powerbook.
So, I've since tried a clean system install, and whenever the iMac searches for a computer link, it asks for a WEP password which I put in - accurately - and it no longer recognises it, even though I'd done nothing the change the settings. The only clue I have is that, during a software update, I do recall a firmware update for iWire, which I think I accepted. Has that caused it? But if so, why does it not affect my other PowerMac.
Am absolutely flummoxed and perplexed. Is this a firmware problem, in which case, how do I solve it?

    Hey Bushey,
I see that you had an issue with your aiport express not working, try this out:
Firstly, there are some issues with the airport utility for Leopard and AX.
you might want to try this:
    1) update the firmware of the AX to the latest by downloading the firmware update from the link below:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63formacosx.h tml
    2) IF it still persists, Using the Airport Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow will sucessfully resolve the issue.

  • Two Identical Firewire drives not recognised

I've just purchased a "Western Digital My Book Premium 500gb" Plugged it in and no problem all up and running. So decided on a second one plugged that in in the daisy chain and then the other drive dissappears saying that i have disconnected it!
The drive is fine as the new one will mount on its own without the other one present and its not my macbook pro since the same happened on my macmini.
Both systems are fully updated. The only way i can get the original drive to appear is to remove the other and then reset.
Also if both drives are connected during the boot up, the system hangs on a blue screen.
I am wondering if the Identy of the drives appear identical? I have been able to rename them differently but this has not helped.
    Any Suggestions please?
    Matt

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with two External Hardrives I bought (Seperate Welland HD enclosures with identical Seagate 250GB hard disks inside) Attempting to connect with Firewire 400
Exactly same syptoms (Disk Utilities shows they have the same connection ID.)
Did you ever manage to solve this issue. I would love to know an answer.
I can get the second drive recognised at the same time if I plug it into the USB 1 port on the mac - but thats not much use - too slow.
Also USB 2 doesn't seem to work either.

  • Firewire problem, not recognised!

Last week, I was censored by the Apple discussion staff board for being off-topics or not using technical terms. So I will try once again to expose my point of view. Don't forget, a discussion is when 2 people can have an argument,if you slap the door at me, it's not a discussion!
    Technical statement:
My firewire port stop functioning. It happens when we probably try to hook hard drive in it. I didn't notice till I try to hook my firewire audio interface in it. The apple system profilers say « Attention : Impossible de répertorier les périphériques FireWire » in other words could not find any FireWire peripherals!
A technician told me that I would need to replace the motherboard.
In other way I would have to 1500$ over de 3300$ that I paid to repair that fundamental part of my laptop.
    Here's a question;
    What can I do?
I need to be able to input music from my Firewire(only) audio interface!
A FW to USB gadget with lost of signals?
Here's another question would you pay half the price of a car you bought a year ago to fix the engine so you can use you investment?

Have you "reset" the Firewire ports, Path::x?
Shut down and remove all power to the computer (ie both the power adaptor and the battery when a notebook is involved) and remove any firewire devices.
Wait 15 minutes (some people say 30 minutes with some systems but 15 has done the job for me in the past) . Then hook everything up, preferably with a new FW cable, and check the system.
The FW ports on Macs are protected by a self resetting fuse. You have to go through this process to reset them if they get "triggered" for one reason or another (usually caused by a defective cable or device).
    Cheers

  • SR12 camera suddenly not recognised

Hi there. I have been capturing footage into FCP from my Sony SR12 without any problems....until today. It seems like FCP doesn't recognise that the camera is plugged in and connected. The camera is showing up on the mac and i can see that the files are there.
When I am pressing USB connect (hard drive) on the Sony it seems to connect ok
When I click "log & transfer" the L & C window opens but the footage doesn't populate. No thumbnails or anything show in the L&C window.
Previously its just automatically showed the files as soon as I open the L&C window.
Anybody have any suggestions for what I have done wrong?
I have been editing a different SD project in between, does the fact I have edited a project with different project audio/visual settings muck things up when then trying to capture AVCHD footage into a previous saved project. Can't think it would as FCP should let you capture different source media into same timeline.
    Cheers

Sorry I obviously confused you. I am not trying to work with my AVCHD footage in a Pal seq, it was just an example asking if it is critical to be working in a Pro Res project for the L&T to connect properly or is the seq you are in not important. I am trying to think of what has changed since my AVCHD stuff was working fine. The only thing I have done since is work on another project in FCP that was a SD pal project. I was just thinking that when I changed my project settings to work on the SD Pal job, the settings then have to be changed to work back on my AVCHD project ?

  • AE restart really needed?

Hello Experts, Is there any way around the annoying restart of the AE every time you make a minor change (e.g. add a DHCP reservation) If there is a way to save new settings into the device and restart it later, this would also work.
