Firewire transfer - widows- mac

Hi,
I am wanting to transfer data between a windows xp laptop and my mac mini. I have a firewire cable which has the normal firewire shaped end plugged into the mini, and the small end into the laptop.
What do I have to do to get the machines to notice eachother and data transferring?
Thanks for any help.

That's a nice place to look:

  • G5 shuts down on transfer to Mac Pro

Recently purchased Mac Pro and while attempting to transfer data to Mac Pro the G5 would shut down. I made several attempts and it continued to shut down. I adjusted the energy settings so that the G5 would not sleep. I'm sure the firmware is up to date. Would the 800 firewire transfer faster. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

    John,
I do not understand the problem with your G5. I do know that with my wife's G5 the fan speeds up when I have it operating in T-boot.
When I transferred files from my G4, I went through two stages. The initial was using T-boot. The second, ongoing, is via ethernet connection. I use my Macs' gigabit ethernet capability to the max. It's great!! I am the slow link in everything I do these days.
Your Mac pro has two ethernet connections. Have you considered using a direct ethernet connection from your G5 to the second port on your Mac Pro?

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 15 inch after having had an iBookG4 for some time. I have had minimal prolems with the G4.
I transferred everyting over to the MacBook pro without any problems and started on the updates when it crashed and was in for repair right out of the box. It required a new Logic board. I have it back after 2 weeks and having it crash right out of the box I didn't previously see that on System Profiler that while all the hardware and software etc is all correct, the title still says that it is my iBook G4 and not the MacBook Pro.
I have called support and reloaded the operating disk, rebooted in "Safe mode" nothing has corrected the title.
Support does not know how to fix it.
Has anyone else run into this and is there a fix?
    Thank you.

Try going into System Preferences --> Sharing. At the top of the Sharing window there is a place you can edit your computer's name. If you do file sharing, you'll need to deselect file sharing and then turn it back on after editing the computer's name.

  • Blog photo transfer for Mac

On the Google blog site there is offered a free download enabling transfer of photos to a URL, from which it can then be placed in a blog. As per usual, it works for Windows only.
Does anybody know if there is such a "service" offered anywhere for blogs on a Mac using Safari?

  • Nokia e7 and multimedia transfer for mac

i have nokia e7 , and i want to transfer my multi media file to my macbook pro. the website are recommend me to use a multimedia transfer for mac. i download it and i find that my mac can not be paired with e7. is it because i do it wrong or is nokia multimedia transfer for mac does not support for e7 ?
thank you so much for letting me know about the solution for this problem
    Solved!

Well I have no one to blame because I'm not a Mac user, but with the number of complaints I would say Nokia, don't have the technical knowledge, but I can't imagine it would be a major problem to get some compatibility with a Mac via Ovi suite, also as the E7 is virtually identical software wise to N8, and anything 'N8' I've put on mine has worked, it should be compatible with Ovi for Mac, surely not a major coding issue ?

  • Creating firewire network betw Mac OS 10.3.9 and PC laptop 4 internetting

    Hi,
I've gone over a few articles but haven't found the right one for my situation so I'm shouting this out.
How do I create a network (using firewire) between my Mac G4 and my cousin's PC laptop (also has a firewire)?
Secondly, how do I do so in order to enable her to access the internet from her laptop?
I have high-speed internet from an RCA broadband box. When the company installed it they said that if I wanted to have other computers in the house access the internet that I should get some kind of router. I'm not ready yet (financially) to buy a router, though I do have a firewire cable (or two).
    Can someone please advise?
    Thanks,
    Sheila

I know on the Mac side of it you do the following steps:
    1. Connect a FireWire cable to the FireWire ports on the computers you want to connect.
    2. Open System Preferences and click Network on the computers you are connecting.
    3. Choose Built-in FireWire from the Show pop-up menu.
    4. Click Apply Now.
If you have a firewall on the Mac you also will need to enable Web Sharing or open Port 80 on the firewall.
As for the PC side of it I don't know the steps, but what you want to do is make a network port configuration to allow the firewire port in, then set firewire to be the port on which the PC accesses the net.
    Hope this helps

  • AirDrop transfer between Mac mini (late 2012) and MacBook Pro (late 2008) works only one way.

AirDrop transfer between Mac mini (late 2012) and MacBook Pro (late 2008) works only one way.  I see both machines on both airdrop windows. Firewalls on both machines are set exactly the same way, and with Network Browser set to allow.  Can send a file from Mac mini to MacBook, but not the other way.  Never get a window asking to accept on the Mac mini.
Found no useful documentation on AirDrop anywhere in the whole support site.

Maybe this will work. From an Apple support article.
You can also use the Share button to send files to your neighbors via AirDrop. In a Finder window, select the item you want to share, and then click the Share button in the toolbar. For more information about the Share button, see this help topic:

I reach the stage wher my PC is ready to transfer, my mac is on the label page when pressing continue nothing appears to happen

I'm not sure what you mean by "my mac is on the 'label page'"?  Once your iMac has been fully set up already, then you can use its builtin feature called "Migration Assistant" to transfer files from your PC over to the Mac.  That's the recommended way of doing that.

  • Mac won't boot unless I boot in target disc mode firewired to another mac

I've worked for Apple and I am stumped....all of the genius crew at my store are stumped...and the only thing anyone can recommend is to depot my machine! Here is the situation:
The computer froze up, so I restarted- upon waiting for it to restart, after a long while I received the Slashed Circle at boot. When it was looked at in store, we discovered that when the computer is FireWired to another mac, I can boot my computer through another computer with no problem at all (Booting while holding down T on my computer and Booting the secondary computer holding down Option).
They tried to pinpoint the problem, but the computer still acted the same way (not able to boot on its own, but able to boot through another mac) regardless of the RAM or the Harddrive. What do you guys think is wrong with the logic board that would cause this problem?
[2009 15inch Macbook Pro running Mavericks]
    Thanks!
    Ash

You have me stumped as well.
When you connected your 2009 MBP as the Target,  the display shows the Firewire logo.  Correct?
The other Mac is booted and has access to the 2009 MBP HDD.  At that point, how did you boot the 2009 MBP?    Did the display on the 2009 MBP replace the Firewire logo with a startup display?  Where you then able to operate the 2009 MBP independent of the host Mac?
As I write this response, I have other applications running in the background that prevent me from turning off this MBP and testing Target disk mode with my other MBP.  Let me know how you did it so that I can run a test tomorrow and perhaps find some answers.
    Ciao.
