Firewire video in 64 bit mode - is this still a problem?

I've been holding off on upgrading from Logic 8 to 9 for a myriad of reasons, but the biggest head-scratcher for me is that you can't run Firewire video (or Digital Cinema Desktop, for that matter) in 64 bit mode.
Does anyone know if this issues still exist in 9.1.2/9.1.3?
Makes it very tough to score to picture when you can't see the picture...

This ONLY effects the 64-bit mode! And because Mac OS X doesn't offer this in 64-bit QuickTime, this problem still exists. But if you use Logic 9 in 32-bit mode, just like Logic 8, it will work fine.

  • Viewing video in 64 bit mode

    Hi all!
I have a 2008 Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.4 installed. When I try to view the likes of BBC iplayer or even video tutorials from the Apple site I get nothing, but when I switch Safari into 32 bit mode the video works fine. All the videos work fine in Firefox 3.5.6. Any suggestions would be most welcome!
    Thanks in advance.

Check your Quicktime 7 settings in System Preferences:
Under Streaming, set for Automatic, enable Instant On and Play Immediately.
Under Advanced, click Mime Settings and ensure that Streaming (both kinds) are enabled.
(Note that if you are running Snow Leopard you should be using Quicktime 7 and not version 10, which does not have a preference panel.)

  • I got a SPAM e-mail that when I mark as spam, it immediatly unmarks itself. I have turned off all addons and run in safe mode and this still happens.

First I am pissed that I had to make an account to report a bug.
Where should I send a copy of this e-mail so you can fix this bug that prevents spam from being marked as spam.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I went through all of my address books, and this e-mail address was not in any of them.

  • Too Many Activations...why is this still a problem?

So to make a long story short, I downloaded ADE onto my computer last week, everytime I open ADE from the same computer I get the message to authorize the computer which I have done, today I get the message that I have too many activations. Starting poking around these forums and other websites and have found that this is a pretty common problem and there seems to be no easy fix. I can't figure why Adobe does not have any easy fix for what seems to have been a problem with ADE for a couple of years? It seems to me that at this point it should be a matter of a simple phone call, silly me. First you have to get someone on the phone that speaks good english...
Anyone I put in my service ticket made three phone calls before I got someone that I could understand and of course he has no clue what to do. I just find that weird considering this seems to be a pretty common problem. Mostly I am just aggravated and venting. Any thoughts on this situation?

Hello, I am aware of the frame-by-frame feature within Photoshop. I meant exactly what I said. Though, I think I may have been a bit unclear. The Video Timeline is far better because I don't have to worry about tedious layer management. There is the addition of onion skinning. The only thing that I've found that the frame-by-frame animation allows for is to control timing in some elements.
    ~ Thank You

  • HT3395 Is this still a problem using iMovie 11 ?

I see the Sony HDR-SR11 is on the supported cameras list but has this note on stabilization.
Am looking for a good quality digital video camera to use with my iMac.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

It is still an issue, but in iMovie 11, you can run an analysis function to correct for rolling shutter so it is somewhat mitigated.
Almost ALL consumer level camcorders these days use CMOS chips because they are so much cheaper than CCD chips, so unless you spend a lot of money, you are going to have this issue with any camera.
Sony cameras are as good as any. If you stick with Sony, Canon, Panasonic you are in the mainstream of good cameras. Pick an AVCHD camera that stores to SDHC card.  iMovie will not import 60P but 30P and 25P work well in iMovie. If you buy a camcorder that shoots 60P, make sure it has a 30P mode as well.  60i and 30i work fine, but if I were buying a new camera, I would look for one that shoots in Progressive mode (like 30P).
See this section of iMovie 11 Help.

  • ITunes - 32 bit mode - with old video, in Yosemite?

    Hi,
I'm considering upgrading to Mac OS X Yosemite from OS X 10.7.5.  However, I have read online that Yosemite only supports 64 bit mode applications.
I have a large video library of iTunes content, which I began purchasing about 10 years ago. When I upgraded another Mac I own to 10.8 (from 10.6), I found that I could no longer play some of my iTunes video files. On example is Stargate SG:1.  Upon attempting to play this video and others, an error message would appear reporting that "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."
The solution to this problem (as described here: iTunes for Mac: Older media files may require iTunes to reopen in 32-bit mode - Apple Support) was to check the info box in iTunes to select operation in 32 bit mode.  This solved the issue- I was able to play the old video files.
Now I'm considering upgrading to Yosemite. However-- if this option is no longer available (running iTunes in 32 bit mode) will I still be able to play the older video files in the update version of iTunes and Yosemite?
    Thanks

    Hello there, macdev3456.
I definitely commend you for looking into the compatibility of Yosemite with the needs of your content before upgrading. It seem you are already familiar with the article that references the way to address playing content that requires 32-bit mode in iTunes 12 and OS X 10.10. These steps are still relevant in all current versions:
iTunes for Mac: Older media files may require iTunes to reopen in 32-bit mode - Apple Support
iTunes 10.4 or later on OS X Lion opens by default in 64-bit mode. However, some older media files in your iTunes library may still rely on QuickTime to play, and QuickTime only runs in 32-bit mode. In order to play media that encounters this issue, you will need to open iTunes in 32-bit mode first:
In iTunes, choose Quit iTunes from the iTunes menu.
From the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
Locate iTunes in the window that opens.
Click the iTunes icon to select it. Then, choose File > Get Info.
Enable the option to "Open in 32-bit mode."
    Reopen iTunes.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Firewire video and Logic Pro 64bit

Does anyone know if and when firewire support on 64bit will be available? I just read it needs to be implemented in Quicktime 64 bit. When will that be? Quite a pity my firewire convertor is no longer available in Logic. Switching to 32 bit is not an option; I need the gigs of RAM.
    thanks A

Just wanted to bump this thread up. Well is 2011 now, so we are still waiting for a solution for firewire video on 64 bit logic! C'mon Apple- we're waiting waiting waiting....
Apple, you are crippling the power users here - there is a (small) core community of folks buying your ultra high-hardware (for me a 5K 12core MPro) and using your pro apps, like Logic Pro. Until you give us this firewire solution we can't work with picture on external video monitors and take advantage of the extended memory addressing we need so desperately. One without the other is senseless, esp. when quicktime is such a CORE component of the operating system. PLEASE give us a 64 bit quicktime--- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - we promise we'll keep buying iphones, ipads, etc. too.
It seems so crazy we've bought a 64 bit computer, a 64 bit operating system, and a 64 bit App., yet an essential core system component of high end audio visual computing work is still not yet supported. Shame on you- the ball has been officially dropped here. I think I'll email Steve Jobs and see if I get a response... ya never know.

  • Do not upgrade to an IvyBridge processor if you need to boot into 32-bit mode with Lion

I recently upgraded to a MBP running the Ivybridge processor and tried to boot into 32-bit mode.  Although it did boot after a short period (3-5 mins) it totally crashed a locked up.  This was precursored by a graphics error and then the mouse cursor could be moved but nothing else could be done and it was only solved by a hard shut down (holding down the power button).  Previously I had been running a MBP with the Sandybridge architecture and this booted fine into 32-bit mode and worked without a problem.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with Apple care who said they'd not had any reports of this issue and we went right though my system until they said there was nothing else they could do and I should try a re-install of Lion.  I did this onto another hard-drive, booted into it and managed to get the machine to crash again... leading me to understand that it's nothing to do with my setup.
Thinking it might be an issue with my firmware on the mac today I visited an Apple store and tried booting 5 MacBook Pro's and a MacBook Air - all running IvyBridge - into 32-bit mode and managed to cause the same crash on all of them.  If the machine is just booted an left with finder it didn't seem to want to crash but when I opened programs, mainly mac mail, it didn't take too much longer for the crash to occur.
If there are any Apple engineer reading this could you try and reproduce the issue and look at fixing this please as a lot of people still use 32-bit and if I'd known that the IvyBridge processors weren't going to work in 32-bit mode I would have stayed with the Sandybridge MBPs.
    Many Thanks,
    Adam Peters,

That is a pain then.  Pretty much all of the OS included applications (finder, Mail, iTunes, Safari,...) are all fully 64-bit programs now (since Lion) so I can see where launching them when booted into 32-bit mode could cause stability issues.
If you boot into 32-bit mode and just run the Tascam software without launching anything else, will it work?
Was it alright in 10.6? And if so, how about keeping 10.6 in a virtual machine or on a separate disc or partition?

  • How do I reset Firefox to 64 Bit mode?

Netflix required a reset to 32-bit mode, but now that I'm here, I can not reset it in Mac OS 10.6. I can get into FF's information, and check the "start in 32-bit mode" box, but I'm stuck. I can't get it OUT of 32-bit mode.

Is this in your Google search results? You might need to delete the cookies Google has set on your Firefox.
First, save any pending work (e.g., draft Gmail messages). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try searching again. Does that help?

  • Firewire video output in high def?

    Hi all,
I currently use a Canopus ADVC110 to firewire-output my video inside Logic to my beamer in "lo res" PAL DV format. However, the beamer supports up to 720p HD resolution so I'd like to have a firewire video output device than can handle this higher output resolutions (eg through HDMI or component). Canopus doesn't seem to have any capable products.
    Anyone know of any options?
Or does it not exist due to limitations I'm not aware of?
    Thanks!

assimilation is the bomb. the bomb.
i have been playing it repeatedly from the demo player at symphobia. i think i heard about 2 bars of it and by mouse automatically went to the buy button.
i have to tell you i am the stingiest bloke out there when it comes to buying stuff for the studio. i could end buying all manner of stuff and have a huge amount of things that i hardly use or don't have time to learn that could be covered by other things i do have. i keep a very basic setup and prefer to design my own sounds from scratch. i (we) have recorded quite a few orchestral FX we like to use, but there is never enough. symphobia is going to perfect for my next 2 projects - one of which is a very big one. unfortunately it may not arrive in time. there will be live records in prague but it won't cover everything and i am a little concerned by the reports i have heard from the other composer on the project.
there will be some london recordings but they will sweetening only.
sorry to hijack your thread BTW. i have long admired your music and this was the first opportunity to tell you so.

  • How do I get Firefox to open in 32-bit mode every time?

Often, I will navigate to a site or page within a site and I get the message "restart in 32-bit mode." This is frustrating because once restarted, I'm taken to my browser homepage. I then am required to re-navigate back to where I was when I got the message to restart, sometimes deep with a site.

You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get those page back.
    Are you restarting this way?
    # Close Firefox
    # Open the Applications folder in Finder
    # Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
    # Select "Get Info"
    # Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
    # Close the "Firefox Info" window
    # Restart Firefox

  • Lightroom 2 will not launch in 64 bit mode on mac

I have a mac pro running leopard 10.5.4 and 10gb of ram. I have been running the lightroom 2 beta since it came out and am now using the trial of the final shipping version.
I don't think I have ever been able to get lightroom to launch in 64 bit. As soon as I click the icon on the dock after setting it to 64 bit mode it crashes. Everything works fine in 32 bit mode but 64 will not start. I have tried deleting the peference files and it still won't launch. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I would like to buy lightroom once the trial ends, but I do not know what to do if I can not even get it running in 64 bit.
    I appreciate any help. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. Opens fine on my MBPro but not on my Mac Pro tower. The strange thing is that LR2 is running in 64 bit mode on my MBPro, but, the "open in 32 bit mode" box is still checked. Flat-out will not open in 64 bit mode on my tower. I checked with tech support, but, they could only get it to open on my tower if I created a separate user log-in on my tower and then it would open in 64 bit mode under that "new" user. So, they reasoned it was a "user configuration" issue.

  • I set firefox to open in 32-bit mode but it doesn't.

Netflix instant streaming still asks me to restart in 32-bit mode even tho I followed the instructions to ALWAYS start in 32-bit mode. I even reinstalled firefox. On Netflix when I click on the button to restart in 32-bit mode, it goes in a loop and just keeps asking for the 32-bit mode. This is a new problem, since in the past restarting in 32-bit mode always worked.

This is a known problem with Netflix and Microsoft Silverlight right now. You can try the following:
See if there is an update for Microsoft Silverlight.
After checking for updates, Go to Finder, then Applications. Right click on Firefox, then click "Get Info". Then check the box that says "open in 32-bit mode". Restart your PC, and test again. Does it work now?

  • Running in 64-bit mode

Will running my MBP in 64-bit mode (holding 6 & 4 during boot) give me less battery life on a charge? If so, approximately by how much? I'm considering running my Mac Pro in 64-nit mode permanently but can't decide on my MBP based on this question.
    Thanks in advance - Will

CS4 runs perfectly well when booted in 64 bit mode. The program isn't 64 bit of course, but it does run fine.
My Geekbench scores are considerably higher running in 64 bit mode. (4712 vs 4147). With memory performance higher in 64 bit (3196 in 64 bit mode vs 2919 in 32 bit) and memory bandwidth performance of 2050 (64 bit mode) vs 1972 (32 bit mode) and with tests of things Photoshop would be doing (sharpen, blur, compress and decompress image)and memory functions (read/write) all faster in 64 bit mode, it stands to reason that Photoshop is benefitting from booting in 64 bit mode. It's quite difficult to tell if it actually runs faster or not booted in one mode vs the other without a lot of tests, but it sure seems like it's a little faster. Maybe not a significant difference, but it does seem to be.
Lightroom is a 64 bit application. I've never used it in 32 bit mode on this machine, and I can't really say it runs any faster booted in 64 bit mode, but again, with a lot of functionality that it uses running faster it stands to reason it's faster booted in 64 bit mode.
I have no idea about battery life, my iMac doesn't have a battery!
