Fireworks 8-Bit Export Issues

Hello,
I've been a loyal Fireworks user since 2003. I'm at the point now where if Adobe ever discontinues it, I'd probably quit the industry before I'd go back to designing Websites in Photoshop .
I've had this issue for a few years now and was never able find a satisfactory solution. I was hoping someone may have an answer or at least offer a good explanation as to why things have to be this way. I am currently using CS3.
Here's the issue -- when exporting a graphic as either GIF or PNG-8, significant banding and other artifacts occur no matter what the quality or export settings are. This is NOT the normal banding associated with the limitations of 8-Bit graphics (yes I am aware of the difference between GIFs and JPGs). This is Fireworks seeming to not detect enough colors. Even when I set the colors to 256 (and click "rebuild"), Fireworks will only include 113 colors, for example, and I will get the artifacts. There is no way for me to manually include all 256 colors (short of manually adding them 1 by 1, I guess, but I didn't try that because that seems like a ridiculous waste of time).
Moreover, the exact same graphic exported from Photoshop using identical settings yields a much higher quality graphic.
I've uploaded two screenshots for comparison:
A graphic ready to export in Fireworks as a GIF: DOWNLOAD/VIEW
Note the significant and noticeable banding. Also note only 230 colors are being included in the color table even though 256 colors are chosen from the export settings.
The EXACT SAME graphic ready for export in Photoshop: DOWNLOAD/VIEW
Note in spite of the identical settings, the Photoshop version is much smoother. Also note Photoshop is using all 256 available colors.
So is there anything I can do about this? Some way to force it to fill the color table? Dithering isn't really something I want to do.
I realize under normal circumstances these graphics are more suited for being JPGs. But there are times where I NEED something like transparency and JPG is not an option. More importantly, I would like to use Fireworks' ability to export PNG-8's with alpha transparency (so it looks cecent in IE6 without hacks and IE-specific code) but this issue keeps me from doing so.
Thanks!

I'm not sure what makes me more sad/angry...
That it's (yet another) Fireworks bug (although the term bug may be arguable, it's a bug to me). Here we are on version 10 some of the most basic functions just flat out don't work right. I'm very worried Adobe is going to neglect and discontinue this product -- it has such a ridiculous amount of potential, yet I could sit here right now and list 100 bugs/annoyances that have been around forever and still aren't fixed. I read over that CS4 update released the other day, and aside from the text engine fix, all I could think was "this isn't NEARLY enough"...
That the Fireworks team is aware of it. To me this means if it's not already fixed, then I shouldn't hold my breath.
That you are suggesting -- best case scenario -- we will have to wait for CS5. And Adobe will actually expect us to pay for a fix.
Maybe they could just integrate Photoshop's export engine. Although given how they did integrating Photoshop's text engine, I'm afraid to ask.
Completely off topic, but while we are on the subject of bugs/limitations, you know that issue where appying a layer mode (like overlay) to an object, then grouping it, then either grouping it again or converting it to a symbol wipes out the layer mode completely? How many times a day do you run into that one? For me, it is completely crippling to my workflow, and renders the symbol library completely uselss to me. And yeah pretty sure the team knows about that one too.
Also, have you checked out http://adobegripes.tumblr.com/ yet? If you have any experience with Adobe products, it is LITTERALLY coffee-through-the-nose funny at times.

  • Using 128bit key Blowfish and any export issues

    Hi,
I want to use blowfish (symmetric key algorithm) in my product and which will be shipped outside US. Reading Sun's documentation I am bit confused and I am not sure if the jce package is going to be available outside the US.
Has anyone used the default available symmetric key algorithms in the JCE package (javax.crypto.*) and faced any export control issues ?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks
    RT
    Here is a sample code
    String ks = "123456789123456";
    kb = ks.getBytes();
    SecretKeySpec key = new SecretKeySpec(kb,"blowfish");
    Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("blowfish");
// Initialisation of cipher object for Encryption.
    cipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key);

    1. the issue is rather an import issue for some countries, than an export issue for US as far as you use jre>=1.4 .
    you can read the
'Downloading the "Unlimited Strength" Jurisdiction Policy Files'
    section of
    http://java.sun.com/products/jce/javase.html
    2. The restricted (defualt) shipped version already covers Blowfish if you mind that.
    3. I use Blowfish with restricted (default) version of JCE in applications deployed in europe and have not heard of customer complaining sofar: they are supposed to use webstart or jre1.5.

  • Bizzare export issue

Here is a very weird export issue. Windows XP.
Project is set at h264 1920x1080 mono audio 29.97 fps
I have 30 shots that make up the sequence. Each shot is exactly 90 frames. I exported each sequence at h264 1920x1080 with one channel of audio. The first shot exports just fine and is 5 MB. The second shot exports at 10 MB. The third is 15 MB, the tenth shot is 50MB. But the picture is still 90 frames for each shot. BUT, when I export without audio each exported file is just 5 MB. If I look at the properties of each clip the duration of the video and audio is just 90 frames. If I open one of these clips in QuickTime Pro and re-export it as source then the files size goes back to 5 MB; same video, same audio yet with the correct file size.
    Anyone seen this before?
Is there a setting that could be incorrect?
    -cablet

Weird, man. Not sure what might cause that.

  • Crystal JRC PDF Export Issue

We are experiencing a PDF export issue with Crystal JRC version 12.2.202.  The PDF report shows 1 of 3 pages but ONLY the first page is generated.  When this occurs, ALL other users that are exporting to PDF experience the same issue with any multiple page report.  I can't find any errors in the log that would indicate what the problem is.  To resolve the issue, I have to recycle the WebLogic application server that hosts  the JRC, which would indicate something gets "locked" in memory and gets cleared when the app server is bounced.
Any ideas on how to resolve this ?

    Hi Ted,
    Thanks for the response!
Though, the mentioned Sun JVM Bug explains the root-cause, the Bug status also state that it is not fixed yet.
Also, we are reluctant to change the JVM Option to -Xint due to unknown impacts on JVM optimizations.
Is there a patch released for CrystalReports to deal with this behavior? We are using CRJ runtime 11.5.7.620 and seeking for a patch on this version.
    Thanks.

  • PP CS5.5 FLV To MP4 Export Issues / Problems

I just upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS5.5. I do a fair amount of converting/exporting of imported FLV files (downloaded from internet news sites) to H.264/AAC w/ MP4 wrappers using Premiere Pro (PP) and Adobe Media Encoder (AME). My equipment is a 1+ yr. old HP Win 7 Pro w/ an Intel i970 Quadcore, 12 Gb RAM and MSI nVidia GTX 470 GPU. I have never experienced any queue or export issues w/ CS5 (at least that I noticed), but I am experiencing noticeably degraded queue export and direct export problems with these files in CS5.5.
Description: (1) The queue export times for the exact same imported FLV clip(s) using the exact same sequence settings and H.264/MP4 export settings are noticeably slower in CS5.5 (sometimes 2x, depending on the export settings, e.g. using maximum render quality) than in CS5; (2) My MSI Afterburner GPU monitoring software indicates 5-10% GPU usage during queue/export in CS5, while indicating 0% GPU usage (flatline) in CS5.5; and (3) When I attempt to direct export these files using CS5.5 I get the following error message: "The source and output audio channels are not compatible or a conversion does not exist."
I suspect that it may have something to do with "conforming" anomalies when the FLV file is imported into PP, but I would put that squarely in the category of rank speculation on my part.
Has anyone experienced the same or similar problems or have any insight into what may be the problem(s)? Of course, thanks for any help/insight you can provide.
    Jim

What do you mean by a better routine?
A better compression routine than H.264.
Is the quality better than H.264?
    Yes.
Does this use an MOV wrapper?
    Yes.
Also, would it import correctly into PPro?
    Yes.
we would import files into PPro exported out of FCP and would get a red pixelated glitch during preview and export. Does this codec solve this problem as well if it is an MOV wrapper?
I don't know anything about FCP.
Sorry for all the questions, just want to get things right before diving into a new codec.
    It's harmless, and free.
Download it and run some tests.

  • Simple flash export issue

    hello
I'm trying to export a flash video using Adobe media encoder from Premier Pro, but when I do I get this error " there are no clips to build".
I have another file that I am able to export and it does not have this problem.
They are Windows Media files and play in Premier fine. I am using Premier Pro CS3.
Lastly, I'm not a video expert but I really need to get these up on the web for work, there is a lot of pressure and I need to get it done.
    Regards,
    Tom

    fixed the exporting issue.

  • Exporting ISSUES! Help

I am a relatively new user to lightroom.  I haven't had any exporting issues until today.  I am attempting to export a photo/photos to a specific folder with a custom name.  When I do this it exports the WHOLE library and NOT the edited photo.  What am I doing wrong??

Lightroom usually exports all images that are highlighted. If you only want to export one image then make sure it is the only image that is highlighted.

  • Exporting issues after 4.2 upgrade

Has anyone else experienced exporting issues after installing the 4.2 upgrade? It used to be a breeze but now I keep getting the message that a destination folder has not been specified even though I've done that. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Are you using an Export preset, or setting the Export up manually each time?

  • Reporting Export Issue from Taleo

Can anyone help?  We have a work around for the Exporting Issues into Excel 2010 regarding figures and dates only reading as text, however, a new issue has arisen.   In one field we have Aggregated Agencies assigned to any particular Job Code.   In the legacy reports, every agency name exported into one cell in Excel, now they export into individual rows, this causes a report to be too long and there is no way to amalgamate them into one cell.    Has anyone found a workaround for this?

is there someway that it was reformatted by the Iomega drive being daisy chained to it?
No. That is not possible -anyway, reformatting erases everything on a drive.
You would have noticed that first.
You can download the [NTFS-3G driver|http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com> which will let you read, write and even reformat the clients drive as NTFS on the Mac. All reasonably modern Windows PCs work with this disc format and you won't run into the file size limitations associated with FAT formatted drives.

  • Cr8.5 on 64 bit windows 7 exporting issues

    Hello,
We are using cr8.5 on windows 7, both 64 and 32 bit.  Both are able to display reports just fine.  The problem comes with exporting, specifically excel exports.  32 bit is fine, but 64 bit is iffy at best. Some reports it works, some it doesn't. Anybody ever have export problems on 64 bit windows 7 that they were able to solve?
    thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
Congratulations on getting the reports to mostly work on 64 Bit Windows 7.  The general answer you will get at this time is 8.5 is not supported on Windows 7.
Not the answer you were expecting but only XI R2 and higher are supported.
    Sorry,

  • Bug in fireworks CS4 when exporting 24/32bit png with transparent alpha?

    Hi there,
I recently upgraded to CS4 from CS3 and am quite disappointed to find that the png export facility for 24 or 32 bit png's is next to useless on my installation of Fireworks (Vista). I have a colleage who has reported the same behanviour on his mac.
Please see this native fireworks CS4 png file and attempt to export it as 24 or 34 bit png, ensuring the canvas is transparent (it shuold be already)...
    http://www.capitalh.net/demo-bug.png
Viewing in preview mode in CS3 would show the png with its alpha channel indicated by the chequered transparent pattern. Exporting it as such would produce the desired result > a png with a nice blended alpha channel.
Viewing in preview mode in CS4 shows a horrible render of the image on a white background. Exporting the image produces the same result. Please see this link for confirmation:
    http://www.capitalh.net/demo-bug-export.png
Please also see this simpler image, this time using a simple ellipse shape:
    http://www.capitalh.net/demo-bug-export-simpleshape.png
You'll notice that it is not transparent, and the ellipse has not been anti-aliased.
Can anyone shed some light on this behaviour?
Exporting png's as such is something that I do daily at work, and is a basic requirement of an image editting application targetted at web design.
Am I doing something wrong? I've been using Fireworks since 2003 so I'm inclined to think that I'm not.

That's a bit, um, oh never mind. Would've been a rubbish joke anyway.
    Aww...pooh. I love "rubbish" jokes!
If fireworks is unable to export a transparent png at 24bit, then why have the option?
(granted the option is acutally implied, not given)
Also, why the horrible rendering on preview and export?
Transparency for 24-bit isn't an option and isn't implied. Create a FW document with a transparent canvas. Go to File>Image Preview. If you select PNG8 as your export option, then you have drop-downs for No Transparency, Index Transparency, or Alpha Transparency. PNG32 shows the checkerboard where the document is transparent. If you select PNG24, you do not have the transparency options. Transparent areas in your document are set to white, just as they are if you select the JPEG format. Try it.
I don't know why your rendering is horrible. I'd have to see your image.
And also, why all this confusion related to Photoshop, seems Adobe really aren't helping the issue:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/152434
Possibly Adobe thought it was less confusing, as they didn't have to go into the math. However, you do see Linda Rathgeber's answer, that the Photoshop convention is...well...misleading? (I'd call it wrong, but that's just me. ) It's just one other issue to bring into alignment as Adobe works to merge the Macromedia offerings into their line.

  • BMP 8Bit export issue - Can't force to use full color range

I want to export to BMP 8 bit (to save file space compared to BMP24) but Fireworks cannot be convinced to take advantage of the full range of 256 colors and only uses 80 colors of a smooth gradient, leading to a ugly choppy gradient fill.
Here is a video of the issue: http://screencast.com/t/Zjk2ZTc4OT
Any help would be very much appreciated. Is it a bug?

    Yes, it is a bug.
    Please, report it.
For now, there is nothing else we can do about it...

  • Gallery problems and photo export issues with all images JPG Raw damaged.

I'm starting to panic. I trusted Aperture 3 and upgraded entire library from Aperture 2.0.
Yesterday I uploaded new project from a photoshoot. and today is gone. Just like that. I did some export already before from that project so I know that it was there.
Yesterday I had couple crashes. But it should be saved??
Now I have serious problem. I export any Jpegs from Aperture. and when I want to process them in CS4 photomatix etc I get this http://www.flickr.com/photos/procekim/4360611822/
It does it in 32 and 64 bit? What is the problem? I can expot JPG and raw and get same result. entire gallery from 2000 to 2010 same issue.
I'm badly hurt!!!!!!!!!!!! do you have same problem??

this gave me a scare. I deleted preferences + everything in pro applications. I deleted Aperture and reinstall everything from the disk. Updated library and now it works. I even get my lost project back. It remembered my Places, but not faces, strange.
I have no idea what happened. But from now on I double copy files.

  • When is the h.264 bit rate issue going to be fixed?

If you export a project in After Effects using the H.264 codec the file you export does not have the correct bitrate. Meaning if you export a video at 1mbps compression rate you will not get a video that has 1mbps bitrate. This has been an issue since day one along with header issues in the .mp4 file. Please do not tell me not to use AE to create H.264, this is what we used and works fine in CS4. The same issues arrises when you use Adobe Media Encoder CS5.
Does anyone have a solution or anyone from Adobe have any suggestions?

    Thanks but that didn't help.
I believe I have found out the actual issue. CS5 will not render a project above the lowest bitrate of the source video for H.264. So if you have a video file at 300kbps it cannot be rendered above that point. This is a problem when you understand how bitrates\codecs work. Not all codecs need an extremely high bitrate in order for the quality of the content to look good. We use the TechSmith screen capture codec a lot. This codec is create for screen capturing, it provides a low bitrate file which is small in size and easy to handle. We have been using this combination with the CS package since before it was CS. The videos we procude look great in CS4  but awful in CS5. When using mediainfo to check out a video file compressed in CS5 it gives us a Bit Rate and a Normal Bit Rate. Normal bit rate is what is requested, say 1mbps and the actual Bit Rate is what the source material was.
In any case the video files look like crap because a 250kbps .mp4 looks awful compaired to a 250kbps video using the TSCC codec. So yeah, not using CS5 and most likely won't be doing any more upgrades in a while. I'm responsible for purchasing over 10 licenses. Just wanted to let Adobe know they won't be getting that money again for a while until they figure out there compression issues.

  • CS3 H264 Export Issues

I have got an Issue with exported videos through Premiere Pro CS3. I know I am using an old version but I felt no need to upgrade.
I am facing an issue I haven't faced before. I am exporting a video (no footage, just one music track with still images with fades and effects); when I play the video back in all media players, I get strange play back issues. The preview before export plays fine, so it is definitely after the export. The first time I exported the video, it would play find up until a certain point, the video would seem to freeze but the audio contiunes. When I skip through the video, the sync issues become worse. I though if I just played through the who video with no skipping, maybe it would be fine. But it would always freeze at a certain point. I thn exported the video again, this time it was 1080p. I had the same issue but not it was even worse. The video would freeze much earlier in the video. I though possibly I was having issues with playback on my computer, if I uploaded the video to youtube, it would playback properly. There are still issues with playback on youtube, the first 3 minutes seem to be cut off, and at the end of the video, the video would finish, but there would be another 3 or 4 minutes left to allow the music track to end. I am getting audio sync problems but not in the tradition sense, where maybe they are playing at different speeds. The problems seem to be much more complex and the video just freezes at certain point. It;s all very confusing and hard to explain, and I have found no help. I am thinking maybe it's codec problems, but this is the first I have encountered it.
    Premiere Export Settings:
Both video's are MP4 exported with H264 codec
    First Try export settings:
    1280x720
    Data Rate:1778 kbps
    Total bit rate: 2095 kbps
    bit rate: 317 kbps
    audio sample rate: 48khz
    Second try
    1920x1080
    Data rate: 4452 kbps
    Total bitrate: 4642 kbps
    bit rate: 189 kbps
    Audio sample rate: 48khz
    System:
    Windows 8.1 64 bit
    6gig ram
The timeline wasn't pre rendered, but I have never done that and never faced problems before.
Here's the uploaded youtube video of the first export:
Leeds Reunion 2015 Mix - YouTube
As you can see, the tracks do not match up with the songs, if you skip to 41:06, the video starts it's outtro, but there is about 4 minutes left to allow the audio track to finish.

For the jerkiness go to your preferences and change the live draw to delayed, or if that doesn't help, maybe never.  The place to go is Edit > Preferences > General.
When you try to past from CS3 to CS5 do you have both open in CS5?  Might sound a dumb question but if you have one open in CS3 and one in CS5 it isn't going to work, so even if you have a document you want to keep in CS3 for the purposes of copying just open it in CS5, it wil convert to a CS5 document and you will be able to copy and paste between them.
One last tip, when converting docs to CS5 from CS3, particularly larger ones, there have been quite a few reports of instability, sometimes leading to corruption, but mind you we only see the problems on this forum.  To prevent this happening the best route is to export from CS3 to inx format and open that in CS5.  YOu can do that automatically with whole folders (and sub-folders) of files with the batch convertor script that is my latest favourite, it is made by Peter Kahrel and is free, you'll find it here.  With that you can use it in CS3 to convert a whole batch to inx, then use it in CS5 to convert those inx files to CS5 indd.  Super handy, really fast, and great for mass exports too.
