Fireworks 8 not working

Hi All
After having to reformat my hard drive and reinstall all
software, I find that none of the selector panels on the left of
the workspace no longer work. As an example, I can open a new
document and size it correctly but if I import an image I do not
get the insertion tool. I cannot select any of the options like
text or lasso tool etc. Fill works and so does slice but nothing
else. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no effect. Even opening
an existing png file does not allow me to select any of the
elements, all I get is the movement hand tool shown. Dreamweaver
and Flash all work correctly.
Any suggestions or should I continue with the red
wine?

  • Fireworks not working on main user

I purchased the new WebPremium CS3 last year when it came out
and I can't use Fireworks on my computer unless I create a new user
and use it on that user. It is a real pain as I have to keep
switching users and find the files in the shared folders. I wasted
a day with Adobe uninstalling and re-installing this before they
told me it was a known issue. I have Windows XP service pack 2, and
thought that they would do an update to repair this, as a few other
programs I use need Fireworks to work properly. But here it is
almost three months later and nothing. Has anyone else experienced
this? And did you find a fix that their technicians don't know
about? It was only after talking to them off and on all day that
someone told me it was an issue, as it seemed a new problem to the
other three people I spoke to. I get this error when I try to open
Fireworks. "the application fireworks has unexpectedly quite. A
    crash report has been generated"
    Thanks

In case anyone wants to know what the issue was with
Fireworks, it is apparently a connection to Dreamweaver! What I had
to do was to export all the sites I have listed, and then go into
the regedit and rename the Fireworks folder (within the Adobe
folder) and the sites folder (that path is: adobe - common - 9 -
sites). Then Fireworks would open. I imported all my sites at once,
and Fireworks wouldn't open again. So I went back and changed the
newly created folders in Reg edit again and then one by one
imported my sites until I found the one that was causing the
problem. I deleted it and then renamed it, and set up that file
again and everything worked. ( I imagine if you just deleted them
all from your list of sites, that would work too, if you weren't
keen on touching your regedit) The issue with the site that was
causing the problem was (I think) that the person's web site has an
apostrophe and although their domain doesn't, I named the site this
in the manage sites section, and it allowed it but screwed up
    Fireworks.
It's a strange problem and this is the way they've worked
around it. I'm most relieved to be able to use Fireworks within the
    same user again!

  • Dreamweaver and Fireworks not working correctly

I am taking a DW8 class. I have MANY photos I want to use
fireworks for. Installed free 30 trial of DW8 and Fireworks from my
books CD. Did what DW8 said in creating web photo. Used Fireworks
BUT when I clicked on the photo to enlarge I got the black box
around it saying I could enlarge it NOT view it like a picture
show. What I want is to have all photos per event show up and then
let people click on the photo to see either that ONE OR ALL but
full screen. What do I need to do? Should I try downloading the 30
trial from this site for both programs instead of the CD from the
    DW8 instruction book?

    Hi
The software crashes or freezes.  Fireworks will only let me save an item twice, after that, I get an error message that tells me I do not have permission to save that item because it is locked, so then have to save into a different folder or directory, crazy.
When trying to uninstall in control panel, will not open the uninstall, think some kind of permission problem.
I may just do a system restore back to how the computer was purchased, then install all programs again.............  See if that works first.  None of the other programs are doing this; however, just Adobe, so not sure what happened, just started working like this out of the blue.............?
I am going into a long meeting this morning, so can only work on it in the afternoon.
    Thanks for replying...........

  • Help! Upgrade Fireworks CS5 (from Creative Suite 5 Web Premium) to Fireworks CS6 not working!

Today I bought and downloaded Fireworks CS6 from the Adobe webshop as an update for my Fireworks CS5 that was included in my Creative Suite 5 Web Premium-set.
But during the installation of Fireworks CS6 the serial number of my Creative Suite 5 Web Premium - needed for the installer to verify that I could 'legaly' upgrade - was not accepted! So now I can use Fireworks CS6 only as a try-out-version...
What can I do? If Creative Suite 5 Web Premium isn't the right upgrade-version: how can I get my money back? Or is there another solution?
    Please help Adobe!
    And thanks in advance,

Thanks for the reply. but how do I manually weed out the install entries in my registry? could you please guide me with the steps? This http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html is not working I am afraid. I understand that I need to uninstall the creative suite before I run CS cleaner. But as I explained in my first question, the uninstallation is not working at all. Even I could uninstall the software, I am afraid that I may get into trouble if installatin is not working. All I want is that my photoshop error " save for web devices " which was grayed out should work as normal. This error happened after I moved the plug-ins.
    Thanks

  • Batch Procedure Not Working For Image Resizing in Fireworks 8

Scaling graphics with a batch process. You can alter the
height and width of images being exported using the Scale option in
the Batch Process dialog box. To set scaling options for
    batch-processed files:
Select Scale from the Batch Options list and click Add. In
the Scale pop-up menu, select an option:
Scale to Fit Area makes images fit proportionally with the
maximum width and height range you specify.
If you have chosen either Scale to Size or Scale to Fit Area
in the Scale pop-up menu, you can also choose to scale only
those documents that are currently larger than the target
size. To do so, select the Only Scale Documents Currently Larger
Than Target Size option. Click Next to continue the batch
process. For information on completing the batch process,
This routine us not working as described: It is only
modifying files larger than the dimension I wanted, whereas in the
Fireworks MX, it would upsize smaller images to this requirement.
Just FYI, we did not have the box checked to only apply to
documents that are currently larger than the target size.
IS THIS A BUG IN THE FIREWORKS 8 ???
This is one of the primary reasons we use this software
ALL RESPONSES WELCOME, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT WILL FIX THIS
    ISSUE !!!!
    JSEVonda

I agree the option should not be there if it doesn't work.
    Quite
honestly, I think the FW team missed it in the last upgrade.
And you're talking about more than just scaling - you are
    most likely
including an export command as well, this was not indicated
    in your
original post. Keep in mind your scaling occurs BEFORE any
    saving of the
file at any new optimization setting. Maintaining a low
    compression
would help, yes, but I'm not referring to quality loss
    through
compression, I'm referring to quality loss through data
    extrapolation
(interpolation?). When you resample an image to a large pixel
    count, you
are asking the software to use an algorithm to create pixel
    data that
did not exist in the original file. Whether it's Photoshop or
    Fireworks,
quality loss will happen in a bitmap file. In short, you're
    asking the
software to make an educated guess about the data in these
    new pixels.
As for your end results - you did not indicate the original
    size of your
files (pixel dimensions), nor how much you are upsampling. If
    your
files are not being upsampled too greatly, and/or there is a
    great deal
of pixel data to begin with and/or the final upsized images
    are not
really large then it's possible that you do not notice any
    significant
    loss in quality.
My assumption was you were working with small files in terms
    of
resolution. Generally, though, web images are not large to
    begin with
and do not have a huge pixel count, so resizing them upwards
    would
    usually be noticeable.
All I am pointing out is that the file would not have the
    same quality
as the original, even if the option was working. Whether that
    difference
    in quality is noticeable . . .
For example, I took an image that was 72 x 54 pixels, resized
    it 200 %
to 144x108 pixels. Bigger image, but quality is low and
    noticeable.
I do the same thing with a file that is 1024 x 768 and I can
    still see
some loss, but it doesn't look quite as bad. IT is however,
    noticeably
    more blurry than the original.
And now how about a possible FW solution? ;-)
    Open ONE file in FW
Set your jpeg quality to 100 (Type the value, do NOT use the
    slider)
Go to Modify > Transform > Numeric Transform
Set your new image size to the desired dimensions
    Click OK
Go to Modify > Canvas > Fit Canvas
Find those three steps in the History panel and save it as a
    custom
    command.
You will now be able to access this step in the Batch Process
    Wizard, in
the Commands menu. or in the Commands menu in FW.
Add your other batch steps. You do not need the export option
    because we
set that up in the custom command, but you might want to use
    the Rename
    operation.
    Click Next
Choose an export directory if you wish
Save the script to create a complete custom command that
    handles both
sizing and exporting and file renaming and a custom location
    for saving
    the file.
This one script can then be used either from the Batch
    Process Wizard OR
from the Commands Menu in FW.
One note, if you choose a custom location for the files to be
    saved,
that directory gets written into the command, so whenever the
    batch is
run - that is where the new files will go.
As for other programs, Photoshop comes to mind. I'm sure
    there are
other, specialized batch processing programs out there which
    could do
    exactly what you want.

  • Fireworks Nav menus to Dreamweaver (CS3) not working

    Hi!
Having used Dreamweaver and Fireworks V8 for a while (2
years) i upgraded to CS3 versions, and then went to update a menu
    from
    http://www.hernebayhigh.kent.sch.uk/welcome2.html
(edit popup menu) within Fireworks which went fine and exported the
HTML and then went in to DW to import the HTML (like i have done a
thousand times before), the menu looks great when to check and it
in either Firefox, Safari (OSX) and IE6 and 7(WIn) the pop up menus
    do not work at all!?!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks all!!!
    Steve

I have experienced the similar problem when building entire
pages from fireworks CS3 (with dd menu) and exporting into
    dreamweaver.
Someone recommended using spry widgets in dreamweaver
instead- might be worth looking into?

  • Fireworks Rollover Works in Preview but Not In Dreamweaver

    Hey,
I have created a rollover image in fireworks, which works in the preview option on fireworks.
I have exported it as : html & images, exporting slices.
This works when I open it straight from the file BUT when I try pasting it into dreamweaver (insert -> image: fireworks html) the box where the rollover image appears but with a cross in it.
I have also tried copying the html from fireworks into dreamweaver but this doesn't work.
When I try this the image appears and the link works BUT the rollover doesn't?
This is the code I use:
    <a href="www.whereartyou.co.uk/reviews/evahesse" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('Page1','','<img src="images/Page 1_f2.gif" width="400" height="310" />',1)"><img name="Page1" src="file:///C|/where art you/images/Page%201.gif" width="400" height="310" border="0" id="Page1" alt="" /></a>
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
    Cheers

This doesn't appear to be a Flash related posting, so you might get better results in the Dreamweaver forum...

  • PDF HotspotsLinks DO NOT Work

I am following the Careshare tutorial from the Adobe
developers site. I've created the wireframe sample document,
including the 3 hotspots at the top of the document.
Per the tutorial I exported the Fireworks .png file to Adobe
Acrobat, yet when the file opens in Acrobat the hotspot links
created in Fireworks do not take me to the other pages of the
    document.
All of the pages (3) are exported into the .pdf file, but the
    links don't work.
    Any ieas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

I may have answered my own question.
When I first created the document I seleted all three areas
that were to have a hotspot. I then right clicked and selected
Insert Hotspot, and then selected multiple hotspots. I then
assigned a wireframe page to each hotspot.
Upon exporting to PDF this method DID NOT work, i.e., the
hotspots were not active in the Acrobat document.
However, I found that if I created each hotspot individually
using the hotspot tool under the WEB tools, and then assigned the
link to the proper page, the hotspots functioned as expected after
    exporting to Acrobat.
I Hope this helps sombody else.

  • My fonts are not working correctly

    Hello guys,
I noticed today that most of my added fonts are not working. I use a lot of fonts that have a cyrillic subset which were working perfectly fine till 2 days ago. Now when I select a text field and try to change the font face to one of the added fonts, it changes the font face to whichever the default font is and renders the font selection menu to blank. I am really puzzled, the fonts are installed in the Fonts folder in Windows, and they were working perfectly fine till a couple of days ago. I havent installed any Fireworks or Windows updates in the meantime. I am working in Fireworks CS5.
    Cheers

I wasn't sure about my shut-down-and-restart suggestion, but I still think it might be a good idea to clear the font caches.  Here are a couple links on clearing font caches for Windows and Adobe apps:
    http://www.ehow.com/how_7197467_rebuild-font-cache.html

You might want to supplement this with some research of your own, then give it a try.

  • Photoshop CS4 - Help NOT working

If I select Photoshop Help, from the Help pull down menu in Photoshop CS4 I just get the error "HTTP 404 Not Found". Is there a solution to this, I didn't have this problem with CS3?

I definitely say that this is not fixed nor resolved. Two computers running Vista (one is Business 32, the other is Ultimate 64) both have this issue.
    Dreamweaver CS4 - not working
    Bridge CS4 - not working
    Flash CS4 - works correctly
    Contribute CS4 - not working
    Fireworks CS4 - not working
    Photoshop CS4 - not working
After Effects CS4 - works correctly
Premiere Pro CS4 - not working
Encore CS4 - (still need to check)
    InDesign CS4 - not working
    Illustrator CS4 - not working
    Soundbooth CS4 - not working
What I'm most curious about is the JavaScript code in the "white page" with the AH_ION=true pages, especially the comment on line 2 here that seems to indicate that I should have some setting in my preferences that should tell the browser to go to the correct help page or not. If that's true, where do I set that and WHY should I need to?
    if (document.location.href.indexOf("AH_ION=true") > 0) {
// check the user help preference cookie "ah_userpref"
// if its set to "wh_page", redirect to the help system
    if (document.cookie.indexOf("ah_userpref=wh_page") > 0 ){
    redirectUrl = "index.html";
// otherwise ,redirect to the community help and support page
    }else{
    var loc = getLangName();
    redirectUrl = "http://www.adobe.com/go/lr_Dreamweaver_community_en";
    if (loc == "en_US") {
    var id = getSamcapId();
    if (id.length > 0) {
    redirectUrl = redirectUrl + "?trackingid=" + id;
    var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-2987543-3");
    pageTracker._trackPageview();

  • Linking to other pages is not working

I have a slice that I want to link to another page. I selected the slice and in the drop down that displays in the property inspector for the Link field, I select the page I want it to go to. However, when I test the page, it does not work, and in Safari, I get this message:
No file exists at the address “/Users/MediaFred/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fireworks CS5/FWTemp/4193627/page2.htm”.
    What is wrong with this?

Did you try previewing all the pages in browsers?
Click on File>Preview in Browser>Preview all pages in your_browser_name.exe.

  • Dropdown state on buttons not working

I created a navigation bar in Fireworks (which works when I
preview), then import it into Dreamweaver as a .cfm file (by
clicking on Insert in Dreamweaver, Image Objects, Fireworks html).
This navigationbar.cfm file is called from each of my .cfm webpages
as an include file. The problem is that the down state is not
working when I click on the buttons. I need to add some javascript
to the navigationbar.cfm file. Can anyone help?

Did you set the colors properly on that menu and did you assign navigation for them?

  • Z3 Compact scenes not working in manual camera mode

Hi. That's my problem: when I use manual camera, the scn button is grey and not working, so the HDR. They worked when I bought the phone, at Christmas... No mod root etc. Please help me!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz3compact/userguide/Using-still-camera-settings/
It has to be set on Manual mode at 8mp
    HDR
Use the HDR (High Dynamic Range) setting to take a photo against strong back light or in conditions where the contrast is sharp. HDR compensates for the loss of detail and produces a picture that is representative of both dark and bright areas.
This setting is only available in Manual capturing mode.
    ISO
You can reduce image blurring caused by dark conditions or moving subjects by increasing the ISO sensitivity.
    Auto
    Sets the ISO sensitivity automatically.
    50
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 50.
    100
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 100.
    200
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 200.
    400
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 400.
    800
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 800.
    1600
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 1600.
    3200
Sets the ISO sensitivity to 3200.
This setting is only available in Manual capturing mode.
    Metering
This function automatically determines a well-balanced exposure by measuring the amount of light striking the image you want to capture.
    Centre
Measures the centre of the image, and determines the exposure based on the brightness of the subject there.
    Spot
Adjusts the exposure in a very small part of the image that you want to capture.
    Face
Measures the amount of light on the face, and adjusts the exposure so that the face is neither too dark or too bright.
    Multi
Divides the image into multiple regions, and measures each region to determine a well-balanced exposure.
This setting is only available in Manual capturing mode.
    Image stabiliser
When taking a photo, it can be difficult to hold the device steady. The stabiliser helps you by compensating for small movements of the hand.
This setting is only available in Manual capturing mode.
    Preview
You can choose to preview photos or videos just after you shoot them.
    Unlimited
The preview of the photo or video appears after you shoot it.
    5 seconds
The preview of the photo or video apears for 5 seconds after you shoot it.
    3 seconds
The preview of the photo or video appears for 3 seconds after you shoot it.
    Edit
The photo or video opens for editing after you shoot it.
    Off
The photo or video is saved after you shoot it, and no preview appears.
Face registrationYou can register faces with the Camera application so that the viewfinder automatically focuses on these faces when they appear in the viewfinder.
    Flash
Use the flash to take photos when lighting conditions are poor or when there is a backlight. The following options are available when you tap the flash icon in the camera screen:
    Auto
The camera automatically determines if the lighting conditions require the use of a flash.
    Fill flash
Use this setting when the background is brighter than the subject. This removes unwanted dark shadows.
    Red-eye reduction
Reduces the red colour of eyes when taking a photo.
    Off
The flash is turned off. Sometimes photo quality can be better without the flash, even if lighting conditions are poor. Taking a good photo without using the flash requires a steady hand. Use the self-timer to avoid blurred photos.
    Torch
A torch or camera light is turned on when you take photos.
    Scene selection
Use the Scene selection feature to quickly set up the camera for common situations using pre-programmed scenes. The camera determines a number of settings for you to fit the selected scene, ensuring the best possible photo.
    Off
The Scene selection feature is off and you can take photos manually.
    Soft Skin
Take photos of faces using an enhanced beauty effect.
    Soft snap
Use for shooting photos against a soft background.
    Anti motion blur
Use for minimising camera shake when shooting a slightly dark scene.
    Landscape
Use for landscape photos. The camera focuses on distant objects.
    Backlight correction HDR
Use to improve details in high contrast shots. The built-in backlight correction analyses the image and automatically adjusts it to give you a perfectly lit shot.
    Night portrait
Use for portrait photos taken at night or in poorly lit environments. Due to long exposure time, the camera must be held still or placed on a stable surface.
    Night scene
Use when taking photos at night or in poorly lit environments. Due to long exposure time, the camera must be held still or placed on a stable surface.
    Hand-held twilight
Use for taking hand-held low-light photos with reduced noise and blur.
    High sensitivity
Use for taking photos without a flash under low light conditions. Reduces blur.
    Gourmet
Use for shooting food arrangements in bright colour.
    Pet
Use for taking photos of your pet. Reduces blur and red eyes.
    Beach
Use for taking photos of seaside or lakeside scenes.
    Snow
Use in bright environments to avoid overexposed photos.
    Party
Use for indoor photos in poorly lit environments. This scene picks up indoor background lighting or candlelight. Due to long exposure time, the camera must be held still or placed on a stable surface.
    Sports
Use for photos of fast-moving objects. Short exposure time minimises motion blurring.
    Document
Use for photos of text or drawings. Gives the photo increased, sharper contrast.
    Fireworks
Use for taking photos of fireworks in all their splendour.
This setting is only available in Manual capturing mode.

  • CS4 will not work with Snow Leopard

Does anyone know what the problem is? I have been reading on other message boards about CS4 programs crashing. I can't even get mine to open. Does anyone know a fix or something that can help?

Hi, I've got the CS4 Master Collection running at home on a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard.
    Here is my report:
*Adobe Acrobat Pro* - is working perfectly.
*Adobe After Effects* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Bridge* - WILL NOT OPEN - Use Bridge CS3 if you have it.
*Adobe Contribute* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Device Central* - Very buggy. - Use Adobe Device Central CS3 if you have it.
*Adobe Dreamweaver* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Dynamic Link* - NO MAC SUPPORT.
*Adobe Encore* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Fireworks* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Flash Professional* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Illustrator* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe InDesign* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe OnLocation* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Photoshop* - is working well; however it also has NO 64-bit support! with no future 64-bit support planned. Sorry.
*Adobe Premiere Pro* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Soundbooth* - is working quite well with some lags on closing.
*Adobe Version Cue* - is working well.
*All Adobe CS3 Application are functioning well.*
My suggestion is use CS3 until these bugs are fixed in CS4.
    These tests were done on:
    Mac Pro (2008)
    2 x 2.8GHz Intel Xeon Quad-Core Processors.
    6GB 800MHz DDR2 ECC FB-DIMM
    1600MHz FSB
    Data Path: 64-bit
    Address Path: 64-bit
    500GB (Startup Disk)
    1TB (Bay 2)
    512MB GeForce 8800GT
Hope fully you may find this information useful, but definitely check Adobe for updates ASAP
    Kind regards,
    Peter.

  • Buttons on navigation bar not working??

Hello all, I am in a web design class and im currently wokring on my website. When i made my navigation bar in adobe fireworks and saved/exported it then tried to open it in dreamweaver cs6. The way i did this was insert>image objects>fireworks HTML then selected the html version of the nav bar. But for some reason when i try to do live view or open it in browser the buttons don't work, they worked when I opened them from fireworks. Someone help please :/

The old Fireworks code relied on javascript for the menus.  If the javascript file is not in the proper location or is missing then the menus will not work.  In order to tell if this is the page we would need access to a test page online to view your code.  In case this is not possible, I am also including a link to the KB article discussing how this process works from FW to DW to explain all of the steps.
