Fireworks 8 to Dreamweaver 4

I downloaded the free trial of Fireworks 8 to do a pop up
menu. I followed the help menus to export as an html and insert
into Dreamweaver. We have Dreamweaver 4 (not sure if this matters)
and when I try to insert the html I get an error message that says
'The selected file is not the correct format. Please select an HTML
file which was exported from Fireworks.'
Has anyone had this problem and do you know how to fix
it???

Best bet woulod be not to use those menus at all, though,
particularly with
DW4. Some of the javascript behaviors in DW4 are so antique
that they will
not work with today's browsers.

Unfortunately, this is not a web page.  It is a design comp exported from Fireworks.  This code is not good enough for use on real web sites.
You need to de-construct your design comp images in Fireworks.  Optimize and save images only to your DW Local Site Folder.  Then re-assemble everything inside a pre-built CSS Layout in DW.

  • I know this sounds ridiculous, but do you have to have Fireworks and Dreamweaver to create a website?

Many years ago, I had a copy of fireworks and dreamweaver.  It seemed like I only worked with fireworks and created websites, links etc.  Do you have to have both and somehow they work in tandem?

My suggestion would be to forget about Fireworks, because the application's development was stopped in May 2013, and no updates are coming its way either. It is dead software, unfortunately. It is already experiencing compatibility problems on the latest Mac OS, for example, and it is only going to get worse.
To create a simple website, you have two choices: you either learn basic html and css code (as Mylenium suggested), or you use a visual editor.
I have a feeling you veer towards the visual editor solution, so here are some options:
    - http://www.kompozer.net/
    - Web Design Software by Xara: Xara Web Designer
    - Adobe Muse
... or install WordPress through your host (most web hosts offer a one-click install option), choose a nice template from the tens of thousands available online, and start adding content.

  • Best Strategy for Exporting Fireworks into Dreamweaver

I created a navigation bar in Fireworks and now I want to export it into Dreamweaver.
So I Went to Edit->Copy HTML Code (hotkey for this is Ctrl+Alt+C)
Now, what's the "best choice" from the dialog choices: AIR HTML, Dreamweaver HTML, Generic HTML, GoLive HTML, AIR XHTML, Dreamweaver XHTML, Generic XHTML or GoLive XHTML for a cross browser "professional" website?
I only tried the "Dreamweaver HTML Option" and itseemed to work nicely in my rookie opinion.
I think this technique might be at a performance cost to my graphic design or the website speed. So should I use a different strategy for exporting Fireworks to Dreamweaver?  I have the CS5 package so can use any of those programs for support.
    Thanks,

INHO, the best way to export from Fireworks to Dreamweaver is to first define your site in Dreamweaver, and then export the Fireworks document to the assets folder. Place your cursor when you want the navbar to be on your HTML page and choose Insert > Image Objects > Fireworks HTML.

  • Fireworks and dreamweaver issue. How they work seamlessly?

Hi, I am new to these programs.
I am trying to make a website using fireworks and
dreamweaver. I've made my navigation area and headline in fireworks
(simple navigation on left side and header on top). When I export
this to dreamweaver, I am unable to make text etc in the blank area
(main body content area) because as soon as I start typing,
dreamweaver moves my navigation around because I think it is
somehow linked to the main body area?
I think I am missing a crucial step in this process.
How do I use fireworks and dreamweaver seamlessly to allow me
to edit body content of my pages, and not have it change anything
    on my navigation area?

Here's a really good article on how to use Fireworks and
    Dreamweaver
    together.

  • Help With Fireworks and Dreamweaver

    Hi,
I am a graphic designer wanting to expend mt skillset. Mainly because I am currently at a job day to day that requires minimal amount of web stuff. It would benefit me greatly to have the web skills too. Anyway, I am having trouble in fireworks and dreamweaver. Sometimes something gets handed to me and I can open it DW and edit th text, send it back and it is fine. ready to go. More recently, I have been asked to change some marginal issues, plus create some things from scratch. I naturally went to Fireworks to do my layouts. I need to understand the best way to create something in FW and export it so that the code is as complete as possible fro DW. I know it is not that simple, but the web work that I am doing fro right now is VERY simple stuff. i just dont know the basics to get it done. Please help.
    Thanks

Fireworks is not a coding environment. Use Fireworks to design your layout and export your graphics. Use Dreamweaver to write the code to implement the design. The code that Fireworks can export is for creating prototypes with; it isn't intended for live sites.
If you want to expand your skill sets in the Web area, then that means learning HTML and CSS. You cannot get by on the exported code of a graphics program. Here are a couple of beginner tutorials:
    http://articles.sitepoint.com/article/html-css-beginners-guide (Good)
http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/design-and-code-your-first-website-i n-easy-to-understand-steps/ (Excellent; the author uses Photoshop in this tutorial, but it can be done with Fireworks just as well.)

  • Opening Fireworks from Dreamweaver CS5

I am trying to open Fireworks CS5 from within Dreamweaver CS5.
When I do I get an error message that says that "Fireworks is unable to be launched or an error has occured"
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I originally tried to open Fireworks (either directly or from Dreamweaver) I got the following message:
"Your user privileges do not allow Fireworks to update your registry. Launch and Edit with Dreamweaver will not work properly unitl Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges."
I got the following advice - Try right-clicking on the Fireworks.exe icon, then select 'Properties', select 'Compatibility' and then under the section 'Privilege Level', put a tick in the box 'Run this program as administrator'.
I have done what was suggested but now every time I open Fireworks I get the same Windows User Account Control message as follows:
"Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer" - Program name Fireworks. When I say yes the program opens OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way everything works OK on my laptop running a Windows XP Pro 32 bit system.

Further to previous posting the error message I get when I try to launch Fireworks from Dreamweaver is:
    "C:\Program Files\(x86)\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS5\Fireworks.exe
Please be sure that this aplication exists and that there is enough memory to run it."
Photoshop launches OK from Dreamweaver. Fireworks is the default image application.

  • Fireworks in dreamweaver trial version?

For my website (www.habibi-se.com) photos are very important
and I want a program that makes my life easy: It should make
thumbnails automatically and offer easy-to-introduce and -arrange
photo and thumbnail options. I understood that Fireworks does that.
Does Fireworks come with the trial version of Dreamweaver so that I
can try out if it suits me?
Until now I used Netobjects Fusion but I can't get Fusion 10
to work on my Vista Ultimate PC, so I am looking for something
else. As I love Photoshop, Dreamweaver seems an obvious candidate,
even though I'll probably not use half of its possibilities. Or
would Microsoft Expression Web be a better choice for my personal
needs? Thank you for your answers.

    > But I think you meant to say that I have
    > probably not enough time or it is not worth the trouble
    to learn difficult
    > programs for my only humble homepage?
What I intended to convey is that those who come into DW
    expecting it to
take them by the hand will quickly get mired down and lose
    interest. There
are many 'corpses' littering the climb up the learning curve.
    The more
preparation you do (by gaining some base knowledge of HTML
    and CSS) the less
likely you will be to fall into one of the many traps that
    both DW and HTML
authoring will allow you to fall into. In some cases, those
    traps are so
insidious that there is no way out without throwing away a
    considerable (yet
unfruitful) effort on your part. Examples of these traps
    might be the use of
frames, or of DW's Layout Mode, or of DW's pop-up menus, or
    of Flash menus,
    or....
You gave me no indication of your experience level or
    competence with the
basic knowledge elements of HTML authoring, so I tried not to
    make
assumptions. I'm guessing that coming into DW from NOF, you
    are a WYSIWYG
user, and wanted to raise a flag for you that although DW is
    marketing as a
'visual authoring' environment, it's going to be a tough road
    if you use it
    exclusively in that mode.

  • Gah - Fireworks into Dreamweaver help

Ive done it before. What i have is a map of queensland
(australia), and on particular sections there are drop down flashy
menus that show the names of cities. I have linked all the cities
and such to websites, now its a matter of uploading it to
dreamweaver. Everytime i export to dreamweaver, and then Import
Fireworks HTML on dreamweaver, the splices appear perfectly fine,
but the map of queensland doesnt appear at all. instead, i get
    stupid little 'broken image' symbols.
I dont know what is so different to this from last week. last
week i did the same thing, except with an australia map, and it
    worked perfectly fine.
    What am i doing wrong?!

  • .png files will not open Fireworks from Dreamweaver.

    Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help - I am a new to this forum, so
    please be gentle!
I am running the new Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard on a
new 17" MacBook Pro with 2Gb memory.
I have hit an odd snag when I am in Dreamweaver working on my
    and other web-sites.
Fireworks will not open when I click on .png files which were
    created in Fireworks ..
    I get the following message:
    "Unable to launch
    Macintosh HD:Applications:Macromedia Fireworks
    MX 2004:Fireworks MX 2004.
Please be sure that this application exists and that
there is enough memory to run it".
I can open .gif files created in Fireworks - with no problems
    at all.
There is plenty of memory - even with Fireworks open I get
    the same warning ..!!
I have never had this problem before when using Studio MX
2004 on my previous 15" MacBook. I have transferrred all my sites
to the new MacBook Pro - the paths are exactly the same within each
site - nothing has changed. My work flow is the same. All the sites
function normally but for this annoying problem - has anyone else
experienced it? The Adobe help center seemed rather baffled - or
the techie I spoke to did ..!!
    Have I missed something here?
Or am I in the wrong forum .. I hope not!
    Thanks in advance,

fix it. maybe you can since you have the new version, though. go
into your preferences, select file types/editors, and make sure
it's pointed to the right place.
i did that on mine but it still won't work for me. but i get
around it by just right clicking and choosing "open with" and the
selecting Fireworks. it's kind of a pain in the butt, so i'm
interested to see if anyone else has any ideas.
    Hi n h c,
    Thanks for your prompt reply!
I did as you suggested and went into preferences and checked
file types/editors. Low and behold .png files were selected to open
with Fireworks MX 2004 by default - Fireworks MX 2004 is NOT on my
MacBook ... no wonder the .png files would not open! Meanwhile .gif
files were selected to open with Adobe Fireworks CS3 (Primary)
I played around with the + and - buttons, selected the
correct application and everything now seems to be OK.
How interesting the techie at Adobe didn't think to tell me
of this simple fix ...mmnn! On the other hand, how stupid of me not
to check preferences! Thanks again n h c - you are a gem!

  • Fireworks to Dreamweaver CS3

When creating a sliced image in Fireworks with simple
rollover behavior AND linking that slice to another page within the
same [Dreamweaver] directory, opening in a different frame....the
link does not work. Fireworks html and images exported to DW, once
in DW setup a 2 frame page set, top frame holds exported Firworks
html, etc,. Rollovers work great, however once clicked the
associated page does not display in the lower frame. In DW all
properties are ported over from FW fine and are as follows: Link
points to the correct html page as indicated in FW before the
export, target is mainFrame, as indicated in FW. Upon display the
rollover images work fine howeverr the link does not work, nothing
is displayed in the frame, however in the system tray, you can
clearly see the correct path to the page--it just will not display.
If I do this all manually in DW works fine, but is more efficient
from FW...if only it worked. Any suggestions?

I didn't know anyone was still using frame sets! My
    suggestion would be
that you use a different solution. Here's an article that
    explains why
    frames are bad.

  • Slide menu with fireworks on dreamweaver

    hi,
i've done a slide menu with fireworks. HOW exactly do you put that on the webpage now (i use dw 8).
    thanks a lot

    Hi
By slide menu you mean something like a menu bar? I don't really get it. Post an image if you want.
I recommend to create your menu inside dreamweaver using html and css and not in fireworks, because your site is going to be really heavy and not compatible with the web standards.
But, to answear to your question: Since you've got a complete menu with slices, or symbols such as buttons, export it as html and images (be sure to export the slices too).
Inside dreamweaver use the Insert > Image objects > Fireworks HTML. Browse to your exported file and press ok.

  • Fireworks to Dreamweaver not centering

I have made a website in fireworks and exported the html to dreamweaver. When I opened dreamweaver to center the webpage, it would not allow me to do so. I think it is because I have drop down menus. Anyone have any advice?
    Thanks,
    Chris Van Pelt

On Dreamweaver, open the exported FW file (not recommended by the way:-))
Select the <body> tag (bottom of window)
    Open CSS panel
click + to add a style
    select "Tag redfine html element"
    Click on Block
    Set Txt Align to "center"
    Select your content area
    CSS panel add new style
    select the compund option
select block and remove the center alignment

  • Popup Menus from Fireworks to Dreamweaver

I have created popup menus in fireworks and imported the html
into Dreamweaver. But when I do the table cell resizes to the
menu's expanded size. How can I get it to only take space of the
unexpanded button. Where when expanded the dropdown flows OVER the
    underlying page.

  • Fireworks with Dreamweaver 8

    I download the Fireworks CS3 and I have Dreamweaver 8. I try
to do a photo album on Dreamweaver and the programm told me I need
Fireworks 4 or better. I download the programm and try again after
I install it and it didn't work again. Dreamweaver don't see the
fireworks I just install. The programm fireworks is install on the
desk in the moment in a file. What I have to do to connect
Dreamweaver to Fireworks? Thank you every one.

I'm not sure why Dreamweaver is giving you that message of
    needing Firework 4.
Open Dreamweaver and select an image on a page. Do you see
the Fireworks logo in the properties section? If you do, click on
it and see if it opens Fireworks CS3. If it does, Dreamweaver sees
Fireworks. If it doesn't, you may want to check file types/editors
in the preferences section of Dreamweaver.
Is this the photo album that's preinstalled with Dreamweaver
8, or is a third-party extension? If it's an extension, check the
vendors site for compatibility. If the photo album is built-in,
maybe a simple uninstall and reinstall of both applications would
solve the problem. But first, let's determine the Dreamweaver to
    Fireworks communication problem.
