Fireworks becomes unresponsive to mouse/tablet. So angry with Adobe right now!!!!

This is driving me nuts. Fireworks is slowly becoming a complete PITA to use. Becomes unresponsive to clicks, can't select anything, have to constantly click off the art board.... the list goes on. Move mouse over an object it gets highlighted, click to select? Nothing...... Can no longer copy/paste between AI and FW....
The thing is what the hell else are we supposed to use?!?! By shedding FW Adobe has completely left lots of us web designers high and dry. PS is an awful tool for Website design as is AI, what is so difficult about creating an app that works??
We all use AI and PS (most of us anyway) FW just had a way with dealing with Master page elements, Symbols, Pages and States that made designing a site relatively straight forward until they ditched it. Why? Nobody has a clue judging by the posts on here.
All they really would have to do is add the above mentioned features to AI and I'd be happy......
If anyone has worked out what has FW doing this lately i'd be delighted for the intel.
Peace...

When Adobe "assimilated" Macromedia, FW's development and future was already in a dire state - Macromedia, as far as I know, was actually planning to ditch Fireworks. Adobe saved it from its early demise, after deciding to ditch their alternative ImageReadym and, luckily for us, continued to develop Fireworks. Image Ready was removed from their product catalog.
The way I see it (after having taught web dev and design classes for 15 years) Fireworks never reached a momentum outside a relatively small knowledgeable group of users. I kept promoting it instead of Photoshop and Illustrator, and after years and years I stopped doing exactly that: almost no-one in my groups had even heard of Fireworks prior to my classes. And only one or two individuals would be convinced to even try to use it for a while.
Just about ALL the web dev/design/front- end students I have known (thousands) either use Photoshop or Illustrator for mockups, wireframes, etc. Fireworks' existence was never even realized, let alone on their radar.
So, despite my best efforts I was able to sway perhaps a handful students to consider Fireworks in their workflow. Once they really got to grips with it, they did realize the advantages over Photoshop. In spite of that, most would return to Photoshop.
...and that is basically mirroring what happened to Fireworks in the real world. A relatively small number of enlightened users, but the lure of Photoshop and Illustrator, and the giant community and support base surrounding those two (especially Photoshop), effectively pulled 99.9% of users away from Fireworks,
It did not help Fireworks' cause that it filled a very niche market, because, let's face it, Photoshop is a far more powerful general art tool and image editor than Fireworks would ever be. Unless your work only entails web graphics, Photoshop is by far a more attractive general power house. And this holds true for Illustrator as well for vector work. The interoperability between the two with smart objects and the non-destructive workflow also helps.
In the end FW became an little-known appendix hanging on a thread by the support of a small group of users. Adobe made a very simple business decision: invest more resources and marketing, or not? Stopping development and support was the correct business decision.
I hate to say it (because I did love FW), but Fireworks is dead in the water since Adobe dropped the bomb in May 2013 that they stopped FW's development. You can stay aboard for a while longer, but, as you have experienced with all those issues starting to pop up, the hull is rotting, and it will not be long before it becomes a sinking ship. I think it already is sinking. No new updates or any support is given, and support sites for FW are slowly, but steadfastly pulling the plug.
As for myself, I moved away from Adobe software starting two years ago, because I read the signs on the wall. I never expected Fireworks to stick around for as long as it did anyway based on my experiences in both the industry and teaching. I now use alternatives that in some aspects are much of an improvement, and in some ways are inferior to Fireworks. You cut your wins and losses, I guess.
Honestly, Fireworks was already lagging behind the curve of modern web development anyway. Better to lay it to rest, in my opinion.

  • Mouse will only click with the right button...

recently my macbook has decided that i dont need a right mouse button, and the touchpad is not responsive when clicking either. i have some suspicion that the trackpad button might be stuck. im also curious as to whether the usb's might be messed up. has anyone ever had this issue? how should i go about fixing it?

nope, but i noticed since the lion update that the problem only persists if i touch the trackpad before i finish signing into my account...

  • Touch becomes unresponsive on pop-ups

I just reset my ipad 2 and trying to set it up as a new ipad, unfortunately when i got into the part for me to agree on the terms and the pop up appears, i cannot press on the agree button (unresponsive). It is just weird because i was able to get through any other setup questions and that was the only time touch becomes unresponsive. It is only happening with pop-ups but appears to be fine on the normal ones. PLEASE HELP!!

Possibly.  That's what I'm hoping anyway. The other option is a hardware problem.  But I don't remember it happening that long ago.  The frequency is picking up too and it isn't just during calls.  I haven't been able to discern a pattern in what I'm doing and when the keyboard freezes. I've been too busy to call but I've got today off.  I'm calling later this morning.

  • Bluetooth Mouse... buttons become unresponsive

Okay, when I got my Mac Pro a month or so ago I experienced the same issue that everyone else did with their bluetooth mighty mouse. But great news!.. Apple fixed it with an update not long ago!
But, I barely had time to be excited about having a bluetooth mighty mouse that worked as it should when Apple releases yet another bluetooth update in the last couple days that breaks it again! Arrrrgh! Now, every so often the buttons become unresponsive and I have to shut it off and back on again to get it to work. Apple... please don't tease us like this and re-fix what you had currently done right.
BTW, anyone else having this problem?

Hasn't done it even once ever since then. My Mac updated... restarted... bluetooth mighty mouse nightmare... and apparently 2nd shutdown and startup was the charm! I physically shut down my Mac so little and that's why it persisted I guess. Next time I have an issue I know to try that before I yell "fire" on the boards.

  • MPro, 10.7.5 mouse/keyboard intermittently become unresponsive

I am running OS 10.7.5 on a 2009 Mac Pro and recently the mouse started to intermittently become unresponsive. I usually can fix this by conecting the mouse to a different usb port but last time it happened this didn't work and I also lost the keyboard. I switched both mouse and keyboard and problem persisted, even when moving to different usb ports.  After several hard reboots the mouse and keyboard came back and has been working since. I know the second mouse and keyboard are good and I am able to ptint from all the usb ports on the Mac Pro so I son't think it's a hardware problem. Could this be some kind of driver conflict? There are two canon usb printer drivers installed and two network printers )Lexmark and Brother). I have been running software update regularly. No other problems and I do regular disk maintenance (Diskwarrior). There are two SSDs and two hard drives installed, 32 GB ram. No problems with any hardware that I know of. Could a memory error? Thanks in advance for any ideas as to cause or insights into tracking it down appreciated.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Sometimes my keyboard becomes unresponsive when using Photoshop CS6, & I have to restart

Since I upgraded to Photoshop CS6, I've found that every once in a while the keyboard becomes unresponsive.  I can't tell whether anything specific that I'm doing triggers it, but I'll be editing an image and will press a shortcut key and find it doesn't work. It doesn't happen when I first open up an image, but usually after I've been working for a while. As far as I can tell (it's pretty random) it seems to happen when I'm using a tool to apply an effect to an image, like this last time it happened when I'd been using the Spot Healing Brush repeatedly on a photograph. (Of course that could be correlation without causality, since I'm a big fan of the Spot Healing Brush and tend to use it quite a bit whenever I'm editing photos). Note that the modifier keys still function, but all of the letter and number keys are unresponsive.
Sometimes - and lately it seems like it happens always, there's a sound associated with the shut off.  It's possible that the times I didn't hear the sound I had my speakers off.  It's a brief clicking noise - and I don't think it's any of the built-in alert sounds on my Mac, since I just listened to all of them and I recall this sound being different - but the sound is definitely coming from my speakers and is not a mechanical sound from the machine.  I have no idea what might be causing this. I saw someone complaining of this a couple of years ago, who thought it might have to do with a Wacom tablet. I own one, but don't always use it, and this happens even when I'm not using it.  The only way I've found to get my keyboard responding again is to shut down Photoshop and restart.
I'm on a Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, with 8GB Ram; I'm on OS X 10.7.4 (not quite ready to upgrade to Mountain Lion).

Okay - it looks like I've solved my own problem after a few hours searching for related problems on the web.  It's not a problem with Photoshop but with Mac OS X.  The default "Universal Access" mouse and trackpad preferences were set to "Press the Option Key five times to turn Mouse Keys On or Off." So when I use a tool that I'm modifying with the option key, and I use it repeatedly five times in a row, I hear the clicking sound that means turn on "Mouse Keys" (and turn off the regular keys). Turn off that option, and the problem is solved!

  • Tiger becoming unresponsive

I'm running Tiger 10.4.2 and every now and then the system will become unresponsive. The unresponsiveness grows exponentially with respect to the time it started. The clock on the menubar updates in minutes instead of seconds. You can do things but the % CPU usage for system processes is at 102%. So clicking on a dock icon may take a minute or more. The funny thing is you can choose a cocoa application's window and move it around the screen just as fast as possible (ie: terminal with opacity) and it performs as fast as one would expect. The CPU cooling fan never ramps up. So it seems that part of the system is working just fine. Most of the time you have to hold down the power button and reset the machine. Two or Three time I was able to recover from this condition. Once by quitting a running java application.
At first I suspected the 5.0 JVM, but I've seen it happen without running (at least to my knowledge) the JVM at all. Lately, I've been suspicious of Virtual PC 7.0.2 running Windows XP but haven't been able to confirm it.
I've talked to Apple and Microsoft, but no help there.
Has anybody seen this at all, and been able to isolate the problem?

I installed Virtual PC 7 "stand alone" Sunday, upgraded to 7.02 and imported Win98 and Win2K PC's from Connectix Virtual PC 5.x (hadn't used for quite some time). I tried upgrading IE on the Win2k VM and shortly thereafter all but the mouse became unresponsive. After two Hard resets my 60G boot drive wouldn't boot, or even show up in Disk Utility when booting off another drive(also Tiger 10.4.2). I got it mounted in the external firewire box, but Disk Utility couldn't repair it, and even the other Boot of Tiger became unresponsive (though not as completely). My first thought was that Virtual PC killed my system: it's the first upgrade I've bought since Microsoft took it over from Connectix, and naturally I was skeptical. but after having so much trouble fixing the drive I thought maybe it was just an incredible coincidence - having had no major drive trouble for years. After reformatting the drive, however, it seems to behave just fine (too soon to tell for sure), which led me back to searching for Virtual PC 7 and Tiger links in this discussion.
By the way, I installed VPC 7 (not the 7.02 upgrad) on a different G4 running 10.3.9 Tuesday, installed win2k, upgraded IE to 6.? and it has been working flawlessly - so far.

  • Xserve 10.5.8 Becoming Unresponsive

I've been running an Xserve relatively smoothly for a few years now. A few months ago, the Xserve became unresponsive and after a reboot it seemed that Kerberos had stopped. Since this moment the Xserve will intermittently become unresponsive in which case it needs to be restarted. Typically, this will happen once or twice a day.
By "unresponsive" I mean that any attempt to connect via ssh or sftp fails, cron jobs fail to run, and attempting to launch any application from the server itself results in the application crashing immediately.
While the Xserve is unresponsive, DHCP, Apache, and all port forwarding seem to work fine - most of the time.
Nothing stands out to me in the system log, and more than anything I wanted to see if anyone has experienced similar behavior and a potential fix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No its not, sorry I forgot to add that. Nothing is locked I have monitor keyboard and mouse hooked up all of which work fine when booting from the old system drive, just the cloned hdd wont boot, however system prefs says its bootable and will allow me to select it as the startup disk. 250GB SATA2 HDD GUID partition map 1 partition total cloned through disk utility's Restore function.

  • Itunes becomes unresponsive when trying to start a rented movie

    as the title says.
I really don't want to waste 4 dollars on a movie that won't play, the 24 hour countdown has started 10 minuntes ago from this post.
I have Itunes for my windows 7 computer i have 8 gigs of ram and plenty of space on my hard drive and an i7 processor, there should be absoulutly no problem playing a movie....but there is.
Help from someone knowlegable would be appreciated and not from some nobody.
    thanks in advance,
(angry customer who always has problems with technology) aka me

I just installed it on a Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, Dell Vostro machine (less than a year old), Intel Core i5 ivy bridge processor and 4 Gigabytes of RAM. The only other program running is Excel 2013 64bit.
I just installed iTunes and has become unresponsive twice. I cannot move it, change it nor close it. The first time it also made all Windows 8 apps and desktop apps unusable. This is in no way a good sign of stability from Apple's part. Please, make it as stable (or close) as it is on Macs.

  • Downloading podcasts in the background causes iTunes to become unresponsive

This problem with iTunes downloading podcasts in the background is causing me fits in my well-behaved, rock-solid iMac environment.
Inevitably, while iTunes is automatically downloading one of my subscribed podcasts, iTunes will become unresponsive and freeze. This requires me to Force Quit iTunes, causing file system errors that need to be repaired with Disk Utility. The file system errors usually consist of these:
    "Missing thread record"
    "Incorrect number of thread records"
    "Invalid volume file count"
    "Missing directory record ID"
Luckily, Disk Utility can recover the damage without me losing any data. But it chaffs me to no end that I have to shut down my iMac, reboot with my SL DVD, dig up my wireless Mighty Mouse (since the SL DVD doesn't load drivers for my Magic Trackpad), repair my boot disk, reboot, then endure several minutes of "Checking the iTunes library" when I start up iTunes again. Not including the significant time it takes for me to re-establish my working environment.
The reason why I know it's a podcast that's causing the problem is that as soon as iTunes starts up, the podcast resumes downloading. I've never had iTunes freeze on me while downloading a podcast while I had iTunes in focus. This problem only occurs when iTunes is downloading a podcast in the background. I've checked the log, and the only messages I'm getting is from Automator saying that some actions are not compatible with my current version of iTunes.
This problem occurs with iTunes 10.0.1, but I've had it happen with iTunes 9.x . My iTunes library is on a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+, accessed by my iMac via 802.11n on my Airport Extreme.
Is anyone else experiencing freezes or beachballs when downloading podcasts? I'm about ready to shut off auto-download and just do it manually (in fact, I'm surprised that I haven't done this already ).

iTunes froze again while an podcast was being downloaded (in the Dock, the iTunes icon says "Force Quit"). I waited 10 minutes for iTunes to become responsive again, but it didn't. I tried Cmd-tab to the iTunes window, but it wouldn't come up. I was ready to Force Quit and repair my HD again, when I decided to try one more thing.
I used Expose to show all the open windows, then picked the frozen iTunes window. Doing this showed the window (why Cmd-tab wouldn't, I don't know), where it listed the partially downloaded podcast in the activity bar. I then went to get my SL DVD. When I got back, iTunes was unfrozen and the podcast download had completed!
I have no idea why the podcast wouldn't download while iTunes was hidden, and why Cmd-tab wouldn't restore the iTunes session to activity. But now I know that Expose can wake iTunes from the dead, preventing me from killing iTunes with the inevitable HD corruption.

  • Nokia 6822a has become unresponsive

    Hi,
I have a Nokia 6822a that I have been using for about 6 years. Lately, it has become unresponsive and seems to not respond to inputs. For example if it freezes while in a text field the cursor still flashes as if it is ready to receive text input. When it freezes while scrolling through the menu, the help text for the menuitem still appears after a few seconds as if I was hovering over the item.
The only way I can escape this problem is by resetting the phone but the problem occurs again shortly after a reboot.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Is there perhaps a software upgrade available?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rhett

I had to have my MBP 2006 model trackpad exchanged three times during its warranty period. I realize the newer trackpads are different, but it sounds like there are similar issues.
It turned out to be a capacitor problem beneat the trackpad. If it is still under AppleCare warranty you need to take it in and, with luck, they might be able to change it out the same day.
If it is out of warranty, then there are 3rd party solutions that sell replacement trackpads and keyboards and things at reasonable prices with easy to follow instructions.
The other alternative is getting a magic mouse (for example) and using that instead. I sometimes do that with my MacBook Pro since I am used to it now with my iMac, and it's wireless.

  • FINDER becomes UNRESPONSIVE during AppleScript runs in 10.6.5

Has anyone experiences the Finder becoming unresponsive when running a script in Snow Leopard? We have scripts that push PDFs to an Apple Server (10.4) via SMB or AFP and while the script does run fine- during the last minute of it running, the Finder and the AppleScript become unresponsive for 30-60 sec or so then snap back and finish their job.
This was not happening in Leopard (so they say) to the same Tiger Server
Any Ideas what we may be experiencing? A suggested Fix? is 10.6.7 going to resolve this issue with Slow SMB connections?

I have the exact same problem on two of my imacs, both have the 10.6.5 update and have been having networking problems since November of last year. I have pinged both IP addresses successfully so they are active.I have also tweaked the proxy settings for our network, trying all combinations, to no avail.
I have at least succeeded in getting one of the macs to connect to email and Safari but the connection in Safari times out after about 10 minutes and then hangs and you have to force quit. Thereafter only a reboot will restore Safari.
The second imac is in a worse state, in that it does not connect up at all even though the network is active and IP has been successfully pinged.

  • After upgrading to Aperture 3.4.1 (and really since 3.4), aperture becomes unresponsive almost immediately after I open it.  It tears through over 1GB of memory within a minute, and I am forced to either force quit or open the terminal and "killall".

How do I fix this issue?  I haven't been able to use Aperture or load new photos into Aperture for weeks.  Since upgrading to Aperture 3, from Aperture 2; I've noticed that Aperture 3 is a major memory hog.  I had to upgrade my unibody macbook to keep up with Aperture, otherwise my whole system become unresponsive when trying to simply look at my photos.  I have about 15,000 pictures in my library, but the program is designed to organize large libraries.  Why has it been so buggy the past year?  Should I just jump ship and go to Lightroom?
    Thanks

    Matt,
it is normal, that after a crash a library repair is required. Aperture is a database, and if a crash happens, transactions may not be completed, so the library may be left in an inconsitent state. Usually the built-in repair methods can take care of this. But I assume, you have a backup of your Aperture library. If not, now would be the time to create one, just in case.
I doubt, Aperture is causing this crashes - it may be a coincidence; kernel panics quite often are due to an overfull hard disk, incompatible frameworks or kernel extensions, or to failing hardware. Run a hardware check, check the available disk space and file system with disk utility, and try to remember, if you installed anything else lately, that might have added incompatible kernel extensions. Turn off any helper apps, start up items.
Your kernel panic occurs when accessing the graphics card. Sometimes this can be resolved by booting into safe mode, this will disable advanced features and reset the card. Note: Aperture will not run in safe boot mode, see
