Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver 8
I own Dreamweaver 8 but not Fireworks 8, and I don't
particularly want to upgrade Dreamweaver to build decent websites
using Fireworks CS3. So has anyone imported Fireworks PNGs,
particularly of the sliced variety, into Dreamweaver 8? Any
problems?

YOu need to export the files from Fireworks to your
Dreamweaver site,
then if you want to use the Fireworks HTML, use the
Dreamweaver Insert >
Image Objects > Fireworks HTml feature.

Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver CS3 (Menu problems)
I am trying to develop buttons in fireworks, import them into Dreamweaver, but for some reason it it cause my menu at the top of the page to expand outward. Take a look here. http://www.gcfa.org/episcopal-revision.html Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
I figured it out. It was really stupid and to tell you the truth I am not sure what happened. But I fixed it by taken out all of the menu and redoing it.Weird huh! Thanks anyway.

Is Adobe CS5 compatible with CS3 and Dreamweaver 8 files
All,
We have eight users that are using CS3 (Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat 8) plus Dreamweaver Studio 8 on Windows XP Pro 32-bit. Two of these users are moving to Windows 7 64-bit. We don't have it in the budget to upgrade all 8 users. Will Adobe CS5 Premium files (particularly InDesign and Dreamweaver) work with CS3 and Dreamweaver 8 files?
ThanksInDesign absolutely NOT! InDesign can only save back one version.
But...CS3 runs just fine on Win7 64 bit.
I'm not sure about what issues you'll have with Dreamweaver.
Please post followups in the InDesign and Dreamweaver forums.

Using Windows XP and working with Fireworks CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6.
I'm a student and only have Windows XP. I'm working with Fireworks CS6 and Dreamweaver CS6. Can I just get the two of them or do I need to subscribe to the Creative Cloud? Also, can I get Dreamweaver CS6 on the Cloud? I know I can't use Dreamweaver CC with XP.
Moving this discussion to the Creative Cloud Download & Install forum.
Afec1707 I am sorry but you must have Windows 7 or later for your operating system. You can find the system requirements to utilize Creative Cloud applications at System requirements | Creative Cloud. -
I just upgraded to Win7 and everything in Fireworks CS3 seems to be working except the brush tool. When trying to paint the cursor is irratic, moves slowing across the picture and I can't control the speed of the brush tool. Is anybody else having this problem and if so do you have a work around?
This was a problem in Vista and the workaround there is to turn off the Aero theme for Fireworks. (CS3 Bitmap tools and Aero are not happy together.)
Not sure if Win7 has the same settings, but it should. Try this: go to the Fireworks folder, right-click on Fireworks.exe, and select Properties. If there's a Compatibility tab, first try setting it to "Disable desktop composition." (Mine's also set to run in XP compatibility mode, but maybe I did that first, it wasn't the ticket, and I added the "Disable desktop composition" checkbox.)
When you start or close Fireworks, your screen might flicker to black as Aero is turned off and on, but otherwise, everything should work okay. -
Fireworks cs6 and dreamweaver cc
After long time I'm gonna go back to fireworks. Please, let me know what significant tools should not be used if I am going to use also Dreamweaver CC 2014-regular html pages. I see that the Spry menus are not available anymore in dreamweaver for example. Now there are other tools for UI, right? The link buttons in Fireworks as well as the spry menu bars, when exported to html in DW (a couple of years ago) generated me a lot of confusing html files, codings and... I think it was a problem, right? Orientations, please.
In my opinion you should avoid using ANY tool in Fireworks that generates html and/or css. Use Fireworks to prepare you images and designs, and use it for prototyping.
Firework's code never was great to begin with (very old-fashioned), and since Adobe quit development two years ago it's only become worse. Therefore, do not use any of the generated code from Fireworks for real production.
Fireworks still generates buttons with text as images - which is just a bad idea. This should be solved with html and css, with perhaps background images for specific visual properties. The text should remain text.
For button, menus, and other interactive features learn CSS and jQuery, jQuery mobile, and simple javascript. Or re-use pre-built jQuery scripts which you can find online - many are freely available.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but that is the current situation. -
I am using Dreamweaver 8 or CS2 and thought it might be
helpful for me to use Fireworks along with it. Can the new
Fireworks 9 work with Dreamweaver 8 (cs2)
Should I look for Fireworks 8?
curiousI'm still investigating things, too. I already have DW8 and
FW8, and I'm finding that FW8 has some limitations with some larger
.psd files. FW8 has this "not enough memory" issue that has me
kinda wizzed. I'm thinking of spending the agonizing dough to get
PhotoShop (which seems to also have an excellent image optimizing
system for web images), but then again I'm not sure how well it
coordinates with DW8 (if that's critical for you)
I like FW, but for me the question of whether to go with FW
or Photoshop is still open -
I am experiencing some annoying problems that might be
feature requests. I do not have a large community around me using
Fireworks and those few who do, does not use it for complex
operations (prototyping of large websites and applications). I
therefore hope someone here might confirm that some of the "bugs"
might be feature requests
1. Common Library items - Label: Does not support unicode and
I experience problems using Norwegian national characters
2. Similar to above: Cut&paste unicode characters, I get
the usual non standardised crap of e.g. "≈rsm¯te"
3. Pages - should be able to select multiple pages to give
them the same settings, Guide (Grid), Optimize settings etc
4. Better support for drawing a straight line, Shift will
only take you so far. I am thinking of e.g. changing the gradient
line, it is a precision job to just change the line from being
horizontal to vertical and vs.
5. On OS X Leopard, using Rooms, for all Adobe applications
you loose your toolbars when switching, similar to pressing Tab
Anyone with similar challenges?
Btw: Does anyone know where I submit feature wishes to Adobe,
other than here?I bet there are others with these problems, so I'll quote my
action plan as a reference.

I've submitted a bug report on this, as it is clearly a bug
and not a feature wish.

This is an strange problem and I found out that cut&paste
from a lot of applications work with unicode, it is Safari that is
the perpetrator. Even though it is such a narrow issue, I have
reported it to Apple.

I've sent this as a feature wish to Adobe.

I have solved this issue by using Grant Hinkson's excellent
Gradient panel. Se his
article.
Although this should be default Fireworks, he has done such a good
job and deserves all the credit.

An odd problem I am sure Adobe is aware of, but I submitted
it as a minor bug anyway.

Fireworks edit in Dreamweaver pouting and refusing to update.
Again, I'm new to Fireworks...let me know if I'm totally off
base here. Before I start, I'm using Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver
CS3 as part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium. I use an iMac
running OS 10.5.2, Leopard.
I've just finished designing a new Fireworks navigation bar
for my company's website. The HTML exports and integrates into the
existing pages just fine (so far.) I'm in the process of testing
each page with the new Fireworks HTML to see if anything goes nuts
before I take it live.
Here's where I might be delusional. I insert the HTML into a
page, then use the "edit in Fireworks" option in DW to change the
default state of one button using the "show in 'down' state on
load" option (depending on which page is currently up.) I've
noticed that although I can use the "edit in Fireworks" option to
do other things (minor spacing issues for example) with marginal
success...FW is not reflecting the "down state" changes in DW at
all. I swear I've done this before and it's worked, though!
When I'm in the midst of making these changes and "preview"
in FW, everything works as it should. However, as soon as I hit
"done", no updates are reflected in the DW page...nor are they
saved in the original FW HTML when I go back and check.
If I'm completely wrong, what would be the best way to
reflect a "down state on load" button for each page of the website?
Do I need to make the changes, re-save the files, and re-export
them?
If it helps, the test index page is:
http://www.thdelectronics.com/index_testbar.html
It shows "home" in the down state. But when I load the HTML
on the products pages and try to change the down state button to
"products"...it doesn't work.
Thanks,
~G~Hello
I just worked through this exact same issue today so I'm glad
to help. The easy answer is that when you are exporting the html to
Dreamweaver you need to check 'Multiple Nav Bar HTML Pages' in the
'Document Specific' tab (under the options button in my Fireworks
MX).
As far as I can tell, you end up with a nav bar for each of
your links and then have to import those each to your pages which
doesn't help when using templates. I'm hoping I can find a
different answer to that one.

Fireworks CS3 - Internal error when save as JPEG and batch mode
Dears,
I am being in trouble for all along these 7 days due to this
error. I hope that someone may help me.
After upgrading to CS3 from Fireworks 8, I am having this
"internal error message" both when the preview for a JPEG export
format is chosen (it works OK when the export format is either GIF
or PNG) and when I work with batch operation.
Everything is OK if I run Fireworks either as "root" user or
as "adminplus" user ("adminplus" is the username of an extra user
with administration privileges I created for testing).
My operating system is MacOsX 10.5.4 and my computer is a
MacBook2,1 (MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GHz with 2GB RAM and a
brand new 186,31 GB Hitachi Journaled HFS+ HD with 100GB free).
I tried in many way to get the valuable differences in the
Library files and privileges (looking to many forums, it seems this
may be the cause, also confirmed by the fact that other users works
fine) but I didn't get any special differences.
I tried to trash the preferences but still the error is
present.
I tried with the master temporary file in MacOsX with
terminal command "stat -x $TMPDIR" checked against command "id".
User and privileges were OK but still the "internal error" was
there.
I tried with a simple reinstall for Fireworks CS3 and with a
full reinstall of the full CS3 web standard suite and, moreover,
uninstalling and reinstalling everything.
I also tried with Fireworks 8 which was not removed by the
upgrade and it has the same problems.
May I receive a competent suggestion about how to diagnosis
and solve the problem?
Many thanks,
CarmineOK. I solved it!
Whoever will have the same problem may ask how I solved. It
is not complicated but it is a long story. I succeed without any
reinstall of operating system as suggested by the ADOBE support, in
case any of the suggestions found everywhere, will give no result.
I will be happy to explain what to do to whoever will need
it.
My very best wishes,

Look at NVu which is free and does a very decent job. I tried
it when it
was only in beta and it was promising although it couldn't
get me to
switch from Dreamweaver. I haven't used the final version but
I'm
certain it will give you better results than using Fireworks'
rigid and
easily breakable exported HTML and certainly a lot better
than FrontPage.

This is because, despite its flaws (and they are severe),
Fireworks'
exported code is less proprietary and more cross browser
compatible than
FrontPage's. I believed that later versions of FrontPage
created better
code but your story proves once again that no visual Web
"design"
application that falsely promise WYSIWYG is a substitute for
learning
the basics of Web design and development and getting your
hands dirty in
HTML and CSS code to understand how things work. Web design
is certainly
not only about the visuals and any designer who thinks he can
get away
with only creating Web sites visually without the need for a
working
knowledge of the underlying code is seriously delusional (not
saying
this is your case).
I do not mean you need to create your sites' code in NotePad
(which is
completely inefficient IMO). But you do need to understand
how things
work under the hood to make the right decisions in your
editor and be
able to fix problems. WYSIWYG is a pipe dream. Don't buy into
it.
Until you can afford something like Dreamweaver, NVu could
serve your
needs as it offers a source code view and apparently creates
decent code
out of the box. Learning to code HTML and CSS in a more text
based
application may be better for you in the long run if you are
serious
about learning this craft properly though. I'm sorry that I
cannot point
you to specific learning resources as it's been years since I
was a
beginner in this field and learned from too many sources. If
there is
one book I could recommend that I wish had been around when I
started
out in early 1996, it would be Zeldman's "Designing with Web
Standards".
This could be one of the smartest investment you make right
now:

Fireworks CS3 hangs on opening
Since a couple of days ago when I start Fireworks CS3 it gets

that? HOW you check, I am not sure, though.
