Fireworks CS3 Program Switching Issue

In the office we have 3 machines using Fireworks CS3 (part of Studio CS3). All the machines are experiencing the issue I am about to describe. Each machine is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram. All 3 machines are using Windows Vista.
We all had the old Vista Aero problem with brushes, and we quickly overcame this by using the "disable desktop composition" fix.
However, one problem we have never been able to solve occurs when switching between ANY application and Fireworks. There is a delay of at least 20-30 seconds (sometimes more) when trying to swap back to Fireworks. We have being doing various Google & Adobe forum searches regularly over the past 2+ years, looking in vein for a fix, but as yet have still not managed to find a solution or even a record of someone else with the same issue (mainly because out searches are dominated with the old "disable desktop composition" fix). We assumed it was a problem fundemental to CS3 yet still hold out hope for a solution.
Normally it's not a problem, but when working on websites which involve a lot of graphics edits and/or switching in and out of Fireworks it can quickly add a very frustrating hour or more to a job.
Recently, I was forced to upgrade to a new computer with Windows 7, and transfered my old CS3 install to the new machine. I was surprised to find that I can switch in and out of Fireworks instantly, much to the frustration of the other guys in the office who are unfortunately stuck with Vista for the time being.
Is there a fix for this horrible switching delay on Vista and has anyone else here even sufered with the same issue?
TL:DR - This is not the desktop composition problem with brushes which seems to domnate results when we try to search for a fix, this is a very noticable delay when swapping in and out of Fireworks.

I'm affraid that didn't help. It actually slowed down the inital launch of the program and it took around 5 minutes for Fireworks to finally start. Once started the program switching issue was still present

  • Issue with Fireworks CS3

I'm experiencing an annoying issue with Fireworks CS3.
Immediate use of the application is not available after its opened.
Meaning, clicking on the application menu more than once returns a
message in the title bar, "Adobe Fireworks CS3 (Not
Responding)", and it hangs there at least 30 seconds or so
until it's ready to be used. And this is even having Windows Aero
    disabled.
I recently formatted my computer and have minimal programs
    installed. Here's an overview:
    Windows Vista Business x64
Intel Core2 Quad CPU @2.40 GHz, 2400 MHz, 4 Cores
    8 GB Memory - DDR2
    500G 8M 7200 SATA II Hard Drives (x2)
    GeForce 8600GT 256M video card
    Office 2007 Ultimate (complete install)
CS3 Web Standard (less Contribute and Version Cue)
    Acrobat Pro 8.1.1
    iTunes 7.6
    QuickTime 7
If anyone has an idea why this may be happening, please let
    me know.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Clutching at straws here but my last bit of advice would be
    to make sure
you have the latest NVidia drivers for your graphics card.
    Other than
that I don't know what else to tell you except that Fireworks
    works
great for me which of course doesn't help. Maybe a call to
    support would
get you some more pointed advice are you certainly don't seem
    to be
alone with this issue although it doesn't affect every Vista
    user.
FWIW, before I got this machine last July (2007) I ran CS3 on
    an aging
2001 AMD Athlon 1 GHz machine with 1 GB or Ram (running XP
    Pro). While
no CS3 (or any other) application was blazingly fast,
    Fireworks was no
worse than any other. The worst offender for me was
    Illustrator.
There has to be a combination of hardware, drivers or memory
    resident
apps that makes it worse for Fireworks somehow but these
    kinds of issues
are the hadest to troubleshoot. That's why I think getting a
    hold of
Adobe's official support may help as I hope they are
    gathering data on
this to hopefully pinpoint a cause for the problem and may
    have some
more meaningful advice than I or other users here may be able
    to give.

  • Problems with Fireworks CS3 in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Pro from Windows XP Pro. My Fireworks CS3 is having a problem. I cannot select items in the left side menu bar if I minimize or move the Fireworks CS3 window. If I have just opened the window it works, but minimize the window or move it and the toolbar stops working.
This problem is not unique to my machine. 2 other people are having the exact same problem. Here is the link to the Windows 7 forum:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/software/26957-adobe-fireworks-cs3-issue.html
We sure could use some help. This is one of my bread and butter programs.

I'm happy to hear you have other work-around alternatives!
Businesses with mission-critical software usually are very careful to research that their software will run on any proposed new system or that alternative software is available. This is the main reason that Microsoft had to continue supporting XP longer than they intended. Too much business-critical software ran on XP but did not run under Vista and would take some time before it would be upgraded to do so...if at all.
If you have "bread and butter" apps, then it was your responsibility to make sure that you could run them once you upgraded. Adobe's software worked more or less as advertised for the operating systems that were available at the time the versions were released. That's reasonable. Expecting indefinite support into the future is not.
Fireworks isn't a $2000 product. Adobe continues product development, yes. They've moved on to CS4 and its patches. You can upgrade to FW CS4 for about $150. The system requirements for FW CS4 do not include Windows 7; note that Fireworks is only certified for 32-bit operating systems:
    http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/software/fireworks4/systemreqs.html
However, there's a statement about CS4 applications (in general) working with Windows 7:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/fireworks/faq/?anonymous_element_1=4
And you'd want to get the recent updater:

    speedtigger wrote:
... It is probably not a huge problem to fix for an Adobe engineer.
If the feature worked under Vista but does not work under Windows 7, then that means that the problem probably lies somewhere in how the program communicates with the OS. The problem is not isolated to the tens - possibly hundreds - of thousands of lines of Fireworks code, but in how that code interacts with the Windows 7 APIs. To solve this problem is not the work of "an Adobe engineer." It's the work of a project team. It's the work of a project team which would have to be pulled off development of Fireworks CS5 for a few months to resurrect the old CS3 code, get familiar with it, and try to track down and solve the problem, then package up, test, and release a patch . By pulling resources off CS5 development, CS5 would be delayed or quality inversely impacted. Since CS3 is not a current product for sale, I can't see Adobe making this investment. There's no return on it, where there would be a return on getting a quality FW CS5 out the door on time.

  • Creating a web page in Fireworks CS3

When I create a web page in Fireworks CS3 and export it the
page apears on the left side of the screan. I want it to be in the
center of the screan. How do I make it centered? I know that if I
open it in MS Front Page I can select page properties and center
the page in that program but how do I do it in Fireworks?

Look at NVu which is free and does a very decent job. I tried
    it when it
was only in beta and it was promising although it couldn't
    get me to
switch from Dreamweaver. I haven't used the final version but
    I'm
certain it will give you better results than using Fireworks'
    rigid and
easily breakable exported HTML and certainly a lot better
    than FrontPage.

This is because, despite its flaws (and they are severe),
    Fireworks'
exported code is less proprietary and more cross browser
    compatible than
FrontPage's. I believed that later versions of FrontPage
    created better
code but your story proves once again that no visual Web
    "design"
application that falsely promise WYSIWYG is a substitute for
    learning
the basics of Web design and development and getting your
    hands dirty in
HTML and CSS code to understand how things work. Web design
    is certainly
not only about the visuals and any designer who thinks he can
    get away
with only creating Web sites visually without the need for a
    working
knowledge of the underlying code is seriously delusional (not
    saying
    this is your case).
I do not mean you need to create your sites' code in NotePad
    (which is
completely inefficient IMO). But you do need to understand
    how things
work under the hood to make the right decisions in your
    editor and be
able to fix problems. WYSIWYG is a pipe dream. Don't buy into
    it.
Until you can afford something like Dreamweaver, NVu could
    serve your
needs as it offers a source code view and apparently creates
    decent code
out of the box. Learning to code HTML and CSS in a more text
    based
application may be better for you in the long run if you are
    serious
about learning this craft properly though. I'm sorry that I
    cannot point
you to specific learning resources as it's been years since I
    was a
beginner in this field and learned from too many sources. If
    there is

out in early 1996, it would be Zeldman's "Designing with Web

  • Premiere Pro CS3-CONSTANT Memory issues when editing/rendering/exporting

Alright, as said in the title I am currently using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, and my issues are horrendous
No matter what, within 10 minutes of editing, Premiere will warn and then crash because of memory issues, starting with the message:
"Adobe Premiere Pro is running very low on system memory; please save your project and proceed with caution"
Also, whenever I try to export this project, within 800 frames of a 7000 frame project (currently), it displays the message:
"Error Compiling Movie", and then the previous message above if that hasn't already happened before
And eventually, the program will crash out of nowhere, with random windows errors
    Here's my specs:
    Intel i7 920 Processor
    6 GB DDR3 RAM
    Nvidia 480 GTX
    750 watt power supply
    24" Dell Ultrasharp Monitor
Now, I've noticed that whenever Premiere is getting close to crashing, my RAM gets up to around 4.7 GB being used, and then it crashes.
I have already gone into Edit-Preferences and tried switching from Performance to Memory; that hasn't fixed anything
I noticed that when I was just running my video over and over again, it stayed stable at 4 GB or so, so maybe its a rendering issue?
I have already tried lowering my number of processes running at any given time, including my antivirus program (Kaspersky) and even explorer, but it still crashes no matter what.
    ========================================================================================== ========
This is a SERIOUS issue for me, as even with all the normal crashes I could finish the video; but now I cannot even export my video at ALL without it crashing, and I have a plenty strong-enough computer to handle this, so what gives?
    Please help

Ok, well this has been getting me nowhere
I tried importing (both my CTRL-X method, and literally importing the project), and now the program won't even RENDER the footage, it just errors out at 800 frames (just like exporting)
    What is going on???
I used to use Premiere Pro 2.0 all the time, on a separate computer, but I have 6 GB of RAM, is this really impossible???
    EDIT:
And now, even after finally getting it to render (by saving after rendering before what crashed, and then starting it up and rendering again), all my footage looks like crap XP

  • Fireworks CS3 OS X constant crashes with complex files

I recently purchased CS3 and started using Fireworks CS3
instead of Photoshop for web development. Absolutely love it. I
started having crashes, mainly on opening complex files created in
Fireworks CS3. A couple weeks ago I formatted my entire system,
starting completely from scratch, only installing the applications
and fonts that I absolutely needed. Nevertheless, I continue to get
Fireworks crashes, which appear by the logs to be related to a
    memory leak in Fireworks.
If Fireworks only crashed itself, the issue would be bad
enough. But it brings down several other apps with it. The apps are
different each time. Sometimes it crashes Mail and Dashboard
Calendar, sometimes it crashes Firefox and iCal. Rarely does it
crash only itself. And rarely does it crash all programs. It's
usually a random selection of apps.
All other CS3 apps have worked beautifully. All other apps on
the box work great. And the log is filled with stuff like:
    quote:
Adobe Fireworks CS3(299,0xa000cfc0) malloc: *** Deallocation
of a pointer not malloced: 0xfcc2a8; This could be a double free(),

Brian, I share your frustration. Fireworks has become
completely unstable for me with large or complex files on my Mac.
It works much better on my PC though. It has been my experience
that almost all releases of Macrodobe software works this way on a
mac until late in its product cycle.
This, sadly, seems to be the way Macrodobe works though. :(

  • Fireworks CS3 Not Displaying Photoshop CS3 file Exactly

Ok, so I was down to start using Fireworks to do my image
optimization, in fact I was somewhat excited. I heard that
Fireworks CS3 was supposed to load in PSD's seamlessly, support the
layer styles, and all that good stuff.
Well mine doesn't. It does not support clipping layer masks
at all. The opacity and look of my layer styles do not match from
    how they look in Photoshop.
Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong? Am I going to
have to completely change my workflow? Or am I going to have to
    stick with using ImageReady CS2?
    Any help is appreciated.

I have to say that Adobe has done a lot better in CS3
regarding Fireworks compatibility. Adobe used to be downright
hostile to Fireworks users, and now that's not the case, but they
have a LONG way to go before they can claim seemless integration.
There is still a problem with layer blending in Photoshop
translating to Fireworks. When it comes in, it doesn't always
match. The color spaces don't match, either.
Masking is another issue, but I never do my masking in
anything but Fireworks, anymore (for web graphics), because
Fireworks has so many approaches to masking. In Fireworks, you can
draw vector masks (same as creating a path in Photoshop), place an
object inside of a vector (which includes a vector with a gradient,
to create a gradient mask), group layers together as masks, or
paint a bitmap mask on a layer (same as photoshop).
Fireworks is not the same thing as Photoshop. It's become the
best of many web production tools, in my opinion, a best of app
combining Photoshop, Illustrator and Freehand. To become a power
user and truly understand what the diehards are so excited about,
you really need to learn it from the ground up. If you try to
translate what you know from any other program to Fireworks, that
will reduce the real power of the program. You'll need to rethink
how you do pretty much everything, but it really is worth
    it.

  • Fireworks TO Photoshop integration issues

I love designing my websites in Fireworks, however most of
the developers I work with want layered PSD documents to develop
with (don't ask me why, its a whole other discussion entirely).
Needless to say I was thrilled when rumours came about that
Fireworks CS3 offered 'full' integration with Photoshop CS3. It
will be my main reason to upgrade from studio 8.
Luckily I downloaded the trial version of both programs first
only to find the integration from fireworks TO psd file very poor.
Granted, the fact that layers are exported is a big plus but
the way texts are handled is a nightmare.
When I turn a fireworks document into a *.psd file and open
that document into Photoshop the following happens (this, ofcourse,
only happens when I update the textlayers):
    > line distance in pixels is not supported by photoshop:
it turns the lading into huge distances (24px --> 450pt)
    > different colors / fonts / styles are not supported: it
tuns the whole textfield in to a similar color / font / style
    > All fonts dissapear and the test is set in Myriad!!
    Ieven when I use Arial)
This is a major dissapointment for me, not too mention that
it creates a lot of extra work.
I hope it's something I do wrong, I find it hard to believe
that the (text) integration between fireworks and photoshop has
become worse than before.. but it does seems this way.
Tips, ideas, work arounds are -very- welcome
    for your information:
    I'm running a macbook pro 2.3 Ghz, 2Gb and 256Mb
    videocard

First of all, good for you for testing out the trial first!
I understand there were technical issues in getting the Adobe
    Font
rendering engine to work reliably in FW CS3 so unfortunately,
    text
    problems still exist.
In reality, the integration seems to be more of a one-way
    street, from
PS to FW for this version.
Maybe it's on the PS receiving end, or maybe on the FW export
    side.
Integration IS better, but it still has a ways to go. If you
    read
somewhere on Adobe's site that there is FULL integration, I'd
    put in a
call to customer support. That's the marketing people talking
    without
    thinking.
A couple suggestions that may not be feasible for your
    workflow.
If the text is "locked in" in terms of it not requiring
    editing in PS
you could try NOT updating the fonts
    OR
In FW render the fonts as paths, export the file as a PSD,
    and don't
save the converted PNG, so your text remains editable withing
    FW.
These may not be practical options for you, but other than
    doing all the
text in PS, it might be the only way at the moment.
That said, there are still many great features in FW CS3. If
    the
integration is your only buy-in feature, though, that may not
    be enough.
FW is much more akin to Illustrator than it is Phostoshop, so
    it's hard
to predict when there will be FULL integration.

  • PSD File Assiciations Fireworks CS3

    Hi
Having lots of problems with Fireworks CS3 on PC (XP). Most
of these issues I can live with but the main problem is that I just
can't get it to associate with PSD files. After trying to do it
manually, the Fireworks icon shows on PSD files but when I double
click on the image icon it tries to open in Acrobat. When I
uninstall Acrobat it tries to open in Dreamweaver. When I uninstall
Dreamweaver it tries to open in an image viewer I have installed.
If I try to open it manually by going through the Folder
Options (or right click "Open With") route & click on
Fireworks.exe, it still tries to open in other applications
(Acrobat then Dreamweaver etc). Fireworks never shows in the list
of "Recommened Programs", so I need to browse for it.
Thanks for any help (Adobe & MS support could not help).

Can you not simple select it in File Type and choose
Fireworks and choose always use this program? That should work.

  • CS3 Page size issue

hello! i am looking for some Dreamweaver CS3 support/help. I have built several websites with my CS3 program but am now starting to build more advanced sites (at least for me) and am finding that i create a site page within Dreamweaver and as i begin editing it and adding photos, tables, etc the page automatically resizes itself and no matter what i do in design view i can get the size back to where it started.
for example, i have a page that started out as 1150 pixels wide. the page has a menu bar on the left side and also has two text tables with print/data inside the main frame - there is a title bar at the top. The issue begins when i add a table with a photo and page heading in the title bar at the top. All of a sudden my page expands to over 2200 pixels and no matter what i do i cant get it to resize - when i try to manually move the border lines all that happens is my menu bar size increases 3 fold and the page just keeps getting more and more spread out..please help!!! I'm trying to create myself a photo album in dreamweaver and
it says I need Fireworkds 4 or GREATER, so I click the download
trial button and I downloaded thhe Fireworks CS3, but dreamweaver
doesn't recognize it and keeps saying "I need a fireworks 4 or
    greater"

I have Dreamweaver 8. So what fireworks program would I need
for the photo album to work. Can I get a trial of Fireworks 4 or
some other fireworks program somewhere else??

  • Fonts NOT showing up in Illustrator but are in Fireworks (CS3)

    Hi,
I have the CS3 package and it works great. However, I have a load of fonts on my system that are not appearing in the fonts menu in Illustrator CS3. I checked if Fireworks CS3 was picking them up and it is...this is great, but why not in Illustrator??
I also checked Photoshop, and they don't show there either. This is really weird. These are only basic fonts like "Helvetica" etc.
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated on how to resolve this.
I am using Vista 64 and the CS3 suite.
    Thanks again,
    Mikey

Along with Mikey, I have a large number of fonts loaded but, when looking at them in the font list (with 'Preview' turned on), only about half of them actually display a font...the rest are blank. When I apply the 'blank' fonts to text, nothing appears. When I apply a functioning font that does show a preview, it looks fine. Maybe these are related issues?

  • Blurry Text using Fireworks CS3 version

I'm creating an ad for use in our local phone book yellow
pages using CS3 Fireworks. When I save it in .png or .jpg and print
it out it is very blurry and unacceptable. I made the mistake of
submitting an ad for something else thinking that the pros would be
able to print it out and it would be clear - and it printed
horrible. Why am I unable to print a clear .jpg file?

properties say the Max Resolution is 1200dpi. I'm really baffled
that this would happen in such a high end software such as
Fireworks CS3 version. How can anyone design anything using fonts
    if this happens.
    Yep, it's a tiny image. At 1200 dpi a 300-pixel image would
look good at about 1/4 inch. Maybe 1/2 inch, but it'll start to
look kinda blurry. Your printer may not have the same resolution as
the printer the phone book will be printed on, so you need to know
the print shop's recommendations. Then, do some math. If you know
the size in inches you want your advertisement to be, multiply
those dimensions by the dpi to get the dimensions in pixels to make
your Fireworks document. (Ignore the dpi settings in Fireworks.)
You could possibly get by with something half as big, but you
should ask the print shop for recommendations.
Better still is to use Illustrator or another vector drawing
program and submit scalable art in .ai or .eps format. But, again,
check with the print shop for guidelines.

  • Fireworks CS3 Error on Set-up

Running installation on Win XP and getting to setup when I
receive an error that IE needs to be shut down. I disabled IE
several times, rebooted again and no success. IE is not running and
the software given me an fatal error to contact support. Please I
need to test Fireworks for future Joomla web work.

A Huge thanks to nedsbeds for finding out that his
issue was the DW sites registry. I tried the same thing and
Fireworks launched properly. The down side is that I have 26 sites
defined in DW so I spent another half hour importing the sites back
into DW. After each site was imported I tried to start Fireworks
until I found the site definition that was causing Fireworks to
    crash.
Cause: When I upgraded to CS3 Web Suite I exported my
Deamweaver 8 sites and then imported them in Dreamweaver CS3.
Obviously for me Fireworks CS3 didn't like one of my site
definitions. I would never have made a connection between Firworks
and Dreamweaver sites except for NedsBeds previous post.
Problem (read bug): Fireworks will unexpectedly quit if
Dreamweaver has a site definition that it doesn't like. In my case
the site in question used a dot in the site URL (
    http://site.local/).
Solution (read work-around): For me I needed to change the
site url in the Dreamweaver site definition so it didn't have a dot
    in the URL (
    http://local_site/).
Steps to solve without having to re-create all your sites in
    Dreamweaver:
    1. Export all your sites from the Deamweaver site manager.
    2. Start Fireworks and see if launches normally. If it
doesn't this isn't a solution to your specific problem. If it does
    continue with the next steps.
    3. Import your sites into the site manager one at a time,
starting (then quitting) Fireworks after each import.
    4. When you find that the site you just imported causes
Fireworks to crash delete it and continue with the next site.
    5. After importing all your sites and verifying that
Fireworks will run re-create the site(s) that cause Fireworks to
    crash.
This has been plaging me for months and I have spent
countless hours tring to get Fireworks CS3 to run. Now thanks to
nedsbeds pointing me in the right direction I am finally happy with
    my purchase again!
I hope this helps some other people in this topic that have
    been frustrated by this bug.

  • After installing Fireworks CS3, IE shows the download dialog instead of opening PNG images

After installing Fireworks CS3, when clicking a link to a PNG
image, IE displays a download dialog instead of opening the image.
I am not sure why Fireworks becomes the default file handlers of
PNG and GIF without asking or notifying the user during
installation, but I think this is the cause.
Does anybody know how to fix the problem?
    Thanks,
    Franklin Tse

Fireworks uses a form of .png as its native file format
(which many people find unfortuante) The Fireworks format includes
some additional information, allowed by the specification, so you
want to make sure that, if you want a .png for the Web, you
export from you Fireworks image, not just
    save.
In any case you can re-associate the file types. Exactly how
you re-associate file types depends on your OS.
In Vista, right click on a .gif and select 'Properties.'
Under 'Type of file', click on the 'Change'
button and change the associate application. Make sure the
checkbox next to 'Always use the selected program to open this kind
    of file' is checked.
