Fireworks CS3 slow to open

Vista Ult
Pentium Core Duo 2.0ghtz
2gb ram
Are others finding that FW CS3 opens very VERY slowly and
even after it
opens it takes a while before any of teh buttons on teh main
launch screen
are clickable. In fact, in that span of time between FW
opening and the
buttons on the launch screen being clickable, clicking
anywhere results in a
"Not Responding" in teh title bar until FW catches up.
One last thing: I have already disabled Aero when FW opens,
so that isnt the
culprit. If I dont do that, then bitmap tools (like
paintbrush & eraser)
become so slow and jarring that they are unusable...
I'm uber disappointed with these performance problems...

  • Fireworks CS3 slow startup

    Hi folks,
I installed CS3 Web Premium last week. Not had chance to play
with it a lot as yet but I have come across one irritation already:
When I launch Fireworks CS3 it takes between 10 and 20 seconds from
the program loading on screen to being able to either open a file
or create a new file. Clicking anywhere (e.g. menus) while waiting
gives a 'Not Responding' error message in the window title bar.
I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems or
knows how I might improve the startup responsiveness.
I'm running CS3 under Windows XP with all patches installed
on a Dell Precision 390 workstation with 4GB RAM.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nigel Hodgetts

Ok... that's 2 strikes against you right there... ;-) The
    only thing
worse is if you had Norton Antivirus but I guess they're both
    about
    equally crappy (seriously).
First thing I would try would be to exclude the entire
    Fireworks
application folder from VirusScan's real time check and same
    for its
application data folder in Documents and Settings. Ideally, I
    would
ditch Mcaffee and get a good antivirus like AVG or NOD32.
    Both are very
light on resources and will not slow down your system. AVG
    has a free
version but NOD32 is about the best antivirus money can buy
    (it's not
that expensive). I've been running it for over a year now and
    it's the
best I tried. I needed the lightest resources hungry AV
    possible as I'm
a musician and run resources intensive software that needs to
    work well
    in real time.
In your case, the number of fonts is probably a greater cause
    of your
slow FW startup time than McAffee. You really should invest
    in good font
management software. There are free solutions you can look up
    on Google
but the one I prefer is Extensis Suitcase (version 11 came
    out
recently). A cheaper and very good alternative is FontExpert
    from
Proxima Software which had a new version release recently.
Ideally, you should never keep no more than about 50-100
    fonts directly
installed in your Windows font folder and should activate and
    deactivate
fonts on a "as needed" basis using font management software.
    More than
about 300 installed fonts (less on some machines) will
    definitely slow
down your graphic apps startup time and Fireworks is
    especially
sensitive to that. I manage over 5000 fonts (yes, that's 5
    thousand)
with Suitcase but I never have more than about 75-100 fonts
    installed/activated at once.
Some font management software also come with plugins for
    certain apps
that will automatically find and load missing fonts when
    opening a
document. Unfortunately, none come with one for Fireworks
    AFAIK but
FontExpert has one for Illustrator and Suitcase as plugins
    for both
Illustrator and InDesign. Both companies say they'll probably
    produce
more so, if your purchase either, enter official feature
    requests for
missing font loader plugins for Fireworks.
Suitcase has the best font matching algorithm and goes a lot
    deeper than
just the font name to find a match which is very important
    for text
heavy layouts in apps like Illustrator and InDesign (which I
    both use
regularly as well) because minute differences in
    hinting/kerning can
cause unwanted text reflows if you load the wrong version of
    a given font.
In any case, you should see significant load time
    improvements if you
dramatically reduce the number of fonts you have installed in
    your
windows/fonts folder and getting more efficient Antivirus
    software will
    help your entire system's performance.

  • Photoshop CS3 Slow to Open Images

I've just converted to win7 and have PS CS3 installed.  When I do an update check, there are no updates for photoshop available, so I believe I'm  current.  If I open an image jpg via the file menu, or bridge, or using ACDSee, the image files (or files) are slow to open.  If can usually see a message up in the photoshop title bar (where the logo is followed by "Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended") where it will briefly say "not responding".  This started with going to win7.  It will take 20 seconds or more to open a jpg and these are not giant files.
Under Options/Performance, I've indicated to Let Photoshop use 1194MB which is the top of the ideal range.  The range that photoshop indicates as ideal never changes, no matter whether photoshop is running alone or with other  apps.  I've indicated scratch disks on my E and C drives, with E being the first listed.  E have over 500 gb of free space and C has over 190gb free.  History states are 20 and cache is 6.  GPU settings for my NVidia GE Force 8800 video card has enable 3D acceleration checked.
I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to optimize.  I never had this problem in vista using CS3.

This is a known bug and has been reported many times in the forum.

If you don't have one, download it here:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=pdrv&platform=win
All part of the fascinating world of Photoshop CS3.
Regarding the update status, in PS go to Help > About to check the version; it should be 10.0.1.

  • Fireworks CS3 hangs on opening

Since a couple of days ago when I start Fireworks CS3 it gets
    hanged for
some minutes. On the application title appears "Not

I things this is related to the update intalled by Adobe

I know that corrupt fonts can cause problems, too. Have you

  • Fireworks CS3 - Slow down problems

    Hi all
I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate and also
Fireworks CS3 - Fireworks loads up fine but the problem arises when

there is a massive delay while drawing (like the CPU is
struggling). Does anyone have a solution to this?

    I don't know but I doubt it. It's a quad core processor
    right? It seems
(from what I quickly read on AMD's site) to be a very similar
    processor
to mine (Athlon X2 64 Dual Core 5200+) except for the number
    of cores or
course but I don't think that would aversely affect
    application
performance, even apps that don't support multi core procs.
Are your graphics card drivers current?

  • Photoshop CS3 slow to open files

I have looked at all the answers i can find so far on this and other forums, but have not yet been able to effect a solution, so please bear with me, and hopefully someone can assist further.
The problem is that opening files is painfully slow - having read about the issue with network printers (which I don't have) I have deleted everything listed under printers and re-installed the only printer that I have (which is locally attached via USB, but I deleted it in case Adobe thought is was a network printer).
I have tried to create a generic printer (as recommended by Mr Joslin to jangel2 http://forums.adobe.com/message/2657130#2657130), but the installation failed and no additional printers were visible in control panel/printers.
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell desktop, with plenty of memory etc.
I have a number of external hard drives, and have turned all these on so Photoshop can find them in case it's looking, but this made no difference.
I am at a loss and hope someone can help.
    Many thanks
    Lizzie

Hi All, Apologies for the radio silence and many thanks for your responses.
A techy friend of mine came round and changed loads of settings, restored to a previous point (prior to the windows upgrade) to no avail, and decided that the whole system needed rebuilding. Rather dejected, we searched the internet once more for possible solutions (this time under the heading "slow printing from Photoshop Epson" - although it was not the printing per se that was slow, just the loading of the file).
This is the fix that we found: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=48960.0
The relevant text from the forum (in case the link doesnt work) is:
"I spoke with both Photoshop and Epson support guys and was able to come up with a fix (from Epson).  The fix involved deleting a hidden file in a hidden folder called Program Data on the C:\ drive.  The file had an extension of .AUD and was 40 megabytes in size. It was the only file with the .aud extension. Once I deleted that file, all of my problems went away.  The Epson support guy said that this file has caused problems in the past.  He thinks that the file is generated by the system and just keeps getting larger and larger until everything grinds to a halt.  To access hidden folders in Windows Explorer, click on the Tools tab, click on Folder options,  click on View.  Under the heading "Hidden Folders and files" click on  "Show Hidden Folders and files". You will then be able to access the folder "Program Data".  In the folder called "Program Data" you will find a folder titled "Epson".  In the Epson folder is a folder called "Printer".  In the printer folder is the file (In my case anyway) called "EPAUDF01.AUD.  When I deleted the file (that had swollen to 40 megabytes), the system (or the Epson Printer program... I'm not sure which), generated a new file that was 2 kilobytes in size, after I had restarted my machine.  I keep monitoring the file to see if it changes size, but so far it hasn't."
Having deleted the file *.AUD, Photoshop loaded images as fast as lightning.
Thought this would be of use to you all, and thank you once again.

  • After installing Fireworks CS3, IE shows the download dialog instead of opening PNG images

After installing Fireworks CS3, when clicking a link to a PNG
image, IE displays a download dialog instead of opening the image.
I am not sure why Fireworks becomes the default file handlers of
PNG and GIF without asking or notifying the user during
installation, but I think this is the cause.
Does anybody know how to fix the problem?
    Thanks,
    Franklin Tse

Fireworks uses a form of .png as its native file format
(which many people find unfortuante) The Fireworks format includes
some additional information, allowed by the specification, so you
want to make sure that, if you want a .png for the Web, you
export from you Fireworks image, not just
    save.
In any case you can re-associate the file types. Exactly how
you re-associate file types depends on your OS.
In Vista, right click on a .gif and select 'Properties.'
Under 'Type of file', click on the 'Change'
button and change the associate application. Make sure the
checkbox next to 'Always use the selected program to open this kind
    of file' is checked.

  • Error when opening Fireworks CS3 by first time

I downloaded the trial version of Fireworks CS3 as I'm
planning to buy it, but after downloading and installing it,
Fireworks wouldn't work, a message appeared saying that the License
for the product stopped working, I tought a problem might have
ocurred during downloading so I downloaded it again, installed but
the same problem continued. The message that appeared also said
that maybe reinstalling would be the solution but it wasn't.
    THE
    MESSAGE BOX ERROR
    What can I do?

I've read all of the instructions, but I'm afraid that I only
count with 8 of the 9 requirements, I have a RAM of 448MB, anyhow I
don't think this has anything to do with the error I got, as the
RAM would only affect how fast the program would run, it WOULD let
    me open it.
btw, the download comes with Bridge CS3, the extension
manager and stuff, they all work correctly, expect fireworks wich
is the most important thing, why wont Fireworks work????????? It's
    depressing.
I also noticed some innadequate behaviour where the software
is placed at; the installer creates a folder named "Adobe" wich is
fine, but the programs are placed outside that folder, is this a
sign that has to do with the problem I'm experiencing?
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I just realized that I installed Photoshop CS3 extended
Lite, it might be the problem, but there's even a bigger problem: I
can't uninstall it!! i don't know why, any ideas?

  • Fireworks CS3 cant open any file

    Hi all,
I have Adobe Fireworks cs3 portable and it wont open any file. It wont open the open or save dialog. Even when I drag files into it from my windows explorer, the application shuts down. Any ideas as to what i need to do to sole this?
    Thanks

I never heard of Fireworks CS3 portable, released by Adobe. Fireworks is always installed, it can't be portable (this is not Filezilla, for example, which is very light program and can be portable).
Chances are that you run a version, created by a third party -- I've heard of Photoshop portable, so Fireworks might exist, too, but this is not an oficial version, rather a "hacked" version so that it can work from a USB stick, or any location and be "moved around".
Sorry, I think that I cannot help you with that... I'd suggest installing an official Fireworks version, made by Adobe
