Fireworks CS4 in Mac OSX 10.5.8 nearly unusable

I am a Digital Media Tutor and have been using Fireworks in our curriculum for the past two years.
CS3 had some bugs and would crash occasionally but generally was a good tool for interactive prototyping.
We use the iMac with 4 GB Ram the latest Updates and Mac OSX 10.5.8
Ever since the CS4 version came out the bugs are so bad and so numerous and random that I couldn't even run through a lecture / walkthrough.
So I have now been forced to remove it from the curriculum altogether.
Its a real shame that Adobe has not been able to fix it.
Here are a few that I encountered in my class in just one hour:
Attempting to highlight a word in text to change its color (crash) over and over had to edit in Illustrator.
Aligning text (disappears) still in layer but gone forever
Copying and pasting graphics from one layer to the next (image appears but is unselectable and has no layer)
Changing a regular layer's order (error saying can't adjust master page layer)
No behaviors showing up in the window on Navbar slices forecd to reboot to edit them.
Degrading performance over time and slow response of UI sometimes up to 30 seconds until eventually crashing (assumed memory leak)
Adobe please put some resources into making this software usable and focus on what you have before jumping to CS5.

  • Can't Open Fireworks CS4 in Mac. Error Message

    Hello,
I have had CS4 for 2 years almost and recently Fireworks won't open. When I click on the icon, I get this error message (below). I have updated by my Mac OS and Adobe updates with no success. I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling Fireworks, but it says I would need to deactivate my serial number from within Fireworks. Since I can't open Fireworks, I can't deactivate it - so presumably I wouldn't be able to reinstall it.
All my other Adobe products are working fine - it's just this one.
    I operate Mac 10.6.7
Any suggestions? I'm not a graphic designer, so if you're able to assist, pretend you're explaining to an 8 year-old! :-)
    Thank you kindly.

Thank you Linda, I thought I would post here since other users may have had a similar experience. My next step will be to reinstall the software since I'd rather not pay for their technical support if it's a simple fix - thus the posting here.

  • Is there a way to change the default export filetype in Illustrator CS4 for Mac OSx

    Hi,
I do a significant amount of exporting from Illustrator and always need my images exported as JPG. The default filetype for exporting in CS4 (for mac) is PNG, and I can't find a way to change this. Since I always want to export as JPG, I feel like I should be able to set that as a default.
Am I missing something? How can I change this default?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    You can create an action.
Record the action then go to file export select jpeg and then the quality etc and then exort and stop recording the action give it a keyboard shortcut.

  • How to install english language adobe Photoshop CS4 for Mac OSX 10.7.5 ?

    Hello,
I am in Germany and need to switch Photoshop to English.
The option is not available in the language preferences (attached screenshot)
I could only find an update for Mac OSX 10.4, but not 10.7?
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance!

Languages are serial number specific. You cannot change them on the fly. If your serial number supports it, you would have to install it in English. anything beyond that is a hack like stripping the localization files from the app package...

  • Problem installing dw cs4 on mac osx 10.5.7

    Hi,
I am encountering a weird problem when trying to install dw cs4 on my macbook which runs osx 10.5.7. My user account has admin privilliges, yet when running the setup / installation file either from the disk or by downloading the trial - 2 dreamweaver icons appear in my dock, bounce up and down for a few seconds then disappear.
Are there any known issues installing dw cs4 on 10.5.7?
I have done an OS update to ensure im running the latest version.
I tried installing DW on another laptop running 10.4.11 which worked seamlessly.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Dragging Adobe files to the Trash on a Mac is the surest way to installation nightmare. Adobe products need to be properly uninstalled using the Adobe installer. You will need to clean up your system using the CS4 Clean script from http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html.

  • Adobe Master Collection CS4 and Mac OSX 10.5.8

    hi folks,
we have just deployed two new Mac labs with various multimedia software applications installed. We have encountered serious problems with Adobe software, which effectively makes the applications unusable. The issue seems to be replicated across many of the CS4 applications, including Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, etc. Given that many of you have labs of similar configurations, I was hoping that you may be able to assist/advise.
Basically when a student opens an image in one of these applications that program comes to a halt trying to open the file.
the lab configurations are as follows:
    Mac 22"
    4G RAM
    Leopard, 10.5.8
    Authentication performed using Active Directories
User home directory issued using SMB
Home directory size ranges from 500MB to 1.5GB (different students have different allocations).
Network is CAT6a with 1Gb Switch
    Has anyone experienced this before?
    thanks in advance,
    Dave

I've heard all sorts of reports that using home directories not on the local machine does not work. I do not know if it is supposed to or not. Since Adobe software isn't licensed for use on a server, it could be contributing to the problem. It is possible that it might work with specially licensed versions, but not retail versions. I think you'll have to give Adobe a call. The retail version is licensed to be install on two computers for a specific user.

  • Contribute CS4 on MAC OSX 10.9.2

After updating to 10.9.2 Contribute will not open. I get this message: "No Document Types have been found. The application will exit now." How can I fix this?

I highly doubt that CS4 is compatible (or ever will be compatible) with Mavericks.

  • Issue with Fireworks CS5 on Mac OSX 10.9 Mavircks - worked before?

Tried to launch my copy of Fireworks CS5 today and it kept crashing? It had worked before, but now.. no.  I deleted the app and tried to reinstal.  Recently migrated from MacBook Pro running Mavricks and had this installed prior.  Migrated to iMac with Mavricks.. now wont launch.  Thought it was a serial number issue.  Clearly not.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Please try to change "everyone" user permissions on a share folder to modify to see if the issue still exists.
For more detailed information, please refer to the thread below:

  • File encoding issues with Mac OSX?

I really love DreamWeaver and I think its the best editor our there, except for one thing - the file encoding!
I tried setting the default encoding to UTF-8 under Preferences -> New Document, but that won't cut it.
Dreamweaver always creates/saves new files as Western/ISO format, so I always have to open them up with another text editor and overwrite the file with UTF-8 format.
Is there a fix to this or a extension to download?
I'm using CS4 on Mac OSX Leopard.

CS4 should automatically save files as UTF-8. It's the default setting. You shouldn't need to do anything special.
One thing you could try is removing the Prefs file. On a Mac, it's located at <username>:Library:Preferences:Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 Prefs.

  • Will Master Collection CS4 run on OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion? [was: cs compatibility]

I am buying a new Mac and because of this I wonder, having the CS 4 Master Collection, if it's compatible with Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion.. or will there be any problem of any kind with the software?
If so, how can it be helped, the easiest way? I mean.. I don't really want to upgrade.

    Mac OSX 10.8.x isn’t a tested OS for CS4.
Please refer for the system requirement for Master Collection CS4:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/release-note/readme-cs4-master-collection.html#main_Min_S ys_Req
So, you can install and run the Master Collection CS4 on Mac OSX 10.8.x but we are not sure for any unexpeted problem.
Howvere, we can assist the customer to the point where it’s determined that an issue only occurs under the new OS, but not under the tested Win OSes per the CS4 system requirements.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended - error 150:30 - "LicenseRecoveryLauncher" not supported on Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10

I recently upgraded to Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10
When I try to open Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended it says error 150:30 Licensing for this product has stopped working.
I followed the help advice which says to download some software to mend the problem but it wont launch - error message You can’t open the application “LicenseRecoveryLauncher” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
How can I fix the problem?

OS 10.7 and above uses the python script (.py) which is included in the License Recovery kit.
    Mac OS X 10.7
    a. Double-click the LicenseRecovery111.dmg
Note: Leave this window open and proceed to the next step.
    b. Double-click your Hard Drive.
    c. Double-click Applications.
    d. Double-click Utilities.
    e. Double-click Terminal.
    f. Type “sudo python “
Note: There is a space following “python”. Do not press Return.
    g. Drag LicenseRecover.py from the LicenseRecovery folder onto the Terminal Window and press Return. Note: Make sure that the Terminal window has the command and the path to the APP file. For example: "sudo python /Volumes/LicenseRecovery\ 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/LicenseRecover.py”
    h. Enter your administrator user name and password when prompted and click OK.
    i. Follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Indesign CS4 & Mac osx Lion Issue

I migrated to Mac OSX Leo last week, I use Indesign CS4 6.0.6. Since then, I can not open my projects Indesign CS4 (indd): error code 4, file damaged. None of my projects can not be opened, every time I have the same error code.
I downloaded the trial version of InDesign CS5 to test it, and actually open my projects well with CS5. If I export themas. IDML, at the time CS4 opens the file.
I do not understand anything, anyone has a solution?
    Thank you,
    Gaelle

I have Lion installed on my secondary computer, an iMac.
I just tested opening a few files in CS4, and it works fine.
You may need to reinstall CS4. But because you also installed the CS5 trial, you should uninstall that as well. To do this on a Mac, go to /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and uninstall both CS4 and CS5.
Then use your original install discs and install CS4 again.
