Fireworks + Dreamweaver Itergration

Help!!! I recently upgraded from MX to Studio 8.
When I go into preferences in Dreamweaver, and click on FileTypes
/Editors I've changed my Image editing programs from the old path
to FireworksMX to C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Fireworks
8\Fireworks.exe so that I can edit images using the newer version
of Fireworks. However, when I create an new html file and place a
new image from the /images directory in my site onto the document
window and choose the Edit in Fireworks icon, I get a message
telling me that FireworksMX4 doesn't exist. I know it doesn't
because I've removed the program and am now using Fireworks8, yet,
even though I've changed the path to the new version Dreamweaver is
still trying to refer to the old version of Fireworks. Anyone else
had this problem?

I had the same issue initially. I seem to remember solving it
by
deleting all references to FW and closing the dialog. Then
going back
and adding FW8.

  • New features for Fireworks/Dreamweaver ?

    Hello,
Compared to the CS3 version, are there some new features to
make the couple Fireworks/Dreamweaver work better ?
    Thank you.

Oh, sorry - to make the DW/FW couple work better? I am not
    really aware of
any, but if you are using FW to write HTML to be used in DW
    be aware that
this is a very poor method and will get you into trouble. Is
    that the case?

  • Photoshop/Fireworks/Dreamweaver work flow

Hi chaps - I am a newbie and have been doing weeks of
research - I currently have CS2 but would consider CS3 if I REALLY
need to (though money is a problem at the moment). Here though, my
dilemma. I am a broadcast designer (reasonable knowledge of
Photoshop) who needs to learn how to make a web-site and I want to
do so correctly using the best tools for the job and the best
techniques. I'm learning a little html but would like to develop a
work flow that reflects my existing designer-type knowledge. I've
been working through lots of tutorials, I have bought some from a
couple of excellent companies (guess I shouldn't mention their
names) but they are excellent but even with their CS3 tuts (which
are the most up to date) they work with tables a lot ( and I've
been told to learn CSS not tables) and the Photoshop tuts say
'slice', optimize images and even create rollovers in Photoshop,
Fireworks tuts say do it all in Fireworks, Dreamweaver tuts say do
it all in DW. Can anyone help please ? I've gained a lot of great
knowledge about the 3 packages from my training but not the BEST
    way of integrating them.
Any advice welcome and I'm sorry about the length of the
    post. Regards Roger

  • Fireworks, dreamweaver, flash integration

I'm taking beginning photoshop and flash classes online and at a local college and have adobe master collection CS4. I'm still not sure whether to build my pro musician website (lots of music) in Flash or Dreamweaver with Flash or use Fireworks as the foundation... Confused... Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Use graphics apps to create graphics only.
Use DW to build your web pages - HTML and CSS code.
Insert Flash media into HTML pages when needed. Provide alternate content for devices that don't support Flash.
Flash only sites are not user- and search engine friendly, also not supported by many devices.
Have a look at this 2-part tutorial:

  • Image alignment problem in Fireworks/Dreamweaver

    Hello!
For my webbie, I have made a "large" image using Photoshop and brought it into Fireworks (I'm using CS4 programs btw). I sliced up the image according to the table I wanted and exported each section as .png files (it has to be png for various reasons). My image size is 600px h by 800px w.
So, I create a table in Dreamweaver and in each cell, I insert the .png files.
    Now, my problem is that
some of the cells do not align properly (in two places) and ends up shifing the entire row over so it overextends.
You can see this problem on the two screen caps that I have:
    http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af60/CrescentChi/Picture2.png
    and
    http://i993.photobucket.com/albums/af60/CrescentChi/Picture1.png
Now, I know the logical thing is to check to make sure each row adds up to 800px.
I have done this already and here are the measurements for each cell:
    For row 2 I have: 341, 130, and 329.
    For row 4 I have: 166, 93, 93, 96, 93, 95, and 164.
And as you can see, these add up to 800.
I just end up with some kind of space in between my cells...
the pictures I have provided shows what the property palette shows when I click on either a cell or one of the spaces in between the cells.
Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for your time of looking and help! <3

I did get it from DW.... I got it in the code view.
I did my testing one, but I'm still getting the same problem (nonetheless I'll put the code I used for it down below).
After when I hit File > New in DW I get a flow chart of options (although it goes sideways; I'm using a MAC too btw).
The best choices I get are...
Blank Page > HTML > none (this refers to layout)
Blank Template > HTML template > none
I've been using the first one. There is also a scroll option for DocType (that only appears when I use the Blank Page option). I use the default one they give me: XHTML 1.0 Transitional but there are others...
None, HTML 4.01 Transitional, HTML 4.01 Strict, XHTML 1.0 Strict, XHTML 1.1, and XHTML Mobile 1.0
Maybe something is wacky with my DW program? Honestly, I am still a bit new to this (using DW and using CSS). I'll go back to my DW book and see if what it says. I'll also try and re-install my DW program if I can find the disc....
Thanks so much for your time.

  • Workflow: Fireworks + Dreamweaver + Muse?

Are there any recommendations, either from Adobe or from user experience, on workflow for those of us who at times want to use Fireworks with Muse or Dreamweaver with Muse?
I had understood from presentations that this is not specifically supported by Muse, but then participants / demonstrators showed projects where they used DW and FW with Muse.
Example? I have projects that a client wants template elements that are raster - cannot be rendered by even the most advanced CSS, etc. This needs to be 'cut' in FW. My typical workflow with something like this would be to render in photoshop, cut in FW and then produce / edit code in DW. There are items that render very well in Muse. Why not bring a project like this into Muse as a last step?
    Any recommendations or advice?
Any tutorials or links that go with your advice?

Please check this small video of how fireworks can be sync with Adobe Muse, http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/muse-roundtrip-editing-in-photoshop-and-firewo rks/
You also have an option of placing a photoshop button in Muse, which detects the layers in the photoshop file to be used for different states.
If you have a different suggestion I recommend that you add it to the ideas section over here, http://forums.adobe.com/community/muse/ideas

  • How do I create full width photos for a website with Photoshop - Fireworks - Dreamweaver CS3 ?

    Greetings & Help!
I'm trying to create a full width photo layout using Photoshop or Fireworks CS3 and then end with Dreamwaver CS3 without the photo's being tall.
Exactly as the following websites - which all seem to be using the same size of photo or very close to it.
This site is static with full width photos that are not tall.
    http://www.jenniferhandyproperties.com/selling
This site is static for the most part and full width photos that are not tall
    http://www.gnvpartners.com/web/
This site is Flash with full width photos that are not tall.
    expodesigncenter
I would love to create a flash site just like expo but at this point I would settle for a static photo with the same size being the same on each page.
Also I would like my site to be a liquid layout so the photo and everything else (text, Links etc) on the page flows correctly.
    The problem...
I'm trying to use photo's from Istockphoto.com. The size of the photo's they offer are
    425 x 282 px (5.9" x 3.9")
    849 x 565 px (11.8" x 7.8")
    1698 x 1131 px (5.7" x 3.8")
I'm selecting horizontal photo's. I do not know how to match the same width, height and appearence as the websites I mentioned above.
If I choose a photo that fits the width then the length is too long. Also if I choose a large photo and have to crop it then most of the detail of the photo is lost.
I'm attempting to create a mock-up for my web in Fireworks CS3 and after search Adobe and www I came across the mock up should be 1004px which would end up being 1024 with vertical scroll bar and small margins.
I also have Photoshop & Flash CS3 but should mention (if you haven't already guess it by now) I am a rookie when it comes to creating a website.
So if you can offer a solution in "Non-Tech Terms" I would appreciate it.
Thank you in advance for your time.

In the second example, the photo is set to background with a tile. The other parts are over top of the photo and done with layers with a background color setting.

  • Dreamweaver/Fireworks javascript error

I've been using Fireworks and Dreamweaver for a while.
I'm rebuilding our website, and made my navigation
bar/buttons in Fireworks just like I did on the previous page.
    exported as html.
then I went to dreamweaver and inserted fireworks html... The
buttons worked for a while. one day when I was home I thought I'd
work on it some more, and ever since, whenever I insert the button,
    i get this error...
"while executing object tag in fireworks html a javascript
    error occured"
i can even start with a blank html file and insert any
fireworks file, even the one that works on the current site, and I
    get that error.
I created a new simple button, and still get that error...
The only thing I can think of that's might could have caused
this... at work I have the newer CS3 suite and Dreamweaver 4, and
at home I just have Dreamweaver 4.
Could something have caused this by using both versions when
    working on this new site?

    > it leaves some javascript code in there...
    Oh. I see.
    > thanks i will check them out...
Way better than the FW menus.
    Good luck.

  • Having trouble with Dreamweaver and fireworks willing to pay for support

I'm new to the forum and i was hoping to get some help with
    dreamweaver and fireworks.
I built a site on my own using dreamweaver 3 years ago but
have forgotten almost everything. I am planning on building a new
web site and have been messing with dreamweaver for over a week
trying to figure it out, with little success. I bought a web
building package years ago that included fireworks, dreamweaver,
freehand and maybe more, but i lost my books on dreamweaver and
    fireworks somehow.
Anyways, I was trying to learn dreamweaver 3 and fireworks
and was having a lot of trouble with it. The dreamweaver bible
assumes you know how to make a navigation bar using fireworks and
that simply isnt the case for me. So I need help with that.
Also, i have been having trouble with my template. This is
how you save your basic page correct? For some reason it doesnt
save the whole page for me. I figured out the editable regions
part, I think, but since i didnt know how to make a navigation bar
I made my own links out of text, and this part isnt saving with the
    template.
I have a lot more questions but i think ive taken enough of
your time. I am willing to pay someone to help me build this site,
i cant afford a lot but i think my questions are pretty basic.
    Thanks

There is a recent thread on the FW forum that may interest
    you - it's called
"Firworks and HTML". The advice there applies in your case,
    too.
One problem with your use of DW3 is this -
the browser world has changed quite a bit in the almost 10
    years since DW3
was released. Some (many?) of the behaviors in DW3 simply
    won't work any
more because of these (significant) changes. Are you
    absolutely locked into
    using DW3?

  • Trying to export html to dreamweaver but save images as pngs.

I'm designing a floating site.  My workflow is PS=====>Fireworks====>Dreamweaver.  I made a navbar in FW with a transparent background and exported html to dreamweaver.  I inserted the fireworks htm, put it online and it looks terrible.  You can see it here:
    http://www.njtraininggrounds.com/thirddaydesign.com/identity.html
Don't worry about the portfolio button, I know what's going on there.  But I can't figure out why there is "stairstepping" on the logo and on all the navbar buttons.  This is the first time I've ever created a floating site.  I just put a jpeg for repeat using the dreamweaver css, and then inserted the rest in a table. I got some good replies in dreamweaver forums, but they all centered around saving the images when you export as pngs or as transparent gifs with a green matt.  How can I do this with fireworks cs3?
Could anyone give me an idea of what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks so much.
    Wil

The GIF format supports only one value of transparency. Your text, when anti-aliased against whatever background in Fireworks (transparent?), probably looks fine. When you export, though, you lose the smooth transition. (If you zoom in, you can see the blending of text to background and that's what you're losing.)
    You have two options.
You can still use the GIF format. Just pick a green value out of your background image and use that for your canvas. Then, when you export, set that color to transparent. Where the pixels of the text and that color blend for the anti-aliasing, you'll have opaque pixels, but they'll look all right against your background image.
Use a PNG8, which is an indexed palette like the GIF, but it supports semi-transparent colors. When you go to export, you may want to add more colors using the eye dropper tool, as FW doesn't quite pick out all the values it might for a smooth image. See this article:

(I like exporting through File>Image Preview, myself.)

  • Can't find Fireworks (OSX)

I recently upgraded to Studio 8, and I have a few DW
extensions that use Fireworks for image/photo manipulation. Since
the upgrade I keep running into problems when I try to use the
extensions - it says that FW is not installed. I've added it in the
DW prefs, had it running, etc. but no luck.
I contacted the extension authors - one had no clue, the
other said repair permissions - that worked once or twice, but
having to stop and do that a few times a day is unreasonable. The
second author then sent me a hacked version that has FW always on,
but now that's acting up telling me that only one session is
    allowed.
Has anyone else run into this, and how did you fix it - at
least I hope you were able to fix it.
    Thanks

When doing the following in Dreamweaver: Command\ Create Web
Photo Album", I get a glimpse of the dialogue box, only to have
this message appear in its place: "This command requires that
Fireworks 4 or later be installed on your machine".
I can choose "Download Fireworks trial", and have reluctantly
done so. Don't know if this will help-- especially given the above
experience. (I dislike trial software, because they can become a
    future pain with the cpu.)
    BTW, although I can boot up and work in Fireworks;
Dreamweaver seems to not recognize it. I'm teaching myself the app.
using Khristine Annwn Page's book Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004.
The book is great for pointing out bugs in the software. This
    problem is not mentioned however.
    Platform: Mac, OS x 3.9.
App's: Macromedia Studio MX 2004 (which includes Fireworks 7)
is fully installed on G5's hard drive.

  • Is my fireworks cs3 dying?

ever since i downloaded the cs4 betas (fireworks /
dreamweaver) they have overtaken and smothered my cs3 applications.
i can't keep fireworks cs3 open for longer than a few moments
before it crashes...all of the .png files that were written in cs3
and unfortunately opened in cs4 are now all messed up back in cs3.
I uninstalled the cs4 betas...in leopard 10.5.3 they were buggy and
unpredictable...and now my beloved fw/cs3 is all buggy too....are
there any others experiencing these problems? did the legacy
updates in cs4 completely botch up my cs3 .png ' s? is a full cs3
uninstall / reinstall a possible remedy?

That does sound a lot like a problem with the hard drive.  You can run the Apple Hardware test and see if that shows anything, but a better test can be performed by tthe techs at the Apple genius bar.
In any case, it would be very good to backup your information as soon as you can so you don't loose anything.

  • Fireworks CS4 to CS6 - is there a setting that needs to be adjusted so that web pages look right in

Fireworks CS4 to CS6 - is there a setting that needs to be adjusted so that web pages look right in Internet Explorer?  I was in the middle of creating pages with Fireworks CS4 and exporting them to Dreamweaver CS4 and publishing them to the website. Those pages looked fine. Then I upgraded to CS6 and the pages  look fine in  Fireworks, Dreamweaver and when I preview them "live" in Chrome but not Internet Explorer. Anyone know why?  Also, with upgrading the software I upgraded to a new computer.  Any and all suggestions are welcomed.  Thanks!

Most likely caused by a missing document type declaration (DTD).  Truth is, the HTML code generated by graphics apps is not web worthy.  It's really only intended for quick mock-ups to show a client before you rebuild everything with CSS & HTML code in Dreamweaver.
This 3-part tutorial describes how to take your Design from Fireworks or Photoshop to a CSS Layout in Dreamweaver.

  • Simple image rotator using Fireworks

I have Design Premium CS4. So I have Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, etc. I'd like to create a simple slide rotator to put on the site. I've created a photo gallery with Fireworks. It's easy but I don't want all the header information and navigation buttons. I just want a simple box on the page where the images will rotate automatically without headings, nav buttons, etc. I know there are simple java scripts out there but I want to try something which is easily configurable and easily modified as the images will be changed frequently.
Is there a way to configure the Fireworks gallery to not display the header information? Is there another way to accomplish what I want using other programs in Design Premium CS4?
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Steve

A quickie way would be to design it as an animated GIF in Fireworks, but save it in Flash format. If you'd like to try this, add the images to seperate 'States', and then choose File > Save As > Adobe Flash SWF. Click the Options button in the Save As Window to set the SWF export options.

    Fireworks
