Fireworks exports hundreds of files

Hi
I have a serious problem that I have had for a couple of
years on different computers involving Fireworks and wonder if
anyone can help.
I have an image about 600x600 and I have 14 buttons on it.
Each button has a colour rollover effect and a behaviour attached
to it. The behaviour simply swaps an image in a box in the top
right of the image.
So if you mouse over a button the top right image changes.
And each button changes the top right image too.
It works perfectly in preview mode. However, when I export it
to a folder there over 550 files! I have worked out that there
should be in the region of 100. My problem is that I want to make
more buttons but this will lead to thousands of files.
I have one web site, here,

, where all the buttons in the middle of the screen change the
central image. When I export this, it exports 3,000 files! It has
23 layers and basically, exports 23 versions of the page, rather
than just the central image - or in the example above the top right
image.
No Layer is shared over all States and I am at my wits end
because updating these pages takes about an hour and it is
something I do regularly so I lose a lot of time.
I hope I have explained this well!
Any help would be seriously welcome and very much appreciated
- I have used fireworks for years (ever since it came out) and if
someone can help I will go and answer other forum questions!

UPDATE - well I finished the file, there were 30 layers,
exported it to dreamweaver and there are 3,750 files in the
folder!

Without seeing your PNG we can't do much else besides guess.
Either way the simple answer is to not use any of the Fireworks
code. Create the images in Fireworks, export them, and then
assemble the final site in Dreamweaver or with any other web/text
editor.

I've been asked by someone I'm working for to supply the work I've done as a PNG file that can be edited. I was told that a layered PSD file can be converted to a layered fireworks PNG file. I've tried all sorts of things but either ended up with a flattened image or each layer as a seperate file. I've searched all over for answers but nothing as yet!

Yes, individual PNG-24 files from Photoshop is what you want. In Photoshop, File>Scripts>Export Layers to Files; browse to save location; choose PNG-24 as the file type; check transparency. Prior to this, if you have floating imagery in any layers in the Photoshop file, you will want to place 1-pixel dots in 2 opposing image corners on those layers, so the all layer sizes will be exported at the same size, for layer-registration when composed in Fireworks. Then delete those dots in the exported PNG files and resave.
Then you will need to compose the layers in Fireworks. Once you get your individual layers in PNG format, you might want to pose this question in the Fireworks forum.

Fireworks does not export layers to files

I'm trying to do a very simple task in Fireworks and for some reason it will not work. I have a document with one Page and one State and 30 Layers. All I need to to do is export each Layer to a File. According to Adobe's own documentation all I should need to do is select Export > Layers to Files. However, no matter how many times I try this all it does is export the first layer. This is one of the most simple task imaginable and yet it doesn't work, which I find unacceptable for a piece of software that costs as much as Fireworks does. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there some secrect undocumented trick I'm not aware of?
Any help would be appreciated. My company is ready to purchase 50 copies of Fireworks for our UX team, but if this is how the app behaves I'm going to recommend going with another program that works as advertised.

I have multiple layers. I made the mistake you're referring to when I first started using Fireworks so that was the first thing I checked. I noticed some other things in FW acting wonky, so I installed the latest update and rebooted my machine and everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the quick reply.

Export of RAW files loses EXIF data

I am having a problem when I export files out of the PSE Organizer from RAW format to JPG that I am losing EXIF data on the resulting JPG file.
I am using PSE 6 on Windows Vista and primarily manage my images in RAW format (Nikon D300 NEF) within the Organizer. I am using the latest Adobe Camera RAW plugin ver 5.1 but I have tried this with the last three Camera RAW plugin versions without any difference.
I typically need to get the RAW NEF images into JPG format to post them to my blog so I normally select several NEF files at once within the Organizer then CTRL-E (or File, Export, As New Files), select JPEG, then Export.
The resulting JPG file has no EXIF data for the camera (e.g. Camera make, model, f-stop, exposure, etc) that was on the original NEF file. I am determining this by right-click, Properties, Details on the file within Windows explorer.
Other tests I have done to diagnose this are:
1. Opening an NEF file in Full Edit mode from the Organizer then doing a File, Save As (JPEG), the missing EXIF data *does* get saved properly. The problem with this approach is that it is not suitable to export hundreds of NEF files.
2. I downloaded a trial version of PSE 7 and it behaves identically to PSE6 in this test.
3. I downloaded a trial version of Lightroom 2 and the export feature works properly in this test.
Any help would be appreciated.

My observations of what is happening is exactly what you are seeing with one exception about the XMP update. My reply that I posted about seeing the XMP file being updated was based on the observation that when I did a File > Write Keyword Tag the time and date changed on the XMP file as seen with Windows Explorer. I also looked inside the XMP file with a text editor and saw the updated comments and tags inside. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

Convert Multipage fireworks document to HTML file

I am preparing a Fireworks multipage file containing visual style guide of a product. I would like to convert this to html file for maintainance by other designers and developers. How can I convert all pages to a html file? I tried to export to html file but it exports only 1 page. How can I convert all the pages? I am using CS4.

You can export multiple pages in a single step by selecting all the pages you want to export at once.
-In the Pages panel, select the pages that you want to export.
-Right-click, and select Export Selected Page(s).
-In the Export dialog box, select one of the options from the Export menu:
Layers To Files Exports layers in the selected pages as individual files
States To Files Exports states in the selected pages as individual files.
Pages To Files Exports selected pages as individual files.

Feature Request: Metadata Export to Sidecar Files

I want to be able to export an image file's metadata to a sidecar XMP file that is named after the image file but with an .xmp extension. For proprietary raw files, that's the default. For DNG files, I can tediously force it by locking the file, loading it into Camera Raw, and selecting the "Export Settings to XMP" function. However I want to do this for several hundred or some thousand image files at once—so loading them all into Camera Raw just to make it export the metadata is not really a feasible method.
Worse yet, for JPEG files exporting the metadata to a sidecar file is not possible at all, as far as I can tell. When the JPEG file is writable then the exported XMP metadata will go into the file itself. When the JPEG file is write-protected then Camera Raw will entirely refuse to export the XMP metadata. This behaviour is inconsistent with other file types, as Camera Raw will happily export the XMP metadata to sidecar files for write-protected DNG files. By the way, there is another inconsistency between write-protected DNG files and proprietary raw image files, as Camera Raw will export XMP metadata for both into sidecar files but Bridge will export XMP metadata to sidecar files only for proprietary raw image files but not for write-protected DNG files. That doesn't make sense.
If an image file is write-protected then any changes to the metadata must go into sidecar files—as simple as that. Why are proprietary raw image files, write-protected DNG files, and write-protected JPEG files behaving differently in this respect? Sidecar files are fully supported for proprietary raw files, half-way supoorted for DNG files, and not supported at all for JPEG files.
Anyway—I need a way to select an arbitrary number of image files of any kind (in Bridge, not in Camera Raw) and then export all their metadata to sidecar files, one sidecar file for each image file, at the push of a button. It would be nice if I weren't forced to tamper with file locking first, just create those damn sidecar files when I'm asking for them. I'd even be happy with a createMetadataTemplate() or saveMetadataToSidecar() function in Bridge's scripting interface. There, I found a function to load a thumbnail's metadata from a metadata template (i. e. an XMP file; see applyMetadataTemplate() function)—but no way to save a thumbnail's complete metadata to a metadata template. If there is a way then please tell me. If there is no way yet then please provide one as soon as possible!

The DNG format does support sidecar files. DNG files can have their metadata internally 'under the hood' or externally in a sidecar file. When there is a sidecar file accompanying a DNG file then Camera Raw or DNG Converter will read and use it just as they would for proprietary raw files ... that's very convenient. Only Bridge doesn't allow the user to take advantage of that flexibilty but forces him to use internal metadata always, whether it makes sense or not.

Export Layers to Files: How to keep canvas size

Unfortunately the Script crops to the layer's boundary so every file has different dimensions. How to keep the canvas size of the PSD in the exported files?

Can a Fireworks hotspot open a file?

Hi All,
Iv been given a program to put on my works networks its very simple has a flash front end and when users click buttons it opens various PDF files or thier locations. Because of network restrictions these dont work very well. so I thought id create my own interface and use hotspots to tell it to open the PDF's. I have created the hotspots but I cant find a way to tell fireworks to open Adobe Reader, all I seem to be able to do is display a message, get a drop down menu, and open another page.
Can anyone help or am I best off using something like flash pro

Are you exporting the resulting file as an HTML page? If so, then yes.
The part that always confuses me is the file path. By opening the file to which I plan to link, in the browser that I plan to use, I get the right file path. I copy and paste that file path into the Link field of the Hotspot in my FW document, then save and export the results as HTML.

If you are using Mac, press Apple + I to get the information. It show a table. There is a section call Open with. Change the file with pdf icon to open with indesign. If using PC, just click on the second button on the mouse and open with Indesign.

Can't export an EPS file from Photoshop CS5 and open in Illustrator CS5.

I'm on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
I am making DVD covers for print. The barcodes for the DVD covers have to be done in Illustrator. But the original designs are done in photoshop including the text. For years this hasn't been a problem. Right before adding the barcodes I create an EPS file from photoshop, open that file in Illustrator and all my text is automatically coverted to perfect crisp clean vectors, viola! I add the barcodes and export the PDF for the printers.
But now I can't open my EPS files in Illustrator CS5 even though I'm exporting them the same way I always have from Photoshop CS5. Illustrator says... "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error." --> Note it does not give an error number after this warning like I see it does for so many other people.
I have been trying to fix this for over 10 HOURS spanning 2 days! I'm infuriated I can't get help from Adobe on this and have read all the forums and don't see my problem listed anywhere.
I've tried:
- Deleting the .plist file and the Settings folder & resetting my permissions
- Uninstalling and Reinstalling Illustrator
- Turning off all other applications
- Creating more disk space on my hard drive (even though I have 200gb available)
- Restarting the computer
- Disabling my Font book and still I can't open the EPS file
I thought maybe it's possible it's the font I'm using Fontesque OT so I even tried converting text to objects prior to exporting the EPS file from photoshop to illustrator and turning off my font book, but still it won't open. And if I open the PSD directly in Illustrator, text comes out a bit fuzzy in the PDF I export.
If anyone can provide any solutions I would be so grateful! I'm at my wits end here, this should have taken under an hour to do and now it's ruining my entire weekend. I'm completely panicked because I was suppose to have these to my client over the weekend so they could turn them in for Print frist thing on Monday morning and of course Adobe provides no chat support or phone support after 7pm on weekday or on the weekend which is when this all started.

I never even thought of reinstalling photoshop, but I think this was a font issue. I'd never saved an EPS with Fontesque OT Regular enabled, only Fontesque OT Bold. Somehow I think the font was causing the problem because ridding the font from the equation allowed me to open the EPS file.
After 12 HOURS of trying different things I found a WORK AROUND...
I had to:
- Select the Text in Photoshop (with Fontesque OT enabled) --> Select Create Work Path --> Covert to Shape on each of the text items
- Save EPS file out of Photoshop
- Disable Fontesque OT font in Font Book
- Then open EPS in Illustrator add in my Barcodes and export the PDF
(the barcodes have to be added in Illustrator because they need to be pure 100% black with no CMYK color in them. You can't save them out of Photoshop that way, only Illustrator, otherwise I would have made my pdf straight out of photoshop like any other normal human
This work around is the only way I could get the EPS files to open in Illustrator and still have the text remain super crisp like a vector.
NOTE to others in the future about crisp text from Photoshop to Illustrator:
- Simply "converting to shape" did not preserve the vector. You have to Select Create Work Path --> then Covert to Shape on each of the text items (with the font enabled) for this to work and preserve the crispness of the text. Even creating "smart object" did not truly preserve my vectors or the text crispness in the EPS file once I imported it into Illustrator.
DrStrik9 thank you SO MUCH for trying to help me. You did give me ideas that helped me figure out the workaround and also helped me feel not so alone as I struggled through this. I'm going to follow up with your other suggestions about reinstalling photoshop and also checking my RAM, etc. But I just want to that you so so so SOOOO much for all your time and consideration in this matter. How do I export detached audio files as separate files, for Pro Tools processing?

My project is a live band performance. I have every song as a separate Event with associated audio. I have detachd all the audio from all the video Events. I now want to Export the audio files to Pro Tools for editing, then Import the edited audio back into FCP X and snap the edited audio to the associated video Events.
My problem is this: FCP X keeps exporting the audio as a single large WAV file, rather than as separate WAV files. In fact, the video events are separate, and so the audio associated with the video Events are separate.
I first renamed the Role of every audio file as "Music", then did a Share --> Export Media of all "Music" audio Roles. After exporting, I found it was one large WAV file, rather than separate files of different sizes.
As a 2nd try, I created Sub-Roles for each audio clip, and named each one with a distinct Sub-Role name. I then Exported all these Sub-Roles (yes, tedious). The result was that every exported WAV file was the same size, the same as the file size in my first try. The only audio that could be heard in each file was the audio in that particular song, but FCP X still created the very large file with silence in all the rest of the file. Since the file lengths don't match the original audio fil lengths, there will be a problem when I Import the edited files back into FCP X and want to Snap them into place.
Question:
How can I export the individual detached audio clips as separate files, the length of each file equaling the length of the original audio file in FCP X?
Do I need to separate the detached audio into separate Layers visually in the Project Timeline, so they are not touching? Or does this matter?

You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

How do I export a .dwg file so the Search/Find function can be used on it?

I have some .dwg files that my co-worker exported to PDF. It is crucial for me to have the ability to use the search or "Find" function in Reader. There are 11 different .dwg files exported into an 11 page PDF, but some of the were exported with different properties. I can search on 4 of them, but the other 7 are unsearchable. I believe my co-worker user Autodesk TrueView to export the .dwg files to PDF. So my question is what program I should use (I believe that TrueView is capable of what I am trying to do, but I'm not sure) and how should I set up the the settings before I export it to PDF. Thanks.

You need to contact Autodesk, almost no one here is likely to be familiar with what Autodesk can or cannot do.

Step2.Row Group has been created. We can see the Group1 in the Row Group Pane.
Right Click on the Group1 column Delete Columns only.

In the Group property, go to Page Break Page Break Option Check the box for “Between each instance of a group” and “at the end of group”.
Right click on the Tablix go to Tablix property. Tablix property windows comes: Check “Add Page break after” and in column header, check “Repeat header columns on each page.”
Step5.After implementing Page Break and Grouping, run the report and export it to PDF.
