Fireworks gradient is 3 ugly strips in preview?

A gradient (#663300  -->  #999999) that looks nice in Fireworks looks like three ugly stripes in preview. (See screen shot below)
What's more, the gradient color appears to have changed the border and type color. The border, in Fireworks, is black with a 20% mesh. The type is supposed to be a gray (#c9c9c9). But in preview (and in the screen shot above), the border and type have a definite reddish tinge to them.
I actually link the border and type color change. But I don't understand why the gradient would affect those areas. I only applied the gradient, and those colors, to the the main content area.
Can anyone tell me how to keep the gradient that I have in Fireworks, rather than ugly blocks I get in preview? And does anyone know why the gradient  affected colors in another area?
Thank you.

A Postscript:  I'm having the same problem with a horizontal gradient. What looks OK in Fireworks looks horrible in preview. Not only is the gradient lost, but the colors in the screenshot aren't even close to what I used in Fireworks. And the image is almost unrecognizable.
Please see before/after screenshots below.

  • Gradient problem in Fireworks

    Hello.
I am having a serious problem with gradients in Fireworks.
The display of every gradient looks like there is not enough
quality so there will be visible stripes that makes it look
insufficient. E.g. a simple box made with the Rectangle tool and a
gradient preset looks like it´s a gif export with way to few
    colors.
I´ve tried three different computers and screens.
I´ve checked my program configuration. I´ve searched the
internet and I can´t find anything or anyone who seems to have
    a similar problem.
I´ve compared it to Photoshop and there it works
    perfectly.
It looks the same in Fireworks it self as it does if I try to
    export JPG - full quality.
All the three computers I´ve tried it on have CS3 on
them. The fourth one though didn´t have this "bug", and that
one had never seen CS3, instead I installed a trial of Macromedia
Fireworks 8 and there it worked perfectly. And two of the computers
I´m trying this on have previously had Fireworks 8 with no
problem at all. But since then I have formatted them and put the
    operating system on from scratch.
Enough of explanation. Has anyone been through something
similar or does anyone have an idea on how to resolve this problem
    of mine?
Every suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Pdf gradients and preview

I generate some pdf with pdflatex that has an pdfimage with a gradient.
Opening the result in Preview the gradient becomes Black while in Adobe Reader it displays very well.
Can I solve this? I really prefer to use Preview

Preview doesn't do as good a job rendering PDF files as Adobe Reader.  About all you can do is to file a feedback report with Apple: Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback.

I like using Firefox on my HTC One S, syncing the browsing history and bookmarks really comes in handy.

  • Aperture Red Eye Adjustments do not show up in preview

I generally use the zoom viewer to make my red eye adjustments; however, when I'm done adjusting and I zoom out, the viewer doesn't reflect the red-eye adjustments. Sometimes the adjustment on one eye will look correct but the other eye is still partially or completely red. When zooming back in, it looks correct.
I recently switched from iPhoto and had never seen this kind of behavior.
Any help would be appreciated, it's driving me kind of nuts.

In List or Grid, the image as you note is generated from the Thumbnail. The Viewer image starts as the Thumbnail blown up and ugly, then the Preview jpg image kicks in. Finally the rendered master/version with all adjustments should replace the Preview. I say should as it might be possible in your case the Preview is not being replaced. Worth checking.

  • Where are the Gradient color presets in CS6?

    Hi,
I've gone from CS4 to CS6 and when using the Gradient tool, there used to be a properties box that you could open with a whole list of preset color gradients to choose from, i used to use the 'Black - White' one all the time, which kinda blurred the edges, made a transparent gradient and allowed, for want of a better word, montages to be created easily, but now this function seems to have gone. Is it hiding somewhere that I don't know about? Or alternatively, can someone advise me on how to get the same effect that the Black White Preset used to give me?
    Thanks a lot
    Jules

Yeah, those gradients are gone in CS6. On the one hand, most of them were pretty cheesy; on the other hand, it's a bit surprising they took away those presets but still didn't offer users a simple way to save gradients.
One way that you can save gradients is as Styles. As an experiment, I actually did this one day for the classic Fireworks gradients. Once created, styles can be saved as a library, where you can call on them from within any FW document.
Another way to quickly create a black and white gradient is by setting the fill and/or stroke colors, which are the basis of gradients. You can reset the default fill and stroke colors within the Tools panel. However, this can be tricky, at times, depending on what objects are selected and what type of fill they already have; it can be easy to accidentally apply a stroke to an object this way. Alternatively, if Stroke is set to None, then setting Fill to Black will result in a black and white gradient when you switch to a gradient Fill type.

  • Preview Images Slow to Load

Hi! I finally got all 70,000 images into aperture and all was well until I decided to move some images from one project to another. Now I get some preview images and lots of grey boxes. If I select an image represented by a grey box, it will load, so the images are okay. It's just ugly that the previews won't load.
    Any ideas?

Guys, you are expecting too much. What you are describing is largely related to your hard drive setup. If you want to handle large batches of images faster you need to address hard drive read/write with things like fast hard drives, RAID 0 and FW 800.
I took delivery on a RAID 0 FW800 drive <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/ME8R7640GB16/> today and after I have used it a while I will report back.

the gradient only is black to white, how can i change this colors?
    Case Study 2:
    - make a rectangule, with a color gradient, ok no problem..
    - but, i like with the stroke, 20 PX, but not with a simple

You can make color gradients for text in Fireworks:

    Another way:
Make two rectangles, one the size of the inside and one that
is 40 px bigger - for example, 250x100 and 290x140.
Align the centers of the rectangles with the smaller one on
    top.
Select both, then combine the paths and punch (my menu is
Modify> Combine Paths > Punch, it is next to Union and
    Intersect)
You can apply a gradient to this object.

  • Using .png images in a website?

Being new'ish to Fireworks and the .png format I am really amazed at the quality of png's in a webpage and how the hold their quality. In web design I tend to like placing text over images and this can often have quality issues as text tends not to work to well with a jpeg unless you increase the resolution before hand.
I have found that while I edit an image in FW and place text over an image if I then save as a jpeg the image may not be as clear as I would like, if I keep it as a .png the quality is perfect.
I know why this is but on doing some research have found that .png's are still not universally used across may web browsers and as a result it is advised not to use them.
Some forums say they are fine while others say the opposite in using 'png's in web design, does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I want to use .png's in my web design instead of jpegs but am undecided from what I read on the Internet so would appreciate any thoughts you may have regarding this.
    Many thanks, Pete.

    On PNG images:
When you "save" from Fireworks, the file contains extra information in the file header which is proprietary to FW. The file will be viewable in a browser, as browsers just ignore the extra information, but the file is larger than is needed for a Web page. To create a .png file for a browser, you want to "export." (I like using the Image Preview function, myself.) There is no difference in the file extension between a fully-editable FW document .png and a flattened exported .png. In a thread some time ago, a poster commented that he gave his Fireworks documents a .fw.png extension, and exported to the plain .png. I've tried to adopt that approach and I find it helps me keep better track of what's what in my folders. It's up to me to remember to do it, though.
Exported PNG images can be 32-bit, 24-bit or 8-bit. Here's the difference:
A 32-bit PNG will represent your FW document with transparency. All the objects will be flattened, of course, but transparent and partially transparent areas will be preserved. The file is 32-bit as you have 8-bits each for red, green, blue, and transparency. Eight bits of data gives you 256 values. (Note: Photoshop calls this a version of the format a 24-bit PNG with transparency.)
A 24-bit PNG does not have transparency. The 24 bits of data are 8-bits (256 values) for red, green, and blue. In this sense, it is similar to a JPEG, although you do not have the data loss or the color shifts.
An 8-bit PNG has 256 colors in a list. In a way, this is similar to a GIF image. The interesting thing about PNG8, however, is that colors in PNG8 in Fireworks can be semi-transparent. In a GIF, you have the option of selecting only one color to be fully transparent.
Using PNG images on the Web
You will want to export to PNG32, PNG24, or PNG8, as appropriate for your needs. Do not overwrite your Fireworks document! If you use Image Preview when exporting slices, and select a .png format, then that setting will be set for that slice. You can't select .png from the Property Inspector.
If you need to support Internet Explorer 6, you can use PNG24 with no problem. IE6 will render any semi-transparent areas of PNG32 or PNG8 images as fully transparent. To support PNG32 in your Web pages on IE6, you need to add special code. Even then, however, your visitors' browsers can lock up under circumstances that are not fully understood (http://blogs.cozi.com/tech/2008/03/transparent-pngs-can-deadlock-ie6.html). If you know your visitors won't be using IE6, or the content in the transparent PNGs is purely decorative, then maybe that's not an issue for you.
Here's a roundup of techniques for using transparent PNGs at Smashing Magazine:
    http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/04/16/getting-creative-with-transparency-in-web-desig n/
    File Size
Choose the best file type for the image you have. No one file type is always better. If you need to support IE6 still, and you can think of how to do your site without transparent PNGs, then the coding will be easier and the cross-browser compatibility will be better. If you use Image Preview (under the File menu item), you can change the quality level for JPEGs. The default level is 80%, which may not be a high enough quality level for a particular image. Higher quality means larger image size, but for photographic elements, a JPEG may still be smaller than a PNG for a given visual quality. It depends on the image content; each image is different.
    Gradients and Banding
Fireworks creates strict numerical interpolations between the two colors you use for your gradients. If the colors are close together, you may not have enough intermediate colors to span the distance you want to cover and you will get bands. Photoshop produces what appear to be smoother gradients, because that application adds subtle noise into the gradient to prevent banding.
    Indexed Palettes
If your image contains more than 256 colors and you select an image format with an indexed palette (GIF or PNG8), you may find that Fireworks produces a palette with fewer than 256 colors. This is a known "feature" of the program and there's no known workaround. If you decide to produce transparent PNG8 images, you need to be aware that this can happen.
And...that's all I can think of that touches on your issues.

  • Scrollbars, artboards, resizing and other minor tweaks offer

I hope Adobe reads these forums, so here i post some bugs to fix, minor tweaks and my personal wishes for Illustrator. I guess many of them are not so hard to fix, but will make Illustrator much better.
    BUGS:
    - fix alt-scroll bug in pixel preview (viewport jumps to unpredicted locations)
    - layers panel becomes black when dragging a layer and scrolling at the same time (and the panel has enough layers to scroll)
    MINOR TWEAKS:
    - recolor artwork on the fly when dragging sliders in the color panel (not after releasing mouse button)
    - option to hide edges of inactive artboards only
    - resize crop areas to both sides (like drawing objects) when pressing alt
    - NORMAL scrollbars
    - in Appearance panel when clicking an eye and dragging mouse down/up toggle visibility of lower/upper items, but not dragging the item (make behavior same as in layers panel)
    - chahge value of numeric fields on hover and drag (not on click and drag, like in Photoshop)
    - when resizing, snap objects to their original size and position even when snapping is turned off
    - not squeeze/streth text when resizing area type
    - make hexadecimal field in color picker dialog 3 pixels wider so that all 6 characters fit in it
    - make status bar remember my choise of what to show
    - undo/redo functionality inside live color dialogue (!!!)
    - in view menu the word "show" shouldn't change for "hide", but a tick should appear/disappear
    - apply gradient by clicking with the gradient tool on an object
    - fonts preview in the drop-down menu in control panel
    - make stop button actually stop the progress when an effect is applying
    WISHES:
    - Photoshop's actions panel
    - right-click menu is really useful why not use it and put more often used commands in there like flip horisontal/ vertical when an arrow tool is active
    - fireworks' pathfinder
    - gradient stroke
    - labeling of crop areas (and possibly everything a slice has)
    - zoom and pan art when a dialogue window is open (like in Photoshop)
Also SVG support back to Bridge.
PS. And make this site usable in Opera. I could type text in this textarea only after disabling all styles for the page.

  • How to export a transparent image  background for the web

    Hi Everyone
I have made a mock up webpage in adobe fireworks 5. I am  now in the process of using the slice tool to cut up the seperate parts and export them to dreamwever.
My question is this: how do i slice the images in such a way that the background is transparent .
Also,  when exporting the image that i have just made trasparent,  what do i need to do to expot it as a transparent background.
    warm regards
    Andreea

When you're ready to transfer your Fireworks layout to DW select FILE > Image Preview. In Options select Format PNG8 and beneath the color grid change the No Transparency dropdown to Alpha Transparency.
Click the Export button, name your file, choose the destination location, and in the dropdowns select Export > HTML and Images, HTML > Export HTML File, Slices > Export Slices, Pages > All Pages. (Also some choices may be handy for you in the Options button including Background Image for the exported file.)
PNG can be used, just as JPG, TIFF, PICT, BMP and GIF, all of which are in your Options > Format dropdown list.
Generally JPG is better for files that have gradients, GIF for simple images and text, but they don't do transparency so the larger PNG file is necessary for that.

  • How to switch Premiere Pro from YUV to RGB

    Hello
First of all, sorry if there are mistakes in my sentences, I'm french. (but I don't want to post in french forums, because I want to improve my english !)
I'm having some problems on Premiere Pro.
Indeed, I have many shots on After Effects that looks good...
But strangely, when I import them in Premiere, they turn into a mess : there are ugly "strips" that appears...
From what I was told, that quality loss is due to a difference between Premiere Pro and After Effects colorspaces : After Effect is RGB, as Premiere Pro is YUV.
So now, what I'm trying to do is to switch Premiere Pro from YUV to RGB.
Does anybody know how I can do this ? I looked into "Sequence Settings" and "Media" (export) windows, but unfortunately I couldn't find any form allowing me to make that change...
If someone can help me, I would be grateful to him
Thank you for your attention !
    Kind regards,

  • Drop Down Menu not functioning

I'm very VERY new to dreamweaver/fireworks but have been making small changes to multipul websites for a company. They have asked me to come up with a totally new design for their primary webpage and I'm having an issue with the drop-down menu.
I'm created the menu in fireworks using the hotspot tool and it "previews" just fine in both fireworks and dreamweaver. I went through the export process in fireworks and exported the hotspots/images and html code into my primary folder for the website. I pasted the html-code in the location that I wanted on the webpage.
When I upload the page and go to view it the drop-down-menu does not function properly. I have to add an <div> after my .jpg banner for the images of the dropdown to appear. Even then the pull-down-menu does not show up properly.
*Side note* the page also loads VERY SLOWLY now, not sure why. In an attempt to start over I access the "remote view" of the webpage through dreamweaver and deleted all but the "Admin" folder which it did not allow me to delete? Did I majorly mess something up here?

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you in advance

Firstly, the link to the imported stylesheet is wrong - it appears to be pointing to your hard drive:  that needs to be fixed and if it relates to the menu, likely the reason why the menu isn't visible.
    @import url("../../../../../../../../S|/All Users Documents/Graphics/Chris/Greater Michigan PMC/indexpulldown.css");
Are you working in a defined DW site?  It's very important that you are - it's the way that DW keeps track of all the links and paths.
    Define a site:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/140/tn_14028.html
Next:  Those FWs exported dropdowns are atrocious, there was a reason the functionality was removed from the latest FWs and DW.   Even though a CSS version is available, it may be ok to use for protyping for certainly not for live production sites.
POP UP MENUS - why not to use them:

There are much better ways to build a dropdown menu, one of them is the Spry Menu available in CS3 and CS4.  They too, can cause issues, but at least the links throughout your site are inside the html code, not in the javascript.
Spry  Menus: - already included with CS4

    As for this:
*Side note* the page also loads VERY SLOWLY
now, not sure why. In an attempt to start over I access the "remote
view" of the webpage through dreamweaver and deleted all but the
"Admin" folder which it did not allow me to delete? Did I majorly mess
    something up here?
I'm not really sure what you mean and which folders you deleted from where  ;-)
