Fireworks ignores my actions

Dear,
I'm using Adobe CS3 now for one year, never had problems. From yesterday ignores fireworks various commands like rotate, resize, free transform and gradiants too! Sometimes the cursor stay flashing when i'm finished with placing the text and can't edit it after.
I've reinstalled my Fireworks but it doesn't matter. Is there a way to FULLY reinstall the application, including user settings and extentions?
This is very annoying... I can't work fine now. Thanks
(Sorry, if it's bad english.. I'm a dutch student)

I've deleted the Fireworks directory in App Data, but it doens't matter. I see this error when i try to rotate or resize something..
What's wrong?

Can CUP be configured to ignore Critical Action risks during SOD analysis?

We have configured our CUP workflow to take a detour path if SOD violations are found at a stage. RAR has Critical actions defined in the rule set. When CUP performs the SOD analysis, is there any way we can skip critical action risks and consider only SOD risks?

If the critical action activated in the same rule set, than you have to define a mitigation control as well, because CUP is going to show these risk after a risk analysis and you have to mitigate that. There is no possiblity to skip that.
Possible solutions:
If you want these risks (critical actions) just for reporting aspects in RAR, than you should maybe create a new ruleset just only for these risks, and deactivate it, on the Global ruleset... I wouldn't recommend that, because, if you are going to define critical actions, you have to define mitigation control, from the security aspects as well.

Automation plugin as action and via File/Automate

Hi,
I have an Automation plugin that is scriptable (it has a number of exposed scriptable parameters and can be recorded and run from Actions palette). The plugin displayes the UI when it is called interactively (from File/Automate).
I am however having troubles distinguishing when it is called from an Action palette as a playback of recorded action and when it actually was called interactively from File/Automate (testing it in Photoshop CS6). On plugin invocation I check passed action descriptor and if not empty, read parameters from it and don't show the UI. On the call end, I write script parameters back to a descriptor to be able to use them in recorded action. With this in mind, after PS start first time selecting File/Automate works as expected - no descriptor/parameters passed into the plugin. But after a first call, Photoshop seems to keep the descriptor/parameters written at the end of the plugin and passes it on subsequent user invoked File/Automate. The same happens if plugin is getting called from a recorded action playback (and its expected). Basically after a first invocaction, the plugin will always receive action descriptor whether it called from an action playback or invoked by user.
I need to distinguish these two cases and basically present UI/start from scratch when user invokes it and use the passed action parameters when action plays it. I have not found anything in SDK to point me to the solution so I'd appreciate the help.
In filter plugins I can at least get selector start when invoked from UI and use that to free/ignore the action descriptor data.

I don't think you should care. The option you do care about is this one:
PIDialogPlayOptions playInfo
That is part of PIActionParameters *actionParameters
That is part of your PSActionsPlugInMessage that comes into your automation plugin entrypoint.
This parameter has three options:
a) always display the dialog,
b) only display the dialog if you don't like the parameters you are given,
c) never display a dialog (either return an error or proceed with best options but don't stop with a dialog)
From the file menu, user selected, you should get option a (always). From the actions panel you should get option a or b. From scripting you can get all three options.
There is also a property in PIProperties.h called propPlayInProgress but the above information should be what you need to do the correct thing with dialogs.

Printing to PDF in Fireworks

I've seen some posts about printing in Fireworks over the years and none of them have been resolved. Here's trying again.
What is the correct solution for exporting to PDF format from Fireworks and retaining print resolution? I have a document at 300 dpi, 8.5 x 11, with the hope of it printing on a normal sized piece of paper. When I export to PDF, it is about 4 times larger than the 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. When I give people that PDF, they try to print it and get just a small portion of the image that covers the whole piece of paper. The same thing happens when you try to print directly from Fireworks, it's way too large for the print size. Apparently, Fireworks ignores print size dimensions.
Other than the obvious solution of not using Fireworks when you want to create something for print, what is a good workaround? Surely others have been as dumb as me and tried to use Fireworks for print materials. What workarounds are there? Keep in mind, the solutions I've seen from others - such print at 72 dpi and have it look bad, are not an option. Do I really have to try to bring it into Illustrator or InDesign to print or is there a way to do this in Fireworks, or possibly Acrobat Pro (which I have)? I can force Acrobat Pro to print it at the correct size, but that doesn't help others who I send this to when they go to print it.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm using kdemod and had the same error message when opening print preview. Installing kdemod-kdegraphics-kghostview did help there. But i doubt it will help with your fonts problem.

Disk utility won't erase a dvd-rw

i want to erase my dvd-rw and when i go to disk utility and click "completely erase" the status bar says "preparing the drive" and then "waiting for drive" and right after that a window pops up saying that i've just inserted a blank dvd, and it asks what option i want. (eject, ignore, ok;action) and the dvd doesn't get erased. any help is greatly appreciated

I am experiencing a similar problem. I have recently erased several CD RWs with Toast & Firestarter. Suddenly yesterday I try to burn a disc, but the only option showing in Disk Utility under Optiarc is The Erase section, stating "Waiting For A Disc To Be Inserted". (No First Aid, Raid, Partition sectors showing). Now, I have just erased about 10 discs but the Erase section is static. It's like it's on a loop, expecting all discs loaded to be erased. Normal CDs are rejected, but DVDs are just fine. Restarting doesn't help. Is this something that you were experiencing and have you found an answer yet.

Why can't I access my button click method??

I have had this problem a couple of times now and I do not understand what is happening. Here is what is happening.
1) I have a login menu screen - user logs in OK.
2) User directed to another screen where user selects option
3) User directed to a third screen where the user selects a name from a list.
(this part below used to work, now it does not)
4) User double clicks on name in list
5) Javascript presses "select button" and is directed to the selectBut_action()
method in the page Java code.
For some reason, I cannot access the selectBut_action() method now and I do not understand why.
I also have a "select" button that accesses the "selectBut_action() method.
Here is the relevant portion of the page JSP code.

</script>I placed the alert("Double click"); in the javascript just to make sure it is being executed. It is, but the next line no longer accesses selectBut_action().
What is really irritating is that this exact code used to work. I started binding some other variables to session bean properties and it stopped working.
Here is the "selectBut_action()" method from the Java code for the page

The IDs are correct. I did not try any of the other suggestions.
I did find out what caused it, but do not know why it behaved as it did.
I resolved the problem by removing the parameter I had bound to the 'selected' field of a drop down menu.
I was hoping to be able to use that to preset the dropdown to the desired item.
So it appears that the cause was an illegal or invalid binding.
It seems a rather peculiar behavior to ignore the action methods instead of posting some meaningless error message with traceback calls through the bowels of jsf like they normally do.

ORA-00911 invalid character
Cause: Special characters are valid only in certain places. If special characters other than $, _, and # are used in a name and the name is not enclosed in double quotation marks (�), this message will be issued. One exception to this rule is for database names; in this case, double quotes are stripped out and ignored.
Action: Remove the invalid character from the statement or enclose the object name in double quotation marks.
So, I think you problem is a semicolon at then end of your query.

In my opinion, there are three serious problems with Layout
Mode -
1. Perhaps most importantly, it sits between you and *real*
HTML tables,
and fools you into believing that concepts like "layout cell"
and
"autostretch" really mean something. They do not. As long as
you use
Layout Mode, you'll never learn one of the most important
things for new web
developers - how to build solid and reliable tables.
2. Actually, #1 wouldn't be *so* bad, except that the code
that is written
by Layout Mode is really poor code. For example, a layout
table contains
MANY empty rows of cells. This can contribute to a table's
instability.
In addition, if your initial positioning of the table's cells
is a bit
complex,
Layout Mode will throw in col- and rowspans aplenty as it
merges and splits
cells willy-nillly to achieve the pixel-perfect layout you
have specified.
Again,
this is an extremely poor method for building stable tables,
because it
allows
changes in one tiny cell's shape (i.e, dimensions) to ripple
through the
rest
of the table, usually with unexpected and sometimes
disastrous consequences.

unsuspecting user

Recommended structure of database-backed JSF app.

I'm learning how to put together a web application using JSF 2.0, Spring and hibernate. I've done a lot of reading on various sites on the 'right' way to do it, and I think I've got the right idea, but I just want to check that I've understood it correctly. (Of course this is more about the structure rather than any specific implementation.)
Here's what seems to be the case:
Hibernate is configured via spring.
POJOs for any persistent entities are mapped to hibernate via annotations (or xml), containing only trivial getters & setters. These methods are never accesses directly by JSF (i.e. these are not managed beans)
Each of these entities has a DAO that does create, read, update, delete (or whatever). These take only object ids (or other identifiers) for reads or entity objects for the other ones, i.e. they don't access all the setters of the POJOs. (As such, can be made generic to reduce code duplication.)
Optionally, each DAO can have a service object that presents the various database operations to the next layer, possibly performing checks and grouping operations together.
Via spring, the service objects are accessible to the JSF beans (or pages).
Now, suppose a simple use case where a user is entering a new record to the database via a web form. The JSF managed bean will be a POJO mirroring all the fields of the relevant entity bean (but not actually be an instance of one). These fields will be bound to the input fields of the form, and if they pass validation, the action (a method of the JSF managed bean) will create a new instance of the entity bean, copy all of its own field into this using its setters, then persist the newly created object with the service object (made available by spring).
Displaying a previously persisted bean would be a similar process in reverse; the JSF managed bean would read an entity bean from the service object, load all its own fields using the getters from the loaded entity bean, then populate the page with these values.
(Obviously this is a very simple case, I imagine there would be cases where the two beans would differ a bit, or perhaps more than simple get/set methods would be used, but I'm just starting out here)
Is this about right? It seems odd to me that one would duplicate all the fields. It should be possible to make the beans do a dual duty, acting as both the entity bean and the JSF managed bean. Hibernate would simply ignore any action methods, and presumably such cases are what the @transient annotation is for.
You'd end up with a single class that has both hibernate and JSF annotations on it.
Is that right?

2 troubles with iPhoto + NAS

Hello!
I have two problems appeared after moving my iPhoto Library to NAS:
1. It does not import photos from my camera. After opening up previews and selecting "Import All" iPhoto hangs on "Preparing to import". It does not seems to be completely hung, as Force Quit does not show it as "Not Responding", but it ignores any actions.
2. When I select to show random images from iPhoto Library as a desktop wallpaper, it does not show anything at all. If I choose any exact image - everything is ok.
Of course, I have my network disc mounted.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto does not behave properly when not on an OS X Extended formatted hard drive. It's the nature of the beast. Continued use of the library on that server will give it a good chance of getting corrupted with a loss of your organizational effort, i.e. albums, keywords, slideshows, etc.
Change the disk format to OS X Extended, ignore ownership on it, connect it to one of the Macs and all Macs on the network will be able to use the library and it will work as expected regarding desktop images, etc.

Calling a servlet

Writing action="/login" or "../login" doesn't work.
Ignoring the action makes some jumps to previous servlets

I'm fairly sure you have to reference the context because without it /login equates to the directory login in the root of your web site.

Wizard control trigger transition

Hi,
I encountered a problem with the Wizard Control of VC7.1 SP4
I have a wizard with several steps which are shown as numbers in the upper wizard bar in the correct order. If I trigger a transition from step 1 to step 3 the wizard bar now only shows the numbers 1 and 3. After a transition to from step 3 to step 2, the wizard bar shows the steps in the order 1 3 2.
Is this a bug? Where is the correct place to report VC bugs? There are some more VC controls with odd behavior which should be fixed in the next service pack.

Did you use actions to switch between the wizard steps?
If so, this may be the reason.
The wizard road-map (the numbers on the top), are calculated when the wizard is drawn on the screen for the first time.
However, this calculation is done only according to the default transition lines and ignores transition actions.
So if there are no transition lines, the road-map will show only steps the user has already visited.
To fix that, you need to connect the steps with default transition lines in the order you wish them to appear. The transition lines don't have to do anything, just be there so the default route will be calculated correctly.
I have created two screenshots that will help you find how to create transitin lines and how to select which is the default transition (in case you have more than one transition form a single step):

Batch Command Freezes up CS5

Suddenly, when I use the batch command, CS5 freezes up and has to be closed using alt-ctrl-delete. I've been using the command for a long time with no problems. All the other commands under the "Automate" line work. I reinstalled CS5, and it appeared to fix the problem. However, when I scanned a BUNCH of photos, and went to use the command, it froze again. Any ideas?

Ok since I got some free time, I updated to 12.0.4 again, with reallocating the temp path.
The freezing bug is still there, and it's still creating those .mvm file(1-14 inside the C:Temp. and 15 at the root of E). Since http://forums.adobe.com/thread/747353 is still discussing this issue, I'll leave it for a while.
With the update, my selection issue is also remaining there, I'd like to talk about it, since it's not only happnening to selection or magic tool, but to any tools involving moving cursor.

I'll save myself the trouble of describing since the above posts have done it really well. And their fixes do not apply to me.
What I could add to this:
1) Regarding the selection tool, this issue mostly happens after I move my cursor, and once it's "activated", I could just click like hell without moving my mouse at all, while creating a crazy record of below( simply caused by clicking mouse, which

But if I simply open PS, and start clicking on the picture with selection tool, keeping my mouse from moving in the first place, then usually I can't duplicate this issue.
2) Also, the issue will also occur if I move my mouse and click, but we could get some hint if we duplicate it this way.The unintended selection caused by this issue, which we take rectangular selection for example, will have a corner at the place where I ever put my cursor at. So from my point of view, it's like photoshop is ignoring my action, which is releasing the left button. For PS, I first move my mouse to point A, pushing left button down, (igored)releasing left button(ignored), moving mouse to point B,and a new unintended selection! Though this pattern only occurs sometimes of the issue, but it might hold some word.
3) As I keep testing, the easiest way to duplicate the issue is to move my mouse for a long distance and click, opposed to rapid small displacement and click.Well not that useful.
4) The way I deal with it now, is to endure it. I keep reselecting and usually the issue will disappear for a while, and come back at unknown future. I tried changing my mouse/graphic card/memory, as well as their drivers, ended up no fixing.
Any idea on this, Noel?

Some Internet hypertext links or pop-ups not reacting

Hi,
Please, please I really need some help. I am about to throw Windows Vista and my Toshiba out the window!!
For whatever reason some internet links that I try and click on - from trusted sights just don't work - I get absolutely no reaction from my PC - it does not even say not-responding, it is almost as if it has ignored my action of clicking on the link. When I try the same exercise on another machine using Windows XP it works fine.
Similarly Ithe pop-up to allow me to load photographs at blogspot.com just ignores the fact that I have clicked on it.
I have trawled through all the security options. Changed each one and tried again, unfortunately I have not had any success. Has anyone out there got any ideas? I would be most grateful.

This issue is understandable and there is definitely not a kind of magic solution. If you wrote about some pages how we should understand your problem.
Can you please send the link of those famous pages? I would like to test it with my notebooks (Vista and WXP).
