Fireworks in dreamwaver

I have exported a Fireworks html of buttons with rollovers
into Dreamweaver. When I review this in my browser, my rollovers
appear quite a distance from the button position. I have checked
this several times in the editor, and have selected the immediately
under position. Any help please.

Fireworks is graphics editing software (as you know) and not
web page
coding software. As such, it can write some pretty awful
HTML/JavaScript
code. You are better off exporting your image states from
Fireworks,
then use Dreamweaver to create the rollovers, use a high
quality menu
extension such as those from ProjectSeven.com, or hand-code
your own.
FYI - a URL to your page so we can see will always get you
more complete

  • How do I create a web mock-up using Full Width Photo's

    Greetings & Help!
I'm trying to create a full width photo layout using
Fireworks CS3 & Dreamwaver CS3 without the photo's being tall.
Exactly as the following websites - which all seem to be
using the same size of photo or very close to it.
This site is static with full width photos that are not tall.
    http://www.jenniferhandyproperties.com/selling
This site is static for the most part and full width photos
    that are not tall
    http://www.gnvpartners.com/web/
This site is Flash with full width photos that are not tall.
    expodesigncenter
I would love to create a flash site just like expo but at
this point I would settle for a static photo with the same size
being the same on each page.
Also I would like my site to be a liquid layout so the photo
and everything else (text, Links etc) on the page flows correctly.
    The problem...
I'm trying to use photo's from Istockphoto.com. The size of
    the photo's they offer are
    425 x 282 px (5.9" x 3.9")
    849 x 565 px (11.8" x 7.8")
    1698 x 1131 px (5.7" x 3.8")
I'm selecting horizontal photo's. I do not know how to match
the same width, height and appearence as the websites I mentioned
    above.
If I choose a photo that fits the width then the length is
too long. Also if I choose a large photo and have to crop it then
most of the detail of the photo is lost.
I'm attempting to create a mock-up for my web in Fireworks
CS3 and after search Adobe and www I came across the mock up should
be 1004px which would end up being 1024 with vertical scroll bar
    and small margins.
I also have Photoshop & Flash CS3 but should mention (if
you haven't already guess it by now) I am a rookie when it comes to
    creating a website.
So if you can offer a solution in "Non-Tech Terms" I would
    appreciate it.
Thank you in advance for your time.

    Hi Pixlor -
I'll do my best to answer your questions - within my ability
    - which isn't much.
As far as "Tile" the photo - I've checked out the responces
I've received from other's on this post - and other posts - and on
each page for the "masthead" I just want one photo to be the same
size of the page width wize - and the height of the photo should
not be tall from the top of the masthead to the bottom of the
masthead. As far as what I mean by "not being Tall" - see next
    comment...
I'm just attempting to duplicate exactly (or very close to
it) the same appearence and dimensions - "Width = side-to-side,
Tall = Height - as the websites I mentioned in my first post here.
Also if you check out Joey's website (who responded to my
post as well) basicly he has created the same thing that I'm
shooting for except he is using graphics. I have to use photos in
my masthead which will be of kitchen cabinetry or construction
photo's and must highlight every detail down to the shine of the
kitchen cabinets knobs - or close to it.
Due to this I can not have the photos of the masthead "tile"
from "width-to-width or top-to-bottom because the deatils in the
photo can not repeat or multiply to completely fill the masthead
head. Otherwize if I choose a photo of kitchen cabinetry which
highlights a kitchen sink - and if I tile this photo - from what
I'm learning from everyones responce thus far - I'll end up with
several of the same kitchen sinks and cabinets in the same photo.
I must stress I could be wrong in what I described directly
above due to my lack of tech knowledge! If this post was about a
2x4 or 2x6 or Green Building or what have you, It would be heck of
alot easier for me to completely understand what you pro's are
trying to help me with - which I completely appreaciate. Expecially
someone like you who owns a monitor the size of one of my work
    trucks!
Which brings me to your next question...
    Liquid layout -
Yes I am trying to end up with a liquid layout for my website
using Dreamweaver CS3. Hopefully using one of the pre-built liquid
layouts in Dreamweaver and modify it within my ability.
The main reason why I would like to create a liquid layout is
because most others construction firms in my industry - and in my
target market - have websites that completely consume a viewers
monitor - viewport - screen real estate - (i'm trying to learn your
tech terms) no matter what size viewport a viewer has, or how the
    viewer resizes theirs.
I've also heard that a "Min & Max" code can be included
in a liquid layout so that it would limit the "liquidness" of the
layout so "Text Lines" won't stretch too long making it difficult
to read when a viewport size extends - and when the viewport shinks
    - all the elements (or Div's) will reflow an maintain order and
    visability.
    1004 -
The only reason why I mentioned designing the Fireworks CS3
mock-up at a 1004 is because someone else mentioned they design
their mock-ups at a "Canvas Size" of 1004. Then most browsers
automaticly inlclude a scroll bar if the vertical content exceeds
below "The Fold". Thus with the addition of the automatic scroll
bar the page now becomes 1024 - according to this person.
She went on to mention according to "recent studies" - 56% of
viewers have 1024 x 768 and most computer manufacturs shipp them
this way. Then the following stats... 22% at 800 x 600, then 13% at
    1280 x 1024, then 3% at 1152 x 864, then 1% at 1580 x 1129. She
also mentions most avearge viewers (every day Dick & Jane, Bob
& Besty) (excluding computer tech folks like yourself) - do not
resize - bother with - or know how to resize their viewport.
My personal note on this is most of my target market -
clients - just turn on their computer and surfs the net from
website to website without changing their viewport and when also
asked they "Feel" that a website looks much better - or more
profeshional - when the content completely fills up an entire
    viewport.
    "Feel - not - Think" -
Keep in mind I choose the word "Feel" & not "Think". In
my target market - Residential Construction - 95% of home
improvement decisions are made my the Woman of the houshold - not
the Man. That being in mind it is a proven stat (and not a sexest
comment) that women base most of their choices or decsions on how
something makes them "Feel". Where as most men make their choice or
    decision on how they "Think".
Also most men attempt to keep their women happy and knowing
that if they don't then they will end up in the doghouse - ( not a
fun place to be trust me on this) and in addition most men do not
have much of a clue when it comes to the interior design layout of
a home, matching of paint colors, appliance choices or what have
    you.
Wow that was a major side track I took -
    Back to 1004 -
It's not that I'm intend in designing the mock-up in
Fireworks at 1004 - I just want to end up wth a liquid layout so
when my site is viewed by "most people" then my site will
completely consume a viewers viewport - or very close to it.
If I need to design the mock-up less then 1004 - or more then
    - and still be able to end up with the same end result in a liquid
    form - so be it.
I don't know the best way to proceed -
I'm just attempting to learn from others who respond and for
the most part those who have been kind enough and taken the time to
respond seem to be very knowlegeable about my issue at hand.
You might find this hard to believe but I am learning quite a
bit from all of you and I really do appreaciate it.
Well now that this responce is as long as the novel "War
    & Peace" - I'll close here.

  • Illustrator cs4 start up error

Hi, i just got Adobe master collection cs4 i installed the application that i needed(Dreamwaver, fireworks, flash, illustrator, photoshop , indesign and AIR).
The install run just fine but when i start Illustrator i got the following error:
"The Localized resource files for this application could not be loaded. Please re-install or repair the application" i did 4 re-install of illustrator still getting the same error.
I also get it on fireworks and Dreamwaver but the rest are working just fine.
    here a my pc spec:
    Win 7 ultimate
    3gb ram
    ati radeon x1650
    250gb hard
    Pentium D dual core
any help would be welcome. thanks

To what langauge was your system set when you installed, what language did you choose in the Adobe installer and which language do you use now? Missing language packs are most often caused by a mishmahs on that end. That aside, I hope you are aware that you are running on an unsupported configuration. Pentium D does not meet the minimum system requirements for CS4 and Windows 7 on such an old hardware certainly adds anotehr layer of complication, so anything is possible. In any case, check the language settings and run the apps as administrator to see if it makes any difference.

  • Update Fireworks menu links in Dreamwaver

    Hello :
I posted a topic in forum regarding update links in
Dreamwaver (DW 8). From the reply community experts suggested that
Fireworks menu should not be used in DW template.
In another forum post - titled "dreamweaver template",
another community expert said submenus based on JavaScript will not
work in DW template. "- these will not work in a dw template
    without some editing to make
the paths be site root relative or better, absolute paths."
I manually updated the links(links in pup-up menu imported
from FW ) in templaged-based pages. Is there an easy way to work
with? Please share your experience and approach to this problem
    with me. Thanks!
Here is my code segment for pup-up menus:
By menually update I will menually enter actual links in a

    > Is there an easy way to work with?
No. You are sure to become frustrated with these menus.
Nobody here recommends or suggests that you use them.
There are much better menu approaches -

  • Graphics for dreamwaver

    Hi,
I am currently learning Dreamwaver and I would like to know what's the best and easiest adobe program to use to prepare graphics for my sites.
    Thanks.

My main reason for using PS over FW most of the time (not alaways) is that I have about $800 worth of filters and plugins that are not compatible with FW. Things like several Flaming Pear filters and Alien Skin's Eye Candy stuff.
Yep... that would be another reason for my not switching.  I have the Eye Candy plug in as well!  Have to see what the Flaming Pears are all about!    I also have a huge amount of investment in PhotoShop courses, NAPP membership, etc.  I guess I feel that there are so many effects that I can do with PhotoShop, that I love the application!  I can always take an image and re-optimize in FireWorks.
Which brings us back to the initial question... it is worth the investment in the Web suite if you are going to be doing Web design.  Then you can use which ever application does whichever job you need it to do.
I also highly recommend taking courses, if you want to become a Web designer.  I think I've seen Murray has mentioned that in previous posts.

  • Why Fireworks?

I am learning Photoshop for the web and was moving to Dreamweaver tutorials.
I do not understand why one needs Fireworks. Why do you need to build a prototype of a site, if you can move directly from PShop to Dreamwaver?
    Thanks.

Jim, Pixlor: Okay, I see what you mean about people expecting Fireworks to convert the site well and why Adobe calls it prototyping. In that case Photoshop and Fireworks can both prototype so Adobe should stop making confusing claims. Fireworks is an excellent design software first - anything else that it additionally offers are bonuses.
Pendue: Dreamweaver doesn't really "do the rest", you still need to learn HTML and CSS to create professional websites - Dreamweaver does help (like a lot of other website development software) but you need to help yourself by learning to code websites a little - its not that tough and is amazingly interesting :-) I can see that you were searching for reasons why Fireworks can be used and when. Well there are several reasons one of which I was trying to highlight and it got lost in the whole scenario about prototyping. Fireworks is a vector based design software that was made for web design because it renders as for the web. It also rivals illustrator when it comes to graphic design and is better when it comes to designing graphics and vectors for the web because of its pixel perfect vector control. Its not great for photo manipulation and comes nothing close to what Photoshop has in the special effects department. But there are some pretty good reasons to use it in tandem with Photoshop.
    A)  Fireworks is easy to use and not as complicated as Photoshop. Hard to admit but I've tried using Photoshop in the past 6 years occasionally to design a complete website but every-time I'm stumped by why its so difficult to work with. To name a few:
Vectors are not vectors but masked layers. Duh?! Beats me why Adobe never used the drawing capabilities of Illustrator in Photoshop?
You can't click and select a visible item. You need to click its layer, super weird. Especially when you have a couple of hundred layers - boy are u lost. Comparatively Fireworks can not only select any visible item on clicking but you can even select items hidden behind other items using the "Select Behind Tool". In PS you never know what is selected but in FW the selection can be visibly discerned.
Gradients are difficult to manipulate in PS. In Fireworks they are easy to use and you can visually manipulate them easily with the Gradient handles that appear.
Some simple filters that are non-destructive in FW are destructive in PS. For example Convert to Alpha.
Neither stroke nor fill can be given without popping a panel. Shouldn't it be visible and changeable with an eye-dropper by instinct.
Undo steps (Ctrl-z) is just 2. Super weird. You need to use history panel constantly.
Subselection and moving of grouped items not possible without ungrouping and selecting layer.
In short: Photoshop requires too many steps for too many tasks.
    B) Vector shapes and manipulation are too basic - check out the autoshapes in Fireworks - they make your job so easy. Especially the ease with which you can change properties like roundness, sides, corner type, etc. whenever you want. And in PS you can't do any sort of multiple vectors manipulation. In FW you just need to click and drag with the sub-selection tool to select any number of points belonging to any number of vectors in the area selected. Its a must to try out the Path Panel features and the advanced autoshapes in the Shapes panel to see its unique features (sorry too many to discuss). The reason I have put the vector capability as a separate point is because a huge part of website design involves drawing shapes which should preferably be vectors. The more you learn website design the more you'll get the hang of creating amazing high-impact designs built with dozens of subtle tiny effects - that's what Web 2.0 design is all about - subtlety and elegance.
    C) Control over your elements is amazing in Fireworks - You have everything at your fingertips the dimensions, the positions, effects, color, stroke, you name it: mostly everything is right there for you to see in the properties panel. If you seek pixel perfection FW is the perfect tool. Finally: Slicing, optimizing and exporting your images is extremely easy (easier than PS if I dare say).
    Hope this helps.
    - Anita
Important note to the other expert designers - I hope I haven't been too critical of Photoshop - I know most designers use Photoshop with élan. I really would love to love Photoshop but I find it so difficult to get along with ;-) and so I use it only for creating photo effects and jazzy backgrounds. I guess rapidly designing in Fireworks for 11 years has made me a bit impatient with PS. I tried reading dozens of tutorials in futility and I've never been good at using or remembering shortcuts.  If I've made errors in the points above please point them out.

  • Adobe Bridge Buttons in Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks?

    Hello,
Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in
every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other
Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I
missing it, or is this a glitch?
    Thanks,
    Dylan

Go to Edit > Prefs > Enable Version Cue. Once you do
that look in the lower left corner of the flash
application - you should see "Open" with an arrow. Clicking
on it will popup "Reveal in Bridge" button.

  • Imported Fireworks Nav Bar Animation Looping

    Hi
I have imported a navigation bar I made in fireworks into dreamweaver and when I preview in browser it keeps looping. In fireworks I added a rollover effect so that when you rollover each bit of text, e.g. home, contact, games  it goes bold, and when previewing it loops so they all keep going bold without my control. In Fireworks I made it using slices and several states, and so just when I rollover state one it changes to state 2 for example. Very simple, but it keeps looping, how can I stop this? Thanks. I have attached the png file for fireworks if you need to take a look.

    Hi
You do not require the fireworks/javascript to achieve the effect you require for your links.
This effect can be made using simple css a:link, (visited, hover, active) statements, I would also recommend using css to style your page and not tables/image slices .
For the css links, see - http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_link.asp and http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/css/css-navigation-menu.shtml.
Moving from tables based design to css based - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/table_to_css_pt1.html.

  • Photo Gallery in Dreamweaver using Fireworks

How do I add images to a photo gallery that I created in
Dreamweaver using Fireworks? I created a photo gallery and I
changed my background color and other settings, but I need to find
any easier way to add images without messing up my settings. Each
time I add a photo, I don't want to have to change 40+ web pages.
Can someone please help? If there is an easier program to use, then
    I will change programs.
    Thanks for your help!

Sorry in advance if the following comment is missing the
    point of your question.
Ans: You need to export (>File > Export) the image that
you have manipulated in Fireworks to an images folder in your
dreamweaver website. You will be prompted for an optimum file
output (JPEG, GIF etc) during this process. Then close Fireworks
and open DW. Then place your curser at the point in the webpage
where you want to insert the image and then select Menu > Insert
    > Image. Browse to the image that you have created in Fireworks
and press enter. Job done! Fireworks is a fantastic s/w application
... and there's no need to look elsewhere.

  • New to flash and fireworks

I've worked with frontpage and dreamweaver on simple
websites. Now I want to publish pictures to my site. My problem is
tht I want to install a picture a a hair style. I want to display
the front and bsvk of the style. Which do I use(Flash of Fireworks)
to make it when you drag your mouse across the picture that it
turns from front to back? Thanks in advance for your help.

You could use Either. With Flash you could create a movie
    with two frames,
one for each image and create a mouseover effect.
Alternative you could use Fireworks, create the two images,
    then load them
into DW and add a swap image behaviour to them.

  • Flash and Fireworks animations

So I am building a website for myself and I want to put a flash animation in. After the animation comes in, more links will appear on top of the animation after it stops moving and stays stationary. I am wondering what I need to do to get this to function correctly between flash, fireworks and dreamweaver.
Do I build the animation, layout the rest of the site in FW, and then put it altogether in DW?
If so, how would I put a SWF in front of the FW layout in DW? (Because that needs to be on top)
Thank you so very much for the help!

Import graphics from FW into FL and create your animation there. Then publish and place the SWF in a page in DW.

  • Flash and Fireworks combination

Macromedia MX: I am working on an image in Fireworks and
would like to incorporate a flash movie into this image so that I
can put it into Dreamweaver for my website. A quick example of the
image is a square inside a square (kinda like a TV set). Is there a
way to layer the Flash movie into the Fireworks image so that the
Flash movie plays inside the inner square but is not visible on the
outer square? (since it would overlap somewhat) Would I import the
image from Fireworks to Flash and work on it there, or import the
Fireworks image into Dreamweaver and insert the Flash movie there?
I am not sure how to go about this task. Thanks for any
    suggestions.

    P-C-Surgeonz;
You can't "layer"a flash swf into an image, but you can
    "insert" the
image and flash into your html separately using
    dreamweaver--but IMO
importing the png fireworks png into flash, and just
    embedding the flash is
    easier. -Tom Unger
