Fireworks issue

I use dw 8 and want to create a web photo album but
every time I do it says I need fireworks 4 or above- I have
fireworks CS3 so whats going wrong- any ideas very welcome

DW8 predates FWCS3, so it doesn't recognize it as FW. Have
you scanned
through the Adobe tech notes?
Would you consider some other photo album? Picassa from
Google is a nice,
free app. And if you are willing to go commercial, I have
used
ImageGalleryMagic from PVII on several sites, and find it
fabulous -

  • DW CS4 quits unexpectedly - Fireworks issue?

    Greetings,
I am using DW CS4 build 4117 on a mac pro with OS X 10.5.7
On about four occasions over the last week, DW quits unexpectedly and it doesn't seem to be related to anything in particular.  It can just be sitting there idle.  Have tried deleting the user cache file, which some forum posts suggest can get corrupted and cause problems.  The crash report always contains a reference to dreamweaver and ImageManipulator:Clipboard at Thread 1, and then at Thread 0 when the crash occurs there is a reference to Fireworks setting the image source from the clipboard (below).  Fireworks is not even running.
I am not an expert on decipering crash reports and an sort of new to the mac in general, so any help or insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
    thanks!
    - Gregg
    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0   Fireworks                         0x04cde9b1 FWImaging::SetSourceImageFromClipboard(unsigned short**, unsigned long&) + 735 (FWImaging.cpp:1016)
    1   com.adobe.dreamweaver-10.0        0x00954986 ImageManipulator::ClipboardContainsImageData() + 62
    2   com.adobe.dreamweaver-10.0        0x0041b495 JSObjDreamweaver::canClipPaste(JSContext*, JSObject*, unsigned int, long*, long*) + 163

Wanted to provide an update on what I have noticed since the original post.
I tried upgrading to Snow Leopard but that was a complete disaster as virtually nothing was stable.  There was the usual finger-pointing by both Adobe and Apple, but that's another issue.
I ended up having to completely wipe the drive and do a clean install of OS X 10.5.8.  So what I have now is an almost-new Mac Pro with virtually nothing on it except the Adobe Master Collection and some printer drivers.
And here's what I've noticed about the problem with Dreamweaver quitting unexpectedly:
It happens after I have inserted a thumbnail image into a table cell and then modify the image with Photoshop.  I always know when the crash is about to occur because of the way the scrollbars begin to behave.
So for example, I may insert an image that is 250x160, make a link to it, add a border, etc., and everything is great.
Then I decide to crop the image to 250x150 and do so in Photoshop. Dreamweaver will then begin show a latency in almost any menu action.  The scrollbars slow...to...a...crawl.  At this point I know it's about to crash, just like when you know your cell phone is about to ring from hearing the speaker interference.  And then <blip> Dreamweaver quits.
The workaround I have devised is to simply not edit any images unless I delete them from the page first.  Then I have to re-insert them, re-do the link and border, etc.  This is not the way it's supposed to work but Adobe does not seem to have a real solution.
There is another related post on Dreamweaver crashing (http://forums.adobe.com/message/238854) that noted the same entries on the crash report as I have been seeing:
    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0   Fireworks                     0x04cde9b1 FWImaging::SetSourceImageFromClipboard(unsigned short**, unsigned long&) + 735 (FWImaging.cpp:1016)
I'm starting to suspect some sort of end-of-file error is created when a source image is changed, but that's just a guess.

  • Stop the Internal Error Message in Fireworks CS4 or CS3

About 8 hours ago I ran into what is apparently a fairly
common problem for many people using Fireworks - the error message
that wouldn't allow me to save anything. Luckily, I paid attention
in class long enough to at least know to save my work often, so I
didn't lose much - just a basic wireframe that I threw together in
15 minutes or so. Thankfully, I tried saving when I did or this
would probably be a very tearful night for me. Instead, it's just a
long night. I can deal with that.
But, before I pat my iMac on the top of it's screen and say
"goodnight" I wanted to share with you the secret to "fixing" the
error message. Hopefully this will help those poor souls in the
future who need a little guidance from someone who's been there,
done that, and is too tired to design the t-shirt. This method will
    also work on Windows machines.
I'm not saying this is guaranteed to work for you, but I'm
telling you it's worth a shot. It only requires a little of your
time to do and will hopefully be the fix you need. If it's not,
please accept my sincerest understanding of your frustration and
try another method. This fix suggests that you have added, removed,
or relocated fonts on your computer since the last time Fireworks
worked properly, however, even if you haven't done any of those
things I'd still recommend giving this a try. Here's what you do:
    1. Open your favorite font manager software. I prefer the
pre-installed Font Book on the Mac, but you can use any font
manager that you want. Some good commercial font management
programs for Mac include, MasterJuggler, Suitcase Fusion, FontAgent
Pro, and Font Explorer X. For Windows you might want to try, Font
Fitting Room, X-Fonter, Suitcase for Windows, OT1 Font Manager by J
M Berthier, MainType, FontExplorer for Windows, Printer’s
Apprentice, FontAgent Pro for Windows, Typograf, or FontExpert.
Those are in no particular order, just in case you were wondering.
    2. select all of your installed fonts - including your system
fonts. Run your "validate font" command for the font management
program you're using. Sit back and let it work. I had more than
6,000 fonts on my Mac, so it took a few minutes to run through all
    of them.
    3. Your font management program should let you know which, if
any, of your fonts are corrupt, duplicates, or otherwise
dead-weight. Chances are there will be a few if you're getting the
internal error message at start-up or save with Fireworks. You need
to delete or at least remove these fonts from the fonts folder. I
had, and I'm ashamed of this, 256 duplicates and 135 dead fonts on
my poor computer. But, in my own defense, I did just reinstall many
of the fonts a few days ago and was planning to gradually work
through them to pull out the dead/unwanted ones. I should have done
that before putting them to disc last time, but no... I wasn't
    thinking.
    4. once you have the fonts removed/deleted that produced
errors or warnings during the scan with your font management
program you might want to run the scan one more time just to be
sure you got everything out. If everything looks good, you can now
    quit/exit the font manager.
    5. here's where things will seriously divide for Windows
users and Mac users. Therefore, I'm not going to fully explain
where you need to go or how to get there for this step, but I will
provide the basics. On your computer, you need to find the folders
for fireworks that contain your preferences for the program (hint,
look in the user's appdata folders, which is hidden, for Windows or
the user's Library for Mac). Inside the preferences folder you'll
find a file that houses a list of fonts, probably called fontlist
or something very similar. Delete it. You might also wish to delete
the cache for the program preferences. Those need to be regenerated
in order for this to work.
    6. Find your computer's font cache while you're looking
through the massive amounts of folders and delete the file there
too for a little added security that this will work.
    7. restart your computer.
    8. open Fireworks and create a new file. Save that file to
your computer in whatever format you want.
If the program opened, the file saved, and you didn't receive
that same old error message, congratulations, it worked! You may
have to re-establish your preference settings, but you shouldn't
    have any other problems.
That is the best I can do this evening... or morning I
suppose it would be. Best of luck to you!

  • Fireworks CS3 OS X constant crashes with complex files

I recently purchased CS3 and started using Fireworks CS3
instead of Photoshop for web development. Absolutely love it. I
started having crashes, mainly on opening complex files created in
Fireworks CS3. A couple weeks ago I formatted my entire system,
starting completely from scratch, only installing the applications
and fonts that I absolutely needed. Nevertheless, I continue to get
Fireworks crashes, which appear by the logs to be related to a
    memory leak in Fireworks.
If Fireworks only crashed itself, the issue would be bad
enough. But it brings down several other apps with it. The apps are
different each time. Sometimes it crashes Mail and Dashboard
Calendar, sometimes it crashes Firefox and iCal. Rarely does it
crash only itself. And rarely does it crash all programs. It's
usually a random selection of apps.
All other CS3 apps have worked beautifully. All other apps on
the box work great. And the log is filled with stuff like:
    quote:
Adobe Fireworks CS3(299,0xa000cfc0) malloc: *** Deallocation
of a pointer not malloced: 0xfcc2a8; This could be a double free(),

Heaven forbid, Linda! How dare a Fireworks user talk about
his problem with yet another buggy Macrodobe product. The nerve!
Telling him to contact your support is like telling him to contact
the man in the moon because you've run out of cheese.
Brian, I share your frustration. Fireworks has become
completely unstable for me with large or complex files on my Mac.
It works much better on my PC though. It has been my experience
that almost all releases of Macrodobe software works this way on a
mac until late in its product cycle.
This, sadly, seems to be the way Macrodobe works though. :(
This is a user to user forum, Brian. There's not much we can
    do about
such issues here. Your best bet would be to contact Adobe
    Customer Service.

  • Fireworks CS3 & Illustrator CS3

I'm not sure if this is more an Illustrator problem or a
Fireworks issue, but since I can post here but can't log into the
    Illustrator forum, I'll start here.
I have illustrations created in Illustrator. Black and white
images, and I want the white to be transparent, or rather see-thru
since I don't mean transparency as in opacity. What I want is for
the background to show through the "white" portions of the black
and white illustrations. So, if you have a black circle with a
white triangle in the middle, and put it on a green background, the
black circle will be black and the "white" triangle will be green.
Hopefully, that clarifies what I am trying to do.
So, in Illustrator CS3, I take that illustration and use
"exclude" and "expand" to apply it to the illustration. Seems to
work fine there. If I create a solid-colored square and move it
behind the illustration, the "white" areas show the square's color
    instead of white.
Now, when I open that illustration in Fireworks CS3, I get a
black solid image. No paths where the "white" areas should be. Just
    a solid black area.
Now, if I take that original illustration, open it in
Illustrator 5.5(!), use "exclude," save and then open that modified
file in Fireworks 1.0(!), it works just fine. I can also open that
Illustrator 5.5 file in Fireworks CS3 and it works fine.
Mind you, the illustrations are more complex than a white
triangle in a black circle. But, if Illustrator 5.5 and Fireworks
1.0 can handle them, the CS3 versions ought to be able to handle
    them as well.
Since I would expect that the CS3 versions should be able to
do the same things that the much older versions can do, I can only
assume (and hope!) that I must be doing something wrong. I would
hate to have to save all my Illustrator CS3 files down to
Illustrator 3 files (since CS3 can't save to Illustrator 5), open
them in Illustrator 5.5 and "exclude," then resave them and then
finally open them in Fireworks CS3, especially since that involves
using two Macs, since the Intel Macs don't run Classic. Seems like
I should be able to go direct from Illustrator CS3 to Fireworks
    CS3.
So, what am I doing wrong?

Found it! Compound Path instead of Exclude.

  • DWT file not updating with drop-down menu edits rom Fireworks

Aughh! I am almost done with my website, when I go back to
Fireworks and add a couple new tabs on a drop-down menu. I update
the DWT file in Dreamweaver, but one of two things happens: either
the update simply doesn't "take", or all of the <body>
section is mysteriously deleted from the DWT file. If I preview the
Fireworks template (from Fireworks), everything is as it should be,
but not when I preview in Dreamweaver. Not sure if this is a
Fireworks issue or a Dreamweaver so I've posted in both. No one in
the FIreworks forum has come up with any suggestions yet.
    What the hell?

  • Fireworks CS4 / Mac OS X 10.6.4 - My UI is completely wonky

    Okay, start up Fireworks.
New Document. The window for a new document is ABOVE the application menu, meaning I can't get to it at all. It creates a new document at about 29% size (or smaller) and places it in the complete, top left of my Mac's screen, meaning BEHIND the Fireworks/Apple menus. I can't get to the document at all.
Selecting the "f" key to move between interfaces (full screen, etc) produces a completely disappearing interface. In other words the ENTIRE Fireworks interface completely disappears.
Same if I go to "Workspace..." and select ANY workspace in the menu. The WHOLE ENTIRE interface disappears.
I've thrown away Fireworks Preferences about half a dozen times and tried restarting... nothing. I've rebooted the computer... nothing.
Anyone have anymore ideas? Right now Fireworks is completely useless to me, and I'm really frustrated and angry.

Thanks Jim, where can I get the clean scripts?
And honestly? I can't pinpoint the time when it started going bad, but I *think* it happened around the time I ran the Adobe Update. I try *very hard* to keep this laptop as clean as possible, and I'm super-anal about install software, only installing purchased, licensed stuff, no shareware unless it's a full stable release, no beta software, etc. So my *instinct* is to think it happened sometime around an update.
Right now it *seems* to be working okay, and I haven't run the update. DW was the most frustrating as its panels and panel sets would COMPLETELY disappear and never come back. It almost seemed like a graphics card issue, know what I mean? Like the panels wouldn't display properly. You'd make a change (say, go from "Developer" workspace to "Classic" workspace) and panels would completely disappear and never come back. You'd minimize panels and they'd phantom disappear. Sometimes switching apps (DW > Option-Finder > DW) would bring them back, but not consistently. And DW was the ONLY app that would do that. That wasn't so irritating. The Fireworks issue however was completely unusable. I'd go to create a new document and the new document window would be ABSOLUTELY at "0,0" on the Mac. I'm talking the top left of the new document window was BEHIND the Apple Menu. I couldn't grab the window bar or anything. Just utterly unusable.
I've got CS4 completely installed. Last night I removed every Adobe product I could see on the computer, pulled all preference files, went into application support and removed anything Adobe, and used spotlight to hunt for anything else containing the word "Adobe" and tried to clean it as best I could and did a custom reinstall this morning leaving out Version Cue and Drive and NOT running the update, and so far everything looks and works perfectly.
I posted another thread in the CS forums, but someone over there said that the Suite forum doesn't get much traffic and to try the DW and FW forums. Since I posted here first, I'm going to use this thread. I'll look over in the DW forums and see if anyone has the same issue, but if I run the updater (which I'm currently debating, honestly) and it reappears, I want to have my hands on that clean script. Where do I get that for Mac OS 10.6.4?

  • Status Bar Messages

    1. Anyone know if these are still used much? I remember seeing them a lot about 10 years ago.
    2. I tried this in CS5, and when I preview it there is no status bar message when I rollover a hotspot? I am testing in Safari on a Mac.
    Thank you.

Mostly, people don't mess with the default status bar messages any more. Since it can be used to hide the real destination of a link, the technique has been used in phishing. It's somewhat of a security problem.
IE9 doesn't seem to handle them them either. I found this page, which indicates that swapping out the status bar message is turned off by default in most newer browsers, which means that the user would have to enable it before any coding you put in would be effective.
    http://www.quackit.com/javascript/javascript_status_bar_messages.cfm
It isn't a Fireworks issue. It's a browser security default.

  • Please Help, Issues when batch processing Multi Frame images in Fireworks

I hope someone will know how to do this and tell me where I am going wrong.
    Objective 1
I have a large number of images that all have the exact same number of frames (4) and are all exactly the same size that I want to get resized, cropped and water marked (when I say 'watermarked I mean have my websites logo pasted in a specificlocation on each frame, I have my websites logo as a seperate .png file which I copy from).
    Current Process
I create a command which will crop the image then paste my companys url/log onto the first frame, move it to the correct location on the frame then copy it again and then paste it onto each of the other frames, the command then resizes the image tot he exact proportions I want.
I start a batch process and use my command, making sure that I also export from the .png to animated gif (and I edit the settings to make it 256 animated gif).
    Error 1
The process described above resizes and crops my images however it does NOT put the watermark in the correct place, it seems to put it int he right place on the first frame and then in a different place on all the followingn frames thus giving the effect of the watermark jumping around. Which is obviously NOT what I want.
    Question 1
Please let me know what process I should be following to correct the Error 1 above.
    Objective & Question 2
I want to do exactly the same thing as shown above but this time the files have a varying number of frames (from 2 to 45 frames (or instances as CS4 seems to call them)). Is there a way to paste my logo to the to the exact same location on ALL frames?
    Other information
I have tried WHXY Paste extension and I can not see how to use that to solve the issue. I have also tried 'Paste in Place' however I can not see how to use the Paste In Place extension as it is not appering in my list of commands.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    Andy

Andy, you could start a batch process which will do most of the things you are asking for. THe batch process can be done using Fireworks. The right way to start is going to Archivo / Procesar por Lotes and then follow all the different option this tool has to offer.  Yes, I know I gave you the names in Spanish but that is the way I use Adobe Fireworks.
I hope this was usefull for you!

  • Again, has anyone experienced any issues concerning the auto vector mask option in Fireworks when trying to fade an image?

I have a major issue that I have tried to resolve on many levels, to no avail. The auto vector mask pop up window is empty when I choose it to fade an image in fireworks. Can anyone please assist. Thanks.

All those commands use Flash for their GUIs - is the Flash player installed on your system?
Are you on Mac or Windows? It works fine for me on Windows.

  • Is Adobe planning on fixing memory issues or are they hoping Fireworks will go away?

When trying to use Fireworks for larger sites, we (and a lot of other people we talk to) have always had issues with Fireworks crashing (Mac and PC).
We try to split files when working on larger sites but if you use a lot of symbols, updating them is really slow - often slower than saving files and it doesn't stop the crashing.
I realise people might say we're asking for trouble designing pages that are 3000px - 4000px long but long scrolling pages often work well (http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html http://www.kaleidoscopeapp.com/) and we find ourselves designing more and more of them.
When using Fireworks every day, you have to wonder if Adobe would prefer everyone switch to Photoshop - does anyone know what their plans are for Fireworks?
Practical suggestions for stopping the crashes would also be great!
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks Jim,
We saw a dot release for Fireworks with the CS5.5 Suite
When I looked at CS5.5 I didn't see Fireworks - totally missed that!
Can you tell me, are you designing multi-page files at these dimensions? If not - good. If so, I would question why, considering that you need to move to Dreamweaver or another web editor to create the actual final site.
Wherever possible, we actually wireframe then design directly in HTML/CSS but on bigger sites, we use developers who like Fireworks files. Plus on the bigger sites, corporate clients often prefer seeing how key pages will look/flow with content in them before they go out for coding.
In these situations, we've tried both multi-page documents and single page documents. But with a lot of symbols, it's actually quicker to reduce the undos to 1, use multi-page docs and gingerly save after every change! We've found updating lots of symbols across multiple docs painfully slow.
Again, I am making a lot of assumptions here, so please forgive that.
    No worries!
Also keep in mind that the MAXIMUM page dimension for a new Fireworks document is 6000 pixels. And it sounds like you're getting awfully close to it. FW does not have the same kiknd of memory management features that Photoshop has.
I guess this is the crux of the issue. We can load up the file size in Photoshop but Fireworks has so many features targeted to web design that it's hard to use Photoshop for this purpose.
I thought I'd read somewhere that Fireworks will only ever use 2GB of ram and I've noticed a similar thing in Activity Monitor - Fireworks seems to only ever take about 1.98GB of ram. However this is pure speculation and I don't know this for sure.
Anyway, thanks for the replies. I guess I was curious to see if anyone had heard what Adobe might be planning as the memory issue is surely well known to them - and it's obviously a conscious decision to not allow Fireworks to access more.
    Unless CS5.5 addresses this?

  • Color display issues in Fireworks

I have been having problems with how colors are displaying in Fireworks CS4.  Some colors appear to be extremely desaturated and was
hed out, yet when exported or viewed in another application, they appear vivid and vibrant.
Similarly, some jpeg files, when opened in Fireworks, appear overly saturated and vibrant as compared to the original.
This is a new issue which seemed to develop spontaneously in the past month or so (it used to work fine).  I have tried to find some
way of adjusting the color display or calibrating the program, but have come up empty handed.  This is becoming a big problem for m
e since I rely heavily on Fireworks for creating website layouts.  A color palate that looks perfect in Fireworks then looks garish
and terrible in the other adobe programs or in my safari browser.
The only changes I have made to my system are to install any mac or adobe updates that come through.
Can you suggest anything which might be causing this problem and how I might resolve it?

  • Mac Media Keys Causing Adobe Fireworks Selection Tool Issues?

This issue has been driving me nuts. I've contacted Adobe support, but havn't recieved a response.
For some reason while using Adobe Fireworks CS5 the selection (pointer) tool no longer functions properly. It did at one point.
I have to hold down the mouse and pull the trap lines over any object to get it to select. Not very practicle when you have to select multiple items. All the other tools are working in a wonky manner as well.
I have tried reinstalling the program and running disk repair on my system. No resolve
I have read a ton of forums and users are mention programs like spotify that are causing the conflict. I dont have any of the know programs installed on my mac that people have mentioned.
I have also read that it is itunes media key functionality may be causing the issue?
I know this might be an Adobe issue, just thought I'd reach out and see if anyone has a resolve.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Fireworks Selection Tool Issues

I'm having issues with my selection tool in Fireworks CS5. The selection tool isn't working properly upon click etc.
I have encountered this issue before and don't remember my resolve. I do know that this is some issue resulting from the Media Keys on my mac.
Note: I am not running anything like Spotify or any other outside app I have seen mentioned on other posts.
    Any resolve would be appreciated.

  • Fireworks Pop Up Menu Issue in Dreamweaver

Hi I have built a pop up/dropdown menu in Fireworks. This menu bar is for a site that I built using dreamweaver. I exported the menu bar in fireworks and then inserted it into dreamweaver but when I do this the button images are missing. Instead of images (of the menu bar categories), there are gray boxes in the shape of the picture (category/button image).
I had this issue before and was able to correct it. I am not sure what I did though. Nothing seems to be working, since I am unaware of how I actually fixed it, I can't figure out how to fix it again.
When I preview the file in fireworks, it looks fine and everything seems to work. When I insert the html file into dreamweaver, I have this issue with the menu bar images. The weird thing is that it is only the button images. I do have this site published and I have uploaded all of the files but the pictures still do not show. The link to this site is www.pariswyattllansoart.com. (the site is still under construction obviously).
The menu bar works fine otherwise. The only issue is that the up and over images for the buttons of the menu bar do not show in dreamweaver or on the published site. Even the images that make up the rest of the menu bar show. If you check the site out, you will see what I mean.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Thanks you!!! Your advice was so helpful. First of all thank you for pointing out how I should be saving my files. Because of your advice, I thought I would watch the tutorial again and pay attention to exactly how he was saving his document. I was saving the doc like this: Menu Bar, now I know that I need to save this file like this: menuBar_file and it works wonderfully. The files have to be saved in a folder in the local directory. Also because of how I was saving things, I realized that I had a few other problems with DW. I fixed those issues and DW works wonderfully.
Also here is something else that I learned from this. Once I got the images working, the dropdown/popup menus where no longer working. The issue was that I was trying to insert the FW dropdown menu into a document that had already been saved as a template. If you do this, there is not enough room for all of the code, so the remedy is to insert the menu bar into an html doc. and then save it as a template.
Thanks so much again. I have learned so much.
