Fireworks pop-up menu question

when i use fireworks mx to create pop-up menus, the second level menus don't show on the iphone
when i use cs5 and export as external css, the second levels do appear on the iphone but i'm having a different problem - i'm centering the main image but the submenus don't follow to the trigger point they stay put, on the left of where they should be

The FW pop up menus are - quite possibly - the worst thing to use for a production-level site. And this is coming from a guy who LOVES Fireworks.
They code is bloated, difficult to customize outside of FW and no longer supported by Dreamweaver. Avoid them for anything but prototyping.
The other point worth raising though, is the usability of the site on a smart phone. You may want ot reconsider how the site is navigated when users are on a small-screen device, just for usability's sake, if nothing else. Always remember, big clumsy fingers have to tap the right menu item and if you have navigation with pop up sub-menus, that may be difficult. If you're relying on the user to pinch and zoom (like my stupid bank does) then you will frustrate the user, or possibly even give themt he impression that the company doens't understand mobile browsing.
Consider simplyfiying your navigation to larger, easy to tap buttons. Create style sheets that optimize the screen space for different screen sizes. If you're new to this, it will take some trial and error, but Dreamweaver offers several features to make it easier to design for multiple screen sizes, such as jQuery Mobile templates, and multi-screen preview.
And last - but not least - remember that FW is a GRAPHICS program, with some html capabilities, not a web authoring environment. Just as you don't expect to do complex imaging in Dreamweaver, you should not rely on Fireworks to do any complicated HTML/CSS web site authoring.

  • Fireworks pop up menu and flash

    hi,
I want to have a page layout like adobe.com. Fireworks Pop up
menu on top and flash swf file beneth it, but my Fireworks css pop
up menu is hidden by flash swf file embeded when I bring it all
    together in Dreamweaver.
I guess this is because embeded files superceed the css
z-indexing but how do I overcome this isue. As I can see it can be
    done at adobe.com.

All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
    to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
    Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
    is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
    if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
    use the Flash
    wmode parameter.

  • Help inserting Fireworks pop-up menu into Dreamweaver

I wonder if anyone can help me with pop-up menu insertion
process. I create the menu in Fireworks and export it to
Dreamweaver. I place the menu in a fresh test document and it works
perfectly every time, but when I go through the exact same series
of steps in my real page, I get a broken image icon. I just can't
understand why the path is fine one way, yet gets lost in the
shuffle the other way. The only two differences I can think of are
where in the site folder the test page is saved, as opposed to
where the real (archive) page is stored, and the fact that the
archive page already has rows and columns and cells, where the
fresh test page has just one basic table and nothing else at all. I
even tried manipulating the code directly to make the sections in
question identical, and even that doesn't do it. As far as I could
see, my actual working site page (which won't accept the insertion)
had one extra bit of code, namely
    <td colspan="4"
Everything else seems to be the same.
I am losing my sanity over this!

Would it be too late to direct you to another menu approach
    altogether? The
FW pop-up menus are not the sharpest knife in the drawer -

  • Fireworks Pop Up Menu Issue in Dreamweaver

Hi I have built a pop up/dropdown menu in Fireworks. This menu bar is for a site that I built using dreamweaver. I exported the menu bar in fireworks and then inserted it into dreamweaver but when I do this the button images are missing. Instead of images (of the menu bar categories), there are gray boxes in the shape of the picture (category/button image).
I had this issue before and was able to correct it. I am not sure what I did though. Nothing seems to be working, since I am unaware of how I actually fixed it, I can't figure out how to fix it again.
When I preview the file in fireworks, it looks fine and everything seems to work. When I insert the html file into dreamweaver, I have this issue with the menu bar images. The weird thing is that it is only the button images. I do have this site published and I have uploaded all of the files but the pictures still do not show. The link to this site is www.pariswyattllansoart.com. (the site is still under construction obviously).
The menu bar works fine otherwise. The only issue is that the up and over images for the buttons of the menu bar do not show in dreamweaver or on the published site. Even the images that make up the rest of the menu bar show. If you check the site out, you will see what I mean.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Thanks you!!! Your advice was so helpful. First of all thank you for pointing out how I should be saving my files. Because of your advice, I thought I would watch the tutorial again and pay attention to exactly how he was saving his document. I was saving the doc like this: Menu Bar, now I know that I need to save this file like this: menuBar_file and it works wonderfully. The files have to be saved in a folder in the local directory. Also because of how I was saving things, I realized that I had a few other problems with DW. I fixed those issues and DW works wonderfully.
Also here is something else that I learned from this. Once I got the images working, the dropdown/popup menus where no longer working. The issue was that I was trying to insert the FW dropdown menu into a document that had already been saved as a template. If you do this, there is not enough room for all of the code, so the remedy is to insert the menu bar into an html doc. and then save it as a template.
Thanks so much again. I have learned so much.

  • Help with Fireworks  pop-up menu

    Hi All,
    I created a vertical pop-up menu from Fireworks MX 2004. I
inserted it into my Dreamweaver file and it works great. However, I
want the white background of the pop-up menu to be have a 40%
opacity. I know I have to add a bit of coding to the mm_menu.js
file and I've tried every conceivable bit of coding I can think of
but still no luck. Does anyone know what to write and where to
write in the code? Thanks in advance for any help!
Below is the section of code that I've been working with. I
assumed the opacity coding would go here some where.

  • Problem with Fireworks pop up menu in DW

(I already posted this on the DW forum, but it's also about
FW, so may be someone here knows about this as well.)
    Hi,
I am working on a page whose layout was created in Fireworks
and transferred to DW. After I transferred the page to DW and
created new ones from the template, I went back to edit my page in
FW. I created a couple of rollovers and pop up menus. After I made
these edits, I went back to DW and everything worked fine on the
template page, but my pop up menus did not transfer correctly to
the other pages. They appear in weird places (bottom of the page!)
and the styles pretty much disappeared as well.
Does someone know what could be the problem and how to fix
it? One of the things I noticed is that the menus' CSS file is only
completely visible on the template but not on the other pages. In
the template I can see all the styles applied in the file, but on
the other pages only the CSS title appears, not the styles applied
    to the pages.
I am using FW and DW 8.
    I need HELP!!!
Thanks for any information you can provide.
    MS

    > Does someone know what could be the problem and how to
    fix it?
The general problem is that fly-out menus created in FW or DW
    both suck.
Really bad. Inaccessible, poor usability, a pain to update,
    and bloated
    scripts.
The specific problem is that the FW menu uses layers. Meaning
    that it
specifically positions the menus on the screen relative to
    the FW file...not
your DW file, which may have moved the contents around the
    page.
Best solution? Don't use these crappy menus. Here are some
    better options:

  • Pop Up Menu Question

I can generate pop up menus in fireworks, transfer to dreamweaver and they work fine, except; I can't figure out how to change the menu item with the mouse over as the mouse moves over the menu word (like change the text or background color). Can I do this? I am using CS3 on dreamworks and fireworks. I have looked at spry and based on what I have seen, I do like as well as using fireworks.
    Thanks

Sounds like you need only one popup. Column B (what you called "column 2") should either be a nested IF statement or a lookup function. The lookup functions are cleaner than a nested IF statement but here is an IF statement anyway:
    =IF(A=123,"Job 1",IF(A=342,"Job 2",IF(A=654,"Job 3","")))

  • Fireworks pop up menu

How do I make the top menu tab stay hovered on when a mouse
goes over its submenus, right now it goes back to original image
after the mouse leaves the hotspot of the tab. I'd like to have it
    like adobe.com.

Do not use the standard Simple Rollover behavior. Use the
    Swap image
behavior instead, and uncheck restore onMouseOut in the Swap
    image
editor. You'll find that it's more complicated even than that
    however.
Here are some tutorials you'll find very useful in building
    your own
    menu systems from scratch.

  • Adobe Fireworks cs5 pop up menu stile benutzerdefiniert

    Hallo,

All Active content on a page will always rise to the top, so
    to speak,
including Flash, certain form elements, Java applets, and
    Active X controls.
This means that each of these will poke through layers. There
    is not a good
cross-browser/platform reliable way to solve this issue, but
    if you can be
confident in your visitors using IE 5+ or NN6+, then you can
    use the Flash
    wmode parameter.

  • Pop-up menue created by Fireworks 8 does not work well in Dreamweaver 8

    Hi there,
I have experienced some strange behaviour of Dreamweaver 8
with respect to am enuebar with pop-up-Menue-HTML created by
Fireworks 8. Having designed the pop-up menue in Fireworks 8 all
works fine if you view it through Firewoks. After having exported
the XHTML-Code for Dreamweaver in a file all continues to work fine
if you view it with IE 7.
When imported to Dreamweaver as Fireworks-HTML blue boxes
were shown around the bar and the pop-menue appears with blue boxes
around. Viewing this stuff by pressing F12 in Dreamweaver shows up
the page in the browser with the menue bar and all the submenues (I
cant stand it anymore). I tried a lot of things but I failed. Help
    would be appreciated very much.

  • Problem with pop up menu created in fireworks

I have created a banner with buttons and added a pop up menu to them.
    They work perfectly with-in Fireworks.
I then export page to dreamweaver and both banner and buttons display properly but I cannot get pop up menu to show at all.
I want to choose each menu and make the links with-in dreamweaver but cannot get pop up top show.
I am using CS5 and would appreciate your help.
AlSO I AM STILL LEARNING SO IF YOU COULD KEEP IT AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

HELLO AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY. I HAVE CREATED A QUICK BANNER WHICH IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE I WANT TO CREATE. THE LIST OF BUTTON ARE  PLACED INTO MY BANNER AND I HAVE ADDED POP UP MENUS TO ALL WITH 3 CELLS DEEP DROPPING DOWNWARDS. WHEN I VIEW THESE IN PREVIEW IN A WEB BROWSER FROM FIREWORKS THEY WORK PERFECTLY. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I DON'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO MOVE THIS PAGE TO DREAM WEAVER AND HAVE IT DISPLAY THE POP UP MENUS. THEY WILL SHOW AS AN IMAGE AS IT IS SEEN HERE BUT WILL NOT DROP DOWN IN PREVIEW BROWSER IN DREAM WEAVER. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SELECT THE INDIVIDUAL LISTS IN THE DROP DOWN MENU AND CREATE LINKS TO VARIOUS PAGES WITH-IN MY SITE IN DREAM WEAVER. IT MAY BE THE CASE THAT I AM NOT EXPORTING IT PROPERLY OR SAVING  IT CORRECTLY.

  • Fireworks 8 pop up menu problem

My problem involves creating a pop-up menu in Fireworks 8 and
then when Iimport into Dreamweave 8, and then preview using
Firefox, or EI, the box gets cut off and the words hang off the
edge. I have the width and height specifications in Fireworks set
to automatic. When I preview in Firefox or EI from fireworks, it
looks great, so it almost seems it is something in the transition
from Fireworks to Dreamweaver. Anyone deal with this?

  • Retaining overstate in Fireworks 8 generated Pop-Up Menu

    Hi all,
Some of you may be aware of the small JavaScript changes that
you can make to the Fireworks generated code when building a Pop-Up
menu that allows the overstate of the active frame image to be
retained when mousing over a pop-up item.
I have used this code successfully with menu items that all
gererate a pop-up menu. However, when modifying the code
(basically, cutting the function MM_swapImageRestore(); from the
html page and placing it in the js file) when I have one or more
menu item that don't spawn pop-up sub menus the non-pop-up spawning
menu item upsets the code behavior.
On mousing from a pop-up spawning menu item directly onto a
non-pop-up spawning menu item the pop-up spawning item retains its
    overstate fram image and does not carryout the swapImageRestore();
    function.
Does anyone know the JavaScript code adjustments that are
necessary to allow the mixing of pop-up and non-pop-up spawning
menu items that allow the frame image overstate to be preserved
when mousing onto a spawned pop-up menu?
Thank you for any comments or suggestions.
PS I don't need other pop-up menu suggestions as I am
concentrating on solving this specific issue with this post.
    Thanks.
    Nick Barling
    barkingweb.com

Talking to myself again. After a week of defining silence I
take it that no one knows the solution to this problem? Well, I
have solved the problem with a bit of code manipulation and the
    menus work very well now.

  • Dreamweaver, Fireworks pop menu and Flash  banner issue

For some unknown reasons I am not getting my Fireworks
pop-menu to show over a flash banner. It looks like it's working,
but hidden behind the flash banner

    >>but hidden behind the flash banner
That's because Flash content rises to the top, so to speak.
    There is a
kludge/hack using the wmode parameter but I believe it only
    works in IE.
Your best bet is to redesign the page so the Flash is
    separated from the
    menu.

  • Pop-Up Menu Bar Question

Hello,  here is my problem, if you could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated.
    My problem:
My main page index.html is a frameset with a left frame, top frame and main frame.  The top frame is where the logo is and the tag line, the main frame is where the pages will appear and the left frame has a nav bar made from a pop-up menu.  Here is my problem, when you scroll over the type in the navbar, the pop-up shows up behind the main frame.  How can I correct this?  All of the links are working properly and the site is working great except for this.
Thank you in advance for your help.  I would post the link here but I don't have it on the internet yet, it is still in production.

FRAMES are a bad idea in general.  Tables are best used for tabular data such as spreadsheets or charts.
Choose a CSS starter page or layout that provides a left column or sidebar region where you can insert a common navigation menu.
    EXAMPLE:
    http://alt-web.com/TEMPLATES/2-col-liquid-layout.shtml
Add commonly used headers, footers, adverts and save it as a DW Template (DWT). Then add some editable regions to your Template for text and images that will change from page to page.
