Fireworks question

When trying save work done in Fireworks 8, an internal error
comes up and the file is not saved. A new file can be opened or
created and saved. This occurs intermittently on different
computers with different users. XP Pro is the operating system. Can
anyone help solve this problem?

An Internal Error message is an indication that some kind of
memory
handling was not made available to the program. Possible
causes are
moving the file to a new location, using the program in User
rather than
in Administrator mode, Saving to a networked drive rather
than the one
the program is installed on. Some people have reported this
kind of
message after uninstalling fonts that may have been used in
the file.
Sometimes you can fix the problem by deleting the Fireworks
preferences
text file. On my machine, that file is located at

  • Need help on image for my business.

hi. I'm Mike Gambino, admin/founder of my own website called http://gambinoarmy.co.cc/. I've been using macromedia for this stuff but apparently, y'all have better stuff than macromedia and I started using the schools. I have a trial on my computer for 30 days and I have been using it and I need to know how to do something. I see that lots of business owners have images that are linked on their site and it is making me mad that everytime I want to make an image, fireworks will not let me do anything on it.
there is something I want to do and it is to make an image that shows their signature, if they are online or not, when level their at, how long they have been playing, and so forth. I want to know if someone can help me give me a tutorial on how to make an image with HTML embeded into the image source so I can make it so that it is live and will work like most businesses do.
since I hardly go on since I'm trying to edit my site still, I would like someone to email me at [email protected] so I can get it right on my computer and I will not have to hunt down this forum post. I'm mostly busy and I'm trying to keep my site running and up to date and it is a busy week for me since I'm trying to do a grand opening of my site since someone hacked my site and edited a lot of things and now I secured it and everything and recovered my lost data.
    please help me.

is there even a way to take HTML scripts of PHP scripts, put it in a document and try using a <img src=" " /> code to try making it into an image?
The wording of that question doesn't even make sense. HTML is not scripting, it isn't programming. It is markup for text display. The image tag is also not programming; it is the markup for HTML that displays an image that has been created and stored.
For your desired functionality, something could probably be done with PHP and a database, if the person doing the work knew what he or she was doing. In any case, it isn't a Fireworks question. Fireworks creates graphics and it can output some HTML. It is not a programming environment.
If you want to put the your desired functionality into your site yourself, you first need to learn what HTML is and is not, what it can and can't do. Then, you need to move on to learning a programming language (for example PHP, ColdFusion, Perl, C#/.NET), as well as SQL (the language) and some database expertise. You also will need to learn about securing your database-driven site.
    Good luck!

  • Several questions on Fireworks from absolute beginner

    Hello!
At the moment I'm in the very beginning of web-designing process and I've been using Fireworks trial for several days only. Before that I've created only one website in Joomla! and that's all. I've got several questions and I would be glad if masters of Fireworks will post full answers on them.
I've read the official manual, but didn't check any additional materials, because I feel better when learning myself with help in form of answers to concrete questions.
Here is how I see process of making simple website in Fireworks: draw website and then make it to work. I did first part and I've prepared my website. It of course looks ugly, but I want to start from it, as I'm learning. Here it is:
Okay, what is the next thing I should do? Right, I should slice it. And here goes the question: how should I slice my menu? I want it to be simple menu, so when you move mouse over "About me" it lightens in some other color and some content should appear in right part of this structure. How would I implement it using Fireworks? Then in what format should I export my webpage? HTML and CSS? How do I write styles in CSS through Fireworks? And final question is how can I make my website be in center of page (I've tried to add <center></center> inside "index.htm" file, but no luck)? I would also like to know what do I need to do with all images so you can't select them with mouse and move all around in your browser? How do I stick them:
Thanks and sorry for too many questions at one time,
    Aleks.

Looking at your mockup, that navbar could probably be created
completely using CSS and HTML, rather than slice up the "button areas"
but if you want to go that route, I'd recommend creating button
symbols. The slicing is done for you and you can create up to four
    states for the button.
If you want to export the graphics only, choose File > Export.
    Browse to your site folder
Set the Export option to Images only
Make sure you are exporting slices
Deselect the option to export areas without slices
Click Save (Windows) or Export (Mac)
Use DW to create your page, insert your images and add your rollover
    behaviors.

  • Fireworks newbie question

ok ....so i've been 'learning' fireworks since ver 1 in 1998 . doh !  Suddenly though i have really got to grips with fw , making a nice interface /gallery for my gardening business . The one problem that i have is that when i scroll down to the middle of the page and then click a button the 'focus' of the page jumps up to the top  . this only happens in internet explorer and not in the previewer in fireworks mx
    Thankyou and Regards, James

Sounds like this is a coding issue now, you may want to ask the question in the Dreamweaver forum.
However before you do, please upload the files to a remote server and provide a link to them when you ask your question.  The only way people can help troubleshoot is if they see the page in context and can examine the code, the css, images etc.,

  • Dreamweaver to Fireworks Templates Question

I have been using Dreamweaver and Fireworks for a while now,
but I am just starting the enter the world of templates. I have
previously just been creating a graphical layout in Fireworks and
exporting the HTML and slices to Dreamweaver and using it as my
base layout. However, I recently d/l'ed some templates and they
consist of both the .dwt file and a .png file. The .png file is the
layout of the page but with only a few slices of key images. The
.dwt file is identical and is function as a template. My question
is, how do go between fireworks and dreamweaver? Lets say that I
have created an entire layout in fireworks, with roll-over buttons,
etc. How do I now import that page into dreamweaver and use it as a
template? When I try to export the HTML and slices into
dreamweaver, I cannot create layout tables and cells. Do I really
need to recreate everything in dreamweaver?
    Thanks in advance,
    Britain

If you follow the add Dw image placeholder, jump to Fw, Save
png,Save jpg/gif and back to D you 'should' be fine. All that
should take place is the addition of the image and nothing else
    within the code.
I just did another test on a .php page that is hooked into a
mysql database with all sorts of formatting on the page and it
    worked fine.
What versions of Dw/Fw are you using?
I am using the latest, if you are using earlier, that is
possibly where the glitch is occurring?

  • I finished making an animated .gif image in FireWorks. My question is, how do I convert it into video so that when I edit video, that every video editing program recognizes it? Long story short, How do I convert animated .gif files into video formats?

I worked in Adobe FireWorks to make the animated .gif. What program do I use to convert the file from .gif to any video format: .mp4, .m4v, .avi, .wmv, etc. I want to convert it into video format, so that QuickTime Player plays the video, I can insert it into iMovie '11 and edit, and also insert it into Final Cut Pro X and edit video.

Thanks for getting back with me so promptly.  It has taken me this time to connect with the proper people to find out the information you requested.
The camera used to film the class was a Panasonic AG-HMC40P, owned by a local cable TV station; they use Kodak video encoding software, and a SD card was used to store the video.   The file extension is .mts, and the mime file is MPEG 2 transport.  He said I probably need an AVCHD converter, and the Mac app store lists 8 of those options, 4 free and 4 for up to $9.99.  He said I'll also need a converter for later plans of posting on YouTube or on the website, and while some of those in the app store might work for the later needs, he knows one app called "Compressor" that would work for the uploading later.  He also suggested I could try renaming the .mts file to .MP2T, but he wasn't sure that would work.
They don't work with Macs at the studio, but I had thought I could have some lessons there in editing, and apply what I learned to my iMac and iMovie.
First, though, I have to be able to see it and review it!
    Thanks again!

  • Fireworks 3.0 Question

I use Fireworks 3.0 (yes, dark ages) from time to time to do

and must have deleted some fonts or font related data. Now, when I
edit a png file in FW 3.0 the cursor flashes like mad and it takes

    I'd sure appreciate any guidance.

  • Question about installing the fireworks trial

I actually own CS4 suite which includes Fireworks, but I'm on the road and can't use the web album feature without it.
It took me all afternoon to download it and now it says it can't install.  I should check my disk space and download again.
I have 278 free Gigabytes on the drive.  How can it need more than that to install????!!!!!!!!  HELP!  I'm running out of time.
Any help on getting around this would be welcome.
    Thanks.

Odd you should have received either an Error 101 or Error 108.  Where are you choosing to download the install files too?  I would recommend saving the download to either your User folder or Desktop.  If you have problems canceling the download then I would recommend completing solution 1 in Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-download-assistant.html#main_Solutio n_1.
Alternately you can follow the steps listed in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369 to initiate a direct download.

  • Very basic workflow question Dreamweaver/Fireworks

I created an index.png page in Fireworks, which includes a
    navigation bar with buttons.
From Fireworks I export the html and images and then open the
    file in Dreamweaver.
In Dreamweaver I create "stub" pages and link the navigation
bar buttons to these "stub" pages.
Now if i want to go back and modify the index.png in
Fireworks, when i re-export the page, all the links i created in
    Dreamweaver are broken.
Is there a way to prevent this?
For example, suppose i want to go back and make changes to
the graphics such as adding a border to the page. I don't want to
clobber my links every time when i re-export.
    Thank you!

Over the years, I've helped countless people who are just

    the site has

That's fine, if you have the skill to go through the code.
    Many of the
people seeking help in these forums don't have that skill.
Alan Musselman, the Fireworks project manager, is quite clear
    about the
purpose of Fireworks HTML. He says it's for doing quick
    mockups. It's
not intended to be used on a live website.
Perhaps it's not all that important for the amateur, who may
    make only
one or two websites in a lifetime. Unfortunately, a lot of
    so-called
"professionals" seem unaware of the problems, too.

  • Question about editing fireworks- errasing.

How do I errase stuff in fireworks? For example, I have a
cirle, and I want to errase about 30 percent of that circle....like
an erraser tool in paint. How do I do that?

See a reply to your later post about circles.
Dividing paths is one way to do what you wish and retain
    vector
    properties in the result.
In this case a circle over a triangle then Divide paths may
    do the trick
(I am too new to FW and how it does things and have not
    checked it out
as I'm in a bit of a rush. perhaps you could do so and post
    back?)

  • Fireworks pop-up menu question

when i use fireworks mx to create pop-up menus, the second level menus don't show on the iphone
when i use cs5 and export as external css, the second levels do appear on the iphone but i'm having a different problem - i'm centering the main image but the submenus don't follow to the trigger point they stay put, on the left of where they should be

The FW pop up menus are - quite possibly - the worst thing to use for a production-level site. And this is coming from a guy who LOVES Fireworks.
They code is bloated, difficult to customize outside of FW and no longer supported by Dreamweaver. Avoid them for anything but prototyping.
The other point worth raising though, is the usability of the site on a smart phone. You may want ot reconsider how the site is navigated when users are on a small-screen device, just for usability's sake, if nothing else. Always remember, big clumsy fingers have to tap the right menu item and if you have navigation with pop up sub-menus, that may be difficult. If you're relying on the user to pinch and zoom (like my stupid bank does) then you will frustrate the user, or possibly even give themt he impression that the company doens't understand mobile browsing.
Consider simplyfiying your navigation to larger, easy to tap buttons. Create style sheets that optimize the screen space for different screen sizes. If you're new to this, it will take some trial and error, but Dreamweaver offers several features to make it easier to design for multiple screen sizes, such as jQuery Mobile templates, and multi-screen preview.
And last - but not least - remember that FW is a GRAPHICS program, with some html capabilities, not a web authoring environment. Just as you don't expect to do complex imaging in Dreamweaver, you should not rely on Fireworks to do any complicated HTML/CSS web site authoring.

  • Fireworks CS4 questions / Saved Commands

I have a digital workflow whereby I export from PS CS4 a directory's worth of TIF images to PNG images and to a sub-directory.
In Fireworks CS4 I then "try" to run a saved command.  It works, after a fashion but with several issues.
Issue #1:  I want the width to be 600pixels and the height should vary depending on the original image's height.  However, when I run my saved command on other images it sets both dimensions to that of the initial image.  Is there a way around this?
Issue #2:  I export the image, it gets me smaller files and I don't need all the extras, just the flat image; unchecking Include areas without slices.  However, when I run my saved command it sometimes checks the Include areas without slices.  Is there any way around this?  At present for each image I have to open it and save each file to get the small files averaging less than half that of the regular Fireworks PNG.  For a directory containing over 800 images this can be time consuming.
    Thanks in advance.

I'll try and I'll also try to insert two images.
Issue #1:  A script I designed inPhotoshop take a directory of files and prepares them for delivery to Fireworks as a PNG file (Image 1).  The steps are as follows: Open all files in the PNG directory, run Fit Canvas (Ctrl + Alt + F), run Image Size (Ctrl + J) setting the file to 600 pixels wide and the height to whatever it may be and then save the file.
Problem #1:  The script runs fine with one caveat.  All the images are the same width as designed.  They are not the same heigth and can vary by as much as 10 to 15 pixels in the final file.  Once I save the command it assumes that I want all the heights to be same; I do not.  The height should vary from file to file which at present they are not because of the assumption of the script; make all heigths the same.
Issue #2:  After having run the above script there is an additional step; export the file.  I do not want the 2+ megabyte file as that is too large.  So, the addtional item in the script is Export file (Ctrl - Shift + R).  To reduce the file I deselect Include areas without slices as it is not needed.  All I want is a flat plain-Jane PNG file.
Problem #2:  Experience has shown me that at times the script still leaves the item checked.  Here is how I know.  The next step occurs in Bridge wherein I apply a metadata template and number followed by one manual change.  When looking at the files if I apply my template it will only apply to some of the images; by no rhyme or reason.  This means I have to reopen those that do not accept the metadata template and re-export from Fireworks.
If I can get my script to work correctly it should be a seemless operation.  As it stands I am forced to manually open each file and run my steps manually.  The final image for this record set is only one (Image 2) of 108 pages.  In the near future I will be running this script on a directory of over 800 images.  That would take a long time to do manually.
Thank you for taking a look at my quandry and I hope you have a viable solution.  I have provided a link below so you can see how the resultant images will be utilized.

P.S.  In checking my posting I see that this forum browser is horsing around with the images.  If need be please download the two images.

  • Question about building a page in fireworks and 403 forbidden

    Hi guys,
Thanks for any input you can give me on this.
I've been trying to recreate a page from our website in fireworks. The page can be located here:
    http://sevenbarfoundation.org/newsletter-mg/general.html
I'm kind of new to this, and I have been able to generally recreate the page in fireworks by copying the images and rebuilding based on dimensions. It is when I try to upload the page that I am running into problems.
Once I have the page looking how I would like it I have exported it and saved it as CSS and images. From there it looks like I should open it in dreamweaver which I have done, but i'm not really sure what to do there. It basically seems like people just use dreamweaver as the FTP client. I have tried this as well as uploading it through my own FTP client, and each time I get a 403 forbidden when I go to look at the page.
Any help here would be great. Just trying to figure out if I am not saving it properly in one of those two programs. It gives me an .htm file, a css file and a png file which I have uploaded onto the server into the folder that I need it to be in. Just keep getting that annoying 403!

First, Dreamweaver is much more than a glorified FTP client! Dreamweaver is a Web site authoring and management application. That is the program you should use to build your HTML, not Fireworks.
Fireworks is a Web layout/design and graphics production application. Fireworks can export HTML or HTML and CSS, but that export ability is intended to create mockups and prototypes, not live sites. The code Fireworks creates is...well...awful. You need to learn how to write HTML from scratch, not let a graphics program write it for you.
The single .png file is also not going to work for you. The page you link to has several separate images. You need to create slices on your Fireworks document and export them as individual images, which you then reference in the HTML.
Here are a couple of good tutorials for beginners:
    http://www.sitepoint.com/article/html-css-beginners-guide/
    http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/design-and-code-your-first-website-i n-easy-to-understand-steps/
This tutorial is on the general theory of slicing. As such, it's helpful: http://www.slicingguide.com/
In Fireworks, you use the slicing tool (looks like a green rectangle), to draw slices over the areas you want to export as individual images. These green rectangles appear in the Web layer. You can set the export properties of each slice separately. When you export, you can export all your images, or just the images from selected slices. And I really haven't said anything, so start with the help files, then post back with specific qustions.
As to your 403 error problem, it's something with the configuration of the server, it has nothing to do with Fireworks or Dreamweaver. Read these articles:
    http://www.checkupdown.com/status/E403.html

  • Photo Gallery in Dreamweaver using Fireworks

How do I add images to a photo gallery that I created in
Dreamweaver using Fireworks? I created a photo gallery and I
changed my background color and other settings, but I need to find
any easier way to add images without messing up my settings. Each
time I add a photo, I don't want to have to change 40+ web pages.
Can someone please help? If there is an easier program to use, then
    I will change programs.
    Thanks for your help!

Sorry in advance if the following comment is missing the
    point of your question.
Ans: You need to export (>File > Export) the image that
you have manipulated in Fireworks to an images folder in your
dreamweaver website. You will be prompted for an optimum file
output (JPEG, GIF etc) during this process. Then close Fireworks
and open DW. Then place your curser at the point in the webpage
where you want to insert the image and then select Menu > Insert
    > Image. Browse to the image that you have created in Fireworks
and press enter. Job done! Fireworks is a fantastic s/w application
... and there's no need to look elsewhere.
