Fireworks Rollovers in CS5

I'm trying to build a new template in Dreamweaver. I designed a Nav bar in PS, and created the rollover functionality in FW (tho that was a whole 'nother can of beans, check out my thread in the PS for Mac thread...) and the HTML files created by FW work great when I open them in a browser, or even in DW itself. But then when I use the Insert>Image Objects>Fireworks HTML file to place the nav bar into my template, I lose the rollover functionality. The graphic loads nicely, but the rollover behaviors, and even the links themselves, no longer work. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

Okay I finally got the server set up in a way that I could host the files.
The one that is broker, upon whic my home page is based is located here: http://bit.ly/cjx4eL
The one that works, which is just the html written by FW, untouched by DW is located here: http://bit.ly/c86OlM
Take a look, and let me know what you think.
Thanks

  • I can't install Fireworks form my CS5 Web Premium files

I've tried ti install Fireworks from my CS5 Web Premium suite and it just won't install. I get a list of errors that seem to show some kind of incompatibility with my existing installations. (Photoshop, dreamweaver, etc).
I have no clue as what to do next. Support chat told me, and this is a quote, "contact us through here: https://forums.adobe.com". It's like being sent into a black pit.
I came to the forums, looked at posts which seemed to fit my problem and was dumbfounded at the lack of support. Question after question, some years old, unanswered and basically ignored. It gives one a feeling of being abandoned and it's killed any brand loyalty I had for Adobe products.  I guess, like Flash, most of Adobe's software offerings are no longer as relevant as the were.

So, after getting support through twitter and trying the recommendations... no luck. There was and exit code 7 which took us down the wrong path.
I did however; finally solve the issue. After reviewing the install log a little closer, I found that the installer was looking for a drive which did not exist. So, I stuck in a USB key, called it the missing drive letter and the installation worked. Funny though, as far as I can tell, no data was installed on the missing drive. It's empty.
Note: I was using the default (windows 7)  install path C:\Program Files\Adobe

  • Opening Fireworks from Dreamweaver CS5

I am trying to open Fireworks CS5 from within Dreamweaver CS5.
When I do I get an error message that says that "Fireworks is unable to be launched or an error has occured"
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I originally tried to open Fireworks (either directly or from Dreamweaver) I got the following message:
"Your user privileges do not allow Fireworks to update your registry. Launch and Edit with Dreamweaver will not work properly unitl Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges."
I got the following advice - Try right-clicking on the Fireworks.exe icon, then select 'Properties', select 'Compatibility' and then under the section 'Privilege Level', put a tick in the box 'Run this program as administrator'.
I have done what was suggested but now every time I open Fireworks I get the same Windows User Account Control message as follows:
"Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer" - Program name Fireworks. When I say yes the program opens OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way everything works OK on my laptop running a Windows XP Pro 32 bit system.

Further to previous posting the error message I get when I try to launch Fireworks from Dreamweaver is:
    "C:\Program Files\(x86)\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS5\Fireworks.exe
Please be sure that this aplication exists and that there is enough memory to run it."
Photoshop launches OK from Dreamweaver. Fireworks is the default image application.

  • How do I update/edit/change an image map in Fireworks CS4 or CS5?

    Hi,
I've created an imagemap in Fw CS4, exported the image + html file, and it works ok.
    1. I closed Fireworks, then ran it again and re-opened the exported PNG, and could see the hotspots, and could edit/update/add/remove them.
    2. I closed Firewoks again, then moved the exported .png image (the original was a PNG as well) and html file to a different folder.
Problem: When I open the (exported) image, I can no longer edit the hotspots. The image map still works (in a browser), however.
Doesn't the HTML file define the hotspots?  How do I update or edit an image map in Fireworks? Do I need to re-import the HTML file somehow? Fw help isn't very helpful on this topic.
I've also found that Fw seems to change the PNG when exporting it. Is it adding some kind of metadata to the exported PNG?
I've made sure the "Show slices and hotspots"  button is on. This is really puzzling!
Environment: Windows XP SP3, Fireworks 10.03.011

    Thanks to you both.
I think I understand what's happened, and yes, I've overwritten my original PNG
sigh. Fireworks doesn't really make this obvious!
That renaming tip is great! We already have a process for making PNGs of marked-up PDFs (so the extension is .pdf.png), so this will fit in just nicely!
    You both ROCK!

  • Fireworks CS5 Error on launch

OSX 10.6.3. Master collection trial download. Fixed permissions recursively on ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe which fixed Dreamweaver and Flash problems. Fireworks wont work though. On launching the problem a dialog comes up (no startup screen) stating "Fireworks can not run. A parameter was incorrect." Any insights on this?

    Sarthak,
If you read through the past messages you can see that the problem is that I
am unable to associate images with either Fireworks CS4 or CS5. CS5
sometimes hangs on launch in Vista. We have tried generating a new admin
user account, uninstalling FW8, reinstalling, and browsing directly to the
fireworks.exe file. Your support person has remote viewed and recorded all
    the failed functions.
Again, I am able to launch either version from the shortcut icon, but it
still does not work in my normal workflow, which is to click images in email
attachments and assemble gif animations for use in web sites. What happens
is that the image opens in a Windows viewer. Copy and paste from there into
Fw does not function so I must then save the image to the desktop, launch
Fireworks and browse to the desktop location. Dragging the image into
Firefox is not always reliable. Once inside Fireworks, I must constantly
float image windows in order to assemble them into a gif animation. All in
all, Fireworks in the present form fails to fit into my normal web design
workflow. Macromedia knew much better how to write this program. It was
never intended to be another Illustrator or Photoshop.

  • Is Adobe planning on fixing memory issues or are they hoping Fireworks will go away?

When trying to use Fireworks for larger sites, we (and a lot of other people we talk to) have always had issues with Fireworks crashing (Mac and PC).
We try to split files when working on larger sites but if you use a lot of symbols, updating them is really slow - often slower than saving files and it doesn't stop the crashing.
I realise people might say we're asking for trouble designing pages that are 3000px - 4000px long but long scrolling pages often work well (http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html http://www.kaleidoscopeapp.com/) and we find ourselves designing more and more of them.
When using Fireworks every day, you have to wonder if Adobe would prefer everyone switch to Photoshop - does anyone know what their plans are for Fireworks?
Practical suggestions for stopping the crashes would also be great!
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks Jim,
We saw a dot release for Fireworks with the CS5.5 Suite
When I looked at CS5.5 I didn't see Fireworks - totally missed that!
Can you tell me, are you designing multi-page files at these dimensions? If not - good. If so, I would question why, considering that you need to move to Dreamweaver or another web editor to create the actual final site.
Wherever possible, we actually wireframe then design directly in HTML/CSS but on bigger sites, we use developers who like Fireworks files. Plus on the bigger sites, corporate clients often prefer seeing how key pages will look/flow with content in them before they go out for coding.
In these situations, we've tried both multi-page documents and single page documents. But with a lot of symbols, it's actually quicker to reduce the undos to 1, use multi-page docs and gingerly save after every change! We've found updating lots of symbols across multiple docs painfully slow.
Again, I am making a lot of assumptions here, so please forgive that.
    No worries!
Also keep in mind that the MAXIMUM page dimension for a new Fireworks document is 6000 pixels. And it sounds like you're getting awfully close to it. FW does not have the same kiknd of memory management features that Photoshop has.
I guess this is the crux of the issue. We can load up the file size in Photoshop but Fireworks has so many features targeted to web design that it's hard to use Photoshop for this purpose.
I thought I'd read somewhere that Fireworks will only ever use 2GB of ram and I've noticed a similar thing in Activity Monitor - Fireworks seems to only ever take about 1.98GB of ram. However this is pure speculation and I don't know this for sure.
Anyway, thanks for the replies. I guess I was curious to see if anyone had heard what Adobe might be planning as the memory issue is surely well known to them - and it's obviously a conscious decision to not allow Fireworks to access more.
    Unless CS5.5 addresses this?
    Cheers

  • Fireworks CS6

I discover a problem or bug in Fireworks CS6 while ago , posted in Fireworks forum  - no answer…report it like a bug to adobe – no answer,….call to technical support,…after been on hold ,described all info, on hold again, I got answer:  report it like a bug on adobe side  and support forum ,,,,,when I told support person , that I did that already, he told me, nothing else he can do for me…
I just guessing,  nobody give a s….t anymore, nowhere, and that seems to be a problem in all around us, that is why economy sucks and…..
I am old enough to still remember old good times, when people still care and if you call from English speaking country, you got help speaking English..
Anyway, problem is, if you create a new document, and create a small slice in the middle, then create a hot spot bigger then that slice, and preview it in MS explorer, you will see some blue borders, frames around slices. Google Chrome or Safari is OK.
You can just create only hot spot in empty document, and it happened too, just first description is better to see.
And old Fireworks is OK, CS5…………….
No big deal for me, just have to use CS5,…just try to help developers fix bags….if they care…
This is document how it look in Fireworks:
    And here is explorer:

    Rudy,
You've already made progress in isolating the problem: It occurs in CS6 but not in CS5. A good strategy would be to create a simple file in CS5, and then export it twice: first in CS5 and then again in CS6. When it comes to HTML output, the answer should be somewhere in the code. Compare the two versions. Use Dreamweaver's code view, or use the View Source option that's available in most web browsers.
I tried this myself, using a simple Fireworks file containing just a single slice. I used the default export options for both CS5 and CS6, then opened both HTML files in Firefox and used its View Source option.
This first graphic below shows the HTML output from CS5. The second shows the HTML output from CS6.
See the difference? The CS5 version is riddled with border="0" attributes on every img tag. The CS6 version omits these attributes. Believe it or not, the CS6 version is probably better, from a contemporary coding standpoint. The use of style attributes on HTML tags (as in CS5) is deprecated in favor of using CSS rules. But then again, the use of slices, in general, is not a contemporary, standards-based method of web development—except, perhaps, in small doses.
The good news: If you're looking for an easy fix for this, I think I've got one for you. Within Fireworks CS6, go to File > HTML Setup... and then under the HTML Style dropdown menu, select "Generic XHTML" instead of Dreamweaver XHTML. (Or choose Generic HTML.) This seems to bring back the border="0" attributes. And once you've made this change, it should become the new default for all your Fireworks CS6 documents.
The bad news: Web development is a constantly moving target. When creating web designs and converting them to code, you're creating instructions for a design rather than the design itself. Each web browser has a tendency to interpret those instructions slightly differently. That's why Internet Explorer is showing you blue borders, where Google Chrome is not.
I wouldn't trust Fireworks as a resource for contemporary web development practices. It's pretty much behind the times. But that doesn't mean it's not good for some things—like design, or certain aspects of the development process. And it's evolving, too.
Much in line with Linda's suggestion (and my own on your previous post), you could instead opt to address this problem by adding a small CSS declaration to the existing style tag within the head of your HTML document, something like this:
    <style type="text/css">
        td img {display: block; border: 0;}
    </style>
However, this would require modifying the code directly—and may require a bit of tweaking and experimentation—which may not be your preference. So my first suggestion might work better for you.
Hope this helps. My fee for this consultation will be two bottles of scotch.

  • Is it possible to design a website completely in Fireworks?

Just wondering if this is possible I used to be a engineering designer (& learned dozens of progams while in the field) & I'm trying to help my buddy with his new business building a website. I have no desire or need to learn code. Fireworks seems easy & I was wondering if it was possible to design a complete website in it?
I'm almost done with his site I exported it as html & images in Fw's CS5 the only problem I'm having is the layout is fixed. I clicked on the center button under the export options but it doesn't do anything?
I would also like the parts (header, nav buttons, images, & text boxes) to change as a proportion of the browser/screen size (I believe this is called flexible) but remain overall centered on all the pages.
Thanks for helping out the newbie, please let me know how I can return the favor it would be my pleasure.
    -Brandon

I am re-designing our company's Website using (in order) PhotoShop CS5, Flash (with f4v fullscreen capable video), Fireworks and Dreamweaver CS5. I have always admired the appearance of websites created by graphic artists as opposed to non-artistic "code heads".  It is of course important that the site does not contain code errors or an oddball configuration that will cause it to fall apart when viewed in browsers like, Wheezer Von Hacktule's Web Shredder etc.  I'm a video editor, and can't be bothered with the quantum properties of a pixel and edit from the pixel on up as some of the code heads do.  And their sites look like it.  Look at some of the sites regulars in the Dreamweaver forum have put together... sorry to be a critic.
Trust me, unless you are designing Websites for a bank or some top secret government project, the visual design method IS the most quick and straight forward. Yes CSS.
Without going into a lot of detail:
You start your design with PhotoShop, carefully name your layers (lowercase and use underscores) and put them in order.  Make sure to include "white space" between your graphic elements.  When you are happy with the appearance, open the PSD with Fireworks.  Using the shape tool in Fireworks, create your divs. Give them names like top_head and side_buttons etc. and keep the shape "divs" on the lower layers in Fireworks just above your background.  Run the shapes to the outside edge of your design BUT allow space of about 5 pixels between the divs, keeping them separate. Use the slice tool to tell Fireworks what your exported images are going to be.  Be sure to name them in the Fireworks layer pallette.  Be careful that nothing overlaps the div shape container and that no slice overlaps on to another.  You can better see this by zooming way in on your design.  BTW Fireworks optimizes images for the Web, much better than PhotoShop.  Optimize each image according to its type, photographic, use jpeg, clip art-like images use gif.
Don't "slice" text areas you want to remain HTML text as opposed to an image of text.  Fireworks will automatically create that area as text upon export.
Export from Fireworks as CSS and images.
Open your html page in Dreamweaver.  Some things will be out of alignment.  That is where knowledge of CSS comes in.  Do your refinements in Dreamweaver.  You may need to go back to Fireworks and make some changes, then re-export.
OK, so I created a rather complex design and I saved it as a template.  I uploaded the design to our server and checked it in Adobe Browserlab as well as the W3C Markup Validation page.  No alignment errors across many browsers and zero code errors at the W3C Markup Validation page.

  • BUG: Channel-based blend modes in FW CS5 & CS6

I've observed problems with some of the blend modes in Fireworks CS5 and CS6. Several are definitely broken—most likely a by-product of changes introduced in CS5, which attempted to match some of Photoshop's blend mode behaviors (for Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity).
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/bbowman_fwcs5.html
The broken blend modes are the channel-based blend modes: Red, Green, and Blue. These have no counterpart in Photoshop, and yet no longer function properly.
To illustrate the problem, I've created a simple test graphic: three white squares, three black squares, three bitmaps, and three colored squares (red, green, and blue).
Now I'll add a black background to the canvas and apply a different channel-based blend mode—Red, Green, and Blue—to each object in its respective group. Here's the correct result, in Fireworks 8:
As you can see, each object appears to be the same color as its applied blend mode. A white rectangle with a Red blend mode becomes red, with a Green blend mode becomes green, and with a Blue blend mode becomes blue.
The way it works is this: The composite image adopts the selected channel of the object and combines it with the remaining channels of the canvas (or objects) below. For example, consider the white rectangle with a Red blend mode. The rectangle's Red channel (R:255) should be combined with the remaining channels of the canvas below (G:0,B:0) to create a composite with the appearance of red (R:255,G:0,B:0).
Now here's the same graphic as it appears in both Fireworks CS5 and CS6:
As you can see, there's no sense to this result. The Red blend mode produces Green, the Green blend mode produces Red, and the Blue blend mode produces invisibility. I simply cannot explain the outcome. These blend modes have been rendered useless and unintelligible in CS5 and CS6.
The reason for my concern here is that, just over a year ago, I wrote a series of command scripts based on these blend modes as they existed Fireworks 8. Without these blend modes, my scripts cannot function.
Assuming there are updates forthcoming for Fireworks CS6, I'm hoping there's a chance that this might still be fixed (if not for CS5, as well). Here's the bug report I've submitted regarding this issue:
    Product name: Fireworks
    Product Version: 11.1.0.205 (CS5.1)/12.0.0.236 (CS6)
    Product Language: English
    Your operating system: OS 10.6.8
    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement: Channel-based blend modes (Red, Green, and Blue) are broken in Fireworks CS6 and CS5.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Set canvas to black.
    2. Draw 3 white rectangles of any size.
    3. Set blend mode of 1st rectangle to Red, 2nd rectangle to Green, 3rd rectangle to Blue.
Results: 1st rectangle appears Green (instead of Red). 2nd rectangle appears Red (instead of Green). 3rd rectangle becomes invisible (instead of Blue).
Expected results: Each rectangle should appear to be the same color as its applied blend mode, as the composite adopts the selected channel of the object and combines it with the remaining channels of the canvas (or objects) below.
In the preceding example, the black canvas contains no channel information (R:0,G:0,B:0) while the white rectangles contain information in all 3 channels (R:255,G:255,B:255). When a Red blend mode is applied to a white rectangle, the object's Red channel (R:255) should be combined with the remaining channels of the canvas below (G:0,B:0) to create a composite with the appearance of red (R:255,G:0,B:0).
Most likely, this bug was introduced in CS5, which included modifications to Hue, Saturation, Color and Luminosity blend modes (to match Photoshop). For comparison, proper RGB blend mode behavior was observed in Fireworks 8.
For more information about this bug, please see the following post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1209542

I haven't noticed changes in the way the blend modes work.
It's possible you have a specific problem on your system, or you have an image with a color space that uses a different gamma than you're used to working in.  In the latter case, the math could be the same but if the representation of the colors is changed (which is what the color profile defines) you could get a radically different looking result.
Maybe it would be useful to post some screen grabs, and ideally it would be great if you could post a copy of a PSD file that demonstrates the problem (i.e., looks different when opened in an older version of Photoshop than in Photoshop CS6).
EDIT:  Looks like I was too late in answering; I was distracted after typing and before posting.

  • Path palette: What's wrong with "path share" and "path exclude"?

Hi everybody. First of all: Sorry for my english, but I hope someone can understanding me.
Well, I want to work with Fireworks in the future because I think that this programm keep in some situation more efficience as Photoshop... So I was trying to learn how this programm is working.
Since some days I make some experiments with Path's, because I like to work with Illustrator as well. But now, I am still going crazy because I don't understanding 2 options. I don't know the english names but In the path palette does they have this Icons:
The first option (Pfade teilen) is "path share" and the second one (Pfade ausschließen) is free translate "path exclude"
My question is: When I can use this 2 Options? I really did everything but nothing was working

Thanks for posting about this issue! I've taken a look at the "Combine Paths" operations in the Paths panel in both Fireworks CS6 and CS5 on my Mac, and noticed several bugs. Between you and I, here's a summary of what we've found:
    Fireworks CS6, Version 12.0.0.236, WIN, 7, 64 Bit, SP 1
Exclude Paths - Does not work.
Fireworks CS6, Version 12.0.0.236, Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
Divide Paths - No effect on rectangles.
Exclude Paths - Requires 2 clicks for rectangles - one to ungroup rectangles and another to apply path operation.
Fireworks CS5, Version 11.1.0.205, Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
Divide Paths - Works like Exclude Paths.
Undo - Deletes previous unrelated non-path operation. For example:
    Draw two ellipses.
    Draw a rectangle.
Select two ellipses and apply Combine Paths operation.
    Undo (Command-Z).
    The rectangle disappears!
You can submit a bug report to Adobe about the "Exclude Paths" issue, and include the URL for this discussion within your report:
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
In the meantime, I'm going to send an e-mail to the developer about these issues. I know that he's working on a fix for another problem with this panel and planning on releasing a fix at some point, so hopefully these issues can get fixed as well.
Again, thanks for being so persistent. It is challenging to understand your writing at times; however, the animated GIF was very helpful—and very well done. Have you tried composing your posts in your native language and then using something like Google Translate to convert it to English? I don't know if the results would be better; it's just an idea.

  • Drag and drop not working in CS6?

Hey guys, we recently updated to Fireworks CS6 (from CS5) @ work and while I do love the speed upgrade, there is one thing different that I cannot get past, I cannot drag and drop a document onto the Fireworks menu bar, I need to Open > File every time, its time consuming and frustrating... why would you drop this feature in CS6? :| Am I missing something?

Ah, so it does work in Fireworks CS6—just not on your setup at work. Again, is this a Mac or Windows OS?
After re-reading your initial post, I realized I'm not clear on what you mean by dragging and dropping a document "onto the Fireworks menu bar". I was initally picturing dragging a document onto the Fireworks application icon in the Mac OS dock (or the Windows equivalent to this, if there is one).
Are you actually talking about the command menu that appears across the top of the application interface? If so, I can't open a document using this method in either CS5 or CS6.
