Fireworks Text and Vectors Blurring

I always have this issue to think about text and vector handling of adobe fireworks....Look at these images
this text on the left has beeen compressed at jpeg settings of 80...and the other one at 90...text in the first image looks blurry and if zoomed in ,,one see some dark blurry shades or something....same is the case with the borders on the red rectange ....With the 90 compression...result is much better but image size increases a lot...Also there are times when the same shades appear around the edges of rectangles etc also...
I read this article
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/217/d6f2172a.html.... so is it of any help in this regard?
and text in photoshop at even 70 compression look better than in fireworks...Adobe claims to be using photoshop like text engine in fireworks cs4 but i am having this problem in cs4 version as well...I hope some gurus out here will help me out.

What you're seeing has nothing to do with the article you linked to.
JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. The file format was designed for photographs or images where the luminance and color information varies slowly from one pixel to another. The compression technique represents the luminance and color information as a mathematical function, but it throws out the detail terms, according to the level of compression. The more compression/lower quality, the more detail representation is thrown out. This is why the format is called "lossy." You lose information when you save to this format. The less you compress an image (higher quality), the less information is lost, but the larger the file is. There's no one optimal compression level, each image must be optimized according to its own content.
In CS4, Fireworks is using the Photoshop text engine, but this is not the same as the export engine.
The design you have is not a photograph and the information does not vary slowly from one pixel to another in the essential areas. In fact, you have hard edges - around the text and at the borders. The JPEG compression scheme is not good at edges, unless you set the compression low/quality high.
In general, a graphic (non-photographic) image, is better off as a .gif or .png. Given that you have a gradient background behind your text, you might try a PNG24. Be careful when you export that you don't use the same name as your Fireworks source file. (One tip I picked up from this forum is to name my working Fireworks documents with.fw.png and then use the plain .png for the flattened, exported files.)

  • Best settings to export text and vectors?

    please guide me in my frustration.
    I'm trying to make a title screen and I find that if I import vectors from AI, the export quality is terrible no matter the settings.
    I created a test file in both AI and Premiere Pro.
    AI
    Premiere Pro comp
    exported & captured at 100%
    if I import the AI file into AE and export as an uncompressed avi, I get the following result
    however if I import that into premiere and export, it's worse than any of the examples above.
    I'm clearly missing something, but a week's worth of searching hasn't turned up anything that I haven't already tried.
    I've tried using high quality PSD's, PNG, TIFF and nothing improves the quality.
    I have the same problem with text.
    thanks

    OK, I am going to keep track of my steps in this response.
    First I created a 4K file in Illustrator CC 2014. Then I slapped some text and some boxes and circles on the screen. Like this:
    Obviously the nice clean lines you expect from vector graphics.
    So then I exported that image from Illustrator as a PSD. The next step was to import it as is into Premiere Pro CC 2014, just to see how it looks on a 1920X1080 timeline. I imported it as a sequence but I suppose I could have flattened it. I also imported one of the videos from my codec testing that was 1920X1080 at 23.976 fps. I used that to create the sequence.
    This is a partial screen shot of how it looks in Premiere Pro in the Program Monitor at 100%. What I did was to use the new Set to Frame Size which automatically resized it using the Motion effect to 10.9 percent of scale.
    As far as I can tell the straight lines are perfect, the curved look fine, and the text? Well, not exactly perfect, but probably acceptable. A drop shadow would probably help.
    So the next step is to export it to H.264 and play it on my TV using a thumb drive. If that looks OK, I will upload it to YouTube.
    While I am waiting for it to export, I can tell you that the size I used for the Illustrator file was way too large. I only wanted to make things about four times too big, not 9 times as big. That is something you will have to decide for yourself. Just how big does it need to be so that when it is scaled down it looks good in Premiere Pro. Too large is just going to slow things down.
    It played OK on my TV. Not great, but OK. So I uploaded it to YouTube and it looked OK too. Play it back at 1080p and it looks sharp enough. Not perfect, but sharp enough for most things.
    I think that the only way to really test this is with the real logos..
    The export settings looked like this:

  • How to make clipping mask with text and vector pattern?

    Hey there guys, any help would be greatly appreciated. Im making a logo for a client and am having a nightmare of a time trying to properly use the clipping masks in illustrator CS5. I copied and pasted the  logo I made behind itself with a different color just for a drop shadow-like effect. And now I'm trying to apply this diagonal line pattern I created over top the "shadow" I made to give it some texture.
    Here's an example of what I'm going for, only imagine the line pattern on the text instead of banner

    Eric,
    As I (mis)understand it, you can either keep the Type live (or outline it) and:
    1) Create one copy of the pattern for each Type object (this will give you the opportunity of having different(ly coloured) patterns;
    2) For each Type object, select the type object and one of the patterns and Object>Clipping Path>Make;
    or you can:
    1) Select both Type objects and Type>Create Outlines, then Object>Compound Path>Make;
    2) Select the compound object and the pattern and Object>Clipping Path>Make.

  • Placing Illustrator and InDesign Files, Importing text and forms into Library

    Firstly, is there any way at all to maintain the working elements of an Illustrator or Indesign file if placing in Muse, is it even possible?
    Example: I have a fully created website layout with text boxes and vector images saved in Illustrator.
    I'm wondering, can this be bumped to Muse using the 'Library' feature as a whole, as elements like the contact form were in the Katie's Cafe tutorial?
    I understand how that works for singular images, but is it at all possible with a complex image that contains both text and vector, or does this image need to be sliced up and saved as individual elements. Is there anyway to extract the text boxes from Illustrator or InDesign as they are? How are working text boxes created in InDesign as mentioned in the Katie's Cafe tutorial?
    Thanks so much in advance, and sorry if this is totally obvious!

    Hm, okay.
    How would I know if the file is corrupt?
    Well, you often don't, until it crashes and is unrecoverable. Then it's too late. But "insanely swollen file size" is a symptom. However, I can't know if your file size is reasonable or not, depends on the content, and it sounds like your content is pretty heavyweight. For instance - I thought it was possilbe to strip out custom brushes when saving AI files to bring file size down. I've never touched an AI file that was too large because of the number of swatches. So, depending on how much you have in there, then maybe your two-gig file isn't on the verge of crashing and burning.
    I did inherit it, but have since used it as a template and "saved as" various versions. I'm not really sure if it started in 5 or not.
    Cool trick: Click on Help, then hold down Control when you click on About. This will take you to a "Component Information" screen, and in the lower-left-hand corner you can see the Document History. So you can learn if you inherited a file that started in CS5. Or in CS3, or in PageMaker.
    General best-practices as recommended by forum regulars is to finish a file in the format in which it started. If a file has to be moved from an older version to a newer version, then exporting IDML or INX before moving is advised. This is because of a lot of anecdotal evidence that opening up old files in newer versions and then doing a bunch of work is correlated with file corruption.
    I have not tried to export-to-IDML-and-reopen, but I certainly will. What does this do exactly?
    Well, it'll do a bunch of different things. It'll reinterpret the file format, which can strip out corruption. It'll strip out all image previews. If there is cruft in your file, then this will probably remove it.

  • If I'm copying text and/or vector elements from Indesign to Photoshop how come their pixel sizes change even though I opened the same sized document and my indesign file is a web file?

    >my indesign file is a web file
    Pardon?
    Or do you mean that, when you created a new document, you choose Web as intent maybe?

  • After Effects - CC Vector Blur and  Fractal Noise Rendering Issue CS3

    Hey,
    I am using After Effects for animation. I have drawn everything in Illustrator, imported into AE and added some effects like CC Vector Blur and Fractal Noise to generate water-like textures.
    My problem: when I render as an image sequence (or video, or PSD), I don't get the effect. I'm assuming I don't have it properly set up for rendering and I am wondering how I can fix this.
    I have precomposed water layers (which are three different layers; a blue solid overlay; and two masked layers with added effects) and added motion blur. Given this is the problematic area, I am also assuming this is where the problem is.
    Any advice! Or else I'm screen shot-ing every frame.......ugghh.

  • Hp c7180. Test page has got lines across text and colours.

    My Hp photosmart c7180 is not printing to a good quality.
    My problems started when the cleaning mechanism was not able to go back to the home position and this then caused the print head to slam up to the cleaning mechanism (there is two plastic tabs that it hit). I then went inside the machine and found that the cleaning mechanism is on a runner with the rubber and a few other things. I freed up this mechanism and got it to slide up and down several times. i then put the machine back together printed a test page and the inks were very faint. After cleaning the head and doing an alignment several times, the inks are becoming more clear but still not right. There is a lot of lines through the text and the blocks of colour.
    I did a print of a page of small text and the quality was fine. I printed a picture in greyscale and it has greens and reds in it. Also the larger text is blurred on some lines (not all the text on the same line is blurred)
    What do i do now ??
    There is also a roller that is spinning more than it used to. This is located underneath the print head towards the back of the printer.( It is connected to the little cogs on the left which pump the ink to the heads i think) Any suggestions on this would also be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks

    Thank you for the detailed post rileyc.
    I would like to help you with the printing issue you are experiencing. I understand the issue seems to be related to the ink system or potentially the driver. The best plan of attack is to narrow down the root cause.
    Can you please perform a colour copy that contains black spots too? I would like to see if the printer hardware can duplicate a page without any quality issues. Please let me know the outcome of the copy and we can go from there. Thanks

  • Replacing bitmap text with vector graphic text

    In a layout for an ebook I have some important black and white bitmap illustrations in tiff., 300 dpi. These have appeared ok on print, but on screen, reading the same pdf-file, they´re unacceptable, especially some texts in fontsize 5-6 pt are unclear. People tell me I have to convert the drawings, or at least the texts, to vector graphics.
    Question: Can I open these tiff.s in Photoshop, change only the texts to vector graphics and then save in a format, that can be inserted in the Word2010 layout? (You might wonder why I use Word, but it was a question of economy, when the project was started up). Or are there other ways? Thanks for any answers!

    You are right, there are no layers, some geometric shapes with texts in and around. It´s possible to mark or lassoe the bits of text, since spaces were made in the figures for the texts. And then delete them, and then insert new ones. That will be in another layer, I guess, but from that point I don´t know what to do :-)

  • Pixelated text and graphics in MacBook Pro Retina

    Why are text and graphics in pixelated in Numbers and iBooks applications, to name two, on the MacBook Pro Retina? All updates have been downloaded.

    Clinton- The problem is that the way things are setup is a bit confusing. Apple doesn't let us use the actual full resolution of 2880 x 1800, in relateive size. There is a hack to see the screen at full native resolution, and it's unbelievably small. So what they do is use the pixels, but use 4 vs 1, and thus they make the UI look like it would look as standard 1440 x 900 display. I have an old 15" and looking at both, the UI is the same relative size on the screen. However the retina is using more pixels to make the same physical size.
    Now, Apple also lets apps use 1:1 within their "working area." For instance, if you view a graphic on a web page, it shows it doubled, and pixelated. But if you drag that image to the desktop then open in Preview, preview will show it half size of Safari, but in actual resolution. it's sharp, but half the size of Safari, as Safari is doubling it. So apps can take advantage of that but will have to be updated. Pixelmator isn't updated, and graphics/text/vectors are blurry in their work area, but once you save/export, and view in preview, they are perfect.
    So there is going to be a lot of strange stuff going on until everyone gets on the same page.
    I did find you can view Pages/Numbers with better resolution (just not icons) by right-clicking "get info" and unchecking open in low resolution. But Pages acts weird. I will post a screenshot in a minute about what I mentioend about apps using the native resolution within work spaces.

  • Changes to text and swatch file

    After creating a text frame for a photo caption I copied and pasted to the text frame from the caption used in the photo's file name rather than type it directly in the text frame.  The result that was added to the text frame was blurred letters that seem to have a shadow to them rather than the crisp black letters.  My symbols in the Swatch file seem to have changed and I can't seem to get them to back to normal.  Previously I had 3 symbols--a frame, paper and letters.  Now I have only paper and letters.  Any suggestions on how I fix this?  I am using InDesign CS4

    To add to my previous message. If you really want to get fancy, create your own messages file. You can reference that message file by specifing it in any custom code. For instance, I created one that is used for custom navigation. Instead of hard coding the name and description of the custom navigation, I created an xml file that contained the values. Using plumtrees own Resource manager, you can read from any xml file as long as it is formatted correctly.
    Here is a code snippet
    publicclassNavTypeBankersBankMain : INavTypes
    publicint_ui_nav_id = 202;
    publicconstString PORTALCOMMONMSGS = "ptmsgs_bankersbankbrowsingmsgs";
    publicNavTypeBankersBankMain() : base()
    #regionINavTypes Members
    ///<summary>
    ///Get the ID of the current navigation.
    ///</summary>
    ///<returns>ID of navigation</returns>
    publicintGetID()
    return_ui_nav_id;
    ///<summary>
    ///Gets the name of the navigation scheme to be displayed in the subportal list of navigation.
    ///</summary>
    ///<param name="_strLangID">Language to be applied.</param>
    ///<returns>The name of the navigation.</returns>
    publicstringGetName(string_strLangID)
    IApplication application = ApplicationManager.GetInstance().GetApplication(AppConstants.MAIN_APPLICATION_NAME.ToString());
    XPResourceManager rm = (XPResourceManager) application.GetCachingManager().GetEntry("ResourceManager");
    returnrm.GetString(0, PORTALCOMMONMSGS, _strLangID);
    The bold text is what is used for the custom messages. The only problem is keeping up with where custom strings are used.

  • Lining some divs up, one with a fireworks html and another with a jQuery slideshow

    I am having an issue lining two divs up within a div.  One div has a fireworks html in it (by the way, I can't figure out why that the button states arent' working.  I inserted the code via the insert menu > image objects > fireworks html, but for some reason the button states work.  When I open the navbar.htm in the file browser, it opens it up in dreamweaver and it works perfectly in live preview).  The other div has a simple jQuery slideshow.  I have these two divs in a greater overall div named "div id=wrapper".  How can I line these up so that the nav div and body div are flush against each other within the wrapper div?
    I plan on putting additional divs above and below the wrapper div for more content.  If anyone has insight on why the fireworks html isnt working when inserted, that would be great!!

  • Trouble with mass amount of text and clipping mask - please help!

    I have a curvy vector image that I want text to appear in, then create a clipping mask. When I try this I get a message saying that the text object is extremely complex and might not print. The file is impossible to move around and sometimes crashes my machine.
    Here is a screen cap of what I'm doing:
    http://www.aaronpenton.net/mask.html
    I blocked all the text so there's just a ton of it.
    This is for a large graphic (22') that will be placed on glass.
    Is there a better way to do this? Or a way of making the file more manageable ?
    Any help is much appreciated.

    >I have a curvy vector image that I want text to appear in, then create a clipping mask.
    Inaccurate description. You are using the text as a clipping mask for the image. That's a lot of text, which means a very complex compound path with tens of thousands of points. No wonder this is slowing things down.
    Try using the text as an opacity mask instead, then flatten transparency. Keep a copy of the text and a copy of the wave on hidden layers so you can go back and edit the text or modify the path.

  • JPEG crashes Fireworks, Illustrator, and AGS,  but not Photoshop

    I have a feeling that the problem has to do with JPEG
    metadata but I'm not sure what to look for. So far I've found that
    the JPEG causes Fireworks, Illustrator, and Adobe Graphics Sever to
    hang. It's especially bad since when AGS goes down a dependent
    public web application hangs too.
    The file works as expected in Photoshop, Acrobat, browsers,
    and other apps. I'm pretty sure it's not infected since it passed
    my virus scanner.
    Could someone take a look at the JPEG and let me know if you
    find anything? You can download it from my webserver.
    Download
    problem image

    Well, my NOD32 antivirus says it's okay.
    I opened the file in my text editor's binary mode, and
    there's a "copyright (c) 1998 Hewlett-Packard Company" that I don't
    see anywhere in the file info in Photoshop (
    screen
    capture). I wonder if the header is just messed up, somehow.
    Maybe missing some delimiters so some records are larger than
    expected. Can you re-save from the original?
    I did a quick search for apps that would display the header
    info, and found
    a developer's
    demo code project, but I think it's just source code.
    Sorry I'm not very helpful.

  • HP Photo Creations - where's the text and graphics tabs?

    I downloaded V 3.5  HOwever I can't seem to find the tabs for text, graphics, etc. All I can find is touchup, crop, red eye, and one or two others. But where is the text and graphics, and the other cool ones.?  I'm sure I downloaded 3.5.
    melodee007

    Hi Melodee.
    The additional editing tools appear with collage projects. When you choose basic prints, you'll see only the touchup tools (crop, image adjustments, red-eye, airbrush, tint).
    In other words, to add text, borders, and graphics, choose Collage Prints instead of Prints. This link will take you there:
    Collage Prints
    There are quite a few cool effects in the touchup section, though.
    Under Image Adjustments, click Advanced Controls at the bottom of the screen to try the Posterize effect.
    Under Airbrush Effects, try the Rub Through, Blur, and Monochrome brushes.
    Rub Through loads a photo in the background that's slowly revealed as you paint over the original photo. Blur is good for toning down distracting elements in your picture, making a snapshot look like a photo taken with a fancy lens. The photo below uses both those plus the Monochrome Brush.
    Hope this helps,

  • Soft/Haze text and grapics on LED LCDs with Firefox 4

    Hello,
    Ever since I started using Firefox 4 I had this problem. The text and are kind of very soft and blurred when viewed from a LED LCD. I initially thought this must be an isolated problem until I checked it with another brand new laptop.
    It too had the same problem. And it really irritates me. And I can clearly see the difference when viewing the same web page from different browsers on the same PC.
    You can even eliminate a graphic card issue as both of the laptops I tested use different graphics (vendor and models).
    I don't know how many others faced this issue, but I would suggest looking into this.

    I don't know how successful the images are but they show the difference I mean. One is taken from Chrome and the other from Firefox 4.
    Edit:
    Just previewed the images from FF, the difference is even more. Check this same page from another browser or an older version of FF.
