Fireworks to Dreamweaver CS3

When creating a sliced image in Fireworks with simple
rollover behavior AND linking that slice to another page within the
same [Dreamweaver] directory, opening in a different frame....the
link does not work. Fireworks html and images exported to DW, once
in DW setup a 2 frame page set, top frame holds exported Firworks
html, etc,. Rollovers work great, however once clicked the
associated page does not display in the lower frame. In DW all
properties are ported over from FW fine and are as follows: Link
points to the correct html page as indicated in FW before the
export, target is mainFrame, as indicated in FW. Upon display the
rollover images work fine howeverr the link does not work, nothing
is displayed in the frame, however in the system tray, you can
clearly see the correct path to the page--it just will not display.
If I do this all manually in DW works fine, but is more efficient
from FW...if only it worked. Any suggestions?

I didn't know anyone was still using frame sets! My
suggestion would be
that you use a different solution. Here's an article that
explains why
frames are bad.

I use DWCS4 and FWsCS3 and haven't had any problems.
I do have the latest version of FWs, however, find it a real
resource hog and found that I had to
restart this version more times during the day than I ever
did with FWs CS3. So now I use the older
    version rather than the latest.
I can run FWs CS3 for 2+ days straight without having any
"low memory" errors, but the latest
version will stop responding after a few hours. Apparently
Adobe is looking into this, but when a
fix will be found is unknown.
I don't believe you'll have any problems combining versions.

The lastest DW is better than the last, as most new releases
are, but it's really up to you whether
you see the value in updating. Have a look at the Adobe site
and check out the new features and
then decide whether the upgrade is worth it for you :-)

  • Dreamweaver CS3 & Fireworks MX

I am creating a website using Fireworks MX and Dreamweaver
CS3. I have a source file in Dreamweaver that was created in FW.
When I click the "Edit" button in DW to edit the .png file, another
instance of FW is started. The FW program is already open, but the
edit still starts another instance of it. How can I get DWto
recognize that FW is already running and open the document in the
existing FW window? Is this because I'm using an older version of
FW? This is really annoying especially because it usually fails to
open the program anyway. I get an error message "Could Not Launch
Fireworks, Not enough memory". If I close Fireworks every time,
it's not a problem, but I shouldn't have to do that.
Help with this will be GREATLY appreciated.

Maybe someone else can help you out with this because you are
going to need to do the following steps and I just don't know where
the log file is saved on the Windows side:
    1. Get the log file that the installer makes
    2. Come back to this website and click on Your Account at the
    top of the screen.
    3. Log in and click on Customer Support Portal
    4. Open up a support ticket. When you do there should be a
way to upload a file to their FTP server for them to evaluate.
Follow their steps exactly and upload your log file (it would be a
good idea to rename your log file with at least your username).
Then once you have done that wait for a response. They will
be able to tell you exactly where the installer is failing by
looking at the logs. It normally takes about 1-3 business days for
them to respond though. It might not be as quick as a phone call,
but if they don't know where the problem is, it is best to give
them as much information as possible.

  • DreamWeaver CS3 Web Photo Gallery Help

I bought the Adobe Web Design package to put together a good
(hope springs eternal) Web site to showcase about 60 oil paintings
that are presently available at different poster sites. I am a
novice to DreamWeaver; started my basic web page. I now need to add
the photos in 6 different galleries - landscapes, waterscapes, etc.
I assumed I was going to do this in Photoshop CS3/Fireworks and
import it to the site I am building with DreamWeaver, but 2
    problems confront me:
    (1) I could not find a Photoshop CS3 photo gallery template
that allows for a text paragraph adjacent to a larger image when
clicking on thumbnails laid out on the side or the bottom of the
    page, or am I wrong?
    (2) It appears that Photoshop CS3 generates an independent
web page for the photo gallery - is it even possible to import a
photoshop cs3 web gallery into an existing DreamWeaver CS3 web
    page?
Appreciate any info in this area. Thanks.

Dunno as I do not have CS3; but I've used Photoshop a lot to
    generate
galleries, then I modify them. I think your main sticking
    point is
that you haven't found a Photoshop gallery that is close to
    what you
    want, is that correct?

What's to import? Photoshop outputs web pages and DW edits
    web pages.

  • Frame Overlapping in Dreamweaver CS3

i am using dreamweaver CS3 and imported a menu of fireworks. then i used frames left frame, and right frame. in left frame i inserted menu and i linked the drag drop menu to my right frame. so in the whole i want a drag drop manu in left(which is freeze) n changes occur in the right. but now i am facing problem in overlapping of frames. my menu is cut off which i want to be visible at the right.so i want you to provide me a solution how to prevent overlapping of frames or an alternate to it.
    Thanks
    Rajeev.

Don't use frames.  Frames were a popular choice among new web designers in the mid-1990's but not anymore.  HTML5 no longer supports framesets. They are tricky to work with and they make site pages very hard for site visitors to use.
    http://apptools.com/rants/framesevil.php
To give your site pages a consistent appearance, use Dreamweaver Templates, Server-side Includes and/or Library Items.

  • Attaching links to buttons exported into dreamweaver CS3 ?

    Hi everyone,
I want to create five seperate buttons in Fireworks CS3 and then export them over to Dreamweaver CS3.
Does the links for the buttons have to be attached in Fireworks first, or can I create the buttons export them into my Dreamweaver site and then attach the links?
The reason I'm asking is because the links in question are external links for five other sites and social network sites, and I do not have the URL's yet. However I would like to get started.
    Thanks in advance.

You are best to create the buttons in Fireworks, export them to an images folder in Dreamweaver, then attach the links that way.
Before you begin work, ensure that you define a site and have all your working files inside of one folder to which the site definition points to,
(Just mentioning this very important step in case you are new to using Dreamweaver  :-)
    Define a site:

Do not ever export any html written by a graphics program  :-)

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Stalling when opening html files

    Hello,
I have Dreamweaver CS3 running Mac OS X 10.5.2 on a new Mac
Pro, and have had no problems until now. All of a sudden,
Dreamweaver hangs for between 5 and 10 minutes when opening various
HTML files. Once the files are open, generally it's fine, without
    any delays or other problems.
The files are email newsletters, with some of the images
hosted on a remote server, and some hosted locally on my computer.
The only difference I can think of is that I installed Fireworks
and Contribute yesterday, but I don't know if this is related.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, or if
there is anything I can do to solve it?
    Many thanks in advance, D.

I also work with Dreamweaver CS3 running Mac OS X 10.5.2 on a
    new Mac Pro
and have had no end of grief... just need to glance at it and
    it will hang...
Now I have read the following:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401608&sliceId=1
with a last updated of 06-18-2007 (boy people work fast
    around here)
Have tried all the suggestions listed there... and some
more... even reinstalled Dreamweaver... removed all extensions...
even shifted some of our files from the server to the local
machine... still hangs... used IP nos in FTP addresses, Rosetta
mode (that is ugly), removed splash screen, stopped images being
viewed from Internet, reset config files etc etc
I'm not really bleating at Adobe, as CS3 was out long before
Leopard... or is it the Intel based Mac Pro? ...I really don't
care... I just want a service pack from someone that will fix this
nonsense. I have seen many forum threads from all over with people
    complaining about this issue.
We also had a you-beaut Mac server installed for our local
files (also running Leopard) and our PCs could not lock/unlock
files (again people pleading for fixes from all around the world).
Now this was a real pain when working in a team environment with
Dreamweaver. Answer to this... install Tiger on the server and all
    came good again.
The mess we have had with Leopard and Dreamweaver far
outstrips Vista issues on PCs... on that note... also we run a new
HP PC... CS3 products are running like a dream on that machine.
Even an old PC P4 266 we have chugs (OK slowly) with all CS3 Design
    Premium.
So back in 06-18-2007 Adobe admits there is a problem with
the new Macs running Leopard and Dreamweaver... we even had our
local Mac folk admit there are problems (that was like getting
blood out of stone for that admittance)
We have lost a tremendous amount of productive hours over
these issues... can someone from Adobe please communicate with
Mac/Apple over these issues... or is it a case of "it is not our
problem, they need to come up with a solution..."

  • Photoshop CS to Dreamweaver CS3

  • My first look at Dreamweaver CS3

Hi all, just got CS3 Web Standard install on my PC. The
installation was good with no problems, so far. Only open
Dreamweaver and Fireworks. I do not see any slow down from running
    Dreamweaver CS3, and Fireworks CS3.
    Good
I work with classics ASP daily for work, I noticed the code
view is high lighting correctly now, compare to DW8. The Design
display looks bad, but that is expected since my asp file is a
master file. This is a big plus for me.
    Wondering Why
The Check CSS function did find two parsing errors, and a lot
of min-height in the style sheet. I right click on the error and
selected more info. DW did point out the problem but the more info
option only took me to the Home page of CSS Advisor, and not to any
articles related to min-height. I knew CSS Advisor existed already
before and have it in my Bookmarks. I was thinking it would take me
directly to a solution with out searching for it. Not a big deal,
    just a point
Over all Dreamweaver CS3 looks similar to 8, I am very very
very please with the code highlighting for asp. I hand code
everything for work including SQL and database connection. It would
be nice to see a SQL code page under other for highlighting the
    code.
Did anybody every get the email back for the free gift after
    registering, I have not.

Are you trying to re-install the application? This is what
appears is happening from the error messages.
If you aren't doing that then something was corrupted and you
may need to reinstall by first de-activating the software package
via another CS3 application under the Help menu. And then you would
need to run the CS3 clean tool to uninstall and then you would need
to load the media from CS3 to re-install.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 - Layers?

I have a site designed with Graphic Nav Buttons and Drop Down
menus built in Fireworks CS3, then imported into a Table in
Dreamweaver CS3. This navigation physically resides in a table
above a table that holds a Flash movie below it.
    http://www.builtcreative.com/NewBernTours/htdocs/NBT_MainTemplate.htm
Here's the Problem. The menus show up BEHIND the Flash movie
in Internet Explorer or Firefox for Windows, but show up fine in
Safari and Firefox on a Mac running Panther or Leopard. When I
substitute a JPEG, GIF or PNG for the Flash Movie instead of the
.swf, the menus show up fine in both platforms. Is this a Layers
issue, and if so, how the heck do I use them in CS3? If its a Flash
thing, how do I rectify the issue?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
