Fireworks to Illustrator Issue

I am trying to export a full vector graphic (only gradients, blend modes, opacity and strokes). When i export to AI8 file format, it reduces file customisation to the minimum.
It converts the gradients to a solid fill
The blend modes dissapear
The opacity is up to 100%
It just keeps the first colour of the gradient, the strokes and of course the actual verctor shapes.
Could anyone tell me how to work around this ? I would only need gradients and opacity to convert properly, because i believe that AI doesn't even have blend modes. If somebody will suggest me to work in AI instead, i am much more familiar with FW and i have a better workfow with this app , just that some of my clients preffer AI and i have to export files for them. At the moment after i export it to AI, i go and edit the file once again to set the gradients and opacities as they were in FW.
Thank you !
PS: i have uploaded a sample exported to AI and also the native PNG source file.
Edit: Part of the problem is resolved (i deselected the "Freehand Compatible option") and i now have Gradients (allthought the elipse gradient is straightened , instead of oblique) , but what about Opacity and Gradient Opacity?

As i said in my original post , i am very familliar with Fireworks, but some of my clients prefer AI for vector illustrations, and i thought that i could work around some export issues so it would render properly as an .ai
One more question, do you think that adobe will perfect these export issues in the future so their whole CS suite will be compatible in between?
Thanks you for your responses so far!
That's a tough position to be in (having clients who want your files in .ai). If you have vector illustrations that are components of your Web design work, you might want to lean more on Illustrator for the drawing and move to Fireworks for the compositing work. I don't know if it will fly, but you could try explaining to your clients that you use Fireworks for your final files because its hybrid vector/raster abilities and its focus on Web production makes you more efficient. (The standard time = money argument.)
Fireworks came to Adobe with a completely different code base from Adobe's products. From CS3 to CS4, Adobe replaced the section of code for text rendering, to have Fireworks and Photoshop use the same code. A major code transplant like that is difficult and, in my opinion, shows that Adobe is serious about bringing Fireworks fully into the CS suite. I am certainly not in a position to guess what features Adobe has prioritized for the next cycle. You might submit a Feature Request for better .ai export here, though: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Fireworks or Illustrator for creating web components

I just want to ask members who use Muse which program they use to create Web Components.  For photos I use Photoshop CC, but I am not sure which program to use for web graphics.  I know both programs have tools for creating web graphic, and that Fireworks is more designed to create web graphic, but which one is better Fireworks or Illustrator.
I am looking to trying to create some logos and maybe icons for my webpage, and as I am new to these programs I would like so opinion from you the members on which ones your use.
I thankyou in advance for reading this post and any opinions you may have regarding this.

Ultimately I would say photoshop is your best bet. You can do the hard lines, shading and blending for this type of thing fairly easily in photoshop compared to illustrator if you know how. Most web comic artist I know who do their work in color usually use photoshop to produce exactly this type of look. For examples look at Katbox.net/laslindas or 2kinds.com

  • Fireworks CS3 & Illustrator CS3

I'm not sure if this is more an Illustrator problem or a
Fireworks issue, but since I can post here but can't log into the
    Illustrator forum, I'll start here.
I have illustrations created in Illustrator. Black and white
images, and I want the white to be transparent, or rather see-thru
since I don't mean transparency as in opacity. What I want is for
the background to show through the "white" portions of the black
and white illustrations. So, if you have a black circle with a
white triangle in the middle, and put it on a green background, the
black circle will be black and the "white" triangle will be green.
Hopefully, that clarifies what I am trying to do.
So, in Illustrator CS3, I take that illustration and use
"exclude" and "expand" to apply it to the illustration. Seems to
work fine there. If I create a solid-colored square and move it
behind the illustration, the "white" areas show the square's color
    instead of white.
Now, when I open that illustration in Fireworks CS3, I get a
black solid image. No paths where the "white" areas should be. Just
    a solid black area.
Now, if I take that original illustration, open it in
Illustrator 5.5(!), use "exclude," save and then open that modified
file in Fireworks 1.0(!), it works just fine. I can also open that
Illustrator 5.5 file in Fireworks CS3 and it works fine.
Mind you, the illustrations are more complex than a white
triangle in a black circle. But, if Illustrator 5.5 and Fireworks
1.0 can handle them, the CS3 versions ought to be able to handle
    them as well.
Since I would expect that the CS3 versions should be able to
do the same things that the much older versions can do, I can only
assume (and hope!) that I must be doing something wrong. I would
hate to have to save all my Illustrator CS3 files down to
Illustrator 3 files (since CS3 can't save to Illustrator 5), open
them in Illustrator 5.5 and "exclude," then resave them and then
finally open them in Fireworks CS3, especially since that involves
using two Macs, since the Intel Macs don't run Classic. Seems like
I should be able to go direct from Illustrator CS3 to Fireworks
    CS3.
So, what am I doing wrong?

Found it! Compound Path instead of Exclude.

  • Fireworks 9 - Illustrator CS3 import

I have designed a very simple web layout in Illustrator and
want to finalise it for a prototype in Fireworks. When I try to
open or import it in FW I get the very helpful and descriptive
    message:
"Could not open the file. An internal error occurred." I
pulled the file apart and tried various times until I removed the
culprit - a greyscale bitmap with a Luminosity Tranparency applied.
So I assume the great new AI compatibility feature fails with
    transparency blends.
Now when I opened it in FW it all worked except any bitmap
whatsover which was linked in the original AI was missing in the
FW. One of the bitmaps was in a clipping path. I selected the
content and tried pasting it into the path in FW (which imported
without the bitmap) but nothing happened. I just tried a straight
paste and nothing happened. I then released the clipping path in
illustrator, selected the bitmap and then pasted into the path.
Nothing. Finally I did a straight paste and got it, copied it
within FW and then successfully pasted into the path.
However none of the other bitmaps which weren't in clipping
paths would paste in the FW document at all! The bitmaps are in the
clipboard, and viewable in the clipbook viewer, but will not paste
in FW! All that appears is a "group" of 1 object the same shape and
size of the bitmap, no line, no fill.
There is no mention of bitmap incompatibility issues with FW
importing AI anywhere on the Adobe website, in fact there is no
mention of any problems at all. Just glowing references to how in
    CS3 you can
"Open Illustrator files in Fireworks while preserving
hierarchical layers, patterns, linked images, text attributes,
transparency, and more." This is clearly NOT the case!
I have encountered serious problems in my
    first attempt at a
simple import operation - I hate to think of the problems I
might encounter witth a more complex file.
Does anybody have any suggestions of how to resolve these
    issues?
    Platform: Windows XP SP2

Integration is best achieved through the Fw File > Import
    command.
In Illustrator, open you doc, go file Save As, and at the
dialog prompt, ensure Include Linked Files is ticked and proceed.
In Fw, File > Import the .ai and you should get your
    necessary items into your doc.
I just did a test with Clipping Mask and Linked Bitmap images
    and they imported fine.

  • FW File; Roundtrip to Illustrator Issue

When roundtrip to Ilustrator and select the "Edit Original", the graphic opens in "Preview", not FW. The simple graphic (gradient with a drop shadow), is a stand alone FW png file. "Get Info" also confirms this.
How do I get this to file open (via Illustrator) in FW, as per the tutorial...?!!!
    Thanks

    BUG REPORT:
ISSUE: Roundtrip Workflow per Tutorial—Native Fireworks CS4 Files In Catalyst
Upon initiating the roundtrip from Catalyst (FC) to Illustrator (AI), I am presented with and dismiss the expected dialogue boxes as per tutorial. Upon initiating the "Edit Original" command in AI, it opens the ORIGINAL Fireworks file in my PREVIEW application, not Fireworks.
    WORKAROUND:
In AI, use the "RELINK" (Upper left-hand corner) command to link with the original file. Once this is done, I am presented, once again, with the expected diaglogue boxes but now, the file opens as it was expected without this step, in Fireworks where I can make my edits.

  • Illustrator issues questions--I need help

    Illustrator CS4, MAC OSX 10.5.8...
After struggling off and on for a few months with Illustrator, I'd like to be able to confirm a few things, so I know I'm not insane.
    1. Canvas/Pasteboard. Is there not an easy way to change that a bit so I can see more difference between the artboard and background? I found a workaround using transparency grid color and then putting a white picture block on the artboard (on a locked layer underneath). This is at least acceptable for various things. Is there some setting I'm missing?  Mostly I'd just like to change the color of the canvas so it stands out more.(And I'd rather have my own choice than whatever the preset tends to be because these blaring white/light screens are killer on the eyes...)
1a. How do I save a "blank" version of the canvas set up I made so my "colorized" canvas  comes up in new documents? Is there a way to set a default document?
1b. Is there a way to make the canvas a bit smaller?
    2. Scrolling. When I select an object and want to move it up the page/artboard, AI doesn't seem to scroll to the area I'm trying to get to. Is there a setting I'm missing or accidentally checked/unchecked? I have to go to the scrollbar and click that and move the item screen-by-screen up the page (alternatively, zoom out, etc.)
2a. I noticed earlier today when trying to sort out text issues (point text, specifically) when I rotated a box... as soon as my cursor hit the edge of the document, the window view practically scrolled out of the universe! Why would it scroll to an out-of-view place in this instance and not scroll when I'm trying to drag an item to an out-of-view place in the document?
    3. I have tons of legacy Freehand 7 files. A decade's worth (not to mention apps prior to that for another decade). Every piece of text comes in as a "text area" box (ordinarily not a problem). But not a one of them shows all the text. I understand this is an issue with legacy files of all types (saving out old FH7 files as an older version of AI yields the same results.)
Pages are cluttered with red + everywhere. Never mind the time sink, does AI have any way to "snap to" regarding a text area box to the text? How do you get multiple text boxes/objects to line up and be the same size? I'm not seeing H x W spec boxes to enter numerics in for text area boxes (as a start). Do I need to use grids or guides for this?
    4. Whatever tool I'm using persists and doesn't change to a regular arrow when I go to click a scrollbar. Program glitch?
    5. How do I set a default font? Or a default doc to open with the desired font preset in it?
    6. When saving out a graphic to be used in another app, is there no "save selection as.."? Or do I need to open a new doc, paste and save from there for each thing? (My master documents for some frequently used items tend to have many items)
I know these are really newbie questions, but what used to be 5 minute tweaks in the past (in Freehand) now turn into all-day ordeals trying to figure out what I consider to be just the basics. So I'm not really learning about all the features and aspects of AI at this point.
Can anyone confirm some of the stuff above or point out what I've missed?
    Thanks

    Hello Scott:
Thanks for reassuring me I'm only partly insane
Thanks also for the tip on setting up a default document. I'll pursue that tomorrow when I'm a little less bleary....
Scrolling-- I have a group (or object selected) and I'm just dragging it along, but it doesn't go farther than the edge of the doc.
I'm a whiz with a trackball, but useless with a scroll wheel.
Ugh on the no default font thing.
Magnifier glass icon on the scrollbar... well, it's disorienting but I'll live.
I see the "save as" and "save a copy"-- but I don't see a "save SELECTION"? Where is that?
Hmmm, yeah, I have some words but I don't think "turd" was one of them  lol. Too mild for this 16-hour day.
Admittedly, I've been more than a little shocked with AI.

  • Mac Media Keys Causing Adobe Fireworks Selection Tool Issues?

This issue has been driving me nuts. I've contacted Adobe support, but havn't recieved a response.
For some reason while using Adobe Fireworks CS5 the selection (pointer) tool no longer functions properly. It did at one point.
I have to hold down the mouse and pull the trap lines over any object to get it to select. Not very practicle when you have to select multiple items. All the other tools are working in a wonky manner as well.
I have tried reinstalling the program and running disk repair on my system. No resolve
I have read a ton of forums and users are mention programs like spotify that are causing the conflict. I dont have any of the know programs installed on my mac that people have mentioned.
I have also read that it is itunes media key functionality may be causing the issue?
I know this might be an Adobe issue, just thought I'd reach out and see if anyone has a resolve.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Fireworks Selection Tool Issues

I'm having issues with my selection tool in Fireworks CS5. The selection tool isn't working properly upon click etc.
I have encountered this issue before and don't remember my resolve. I do know that this is some issue resulting from the Media Keys on my mac.
Note: I am not running anything like Spotify or any other outside app I have seen mentioned on other posts.
    Any resolve would be appreciated.

  • JPEG crashes AGS, Fireworks, and Illustrator, but not Photoshop

I have a feeling that the problem has to do with JPEG metadata but I'm not sure what to look for. So far I've found that the JPEG causes Fireworks, Illustrator, and Adobe Graphics Sever to hang. It's especially bad since when AGS goes down a dependent public web application hangs too.
The file works as expected in Photoshop, Acrobat, browsers, and other apps. I'm pretty sure it's not infected since it passed my virus scanner.
Could someone take a look at the JPEG and let me know if you find anything? You can download it from my webserver here:
    http://shared.snapgrid.com/images/1102713.jpg .

Well, my NOD32 antivirus says it's okay.
I opened the file in my text editor's binary mode, and
    there's a "copyright (c) 1998 Hewlett-Packard Company" that I don't
see anywhere in the file info in Photoshop (
    screen
capture). I wonder if the header is just messed up, somehow.
Maybe missing some delimiters so some records are larger than
expected. Can you re-save from the original?
I did a quick search for apps that would display the header
    info, and found
    a developer's
demo code project, but I think it's just source code.
    Sorry I'm not very helpful.

  • Fireworks element selection issue on mavericks

    Hey all,
I've ran into multiple issues with the CC version of FW on OS X Mavericks for the past month (minimally). The biggest issue i'm having is with selecting layers. I am able to click and drag to select them, but simply clicking on them doesn't work. Also, importing images "cmd + r" doesn't add the image when selected without clicking and dragging to size it. Previously i was able to double click to add it in it's original size. There are a few other random issues, but those two are very consistent across all of my machines, and are really crippling my productivity. Is anyone experiencing this, or have any ideas for resolving it? I find it hard to believe i'm the only one with the problem since it's happening on all of my machines.
    What i've tried so far:
    - Completely removing all traces of FW and reinstalling it
    - Restarting (obviously)
    - Checking the console for errors that stand out.
There are a few console errors that might be related (but they mean nothing to me):
26/07/2014 13:15:45.837 WindowServer[86]: disable_update_timeout: UI updates were forcibly disabled by application "Adobe Fireworks CS6" for over 1.00 seconds. Server has re-enabled them.

Same issue here but with Premiere Pro.
Closing Spotify seems to work. Even if I have Quicktime open with an mp3 loaded up, it crashes. Also saving doesn't work. But that may be a separate issue.
This didn't happen before the new Mac Pro and Yosemite. Le sigh...

  • Illustrator issues with After Effects CS5

It seems i have discovered a bug with CS5 illsutrator files and CS5 After Effects. When importing illustrator files or layers into AE working on the project, saving, closing and then reopening the same project, the illustrator files apepar to be present in the project window but actually need to be reloaded in order for them to register properly and therefore be visible in the composition window.
Subsequentally, when rendring these comps without "reloading" the illsutrator files the renders, as expected are missing the illustrator elements.
This issue has been recently been acknowledged by Adobe and I am told is going to require an engineering fix. As of right now there has not been a projected date for the patch or update. As a work around in the meantime, Adobe recommends when working with Illustrator CS5 in comjunction with AE to save illustrator files as Illustrator CS4 files and then import for use in CS5 AE.

Let us know whether that is working for you.
Is this Windows-specific? I've never had this problem on my Macs. I'm on CS5, not 5.5.

  • Illustrator issue - loaded fonts missing

I have recently installed CS6 on my iMac and added all my special OT fonts  into /Library/Fonts. When I open FontBook they show as active and available. However when I open Illustrator, half the fonts do not appear. I wondered is it was a CS6 Issue, so uploaded all fonts to InDesign in the ap Font folder and InDesign works fine. The issue seems to be Illustrator specific.  I have seriously spent hours looking for an answer, I haven't found anything online that explains. Can anyone help?

How many such fonts you have installed? Sometimes few fonts and Illustrator do not cooperate with each other nicely. But you may try disabling few fonts and see which font is causing issue, it will require some hit and trial effort at your side. At least you will be able to use rest of the fonts, if you can identify the problemetic font. I also had this problem once, and found out of around 100 fonts there was only one font which was creating problem. Once I identified it, I could use application smoothly. You may try it too.

  • Adobe Fireworks vs Illustrator advise needed

    Hi!
Having used Fireworks for the past 6 years i feel that i have reached a limit, With illustrator doing the same thing does it do more? My focus is around web content, creating menus, interactive rollovers etc...
    Any advice/thoughts?
    Many Thanks!
    Steve

Illustrator will not do more than Fireworks in the area of web graphics. Illustrator is primarily print-centric. It (and programs like it) pre-date the widespread proliferation of the web by many years. Web-centric accomodations have been added here and there over the years, but those are like scattered "me, too" features, not the primary thrust.
For example, Illustrator can export various web-centric raster formats, but it can't do much at all in the way of *editing* raster images. It has a few conveniences for getting vector artworks into Flash (often with less-than-optimum results).
Illustrator does have more (and/or different) vector *drawing features* than Fireworks. And its PostScript heritage makes it appropriate for the technical considerations of print (ex: CMYK and spot-color color separations).
So generally, Illustrator (along with its direct competitors) is a general-purpose vector drawing program. Its environment is generally print-centric and static (the fore-mentioned minor hooks toward Flash notwithstanding).
That's important if you are doing commerical work for clients *beyond* just web graphics, because it is usually far better to create for print first and then re-purpose for web than the other way around.
So back to your original question: You might get use out of Illustrator to draw more elaborate (or just different) things than you are accustomed to in Fireworks, and then bring them into Fireworks. But be forewarned, the "old vanguard" vector drawing programs (Illustrator, FreeHand, CorelDraw, Deneba Canvas) are very different from Fireworks in their interface and organization, and among those, Illustrator is (to my mind) the most confused and scattered.
So you'll be in for a significant learning curve. Don't get me wrong; it's certainly not rocket science, nor is it anything to fear. I'm just saying to anticipate some initial frustration and confusion if you expect to just pick it up and use it based on your Fireworks experience. (An AI-only user would also be initially disoriented in Fireworks.)
Bear this in mind also: The fact that Adobe now owns both Illustrator and Fireworks should not in any way lead you to expect the two programs to be similar or even "integrated" to any large degree (yet). Adobe acquired Fireworks when it bought Macromedia. Macromedia apps all follow a radically different (and in my opinion, better) organizational scheme than pre-merger Adobe apps.
You would feel more "at home" in FreeHand than in AI, because both FH and FW follow the Properties Palette "contextual inspector" organizational scheme of Macromedia apps. Plus, Macromedia built features to help "integrate" FW and FH; much as Adobe is now trying to do with AI and FL.
But that avenue is quite dubious now, because Adobe has decided to discontinue FreeHand. Illustrator and Fireworks will feel more an "odd couple" than would FreeHand and Fireworks. It's anyone's guess as to how much effort Adobe will put into making AI and FW work together (or for that matter, the longterm continuance of Fireworks); the focus seems to be toward Flash.

Having an issue where I have no tools upon launch. I though I was missing something but this seems to be the case.

Also in Fireworks gespeichert als Ai-Datei.
