Fireworks
I want to know,
Have you heard the word that Adobe is getting rid of
Fireworks in exchange for Adobe Illustrator. Anyone know for sure?
Hopefully this won't happen as Photoshop is bad enogh to learn,
Illustrator, I would imagine a lot of people would struggle
learning it quickly.
Thanks.
> Sheer speculation.
Not so sure about the 'Sheer' part - not sure how many
companies ever tried
to market a product they bought from another company that
competes more or
less directly with one of their own. I think the trend tends
to be be "buy
it, kill it" - though in Adobe's case "buy it, merge it,
integrate it" is
more likley.
Its a pretty safe bet that fw is on the way out - there are
'some' who would
disagree but many who don't struggle too hard to see how this
might end up
being the case.
I don't see an Adobe product line of "PhotoShop,
Elements,Image Ready and
Fireworks" - not in a million years. Heck, they couldn't even
market image
ready successfully in it's own right; now its bundled free
with photoshop.
I think the inevidable result will simply be a more 'web
focused' photoshop.
Fireworks made sense in teh MM world, but it makes very
little in the new
Adobe world.

Adobe Bridge Buttons in Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks?
Hello,
Adobe says that the button to connect to Adobe bridge is in
every CS3 application. I can find it in Photoshop, Illustrator, and
even Contribute, a former Macromedia project, but none of the other
Macromedia projects (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks) have one. Am I
missing it, or is this a glitch?
Thanks,
DylanGo to Edit > Prefs > Enable Version Cue. Once you do
that look in the lower left corner of the flash
application - you should see "Open" with an arrow. Clicking
on it will popup "Reveal in Bridge" button.

Imported Fireworks Nav Bar Animation Looping
Hi
I have imported a navigation bar I made in fireworks into dreamweaver and when I preview in browser it keeps looping. In fireworks I added a rollover effect so that when you rollover each bit of text, e.g. home, contact, games it goes bold, and when previewing it loops so they all keep going bold without my control. In Fireworks I made it using slices and several states, and so just when I rollover state one it changes to state 2 for example. Very simple, but it keeps looping, how can I stop this? Thanks. I have attached the png file for fireworks if you need to take a look.Hi
You do not require the fireworks/javascript to achieve the effect you require for your links.
This effect can be made using simple css a:link, (visited, hover, active) statements, I would also recommend using css to style your page and not tables/image slices .
For the css links, see - http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_link.asp and http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/css/css-navigation-menu.shtml.
Moving from tables based design to css based - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/table_to_css_pt1.html.

Photo Gallery in Dreamweaver using Fireworks
How do I add images to a photo gallery that I created in
Dreamweaver using Fireworks? I created a photo gallery and I
changed my background color and other settings, but I need to find
any easier way to add images without messing up my settings. Each
time I add a photo, I don't want to have to change 40+ web pages.
Can someone please help? If there is an easier program to use, then
I will change programs.
Thanks for your help!Sorry in advance if the following comment is missing the
point of your question.
Ans: You need to export (>File > Export) the image that
you have manipulated in Fireworks to an images folder in your
dreamweaver website. You will be prompted for an optimum file
output (JPEG, GIF etc) during this process. Then close Fireworks
and open DW. Then place your curser at the point in the webpage
where you want to insert the image and then select Menu > Insert
> Image. Browse to the image that you have created in Fireworks
and press enter. Job done! Fireworks is a fantastic s/w application
... and there's no need to look elsewhere. -
I've worked with frontpage and dreamweaver on simple
websites. Now I want to publish pictures to my site. My problem is
tht I want to install a picture a a hair style. I want to display
the front and bsvk of the style. Which do I use(Flash of Fireworks)
to make it when you drag your mouse across the picture that it
turns from front to back? Thanks in advance for your help. You could use Either. With Flash you could create a movie
with two frames,
one for each image and create a mouseover effect.
Alternative you could use Fireworks, create the two images,
then load them
into DW and add a swap image behaviour to them.

Flash and Fireworks animations
So I am building a website for myself and I want to put a flash animation in. After the animation comes in, more links will appear on top of the animation after it stops moving and stays stationary. I am wondering what I need to do to get this to function correctly between flash, fireworks and dreamweaver.
Do I build the animation, layout the rest of the site in FW, and then put it altogether in DW?
If so, how would I put a SWF in front of the FW layout in DW? (Because that needs to be on top)
Thank you so very much for the help!Import graphics from FW into FL and create your animation there. Then publish and place the SWF in a page in DW.

Flash and Fireworks combination
Macromedia MX: I am working on an image in Fireworks and
would like to incorporate a flash movie into this image so that I
can put it into Dreamweaver for my website. A quick example of the
image is a square inside a square (kinda like a TV set). Is there a
way to layer the Flash movie into the Fireworks image so that the
Flash movie plays inside the inner square but is not visible on the
outer square? (since it would overlap somewhat) Would I import the
image from Fireworks to Flash and work on it there, or import the
Fireworks image into Dreamweaver and insert the Flash movie there?
I am not sure how to go about this task. Thanks for any
suggestions.P-C-Surgeonz;
You can't "layer"a flash swf into an image, but you can
"insert" the
image and flash into your html separately using
dreamweaver--but IMO
importing the png fireworks png into flash, and just
embedding the flash is
easier. -Tom Unger -
Fireworks edit in Dreamweaver pouting and refusing to update.
Again, I'm new to Fireworks...let me know if I'm totally off
base here. Before I start, I'm using Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver
CS3 as part of Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium. I use an iMac
running OS 10.5.2, Leopard.
I've just finished designing a new Fireworks navigation bar
for my company's website. The HTML exports and integrates into the
existing pages just fine (so far.) I'm in the process of testing
each page with the new Fireworks HTML to see if anything goes nuts
before I take it live.
Here's where I might be delusional. I insert the HTML into a
page, then use the "edit in Fireworks" option in DW to change the
default state of one button using the "show in 'down' state on
load" option (depending on which page is currently up.) I've
noticed that although I can use the "edit in Fireworks" option to
do other things (minor spacing issues for example) with marginal
success...FW is not reflecting the "down state" changes in DW at
all. I swear I've done this before and it's worked, though!
When I'm in the midst of making these changes and "preview"
in FW, everything works as it should. However, as soon as I hit
"done", no updates are reflected in the DW page...nor are they
saved in the original FW HTML when I go back and check.
If I'm completely wrong, what would be the best way to
reflect a "down state on load" button for each page of the website?
Do I need to make the changes, re-save the files, and re-export
them?
If it helps, the test index page is:
http://www.thdelectronics.com/index_testbar.html
It shows "home" in the down state. But when I load the HTML
on the products pages and try to change the down state button to
"products"...it doesn't work.
Thanks,
~G~Hello
I just worked through this exact same issue today so I'm glad
to help. The easy answer is that when you are exporting the html to
Dreamweaver you need to check 'Multiple Nav Bar HTML Pages' in the
'Document Specific' tab (under the options button in my Fireworks
MX).
As far as I can tell, you end up with a nav bar for each of
your links and then have to import those each to your pages which
doesn't help when using templates. I'm hoping I can find a
different answer to that one.
Here is a link to the whitepaper...

Fireworks CS5 wont start up in lion (error in preferences folder)
Ok, after 10 days with out FW CS5 on my new Lion installment. I finally cracked some kind of bug where FW would freeze just after loading and the last text in the CS5 logo was tabs and then the processor would go up to around 81% and just freeze.
Apple and Adobe, both blame each other and none could give an answer, but to re-install everything, which i just had done. (Man the big dudes are lost sometimes!)
"My" problem turned, that I seemlessly had a corrupt file in my ~/Library/Preferences/
But i couldnt figure out which one it was.
I ran a Terminal plutil -s *.plist and no errors showed up.
The solution turned out to be:
Deleted the entire macromedia folder in the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder and now its working.
macromedia is the name of the old FW creators before Adobe took over.
So i am guessing there is some kind of error, but who can tell. I cant, adobe cant and apple cant.
Well hope this helps somebody!Hi Folks!
Its because the macromedia folder is recreated each time flash is used somehow.
I made an Automator App that
1) Locates the ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia
2) Moves the Macromedia Folder to the Trash
3) Runs Adobe Fireworks CS 4
So all I need to do is click this Automator App instead of the Fireworks App in my Dock, and then I am sure it will start.
(I Know that this is not a 100% cool in the end fix, but seems like Adobe are ignoring this error after several of attempts of direct action to tell them.)
Here is how to build your own automator app that does these three steps for you.
My finder is in danish, but I translated it in red text for you. Guess its easy to figure out:
Remember!!! If you are running Adobe Fireworks CS5 then choose that in step 3 instead :-) -
Adobe Windows Fireworks CS5 opens to white screen
I had Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium installed and working fine for over a year. All of a sudden today when I click the icon to open Fireworks it opens to a blank screen "white".
I can see my icons for Windows 7 at the bottom but nothing but a white screen. It appears Dreamweaver is doing the same. I tried uninstalling FW and re-install and the problem
continues. HelpI checked the above article and it wasn't relevant to the problem stated at the beginning of this article, first off that person was using an iPad (there is no blue icon on the right side of the browser window on a computer) and 2nd, what is needed is preventing small images opening in full screen mode instead of the image loading in screen the same size as the image. The above article shows how to get in and out of full screen mode but that doesn't address the issue in the original post because the image is still placed on a too large screen. When the image is only 3x2 inches you don't need the page opening as large as a full size screen on a 27" monitor. When that happens you have to click on the tiny, miniscule, hardly attainable 1 pixel spot at the lower right corner of the screen and resize the page manually so it doesn't take up the whole screen so you can see the other documents. when you are opening multiple images this is very annoying.
I have trouble believing that Adobe techs haven't found a solution to this issue since Sept 2011 when the first post on this issue was posted above. -

Fireworks Imports - Replacing Tables with Divs
Hi folks,
I love Fireworks to bits but it's intergration with DW is slowly driving me nuts.
Take a look at the code for www.total-formula1.com
I've imported a nav section, top bar and footer from Fireworks - which (IMHOP) look great until you look at the code.
Then it becomes a mess of tables and spacer gif's.
I've tried importing as CSS with images but it looses behaviours.
Am I kidding myself. Do I have to split it all up and use DW to perform rollovers?
Thoughts, help or a loaded shotgun welcome.Fireworks CSS and Images export does not support Javascript. Same with States, if I recall. CSS and Images will not export out anything but the current state. You would have to add that code (CSS or JS) in by using Dreamweaver or another editor.
If properly set up, you may be able to export the entire page as CSS and images, then only have to add in the CSS to create the mouseover effect, after they've been exported as graphics.

Fireworks HTML aligning problem
Hi, i'm having problems with aligning Fireworks HTML objects
with either an image set as a background or a regular image.
I built a layout on fireworks, which I then cut into 4 parts.
Banner, Nav bar (which will be linked to named anchors on
dreamweaver), body (which will hold the main content), and footer.
I created a table in Dreamweaver. The top row has no colomns. It
holds the banner. The second row has 2 colomns. One for the nav bar
to the left, and one for the body to the right. The bottom row has
no colomns. It holds the footer. The banner and nav bar were
imported as Fireworks HTML since they are complete with slices and
everything. I was hoping to add content to the body and footer
using Dreamweaver, so I imported those as Background Images for
those particular cells since the only way to write on top of an
image is if it is set as a background. The nav bar I imported from
Fireworks HTML seems disconnected from the rest of the website.
There is a small 1pixel space between the nav bar, and the body to
its right, and also between the nav bar and the banner. Also, the
banner seems to be aligned maybe 1 or 2 pixels more to the left
than the body. It seems like the Fireworks HTML I imported wont
aligne itself perfectliy with the rest of the website. Is there any
way to fix this?"quixx" <[email protected]> wrote in message

Yes, build the whole page in DW itself, don't export the html
generated from
Fireworks.
From what you describe it would be a straight forward process
in DW. Create
your tables with enough cells/rows to create either the nav
and then the
content area in DW and then insert your sliced images into
the cells as
needed.

Importing Nav Bar from Fireworks
Hi
I am using Dreamweaver MX and Fireworks MX (i know i need to
update
) anyway. I made a navigation bar in fireworks, using
slices, pop-up menus, roll-over behaviors and stuff. (Im a beginner
don't know exactly what's going on hehe.) When i preview it in
Safari (mac) it works perfectly, but once i import it into
dreamweaver and preview in safari, it doesn't work properly, the
pop-up menus go transparent when going on each individual section
in the drop down, but yet you can still see the text, (so what i
think i mean is that the background on the pop-up go transparent
when rolling over) i hope that makes sense. Maybe i havent exported
it properly, or imported it properly, feel free to interegate me.
As long as i get it working ill be happy. Any help
much appreciated, thanks. Here are the SERIOUS problems with that menu approach -
1. It's not compatible with DW templates
2. It's EXTRAORDINARILY BLOATED CODE (adding some 75K of
weight to your
page)
3. It's NOT maintainable in DW (meaning that if you change a
filename
linked in the menu, DW cannot make that alteration in the
menu code)
4. It's NOT extensible (meaning that once you have inserted
it in your
page, if you then want to add a new submenu, you have to
recreate the new
menu and retrofit your pages with it individually)
5. It's NOT spiderable (meaning that search engines cannot
find your links
to spider your pages - thus, your 50-page site will appear to
Google as if
it were a single page, and would be ranked accordingly)
6. It's NOT accessable (meaning that anyone using a screen
assistive device
would be no better off than Google at finding your interior
pages)
7. It's NOT functional in browsers with javascript disabled
(meaning that
your site would be unusable for anyone who by choice or
occupation finds
themselves in an environment where browsers aren't permitted
to use
javscript)
'nuff said?
It's just plain and simple crap - and a lousy joke that
Macromedia played on
the community.
