Firmware 1.0.2 has destroyed my Classic 160!

My two-week old classic 160 has been working great. No problems. An hour ago, iTunes updated with 1.0.2 Firmware. After ejecting, the iPod began clicking and resetting and nothing I do will stop it. Basically, it's now dead in the water. This is unacceptable and as a musician who uses it everyday I can't tell you how ****** I am. I got a 7:45pm appt. at my local Apple store. I hope they replace it.

Well, here's my update. My method of gradually adding music to my Ipod has been successful. Several attempts at adding my entire library (about 30g) failed each time and led to the continuous apple logo reboot and clicking. So I did about 12g to start, and it added and synched fine. I then tested about another 1g, and that added and synched fine. So I did about another 12g, and it added that and synched fine. So while I don't yet have my entire library on yet, it seems that adding music to your ipod in chunks can avoid the dreaded apple logo rebooting. Just check the box to only add checked songs, and gradually check off more and more songs for each synch. This is with full album artwork as well, so that is not the cause of the rebooting.

Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory.
Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?
Volker

No, they are not. But getting round this is not that simple.
Until recently, the European Volume Limit that you're referring to affected iPods sold within the EU (European Union countries), so one purchased in the US would not be affected by this. Nor, in theory, would an iPod purchased in Norway or Russia, since neither of them are in the EU.
However, iPod Classics now sold within the UK (where I live) now appear to have an option to disable the EU Volume Limit. I would assume therefore, that this option is available on an iPod Classic bought anywhere within the EU. The firmware on an iPod Classic that can turn off the EU volume Limit is 2.0.5.
iPod Classics running earlier versions of the firmware (including 2.0.4) cannot be upgraded. I have personally seen one with 2.0.5 Mac on it in an Apple Store and the EU limit could be turned off. Check the picture from Badgorr in this thread New Option to turn off EU Volume Cap? (It's towards the bottom of the page.) However, non-Apple stores may still have older stock, so be aware of this when you go shopping.
Experience tells me that buying an iPod from outside the European Union area is not that simple and you are unlikely to manage it. Apple will not ship goods to another country. So either you travel to the US to buy one from a shop (that's a bit extravagant) or you persuade someone else to buy one and send it to you. However, not only will you have the cost of shipping, but in either case, your country's tax department will almost certainly add tax to it when it comes into the country. The service delivering it will apply the tax and charge you for doing so as well or you get charged by the customs department at the airport.

• Ipod Classic 160 6th g. doesn't sync w/Imac g5 non intel OS 10.4.11. This is a replacement for same ipod which was stolen recently. That pod worked fine with Itunes 9! Now this pod says it only works with Itunes 10.7. ***!!!! Why has Apple screwed up?

My ipod classic 160 6th gen. was recently stolen. It had 3000 tunes on it and it synced perfectly with Itunes 9 on my Imac G5 non intel OS 10.4.11. So I recently bought same model and guess what, it doesn't sync at all. Now message says it only works with Itunes 10.7 and up. I certainly cant afford to buy a new intel based Mac and I really dont need a new pc. It feels like Apple has dropped the ball on its long time users and tough luck to you and all the $$$$$$$ spent on downloading songs and buying ipods over the years! I AM SO ANGRY THAT I CANNOT BRING MY MUSIC WITH ME ANYMORE. I dont know if there is any solution to this except being extorted to upgrade to new tech! I have been trying to get answers to this issue but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not a tech genius so extremely techy solutions will be in vane.

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file. Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer. Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar. Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
Ideas?

• Ipod sync has become slow, classic is just uncooperative.

Have a classic 160. been working just fine until tonight. itunes took forever to find and sync the classic. tried restarting itunes. Tried restarting the classic. The sync was still taking forever. (and it was syncing songs that hadn't been touched by either the imac or the ipod). Even ejecting not only takes a long time, but slams both CPUs in the process
Tried another ipod and sync works just fine, so it has to be the classic. Trued the ultimate 'reset to factory settings', but that doesn't work, as the computer says the required file is in use.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Possible solution. Now that I have 5 free minutes to try things.
I plugged the ipod jack directly into the computer, bypassing the hub, and the speed went back to normal. So while the Mac things the hub is communicating at 480bps,it looks like something may be amiss. Although earlier I had recycled power and re-plugged the hub into the mac, in case it screwed up. (I could use a larger hub anyways).
I'm just a little puzzled, as last time I had accidentally plugged the ipod into a USB 1 hub, the computer let me know and suggested it wasn't the best thing I can do. Now I wonder why the Mac things the hub is happy when the data transfer rate say otherwise.
The question remains though - when I tried to hit RESTORE, the ipod should restore no matter what - I shouldn't be getting 'file in use' messages...

• Does the new firmware,1.02.05 has M

Hey, i really want to know if the new firmware has MTP? And if i dont like, can I then go back to the 2.XX.XX firmware?
Is the new .02.05 firmware good?

It's brand new. Here's the description from the Downloads page:
Creative Zen Micro Firmware .02.05ZENM-FWPDE-2-LB
This web release enables you to upgrade the firmware for your , 4, 5 or 6GB Creative Zen Micro player.
You can upgrade from Creative Zen Micro firmware .0.03 or earlier, or Zen Micro PlaysForSure? firmware 2.00.2 or later. After upgrading, you cannot go back to a previous Creative Zen Micro firmware version.
It has been reported by some of our customers that they have experienced reduced battery life after charging their Zen Micro. Our product development team has researched these reports and determined that the users may have experienced this after they plugged their Zen Micro into the AC adapter that was already inserted into a wall socket with the AC power on.
While this is not the conventional way to plug in a player for charging, we wanted to ensure that our customers did not experience this problem, so we have developed a solution to address this, which simply involves upgrading the Zen Micro's firmware.
If you need assistance in doing this, please contact our customer support team and they will be happy to assist you.
Important: If you are upgrading from PlaysForSure firmware, be sure to back up all the audio and data files on your Zen Micro before installing this firmware update as all content will be lost when you install the new firmware. After installing the new firmware, use Creative MediaSource? to restore audio and/or data files to your player.

No; they will not downgrade that device, and it’s highly unlikely that they have the same iPhone model running an older iOS version.

• Classic 160 pauseing in middle of songs

i have a classic 160 and it has started to pause for what seems like 30 seconds on a song after its been playing for a while ( about half an album). i don't think it's the mp3 cause i can restart the mp3 it pauses on and then it plays through fine. anyone know what can be causing this problem.

I have 80 gigs filled on my 160GB classic and I'm having the same problem too, so the controller/cache must REALLY suck. Such a drag... it's such a *******' device. Oh well, let's keep our fingers crossed for a firmware fix for this...

• Classic 160 ipod / windows vista media player stops working

After I download itunes and Quiktime along with my ipod classic 160, my windows media player stops playing dvd's & cd's. Any fixes known. I've tried regedit using the register editor 3 times with no luck. Like the ipod but to uninstall itunes everytime I want to watch a dvd / listen to a cd, is a pain in the backside. Thanks for sharing. PS. I've contacted Gateway,Apple,Microsoft with no luck. Statements mostly heard are sorry can't help and to contact the others I previously typed. Pass the buck. wish I had bought the zune.

Try to remove the old (Npdsplay dll in the plugins list) WMP plugin in case that is used.

• IPod Classic 160 GB doesn't work for audiobooks in BMW X3 F25

Hello
I have been owning a 160 GB iPod classic for a while now. I have newly acquired a BMW X3 (2012 Model, F25). The problem is that when listening to audiobooks, the iPod doubles or triples the speed (and pitch) when I return to the car after having parked. So it runs fine at first, then I stop and park the car and return and then it sounds like Donald Duck is reading to me ;-)
The car comes with the USB interface to which once can connect media players like the iPod. I am using the original BMW "Y-shape" cable that has once connection on the iPod that then splits into an USB and a 3.5mm jack. I also tried cables from Belkin and the cable that came with the iPod, but all to no avail.
It is not the Audiobook faster/slower function of the ipod that is activated because that would not change pitch, it's like "the record is turning too fast", you can see the seconds in the car's display movig much faster than at a second's pace. The iPod subsequently retains this increased speed even if not connected to the car anymore and can only be slowed down again by resetting it.
I onw an older iPod photo 80 GB which does not exhibit this behavior.
The iPod classic 160 is at the latest software level and so is the car.
Any ideas?
Regards
Chris

• Problems in compatibility of iPod radio remote with iPod classic 160 GB

Hi all,
I have just bought a iPod classic 160 GB and want to buy a iPod radio remote as well. However, after I have done my research, I find the radio remote is not compatible with iPod classic perfectly…
Do you think it is a good idea for me to wait a new radio remote (maybe) or later Apple will release update?
Thanks

I use my Radio Remote with a Classic; it does everything that it had with my 5G-Video EXCEPT it will not allow me to set radio stations, either with the Radio Remote's control or the iPod's control.
I have spoken with an iPod specialist (Apple Care) and according to him Apple has acknowleged less than 100% compatibility/functionality with the Radio Remote and the Classics. One of the reasons, he stated, was that several 5G-Video iPods were "getting fried" when the Remote was not fully connected to the docking-port. So Apple has decided to reengineer the port [for better a connection, I gather]. What puzzles me the most about the new generation of iPods is why they were rolled out without warning customers that their Car-Charger, Video Player, dock, AV Cable, or APPLE'S OWN Remote will not play nice with each other!
This go around, it's find out the hard way.
