Firmware 1.1.1..Thank you for your help

After reading this forum for an hour, I'm a little nervous. I ahev a ton of songs onmy ipod but need to update to this firmware to get the audio working on the movies I imported..Are there any cons to updating this 1.1.1 firmware?
1. Will I lose all my songs on my ipod? (still haev them all saved on itunes)
2. Will the backlight not work anymore which I have read?
Any other cons I should worry about?
I appreciate the help.. I just dont want to lose everything I put on or mess this thing up which seems not ver'user friendly.'

1) Songs will not be deleted. A restore deletes all of the songs off of your iPod, but leaves them in iTunes for you to reload. An update will not delete songs off of the iPod or iTunes.
2) The backlight always works. You may be talking about this...
iPod: Return to Main Menu
That started with 1.1, but you should be used to that. Holding down Menu used to turn the backlight on and off. Now, you need to go to settings-->backlight and set it the way you want it.
There is also a volume limit you can set with this update...
Setting the maximum volume limit on iPod
The update should work fine. Just give it time and let the update finish
