Firmware 1.1.3 - Photos problem/question
I downloaded the 1.1.3 photos + january software update with no problems at all. I have my mac set up to auto sync all music and photos. Have noticed today that the Photos on my Itouch are no longer categorised by Album. The groupings are simply Photo Library, Last 12 months and Last Import. Previously i had all the photos categorised into albums.
Any thoughts please?

I have the same issue, only I'm using a PC Win-xp and Photoshop Elements. Itunes ignores the albums (2k+ photos) and only sees 15 pics. That's all it will sync with the Touch, unless I select other directories and then it's one big mess.

G5 Firmware update necessary? Random problems since Tiger upgrade.
I have a PowerMac G5 (7,2) with a 1.8 GHz PowerPC 970 (2.2) CPU running under boot version 5.1.4f0. I have added memory.
I apparently upgraded from OS 9 to 10.2.8 without running any firmware updates. I quite frankly don't remember. I have since upgraded to Tiger, directly from 10.2.8. (There were OS X versions in between, I'm told. *wry smile*)
I am now having random problems.
The machine won't sleep. Display will but tower won't.
On occasion when I boot it up, I get the blue screen and nothing else; I have to shut it off with the power button and restart.
iPhoto (ancient version) is running agonizingly slowly (better since I did the fix suggested in the iPhoto forum in answer to someone else's question).
A short while ago, (in the last week) I noticed that some of my rules in mail ceased functioning (while others work fine). I deleted and recreated them to no avail. I previously had serious Mail problems that I fixed thanks to Mr. Gost, but those were largely of my own creation, so this latter might be unrelated.
If I'm reading things on the various boards and in Apple's Support forum right, in order to truly fix this I should deal with the firmware, to wit:
1. temporarily remove the memory I added (not factory-installed)
2. somehow (handwave) install OS 9 OR boot up from a OS 9 disk
3. download and install the 5.1.5f2 uniprocessor firmware update that Software Update keeps insisting I need.
4. reinstall the added memory
5. If I've reinstalled OS 9, reinstall 10.2.8 and then reinstall Tiger. (because I can't go directly from 9 to 10.4, right?) Otherwise, a clean install of Tiger might be a good idea.
Is this accurate?
Should this solve my blue screen and non-sleeping issues?
Are those issues indicative of a serious problem, or just annoying?
Is there more than one firmware update I should be using?
Will updating my firmware at this point create more issues than it is worth (as I'm seeing that many people had issues after firmware updates?)
Also, these problems seem to have intensified since the update to 4.10. Can I go back to 4... um... the last update? If so, can you point me to directions?
Sorry to be so verbose. I'm obviously more than a little behind the bell curve on this upgrade. The version of iPhoto I want (6) isn't even sold anymore.Software updater insists the firmware update I need is 5.1.5f2. The only information I can find on this is on a 2004 page at apple support (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117) that states:
These firmware updates cannot be installed when the computer is started up from Mac OS X. In order to install them, you must start up the computer from a Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 9 System Folder on the computer's hard disk (not from a CD).
When you click on the technical details it says:
Remove any third part RAM before installing this Firmware Update. After the Firmware Updater has verified that it has been completed correctly, you can re-install your third party RAM.
There are other firmware updates, but they don't appear to address the issues I have been having, and they're not what Software Updater says it needs. Am I missing something obvious here?

much like the email above, i am having trouble importing movies --all taken with my same nikon camera and uploaded to iphoto-- from iphoto08 to imovie08. i did a software update today and half the movies i wanted from iphoto, somehow, ended up on imovie. not the half i need to work with, by the way. just came back from christmas with the family. the first time my dad has seen my son. the first time my wife has seen my dad. lots of pictures. my dad wants copies. i got great ideas about making him a DVD... in imovie, i choose, "import movies", follow the steps, create a new event AND... no movie clips show up in my new event... BUT, when i click "mac HD" on my desktop and go the "imovie events", i see the movies is just supposedly imported to imovie as files and can watch them. doesn't help me much when trying to create a movie to send to my dad. no video is played in imovie. HELP HELP HELP!!! i went so far as to trash my 15 movies from iphoto because i thought perhaps the computer was seeing them as photos and not movies. right now my vacation movies are on my desktop. how can i get them to show up in imovie and start my project? HELP HELP HELP!!!I think you have set your iPod to an option which everytime you connect it to itunes, it will delete all songs on it and replace it with songs currently in your library. What you need to do is click on the ipod on the sidebar, and on the bottem of the new page click the tick box that says "Manually manage music and video". That way you can delete old songs from your computer and they will stay on your ipod everytime you connect it. Hope that helps ^_^

Okay, i have a 5610, firmware v9.4, and i have the foll problems/questions...
1) The calender and alarm systems sometimes refuse to work. In the calender, i put reminders, but often it never gives any alarm, even though i have set it to alert me at such-and-such time. The alarm too, simply doesn't work at times. any solutions?
2) On starting the phone, while updating the library, the phone temporarily gets hanged. After about 5 minutes, its back to normal, and the library is updated, but in those 5 mins i can't do anythinh. any solutions?
3)On connecting my cell to the comp, i usually use memory storage mode, to access the memory card in windows explorer, cuz its faster than pc suite. afer disconnecting, my phone often says "not enough memory on phone. update cancelled", referring to the music player library update. any solutions?
4)In menu>steeings>security>security level, what do the options do, i've not noticed any difference...security level is to either set passwords for start up of phone ,keypad locks,lock code for phone this enable you to put a pin on the phone where if it was to get stolen the person would need a pin the activate the phone with another sim in it

Few problems/questions! (cover flow, album art...etc)
Ok I finally added my songs to my new IPOD (replaced my old one) and this is my first Ipod with video, color...etc. Its the IPOD Classic 80 GIG.
Well I am having a few problems/questions:
---Why when I hit "Get album art" does it ONLY get art for my videos? It doesn't get any for all 1,500+ songs! Is it because they aren't downloaded from Itunes? If so then why does it do it for the movies then? They aren't from ITunes either!
---With Cover Flow I updated the Album Art myself and have about 700 songs with art now. But I have two problems.
1. It won't display all 700 songs under Cover Flow!
2. It won't show them in order by song name! Can I change that?!? If not then how is it showing them by? What do I need to change?
---Are there any other video types supported besides that on Mpeg4 and that other weird type? If not why not? Its a pain to have to convert everything. Its almost not worth having this video IPOD if you have to go through sop much effort just to watch 1 stupid video. I mean I spent more money on extra programs now for music and videos then I did on the IPOD almost.
---Is there any way to transfer your music from one IPOD to another? I know some people say you can't but why? What about people like me who have music ripped from our own cds and NOTHING from ITunes? Its a REAL pain having to rerip all the cds, put them back on, rename all the songs, fix all the info...etc. Its taken me 4 days now. Apple needs to think about a "IPOD TO IPOD" music transfer kinda program.

Cover flow on the ipod can only be done (as far as I know) on Album by Artist Name. On iTunes you can change it around

Shared photo stream questions
Camera Roll (CR), Photo Stream (PS)
If I create a shared PS and share it with a friend, is this temporary like the main PS (most recent 1000 images)?
For example, if I put one photo in a shared PS and then take 1000 new photos (but I don't add it to the shared PS), presumably it will disappear from my main PS, but will the original photo disappear from the shared PS, too?
I noticed that each month I have a new monthly event titled, for example, "August photo stream", etc. Are these temporary, too? If I take 1000 photos in September, will the August PS event start to lose images, or will this only occur in the main PS section?
Apple's web site says "iCloud stores new photos for 30 days, so you have plenty of time to connect your iOS device to Wi-Fi and make sure you always have your most recent shots handy." What does this mean? If I take a photo on iPhone it's permanently in CR (until I sync with iTunes on OS X and then iPhoto offers to remove them from CR), but they're also in PS, which is temporary, right? If so, as long as CR is permanent, how big an issue is the 30 day rule?
Here's where I'm (further) confused...
On iPad, my PS section (the tab on bottom) only has 30, relatively recent photos. Each photo was taken with iPhone.
However, on iPhone, my PS section has 547 images. Some of these were taken as screen shots from iPad (even though they're not on iPad's PS??) Some of the images were "Save As... " image files from OS X, some were photos imported to desktop iPhoto from a camera. Many of the images were taken years ago. On desktop iPhoto, I have over 3000 images, but the images on iPhone's PS do not appear to be the most recent 1000 images imported to iPhoto.
So why did iPad's screen shots disappear from iPads PS yet appear on iPhone's PS?
Why aren't the two iOS device's PS sections the same?
Is this confusing to everyone, or am I just dense?
Thanks!You are most likely using the same apple id under settings>iCloud. If you just want to stop the photo sharing you can open settings>iCloud and turn off photostream. If you want to keep using photostream and still not share you need to set up an alternate apple id to use under settings>icloud

Slideshow crop photos problem when i close the thumbnail botton
In the slideshow i use thumbnail photo "turned on" to change the pictures (is it the only way to do it?) and manage them with crop function but when i later close thumbnail (i don't want visible) photos resize. Any suggestion ?
I have not a link yet, i'm preparing the graphic layout at the time. I bypassed the problem importing in muse the right photos size without use crop. Maybe i should see better edit photo functions tutorials. I'm new with Muse.

Is it possible to set up a separate folder in which to store photos, so they don't appear in the albums? For example, if I am using the phone like a flash drive, just as a means of transferring files from one location to another.

I edited several photos through Elements 7 and when I pressed SAVE a box pulled up and I just skimmed it and I thought it just said it was going to group my photo on top of the original, but now when I go to open the photo back up it is not a photo but a box with a crack down the center of it. When I try to pull it up and edit it more it reads "cannot open the picture because it is the wrong type file" I need these picture badly and I cannot even find the original. PLEASE HELP!!!!
While on the Editor space screen on PSE7, on the top taskbar, the first
button should be the FILE option followed by EDIT and so on. When you
click on FILE, one of the options on the drop down window should be
"Close". This is what I use to close and save my edited images. When you
are on the organizer this options are not going to be present, these are
only available on the Editor workspace.

I have had photo problems since the ios7 update. everything was backed up to my icloud. went into store tech backed up but now when i go to icloud i can't find pictures or videos. 1300 pics and some video's . i am devasted.

I got a iPod Photo 60Gb and try to connect this to my Ice Link Gateway 500 in my car. It work fine on my other car using icelink but doesn't work with the new one. It say it does support iPod Photo. I wondering what version should it be on?.. I test other iPod Nano that work fine on it. I guessing it doesn't detect the gateway 500 as it automatic show up on iPod Nano screen. Where my iPod photo saying It is ok to disconnect.

Is it possible to restore a no longer activated iPhone? (photo problem)
I gave my daughter my first generation iPhone when I upgraded to 3gs, which she uses as an iPod Touch, not a phone.
When she takes a picture, while the picture is saved (because we connect to iPhoto they load), however when she takes the picture, they do not display on the phone itself nor can she access through the photo app on the phone.
Does anyone know, is it possible to restore the device even though it is no longer activated as an iPhone? Or will doing so lock the phone?
Any advice would be so appreciated. Have searched the topics for tips on how to resolve the photo issue but was unable to find anything. Am thinking restore may be the only hope...?Tamara wrote:

Am not sure why either, but they definitely did. I looked at the sim card and it says 3g on it, which I know is just a marking and not exclusive to 3g network/phone. Therefore cannot be the original, as I purchased that phone June 2007, way before 3g.
Anyhow... was able to find a solution to the photo problem, which worked perfectly!

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
But do not be surprised if the v5 utility no longer works to do the setup. -
Firmware Fix for Power Off Problems?
I'm running out of time to exchange my 5G and I'm not sure if the general consensus is that a firmware update will fix the problem with the failure of the Ipod to power down while watching a video. Pressing and holding the play button will not cut off the Ipod. I have to go all the way out to the main menu and load a song before it will cut off. Anyone know if this will or can be fixed with firmware? Thanks!
TreoBudThat's exactly what it is. While watching a movie, the hard drive is almost continually spinning, especially towards the beginning. Sometimes, you do have to pause it, go to the main menu, and wait a minute or two before it will turn off. You can tell by the vibration in your hand - if it's vibrating, it won't turn off. The second it stops, it'll turn off. It's kind of annoying, but that's the way it works. No firmare update will fix it, it's a hardware thing.
