Firmware 1.1 upgrade will not install - even after uninstalling Parallels

I was asked to upgrade my firmware (on many occasions, actually). I go through the process and it will not install. It asks me to shut down the computer and continuing holding the button until the light blinks. It then makes a noise (high pitch tone), this stops, the mac screen comes up gray and a bar comes up and disappears immediately. The computer boots and then the firmware page opens and asks me to go through this again. I cannot get to "OK". I called Apple and was told this happens with Parallels installed and I should uninstall this. I have tried this and it makes no difference. There may be some files I should delete - but I wasn't instructed to do this.

very easy by booting up from a Non-RAID-Boot Volume.
This could be an internal or even an external Drive, doesn't matter.
One of the reasons I have two external drives for my tow Macs.

HP Product Improvement Study pop-ups will not stop even after uninstalling it.

I opted in to the Product Support feature when I was installing my HP Pro 8600 thinking this would be only a one time deal but I was wrong. At least twice a week the notification pops up that the information gathered is ready to be transmitted and quite frankly is getting more than annoying.
I have gone to the Control Panel and uninstalled the program for this feature, rebooted and still this message will not go away. Is there anything else that needs to be uninstalled or has HP planted something in the Registry that needs to be removed?
Are there any other options other than totally uninstalling the printer software and re-installing it? This last option shouldn't be an option at all as there should be an easier fix.

If you uninstall the program HP OfficeJet 8600 Product Improvement Study from the Control Panel, you should not see any popups unless the uninstall didnt work for some reason.
Can you go to All Programs\HP\HP OfficeJet 8600 and look for HP Product Improvement Study and click it. This should launch a screen that lets you opt out of the study. Click the I Decline button and you should not see any more pop-ups.

Flash plugin will not install even after installing the latest version Flash

When I go to a site that contains Flash content, it says "A plugin is needed to display this content" and there is a link to install the plugin. Additionally, there is a message at the top of the page that says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page" with an option to "Install Missing Plugins." I click the link to install the missing plugin, and a dialog box pops up that says "The following plugins are available:" and lists "Adobe Flash Player 11.0.1.152" with a check box next to it. The box is checked, and I click "Next" to install. It goes through the motions, and then tells me that "No plugins were installed." There is a link to manually install the plugin, which takes me to Adobe's Flash download page. I unchecked the box to pair McAfee Security with the download, and downloaded the latest version of Flash (to be honest, I've actually downloaded this exact same version about 10 times today). The dialog box pops up, I save the file, and once it has downloaded, I open the containing folder (my downloads folder). I then close all programs (including Firefox) except for the Windows Explorer folder that I'm going to run the installer from. I double-click on the Flash installer to run the installation. The installation process completes, the installer tells me that the download is successful, and my browser opens back up with an "Installation Successful" message from the Adobe website. Yay! My installation is successful... Orrrrrr not. Navigating back to the page with the Flash media - still have a message saying I need the plugin. Attempt to download plugin again...no dice.
THEN, I go to "Manage my add-ons" thinking maybe I need to enable the plugin. There is no Flash (or Shockwave) plugin listed on any of the menus - it's like it doesn't exist.
I downloaded the latest version of Java because I read somewhere that Flash requires Java to work; I installed the "Add-On Compatibility Reporter" so I could force Java to be enabled. It made no difference whatsoever, as best I can tell.
I also went to Adobe's page where you can see what version of Flash you're running (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) and it doesn't even show that I have Flash installed. In Internet Explorer, it does show that I have Flash installed, but it's the previous version (but that is likely due to the fact that I downloaded Flash from Mozilla, not IE, and they use different modes in each browser - so an update that you download from one browser does not necessarily apply to the other browser).
So in summary: I do not know what on earth is wrong here, but I am about as frustrated as I have ever been in my life. I don't know why the Adobe Flash installation is saying it is successful (is it lying to me??), but there is no plugin showing up in my Manage Add-Ons menu, and I have googled every possible combination of the content in this post and have not found a solution that works yet.

NOTE: Just discovered that Adobe is making a bigger mess than any previously.

Okay so, My computer has JUST recovered from a huge virus that decided to completely demolish everything but the computer was still able to be fixed. So i reinstalled windows and most of my drivers. Not the most common of iTunes installation error messages. That one often seems to be a side effect of the same problem that causes error 8007000b when you try to install Windows Vista updates.
To doublecheck, try getting some Windows Updates. If they error out with an 8007000b, try the following Microsoft troubleshooting document:

Charter Security Suite will not install even after they removed my existing antivirus

This is important to me because I am a quadriplegic who relies on my laptop to connect me to the world outside my bed aND MY SMART TV for entertainment.I tried unsuccessfully to load Charter Security Suite, I then contacted Charter tech support on 7/30 who took me through gotoassist - He confirmed that I had no existing antivirus on my laptop. He took down my firewall and again was unsuccessful at downloading Charter Security Suite. After that time I get a warning my computer has no antivirus and my windows 7 computer is unable to get automatic updates. He told me he would report the problem and I could expect a call from 24 to 72 hours from F-SECURE.I did not receive the promised call. i don't know if he did something to my computer that made anything better, but my situation is definitely worse after uninstalluing the working version of macafee. But I am really worried after he said, "It is not a real big deal, just don't go to any weird websites!" Hi Daniel, Sorry you're having hassle with this. I'm not familiar with the Charter Suite, but I assume from what you've said, it's a rebranding of F-Secure, so the advice I am suggesting below is based on that premise. The guy who said it's "not a big deal" having no anti virus was probably just trying to put your mind at rest, but in essence, he does have a point that if you stick to known safe websites, don't open any unexpected email attachments, and don't click on any popups, banner ads, or anything else which may look suspect, you should be fairly safe, as viruses don't tend to just appear out of nowhere, without any interaction from the user. That said, while this issue is ongoing, I would suggest that you download Malwarebytes and have that running as a backup. This is compatible with F-Secure so shouldn't cause any further installation issues, and will hopefully give you some piece of mind. The next thing I would suggest is to download and run the full McAfee uninstaller, which you should find linked to on this page of Uninstallation Tools. Once you have run the tool, then run the F-Secure Uninstallation Tool to fully remove any part installations of F-Secure, and try your installation again. As I said, the above is based on the assumption that Charter is the same as F-Secure in all but name - if this is incorrect, then I apologise in advance for any mis-information, but I don't think any of the above will do any additional harm to your computer. Let us know how you get on.

I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.7. After the upgrade I got a message that I needed to upgrade Adobe Flash due to security vulnerabilities. The Flash upgrade will not install. It simply sits and never installs no matter how long I wait.

Thanks for your response. I have previously reviewed this. The only potential problem it seems to resolve is having 2 versions of Shockwave installed. I only have one. The only thing I can think of to do is just uninstall the one version and see if it will trigger an installation. When I go to the Flash install site, I agree to the terms and get the next screen that says download will start. I never get a message asking if it's ok to run or anything. No matter where I look for a download for Flash I wind up at the same place with the same problem. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I had the same problem today. I called Apple support who transferred me to second level support and no resolution. I decided to try a combination of the items I have seen below.
I restarted my computer. I went to apple support download and downloaded the software EFI firmware update 2.0 by typing in search window. I made sure the power cord was pulled into the wall and the laptop had a FULL charge. I installed the update and the computer restarted.
I went to check the software update window after the update and restart completed and SUCCESSFUL.
I do not know why the Genius Bar or the second level support could not resolve my issues but, by me reading information here I hope at least this issue is resolved.

iPhoto needs to be upgraded in order to work with Mavericks. You can do that via Software Update or the App Store.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
Upgrading iPhoto does not involve your iPhoto Library. Your photos will still be there. But it never hurts to make a backup first.

Can you please try installing the Adobe Application Manager from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774.
If that doesn't work then the safest course would be to remove all Adobe Creative Software using the uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers. This should then remove the Adobe Application Manager folder also inside Utilities. Once the software is completely uninstalled and the Adobe Application Manager is removed then you should be able to reinstall from https://creative.adobe.com/.
