Firmware 400.21.013 causes mayhem on E63

Here is a first report of the serious problems that I have noticed (up to now) after installing latest update 400.21.013 on my Nokia E63.
I should note that my device was bought in Greece with full Greek localization through NOKIA official reseller.
When phone language is set to "Automatic" it does not display Greek menus, as it should. No way to do this.
In writing language there is no option for Greek anymore, as it used to be (only for English, Eesti, Deutch and Turkish).
On top of it all (in case you thought it is just a localization issue): outrageously enough, with the phone changed to english writing even in english language the keyboard is totally messed up. Some examples: pressing "y" produces a "z" character and vice versa; the full stop character has migrated somewhere in the button for the apostrophe; pressing the question mark character gives me double quote marks; the parenthesis button gives me a "u" adorned with an unashamed German umlaut.
Switched to factory default, reinstalled update, took out battery, prayed in Christ, Buddha and Mohammed.
Need I say more?
Nevertheless your help will more than much appreciated..

I DONT SEE ANY DIFFRENCE AFTER INSTALLING 400.21.013 DO I HAVE TO DO MORE INSTALLATION?

There are a few things here that make me think that this is the first nokia and the first update of FW for many of you.
when you update software, all of your installed after maket programmes, are gone and you have to install them again. If they are on your micro card, and you do the update, then anything that was on your phone pairing with the software on the card is - gone. you must reinstall all your programmes again. Just like if you reformatted your PC. Same thing.
many of the settings that you think you save, nokia software settings, are never brought back when you save backup and reinstall your settings on the phone. nokia has not got this 100% yet. i would say it is closer to 75%, and so i like to go through all the settings myself again. i have done many reformatts and have learnt that they are not worth the time. only worth it for a FW update.
If you want to update your firmware (refering to the orange user up top) and you are unable to because of your product code, then you have to change your product code and you can find out how to do that here: http://raj.jp/index.php/2008/12/05/the-black-art-of-firmware-updates/comment-page-1/#comment-588821 i have done it on two E71's and all is well.
Someone was talking about the connect/disconnect of the power and PC Suite when you are re/installing any settings, well your PC screen tells  you that this will happen and so you should be aware of it at the very least. ONLY DISCONNECT THE PHONE FROM THE USB CABLE WHEN IT HAS FULLY REBOOTED AT THE END OF THE PROCESS. YOU WILL KNOW THAT THIS HAPPENS AFTER YOUR PHONE ASKS YOU FOR YOUR PIN. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. any sooner and you will ftuck your phone.
Let me know of any other important tips.

  • Will be new firmware after 400.21.013 for E71?

The last firmware is from 22.10.2009 (five months),and E71 still have some annoying bugs:
    1. Answering call delay
    2. Phone freeze when destination number is busy
    3. Font size in mesg cant set on big (just small&normal)
    4. The stupid themes, the Contacts and Agenda is different the fp1 phones
I hope Nokia will not discontinue to support and let this bugs.....

In fact, the NSU software still suggest latest one available in my case is 400.21.013, my current FW version. However, the website (http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update) suggests also today version 500.21.008 for code 0559592. Weird...

  • E71-2 NAM Unlocked with 400.21.013 can't reload fi...

I'm hoping a Nokia guru (or better yet, an offcial employee) can explain to me how to reload firmware when the 400.x version I loaded is now pulled and we're down to 300.x
Within the last few months I obtained 400.21.013 when it was available for a few short days.  It seems to have been pulled and 300.x is all that's available now.
The firmware load initally failed, but them claimed to recover.  Since then I've had 2 corruption problems on the phone and 400.21.013 seems slower than 200.x version I started out with.
I would like to reload the firmware, but since 300.x is all that's available I can't.
Also, I did a soft reset and then a hard reset (phone wouldn't power on) after my most recent corruption issue (thanks to work for making me install their awful AV product) and it brough the phone back, but now has random icons in the installed folder for apps that have been on the phone at various times.  So I'm thinking this shouldn't have happened and a firmware reload is probably a smart move.
    Can someome please help?
    Thanks in Advance!

Reasons why a phone cannot update:
    1. It is a country variant - country variants often get the updates later, or have updates skipped altogether. A Turkish country variant product code for example, skipped v40 and updated from v31 straight to v50.
    2. It is network branded - phones acquired from network providers or these providers' stores SIM free are branded, and will not get updates until the networks approve and modify the updates to their liking.
    3. Special editions - These special editions are chartered editions and may never get updates unless taken to a Nokia Care center.

  • E71 firmware v400.21.013 power consumption

I recently upgraded the firmware of my E71 from version 300 to 400.21.013. Previously the battery lasted in normal use approximately three days. After the upgrade the battery drains in half a day. Has anyone noticed similar problem and is there a solution for it?

Noticed that too... on the 300 firmware nokia energy profiler showed constant energy consumption about 0,05W when not used.
Now just after the phone turns on the power consumption goes normally  (http://www.image-share.com/image.php?img=133/168.png), but if I ever use the bulitin WLAN desktop app/plugin it consumes every minute nearly 1W of power even if it's not used and scanning is turned off (http://www.image-share.com/image.php?img=133/169.png).
I have no WLAN availability scanning (it's turned to 'never'), and I always turn the WLAN desktop scan off.
The funniest thing at all is that when I 'delete' the WLAN scan from desktop (in personalization options)  the power consumption goes again as it was before using any WLAN connection (http://www.image-share.com/image.php?img=133/170.png)
    Magic?

  • Crashing after update to firmware v400.21.013 for ...

I'm using nokia E71 and I just update to firmware v400.21.013. Now it keeps report error and I can't connect to pc suite. After I download and install one software to MMC, I lost everything. Can I re-install the original firmware back? Please anyone can help. Thanks alot.

You can always reinstall the latest firmware. Reset the E71 after update. Dial *#7370# 12345 reformat, you'll lose all data. Make a backup first and restore without the settings. Just don't install programs or applications on the memorycard. Insert the card IN the phone and NOT on a PC or Mac to format. Remove the card by pressing the red button and choose remove card from the dialog option. If you insert the card later you should hear a short bleep.

  • Firmware 2.1 update causes GPS problems (Confirmed)

I bought 2 iphone 3g's, one for me and one for the wife. We both use the GPS alot and was happy with the performance. When ver. 2.1 became available we upgraded immediately and did not pay much attention to GPS performance, we were looking at battery life and 3G signal strength. I soon began to notice the GPS was not as solid as before and compared with the wife's and saw that her's was about the same so I left it alone. Then I noticed my wife's GPS was having big tracking problems while comparing with mine right next to it. So I did a restore on her's without restoring from backup. In essence her's had only ver. 2.1 on it. This did not help and was becoming very frustrated so I went to my Apple store and explained the issue and they decided to give her a new phone. The new phone had ver. 2.02 and I decided to try it without updating to 2.1. LET ME TELL YOU, the GPS is now solid and super accurate, side by side with my phone with 2.1 there is no comparison. After playing around with both phones for a day THERE WAS NO DOUBT THAT 2.1 WAS THE CAUSE. I headed back to the store and explained the whole story to them and they swapped mine in order to get a phone with 2.02 (which I did). My phone is now holding a solid signal and VERY accurate all the time. Side by side comparison shows absolutely no difference in position now. Spot on every time.
I know this is a long winded post, but the proof is in the firmware update. We will not update to 2.1 and will pray that 2.2 fixes this.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hey Florida...
Just for grins, try switching off WiFi.
I've noticed that having wifi on slows the acquisition of a blue-dot, sometimes for really long periods of time.
But for me, switching off wifi causes the phone to go immediately to a blue dot, and GpsCompass (app store free app) shows 25 foot accuracy.
I theorize that if you are within range of wifi that is giving inaccurate hints as to location it confuses the GPS chipset, and delays a true fix. My tests suggest that even a wifi access point that you are NOT using can feed inaccurate hints to your phone.
You could of course register your wifi with Skyhook.com but that sort of buts a bandaid over the problem rather than a fix.

  • GPS proplem with the firmware v12.0.013

I update my n95 with nokia software updater from v11 to v12,
with v11 the mobile with fully workin without any bug & i denied to update software for fear of any bug but i found accdentally the N.S updater & found them greating it in forums, anyway i download it then i try GPS ... it deticte Satillites but it does no calculate anything
any one know how to solve it or even how to redownload the old software but easy steps cause i only know N.S updater
    &thought it secure way..
    &thx

I've used my N95 with v10, v11, v12 and v20 firmware and GPS/Maps (in Europe, Asia and North America). v10 was the most unstable, v11 was mostly OK and with v12 the A-GPS really helped in getting the satellite lock quickly. Now I'm at v20 (just released).
If v20 doesn't help in your case, then I suspect that you might have broken hardware.

  • Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 causes immediate kernel panic

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I have tried twice to no avail now to install the keyboard firmware update. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this problem.
Given that I haven't had any keyboard problems, I am guessing that I can just ignore this update.
Note that contrary to the comment accompanying the installer that it will launch automatically, I had to start it manually both times.
Leopard's quality of updates has really tanked in relation to Tiger's. I have never seen a kernel panic before upgrading to Leopard... in fact, until Leopard, the kernel was so stable with Tiger that I was lulled into thinking that Macs don't have kernel panics. Leopard has provided abundant proof now to the contrary. I think that's a shame.

    David
You should also report this to Apple at <http://www.apple.com/feedback/> so that they can check whether there is a bug in the update or somewhere else. If they receive several similar feedback messages it will alert them to a problem. Generally they don't respond directly unless they want further information such as a copy of the installation log.
You could also attempt a re-instal in safe mode (startup holding the shift key until the Apple logo appears. If you haven't recently done so use Disc Utility to Repair Permissions and see whether this finds any problems. Even startup from your installation dvd, select language, then choose Disk Utility from the top menu and Repair Disk. All of these processes may allow the installer to complete its task.
Note that some firmware updates are slow completing their tasks and usually they advise that there should be no other activity on the computer until the process has completed. I've seen it mentioned that the computer may look to have frozen but to wait - not for ever though!

  • Software Update is causing mayhem!

I just ran the most recent software update on my iMac (I'm on an Intel-based, 10.5.1) and it completely caused havoc on my computer. I have some programs that crash and won't open, things like Safari can't open a web page without needing to force quit.
I've rebooted a few times but to no avail. Is anyone experiencing similar problems since their software update and if so - how to rectify the situation? Thanks for any advice.

One thing I noticed is that desktop icons after a leapord upgrade try to run the old versions of the programs and fail. I use apple mail my mail icon failed. I went directly into Finder and ran the mail program that was in there and then mail worked perfectly. Drag the old pre leapord icons to the trash can. I hope this helps. Rebooting isn't going to make it find the leapord versions of the programs.

  • Time Capsule firmware 7.4.2 causes poor AFP performance

I use the TC internal drive to share media files with my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.5.8) and a Windows 7 laptop. I DO NOT use the TC for wireless. Wireless is disabled on the TC and it is connected to a Linksys dual band wireless device via a gigabit ethernet connection. Here is the situation.
    TC firmware 7.3.2
Streaming a quicktime movie over wireless-N to the Macbook Pro over AFP works perfect.
Streaming a quicktime movie over wireless-N to the Windows Laptop over SMB works perfect.
    TC firmware 7.4.2
Streaming a quicktime movie over wireless-N to the Macbook Pro over AFP is choppy and pauses.
Streaming a quicktime movie over wireless-N to the Windows Laptop over SMB works perfect.
Streaming a quicktime movie over wireless-N to the Macbook Pro over SMB works perfect.
So I've isolated the problem to an AFP issue I believe. Using a protocol analyzer reveals that the AFP packet exchange between the Macbook Pro and the TC goes something like this.
    Firmware 7.3.2
    1 packet from Macbook Pro
~12 packets from TC (quicktime movie data)
    1 packet from Macbook Pro
~12 packets from TC (quicktime movie data)
    etc...
    Firmware 7.4.2
    1 packet from Macbook Pro
2 packets from TC (quicktime movie data)
    1 packet from Macbook Pro
2 packets from TC (quicktime movie data)
    etc...
There are other AFP anomalies too using firmware 7.4.2. For example, quicklookd will timeout and fail to create thumbnails for media content on the drive resulting in a console error message. This does not happen using firmware 7.3.2.
    What I have done...
I have done a hard reset and erased (after archiving :)) the drive contents using firmware 7.3.2.
    Then Upgraded to firmware 7.4.2.
Renamed the share, erased the contents again, renamed the TC, removed old keychain entries, etc..
Whatever I do, reverting back to firmware 7.3.2 always fixes the issue.
Any suggestions for firmware 7.4.2 or does it just break AFP.
    Thanks!

    Fixed my own issue.
After upgrading to firmware 7.4.2, I
Manually mounted the TC disk (finder -> GO -> Connect to Server...)
Server Address: afp://timecapsulename.local (this was the trick)
Set this to auto mount at login (System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items -> + -> Devices/YourMac/theTCvolume)
    All works now.

  • Networking Delay Causing Mayhem

First, I know that others have reported networking issues in Leopard. I wanted to start a new topic with my specific issue and see if others are having the same problem.
When accessing a website, sometimes there is a delay of about 10 seconds. Think "Contacting google.com" in Safari. This does not happen when in Windows XP. I am connecting to the Internet through a Netgear GS105 Gigabit Switch to a Linksys WRT350N Router to my Cable Modem.
I did a bit of tinkering in Terminal and found the same behavior when doing "ping google.com". There is a delay of about 10 seconds--sometimes--until I start seeing pings. This ring a few bells for anyone out there?

I fixed my problem! I had to remove the Active Directory stuff from Directory Utility. This has totally eliminated the problem. I hope Apple fixes this as I would like to continue to use AD on this system. At least, I have an interim solution. Hope this helps someone else out there...
