Firmware and Driver of ZEN Micro

I can't find the firmware of ZEN Micro 5gb and the driver to run in Windows Vista Home Premium 32bits, is it possible to give me the link? Thanks!

Finally I got success!
After downloading and?updating the firmware and installing all new drivers available using other PC with XP and a Pen-dri've I resolved the problem of?compatibility with my PC (Vista Home Premium).
Also I updated the Windows Media Player to use it for music transfering into MP3. It works very well!!
Thank you for?your help!

• What was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before M

I would like to know what was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before the MTP firmware?
Please make sure you are 00% on this.
Thankyou.

I think it does, but I'm not sure; since I wanted MTP, I only used .x firmware long enough to save the original Creative test files (with MediaSource, not ZMME) before upgrading to 2.x. And yes, I had to li've with 2..02's shorter battery life until 2.20.05 came out.
May I ask why you want to go back to .x firmware? The only thing that will get you is the ability to use it with Win98SE/2000/Me--but only if you can install Creative drivers on every PC you use it with. MTP requires WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0, but doesn't need any Creative software at all to work. (Microsoft has made an MTP driver for Win98SE/2000/Me, but it requires customization and may not be supported by other software. I'm tinkering a bit with the customization part right now.)
There are other pitfalls in changing Micro firmware families, in either direction--you'll lose all the files on your Micro, you'll have to install a different ZMME (and I've heard non-MTP ZMME isn't quite as full-featured as MTP ZMME), and you'll need a new plug-in for MediaSource to work.

• Very odd firmware problem for my Zen Micro..

Well, my zen micro froze and stopped working about a day ago. So naturally, I just pulled out the battery and put it back in to reset the player. Then, I found out my zen is not detected by Creative MediaSource or WMP . Also, the zen did not tell me what song was playing, but all the songs worked fine.
So, I go to the knowledge base to look for what to do. It said got to recovery mode then clean up and reboot, format all and reboot, finally reload firmware and reboot. Well clean up did nothing, format deleted all my data (which isn't that bad I knew it does that). Then I pressed reload firmware and it said the current firmware was deleted and to install and update.
So, I went to this site and installed the firmware updater but it isn't working. The updater says my player isn't connected when it really is. But, when I go to my computer still shows Creative Zen Micro is connected. It also still isn't detected in WMP and Creative MediaSource. On top of this, it won't let me get out of recovery mode because of there being no firmware.
So, my Zen Micro is stuck in recovery mode with no firmware. The firmware updater does not detect my Micro but my computer itself does know it's connected. What am i supposed to do?
I tried the troubleshooter and it didn't help at all. I've been unplugging and plugging the micro back in constantly and that does nothing either. I even found my installation original cd and it says please connect a player to activate the firmware update.
What do i do? :'(
(My e-mail to support came back with an automated message that didn't help in anyway)

The good news is you are not alone!? I have had exactly the same problem with my Zen Xtra. Apparently in recovery mode the normal drivers do not recognise the player, I came across a thread recently that said you need to load a special driver to recognise the player in recovery mode... only problem now is to find it again. When I do I'll let you know. Good luck!

• Zen Xtra 40G - PC Not Recognizing Unit after Firmware and Driver upgrade

I own a Zen Xtra 40G unit and have just recently upgraded the firmware to the latest version (.20.08). I then proceeded to upgrade to the latest Windows XP driver (.26.02) and after reboot, the system no longer recognized my jukebox.
I tried my room mates, still on an older version of the firmware, and his worked without a problem.
In order to check and see if it was a one time fluke, I uninstalled both the driver and Creative MediaSource and re-installed from the original CD.
Again, my jukebox (still with the new firmware) worked flawlessly. I then upgraded Media Source to the latest version (2.03.09) and rebooted only to find my jukebox still worked perfectly.
I then downloaded and installed the latest Windows driver again (.26.02) and rebooted. My PC stopped recognizing my jukebox again but my buddie's still worked without a problem.
Is there a known flaw with the Windows driver and the latest firmware version.
Could Creative fix the problem or let me know if there is a setting I need to change in order for my PC to recognize my jukebox under the latest software and drivers?

So am I to assume from that message you think I should revert back to the old driver?
Of course Technical Support was no help. Sometimes I think they either a) don't read English very well or b) don't read the entire e-mail.

• Zen Xtra won't connect to WinXP after firmware and driver upda

I have 40GB Zen Xtra on which I've installed the .20.08 firmware. I've also installed driver update .30.03 on WinXP. Immediately after doing that, my Zen refused to connect to the system. Normally, I'd get the 2-tone "device-connected" alert from the system after plugging it in. Now I get a single tone, repeated 3 times quickly and the Zen is inaccessible. (I do get the normal "device disconnected" sound when I unplug it or power it off). The player works fine, otherwise--I just can't sync it to the library on my PC. Anyone know what's up with this?

Well, that doesn't help. I uninstalled every Creative thing--the driver, MediaSource, etc--restarted the computer and installed the .30.03 version;? no joy, same symptoms. I uninstalled that, restarted? my machine and installed the .20.04c version driver, which seems to be the latest WHCL certified one. No change.
I strongly suspect the firmware now. I'm tempted to "Reload OS" diag option, but if the drivers don't work, I'll be stuck with a completely useless device.

• Zen Micro hangs up both in rescue mode and normal m

I've had my Zen Micro for about 2 months now but all of a sudden it just didn't want to start up at all (It came to the CREATIVE screen and then just stopped). Not knowing about any rescue mode, I decided to send it back to where I bought it. I got it back a few weeks later, with the message that I had to manually update firmware again but I didn't really know how I could since it wouldn't even be recognized in windows. I then came here and saw that there was this cool Rescue Mode thing. I started it up and just decided to format it all. I looked at it after 0 minutes but it was still saying "Formating all". Waited a few hours, same thing. Then I went to bed. When I woke up, the screen was blank and I thought it was done but it had just ran out of batteries. So I plugged it in and tried to start it up, but same thing with the creative screen. Then I decided to go into the rescue mode (again) and try to do the reload firmware. It have been standing at "Erasing firmware" for about 3 hours now and nothing has happened.
Should I just return it's

ey.. sad to hear that. i experienced exactly the same problem. i emailed the support team and i am attaching their reply:

• ZEN MICRO CONNECTION DETECTION & FIRMWARE PROBLEM! Please help

Last night i installed the new 'plays for sure' firmware for my creative zen micro 4gb. I have windows media player 0 and my system is running service pack 2 by the way.
The firmware installed fine and i went on media player to transfer all my music back onto the player.
This took ages! But it said it was on there ok.
Just to be sure i went into the E dri've- for the first time the player had registered there so i could check everythign went on ok.
All the music was there just fine.
I disconnected it from the PC and turned it on... and it's completely empty! I went to information in the player to check that what i was seeing was true and the player just crashed. The only way to turn it off was to remove the battery.
I have reinstalled the driver and reconnected the player and windows xp does the noise to let me know the player is connected... but it isnt being detected by media player and it doesnt come up in My Computer.
Please help asap!!! Sorry this is a long post!!!

This is the odd part. If you copied to the E dri've you must have copied to the USB mass storage area of the player (the player can be configured with up to 4Gb of USB mass storage that's ONLY for data files). The player should appear as a device in Windows Explorer for the audio part, so copy the files to that, NOT to the E dri've.

• I've installed firmware for my zen micro, now i can't use my creative software! Please he

I wanted to download some music from napster and to play it on my player it told me I needed a firmware upgrade. I knew from buying my player that I probably would need to upgrade so I did. Once I installed the upgrade, and plugged my zen micro in and now it will only let me use windows media player? to transfer my music to my player. I hate this software as it doesn't work brilliantly, I was really happy with the creative software, but now when I plug in my micro and open the creative software it won't recognise it. I've tried reinstalling the creative software but its made no difference. Also, a box keeps coming up with something called MTP what is this? Can anyone help me with this problem? I would really appreciate it!

MTP is microsoft's media transfer protocol. Essentially, your micro can now connect to WinXP SP2 computers with WMP0 without loading Creative drivers.
The new firmware you installed allows you to drag and drop files to your micro using windows explorer. In order to use any of Creative's software, you'll need to download and install updated versions from their website.

• Zen Micro with PC connection Problems and no firmw

I'm running on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and I have Windows Media Player 0.
...and my Zen Micro wouldn't be detected, so I formatted it completely and I tried reloading the firmware. My old Zen Micro with v firmware still connects perfectly well, but Windows just doesn't detect my v2 firmware (now no firmware) Zen Micro.
Advice, please?
:edit:
Windows DOES detect my Zen Micro now...but I still can't do anything with it. It appears as MTP player connected:

bkBlade,
Check this Knowledgebase article SID0053 and make sure the USB registry entry is correct. If you do make changes to the registry base on the Knowledgebase info, then try reloading the v2 firmware again.

• Zen Micro 2.20.05 (Audible) firmware has "battery drain" f

Since nobody responded to my questions about whether or not the "Audible firmware" for the Zen Micro (2.20.05) also applied the long-awaited "battery drain" fix for MTP/Janus users, I decided to test it myself by upgrading the firmware (even though I'm not an Audible user), then shutting it down and waiting 4 hours. I'm happy to report that my Micro "cold-booted" from the Creative copyright screen, just like ..0. So those of us that need subscription support (or Audible support, for that matter) no longer have to deal with the "battery drain" problem!!!
Since Creative still hasn't posted this firmware here, I'm reposting the link to it on the Audible site (as posted in an earlier thread):
http://download.audible.com/creative...le_2_20_05.zip
Download the file, then connect your Micro, open the file, and run the EXE file inside.
Audible users should also download and install the latest AudibleManager, as described in this thread (this step isn't necessary for non-Audible users):
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=88333
Since I have a third-party charger, I'll test it with my Micro later on to see if ..0's "locked charging" feature works with 2.20.05 as well. (It won't work right now because my Micro is fully charged.) I may also test to make sure it doesn't have the "super-drain" problem .0.02 had.Message Edited by RBBrittain on 09-9-2005 07: AM

A big Thank You!!! for letting us know about the firmware upgrade for the Zen Micro. I just downloaded the firmware upgrade and upgraded my Audible Manager. No problems. It warned me that all my music would be wiped out, but it is all still there. Playing great. Wonder why Creative didn't announce it here before Audible did?
luvmyrescuedogs
I think the warning is for upgrading from .x firmware in general. Changing between the .x and 2.x families wipes out the hard dri've; minor upgrades within each family don't. (I didn't lose any of my music while going from 2..02 to 2.20.05 either.)
It's hard to say why Audible beat Creative to the punch; my best guess is that Creative is applying EU volume limits to the European version before releasing it anywhere. (Audible's UK site doesn't list the Micro yet.)

• Zen micro with playforsure and removable d

if u have the playsforsure firmware installed on your zen micro, can you still use the removable disk function on computers without windows xp. also, can you still charge it on computer without windows xp?

88888888,
If you have the PlayForSure firmware, yes you can still use the Removable Disk feature of the player and it's also a yes for charging. Just make sure you slide the power switch to Lock position when you're charging.

• Zen Micro - Screen Displays "Firmware Probl

As an FYI for those with this issue.
Updated to the new beta firmware upon getting my Zen Micro. After having issues with Napster 2 Go, I got the service transferring the files to the Zen Micro. Listened to the files at night until I got the "Low Battery" message. Plugged it up to charge. Once fully charged, listend from about p til about 7p. The 5 minutes inactivity timer cut off the Zen Micro. Went to turn on the Zen Micro only to have the screen display, "Firmware Problem". I have rebooted, entered rescue mode and did a clean up and reboot, same error. I reloaded the firware to get back into the Zen Micro.

Meantone,
It would be worth trying a firmware upgrade, if you can, but it sounds like there might be a problem with the player.
I would advise you contact Customer Support directly for assistance.

• Zen Micro and Windows 2

I bought a Zen Micro 6gb on Friday and have spent all day today trying to figure it out.
-I use Win 2k
-the Micro came out of the box with firmware 2.20.05 installed
-all the functions seem to work but of course the device isn't recognized by MediaSource or by Zen Micro Media Explorer or by the computer. I just get the big yellow "?" in Device Manager and the "New Hardware Found" wizard asking for drivers.
-Removable Disk Mode works as it should.
Questions:
-Is there any way to get this firmware to work in Win 2k?
-Would it be possible to do "reload OS" and change the firmware to ..0? I cannot connect now, will I be able to if I do "reload OS"?
-is my only option to RMA or exchange? The box clearly said my OS was compatible.
hgchap

This thread is a few weeks old, but wonder if anyone might be checking it and possibly help me.
How does one find out what firmware is on the Zen Micro if you can't dock?
Is it listed on the box or in some documentation? I just looked on the CD and found this in Firmware folder (ZenMicro___0.exe) Don't know if that is what is on the Zen.
My original Zen (purchased early November) worked just fine. It froze up a few times, so I decided to take it back before the 30 days and got another (I also got the 2 year plan at BestBuy). I have spent the past few weeks trying to get it load drivers and it won't.
I had a long description of my issues and what I have done ready to post, but saw this thread and thought I would try and get some info here.
I'm guessing I will probably have to try and get someone at BestBuy to check/flash the firmware. I doubt that would happen. They don't want to help much.
If I can't get any help with this thread, then I might post and go with a new thread.
I have replaced with Zen #'s 2 and 3 and still no results.
My USB shows a Zen in Other Devices, but no amount of trying will get the drivers to work.
I would appreciate any help I can get.
Perhaps we could work offline with email. I would recap and finish off this thread when done.

• PETITION: Mini games in a future Zen Micro firmware upgr

I think it would be an excellent idea for Creative to involve some kind of mini game(s) in a future firmware upgrade for the Zen Micro. My reasons are as follows:
iPods and even iPod Minis both have simple mini games, this could be a good selling point.

A simple Pong- like game would be perfect to play while listening to music, when waiting in a movie theatre, etc. (I mentioned Pong because the Micro's set up is perfect for it).

This could be a potential make-or-break selling point for the Micro, as one of the only things that I see better with the iPod over the Micro is it's few games.

The games don't need to be anything big, but like I said, something simple like Pong to do while waiting. Thank you for reading my petition and it would be great if you signed.
