Firmware and other updates

I have a MBP purchased 11/1/07. I run and install Software Updates as they are offered. How can I determine what firmware update or updates, and other unknown update or updates are for my computer?

    ive also went in single user mode and done the fsck - fy & /sbin/mount -uw thing
    i did /usr/sbin/diskutil repairPermissions but it just stood still and didnt do anything (is this normal??) go back to work (apple store employee, yay) tomorrow but i dont really want to drag this down to the bar. so thank you for your help

    You need to update the information regarding what Mac this is and what version of OS X you're running.
    You show a PB G4, which won't run the Mac App Store.

  • Nokia 6300 unlocking/firmware and other questions

    Hi,
    I've bought a phone Nokia 6300 locked in Orange network. I went to a GSM shop and they unlocked my phone.
    On the net I read that based on IMEI code they find the unlocking code but instead they have opened my phone and "read" something with a device. What kind of method is that ? Is it better ?
    How can I check if it's completly unlocked ?
    Also, if the software from the phone will be erased and written a new one, a newer firmware version, there the phone will be still locked ? Where is that locking feature ? Isn't like the motheboard bios when you flash a new one everything is changed ?
    I saw on Nokia web site that I can update the firmware. The phone camed with 5.00 firmware customized by Orange, if I'll update to 5.50 which is on Nokia website, the customized Orange software will be erased ? Or should I go again to that GSM shop to erase the phone and write the new software with that devices ?

    If you have had the phone unlocked by any other means than obtaining the restriction code from Orange, then this is work carried out by somebody who is not an authorised Nokia technician, so you may have invalidated the warranty.
    Irrespective of the removal of the SIM-lock, the firmware version is based on the phone's product code which in your case will be a product code relating to Orange-version firmware, so you will get the latest version available for that phone and it will still be Orange-branded.

  • Power Mac G4 (sawtooth) AGP - Firmware and other issues

    So I was given an older Power Mac G4 AGP which I've been using while my Power Book G4 gets a logic board replacement but I've been having some issues with the AGP unit. How do you check to see what version of the firmware you have? I read a firmware update but it requires OS 9 to launch and I don't know if I need this or not. The other issue has been when I tried to run Firefox after successfully installing it. Firefox doesn't launch, it just opens and then closes. When I use Safari, the browser will work for about a few minutes but then it will freeze and I need to force quit it. I am running 10.4.11 and I was thinking of installing 10.5.6 but I'm not sure if this is possible with the Sawtooth. Do I need to upgrade the processor? Any advice or help is appreciated.

    Early models of the G4 (AGP) models came with OS 8.6; later models came with an installer for a model-specific version of OS 9.0.4. The latter disk will have a blue-gray label, be named "Power Mac G4" with a subtitle "Software Install", and has a part number of 691-2657-A (the part number will be in fine print on the right-hand side of the label).
    Non-current firmware will not preclude the machine from booting to that CD; a retail OS 9.0.4 Install CD (white label, gold 9, no model named) probably will not work, although a retail OS 9.1 or 9.2.1 Install CD should work fine.
    The current firmware version for the G4 (AGP) model is v. 4.2.8, which can be downloaded from this article -

    Note that to install that version the machine must be booted to OS 9.1 or OS 9.2.x from its hard drive, and the firmware update must be run from the same hard drive.
    Before installing firmware update v. 4.2.8, download and run DIMM First Aid (it's a free download) to verify the compliance of the RAM in the machine.

  • HDCP problems after firmware and thunderbolt update

    I just finished installing the recent Macbook Pro EFI Firmware update (version 2.2) as well as the recent Thunderbolt Software Update (version 1.0).
    I am now unable to play an HD movie that I purchased through iTunes on the screen of my Macbook Pro.  I was watching this movie last night before updating my computer with no problems.
    So...it seems likely that this is related to the updates.
    Anyone else have this problem or know a solution?

    Hello everybody .. I have had this issue since yesterday afternoon.. Some people are saying to keep restoring again and again until it finally goes through.. I have done so like 10 times on my MAC and then I used my husband's PC and tried it 4 times.. No success.. I called apple support, but no help came from there at the end, and the only thing they were able to suggest to me is to sell me a new phone just like mine for a discounted price..

    That will only make it possibe to go backward.. You will end up back with the IOS 5, but at least you will have a working phone and it will bring back all your contacts and everything else that you ever had backed up on icloud and on your computer. There might be descripencies with the Applications but again this is an issue easily solved, you can always download them back.
    Two more things: One, you do not have to download the old version of the itunes, the newest version worked for me without any issues
    When choosing to download the older IOS 5.1.1, you will need to figure out whether your carrier is GSM or CDMA but you can easily google this info online..

  • Downloading flash player 8 and other updates and get an error...

    Recently when I've tried to download updates to Norton Antivirus and today when I wanted to get flashplayer *8 it won't let me do it, this is the message I get after I pressed the download button.
    Safari can’t open the page “http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/installflash_playerosx.dmg” because it can’t find the server “fpdownload.macromedia.com”.
    I know it must be my mac as I downloaded both of these at work on another mac and all was fine.
    I might be being totally thick, but can anyone suggest anything?

    FWIW that link results in a "not found" message here. I suspect either the link is wrong, or the web site has changed something.

    This happens quite often with O2 branded phones.
    It's giving you that error message but most likely it doesn't have an update available for it.
    O2 are a pain for not letting it's customers update using the NSU.
    A nokia care point should be able to update it for you.

    Is this possible..... on certain podcasts I want to save every podcast(and delete manually if I don't want it) and on others I want to automatically update with the latest cast and discard the old one. How do I do this?

    I have similar problem. We are producing a 70 meg browser based game and would like the user to be able to cache the game to avoid reloading the game the next time. Can this be done if the user authorise the save? If, so how? We don't care where the game is cached .
    Can we prompt the user to download the file by providing a link from within the SWF application?

    I administer several Cold Fusion servers, most are at 8.0.1.
    A developer pointed me to a fix for a problem she was experiencing.

    8.0.1". The text repeatedly refers to this patch as a "hotfix", and
    the procedure to apply the patch is the same as for a hotfix. yet
    the patch is not listed or mentioned anywhere on the Cold Fusion

    Why is this hotfix not listed on the COld Fusion updates
    page?
    Most importantly, how can I stay on top of hotfixes, patches,

    I feel your pain. I have often been confused by ColdFusion
    patching and
    updates.
    As best as I can understand the process. Individual or small
    groups of
    related fixes are first released as a hot fix. These are
    listed on the
    page I linked for CF8. There are related pages for each
    version.
    Periodically all released hot fixes are packaged up into a
    Cumulative
    Hot Fix which is listed on the page you where looking at.
    It has always been my understanding to the recommendation is
    to only
    install hot fixes if one is experiencing the problem
    addressed by the
    hot fixe.
    If they every do an actual Update this is also listed on that
    page, but
    this is a major fix and results in a different version number
    for the
    product. And becomes what is downloaded into the future.
    I am not finding the link at the moment, but in a previous
    job I would
    receive e-mail notices when hot fixes, cumulative hot fixes
    and updates
    where released.

  • Muse [and other] update misinformation?

    There is something wrong with this image.
    Creative Cloud indicates Muse is 'Up to date' yet, every time I launch Muse I get the dialog to update.
    Every day the date changes. [I KNOW] there isn't a daily update.
    Note 1
    This is not the only mistakes the indicators are making.
    Edge Animate IS installed [ it's open and running at this moment ] yet the Creative Cloud update indicates it is not even installed.
    Note 2 - This is NOT spicific to this computer. I have the same result(s) on my laptop.

    Additionally - CC indicates that Edge Animate is NOT even installed - but it is,
    Ocassionally - when I open Photoshop it wants me to update when none is applicable.
    The issue is with the complete Adobe CC update system!

  • Why is my Garageband freezing after a few seconds of recording after recent iTunes and other updates?

    I use garagband regulalry for voice recording. It now freezes after a few seconds(if that) of recording. I use an Audio Technica usb mic with no problems. I remember this happening with GB afer another OS upgrade in the past.. Is there a problem or should I be looking for something on my setup? I run 14gb of ram, have a timemachine connected and use an apogee duet.

    and that made us think, that you still are using Mac OS Leopard, where the user library in your Home Folder is visible and easily accessible.

  • I just updated firmware and it dosen't work.

    I bought my router EA6500 and just updated firmware and it became a brick.The logo light keeps blingking and I can't even go into the setup.I downloaded the latest firmware and manually updated.It seemed went ok everything and said it's going to reboot but it went into this blingking mode.Is it because I did something wrong or it's because I bought a refurbished product.

    Where was the firmware downloaded? Was it from the Linksys website? Resetting the router may straighten this up. Press and hold the reset button for 10 to 15 seconds. Then, reboot and reconfigure it. I'm not sure which version do you have but you may check it on the system label that is found underneath the device. Select the correct hardware version and download the firmware from this link. Once accomplished, reset again the router and configure it. If the same thing will happen, it's best to contact Linksys and have it replaced.
