FIRMWARE / BIOS on the audio c

so i've been doing research here on the forums trying to figure this out.
basically, i am now trying to fully install my 3rd X Fi elite pro card. when i got either the 2nd or third card, i did an install on a test machine, starting with drivers from the CD, then applying the web update 5.
when i did that, i got a message from the driver update, that it had to update the bios/firmware of the audio card and reboot. at the time, i didn't think anything of this, i have had video cards where a driver update updated their firmware. i thought so little of it, i don't even recall the exact message, but I KNOW IT HAPPENED. and i am a CompTIA A+ certified tech, i know the difference between a driver and a fw update message.
so i did it and it seemed to do what it wanted and thats that. but now i find out creative swears up and down this is impossible. both in the forums and on the phone. see here:
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...blaster&page=4
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...id=37900#M0437
http://www.pcper.com/comments.php?nid=480
http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=26289
so i can't even get them to listen to this.
so anyway...
now, my 3rd card, which presumably has the newest firmware, is NOT EVEN DETECTED by the CD. i can't use the CD to install this card!? but the web drivers update 5 DO install this card.
they are sending me a new cd, which i predict won't work either unless the cd itself is somehow newer. my cd DID work, and is undamaged. so now why suddenly can't it tell i have a supported product?
i think the card is too new fw wise.
in any case i am so sick of creative. i can't even DL the vol panel app which would let me run the diagnostics, and i can't install it from the cd. my computer since installing the card does not reliably (almost never) go into sleep and hibernate anymore, (the only thing different is the audio card). i will never buy creative audio cards again, and i mean NEVER. this is the worst hardware exp i have ever had in 25 years of using computers.

MrSinatra,
I think it is very well possible that the drivers on your cd do not recognize the updated x-fi anymore. the cd is probably useless now.
a screenshot of this firmware update will most likely not be possible because you cannot repeat it! since you cannot downgrade the firmware, the update routine won't run again the next time even if you run the same driver update again.
let them call you a stupid idiot. it doesnt matter. you have seen it, i have seen it, others have seen it. so we know it happens, right?
as to what this cthelper.exe actually is, i have also wondered already. i also have read Soundcard sams comment as well and checked and i also do not see it anymore in vista. it seems to be gone. I have googled a little but it looks like nobody really knows what it does. its probably just not necessary anymore with the new drivers i suppose.
Just check your startup reg and disable it. see if it makes any difference. maybe u don't need it anymore either. maybe its just the old registry entry that didn't get deleted and still calls it at startup? just try. I can still see it being acti've in my Windows XP Sp3 installation (32bit) though. Seems like its just not acti've in vista anymore. just toy around with it a little. you'll notice if it breaks something if you mess it up ;-)
Oh and btw: there is another tool running now, its called Ctxfihlp.exe and it might just be a replacement of the old one...

You didn't answer the question. Did you install that SPECIFIC download I mentioned? This is fundamental to get the Touch to work with MediaSource.

  • Custom BIOS for the GT60-0NC

I must admit I'm rather rusty to low-level modding at all, so if I'm being awfully unspecific, do not hesitate to ask and question me.
Using the E16F3IMS.10U BIOS ROM || [ msi(dot)com/service/download/bios-18654.html ], what is most important to me at the moment is to have a normal BIOS (full unlocked?) and being able to enable Intel-VT-x.
If you got extra time and it doesn't take to much effort or time, I'd also like to have the "full boot" image with the MSI logo replaced with a custom picture (where if it becomes applicable, just provide format, resolution, colour space, etc and I'll post a link to the image).
I'l donate to you once everything about my request has been cleared up and agreed upon.
Thanks on beforehand for taking time to help me (and the community); it is much appreciated.

    Hello,
Yes can offer you unlocked bios + intel rapid storage firmware update to the latest versions.
About VT-x, its should be already Enabled in the latest version, ie your current one.

  • IMac G3 won't boot after updating the firmware and upgrading the OS!

    Hi! Everyone,
I have an iMac G3 333MHz (five flavors) which comes with 192MB of RAM and 6GB of hard drive. Originally, it was OS 8.5.1 installed, later upgraded to OS 9.2.2. Of course, the firmware has been updated by the appropriate method provided by the on-screen instructions before the installation of 9.2.2. After successfully updating the firmware and installing Mac OS 9.2.2, the system booted up and worked fine. However, after shutting it down and powering it up a few days later, I have encountered a critical problem:
    1. At first, the iMac would chime and displayed a smiley-mac finder face.
    2. No question mark appeared and the system halted because it stayed at the same screen for about 5 minutes! Also, the keyboard wouldn't respond. For instance, the LED signal light wouldn't light on when Caps Lock was pressed.
    3. I assumed that this is just a typical crash and rebooted the machine via the "reset" button on the right side of the machine.
    4. After restarting, well, no luck, the same condition. Therefore, I rebooted it again by using the method mentioned above.
    5. The condition of sticking at the smiley-mac finder face occurred again! However, this time the iMac wouldn't chime and just displayed the mac face.
    6. Another restart, well, it was getting worse... no chime and no smiley-mac finder face but a white screen.
    7. I was frustrated then and shut the machine down forcefully by rebooting it again and pressing on the power bottom quickly before the screen appears. Also, I unplugged the power cord.
    ---------- After a few hours later ----------
    8. Okay, I then plugged the power cord in and booted it up again, this time, it would chime but stuck at the white screen. => No smiley-mac finder face appeared!
    9. Rebooted it again, the result was as same as step 8.
    10. Another restart, the smiley-mac face finally appeared but still... stuck here and this time, no chime.
    11. I then shut the machine forcefully by using the method mentioned above and let the machine rest for about a day with the power cord unplugged.
    ---------- After resting for a day ----------
    12. I booted it up and it would chime, but no screen (the power button was orange, not green). I then forcefully shut down the machine.
    13. Waited for about a minute and powered it up. This time, I tried to clear the PRAM, but no chime and gave me a white screen. => No luck! As mentioned, the keyboard's LED signal light wouldn't light on even though the Caps Lock key has been pressed.
*Note: The keyboard has been tested on the other computers and it worked. Also, I tried different USB ports to plug the keyboard in. => The USB ports were all in working condition, as I can know from the last successful start up.
    14. Forcefully shut the machine down and tried to enter the Open firmware, no luck. It didn't enter and gave my a white screen.
    15. Conclusion:
    1) After resting for a while, the iMac would chime.
    2) Rebooting too much times would cause the machine not to chime and leaded the screen to become white instead of the smiley-mac finder face.
    3) However, rebooted the machine when the screen became white, the smiley-mac finder face would appear again without chime.
By the way, I could hear the hard disk spinning up so that means the hard disk is working.
Can anyone help me solve this problem? Is it related to the firmware update? Any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks!
    Andy

OK, I will try replacing the PRAM battery. Also, the PowerMac G3 and the other iMac 233MHz had the dead batteries. They are still working though... Should I replace them along with the iMac 333MHz? In case of not replacing, will they malfunction in future times? There are some symptoms on this two machines: 1. iMac 233MHz - No chime and no sound when adjusting system volume (the bi sound is not available), but iTunes and other applications can still use the audio device and output the sound via internal speakers; 2. PowerMac G3 450MHz - Will chime but sometimes hard to boot: 1) Chime but no screen; 2) No respond after pressing the power button => the power signal light won't light on. Every time I experienced this, I would open its case, pressing a small button (not quite understand what it does... anyway, just works if system halted.) near the PRAM battery and wait for about a minute, then close the case, and it boots. However, I have to reset "Date & Time"...

  • MacBook core duo Sept. 2006  - the audio is a mystery.  Any analogue out has bass boost with bass distortion.  With digital out, by USB or Airport Express Airtunes, the frequency response is normal.  Somewhere, Apple put in an analogue bass boost.. why?!

Since new, my Macbook core duo has sent all audio to all analogue outputs with frequency distortion.  Some physical hardware or firmware in the analogue section adds a bass boost to the frequency response of the audio....  And, this boost adds bass frequency distortion to most, if not all, of the audio analogue output.
This happens for all audio sources, players, iTunes, videos, streaming audio/video, movies...  any sound source available to the Macbook.  No-one with whom I have talked about this problem, has ever heard of it.  Not elegant ideas for reducing it are to use equalisers on players and iTunes.  iTunes even has a preprogrammed "bass reduce" on its equaliser, as if it knows already that this inherent bass boost "feature" has been built into the Macbook, and cannot be defeated by the user.
The digital audio is of sufficiently high quality to play well on a very good to excellent sound-system;  so, it's a shame someone has mucked around with the frequency response of the analogue conversion, by designing the frequency distortion right into the computer.  This motherboard, (which includes the sound-section), has been replaced, along with the speakers, and everything sounds exactly the same as it was before.
To receive a flat frequency response and no frequency distortion, I listen on one receiver using Airtunes, (it doesn't matter whether or not the analogue or digital output jack is wired analogue or connected via optical cable....  the freq. response is flat);  and I listen on a high-end stereo system using an USB output port to an A/D converter, passing the analogue result using long patch-cords connected to the "line-in" jacks of the stereo.  The bummer is that most of my audio sources are not derived from iTunes...  hence, I cannot use Airtunes with Airport express for them.  I've tried using "Airfoil" without luck.  The sound becomes distorted with sibilance and other frequency anomalies.
Question:  has anyone else discovered this sound imperfection in any Mac product?  And, does anyone know if Apple is aware of it?  Finally, has anyone found an Apple fix for the problem;  or, at least, come up with better solutions than I have?
Thanks heaps for any impute and answers you may supply!!  junadowns

When it comes to performance, you won't gain much by compiling linux by yourself! Just use the linux package from [core] or if you want a bit more performance, install the ck-kernel from
    [repo-ck]
    Server = http://repo-ck.com/$arch
(this has to go to the bottom of /etc/pacman.conf)
(use that one which is best for your cpu (in your case this might be the package linux-ck-corex).
Hmmm, Linux-ck-corex doesn't even load.. I am now trying to install the generic one. Hope it works.
Edit: I will first try linux-lqx...

  • Why is the audio on my video getting out of sync when it is imported into itunes?

    Hello,
I have videos in the MP4 Format, and have imported them into itunes. However, during playback in itunes, the audio gets more and more out of sync as the video plays. By the end of the film the audio can be 5-6 seconds out!
What's strange is that the source file, played with quicktime or Windows media player, is fine and works perfectly.
Why is the audio stretched once it is imported?
    Thanks,
    James

    I have the same problem.
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H
    Chipset:
    North Bridge: AMD 785G
    South Bridge: AMD SB710
Video: Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200
HDMI Audio through the HDMI port out to the TV.
Tried on Windows 7 Pro 32bit and Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.
Tried with the integrated ALC889A audio device enabled and disabled (It seems that the video card drives the HDMI audio device though, because it still appears in Windows even if I disable the Audio device in BIOS).
    Latest iTunes and drivers installed.
I have already tried all sugestions about matching Windows Audio settings to iTunes settings (bit depth, frequency rate).
Apple, any suggestions? I'm not having a great customer experience after buying a pair of HD movies in iTunes.

  • Is firmware update (G4 Sawtooth audio fix) mandatory for upgrading to OSX?

Ive heard that you have to use the old Mac OS 9.1 to update the G4's firmware before installing OSX tiger. My problem is that ive bought a G4 without any existing operating systems and only have OSX tiger to put on it. I think the firmware is just an audio fix or something,
    has anyone updated without it?

Sorry but no. You have to use Classic to update it. Yeah well PC has no need to update firmware becuase they don't use Open Firmware, I think it's a UNIX thing. Not really sure on it, but if you'd like to know you can go to http://www.openfirmware.org
By the way, if you want Classic I can send you a disk that worked for my G4 AGP, I ordered two by accident. It installed in literally 2 minutes. It's extremely easy to install and it's worth it, booting up with new firmware is quicker. Not by much, but with a 450 mhz processor you'll notice the difference!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Hi
    1) Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Remove any devices connected to the notebook.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook - check if the speakers are now working.
    2) Please First check if the speaker icon on the unit is not muted.
    3) Go to device manager and uninstall the Sound driver and restart and unit will install the driver automatically.
    4) Try doing System restore to the date when the unit was working fine.
    5) Try to update the driver from hp.com website for Audio & Bios.

  • My ATV 2G with latest firmware doesn't stream audio to Airplay Speakers

    Hi everybody,
I have an AppleTV 2G upgraded to the latest firmware (5.1.1 / ios 6.0.1).
My problem is that it doesn't stream audio to my airplay speakers. I have the B&O Beoplay A8.
The speakers work fine with my ipad and iphone, but not the ATV.
I checked the aiplay settings, the speakers appear there normally and I have ticked them and they are the selection for the audio output.
Instead AppleTV audio is on the TV.
    Can someone please help me.
I got the speakers just for this reason. To listen audio from movies on ATV from the speakers.
    Every help is appreciated.

Timing-wise the problem coincided with upgrading the firmware on my Airport Express to 7.6.4 (reverting to the previous version doesn't seem possible).
Reverting to an earlier firmware version is possible with v5.6 of the AirPort Utility. Note: This version runs fine under OS X Mountain Lion but will not install without a workaround. Let me know if you need it.

  • How to launch EFI shell from w530 firmware/BIOS?

I'm trying to install Windows 8 Pro with SecureBoot (and hence necessarily UEFI) on a w530 upgraded to the v2.06 BIOS.
This technet document indicates that I need to boot the installation media in 64-bit EFI-mode.
If I switch the BIOS to only boot using UEFI, then the DVD that I burnt from the ISO I downloaded won't boot, i.e.. if I press F12 to open the Boot Device List and then select the DVD in the Ultrabay optical drive, the screen goes blank briefly and then returns to the Boot Device List.
(If I allow Legacy/BIOS boot then the media boots fine, but the resulting installation doesn't use UEFI/GPT, and hence can't be booted with SecureBoot -> not what I am looking for, but consistent with what the technet document states).
The document linked above indicates that I need to "Use the EFI shell or the firmware’s “Boot from file” menu to launch the Windows EFI Boot Loader on the installation disk".
Hence my question in the subject of this message, how do I enter the EFI shell from the w530 firmware/BIOS?
Alternatively, is there a way to select a select a file to boot from?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you for the reply.
This post gave me the solution I needed, I copied all the files from the NTFS partition on the USB install media I had, reformatted it as FAT32 and copied the files back.
In my case I set the BIOS to only boot UEFI, but didn't enable Secure Boot.  Once I had the FAT32 partition on my install media, my W530 would boot from the media, and I could install Windows 8 under UEFI.
Once installed, I turned on SecureBoot and had the end result I was looking for.
I perhaps made life difficult for myself by downloading the ISO from the upgrade assistant, and when I discovered the upgrade assistant wouldn't also let me create a USB install media, I made one myself using the Windows 7 USB download tool.  Burning a DVD from the ISO wasn't helpful (the W530 would not boot from it when forced to UEFI booting, and if I booted from it under Legacy mode, then the installed result wasn't UEFI based, and hence would not work under SecureBoot).  Perhaps if I have simply opted for the USB download option, it would have created a FAT32 based media for me directly.
BTW, I raised a support request with both Microsoft and Lenovo to try and reach the goal.  Richard from Microsoft AU was very helpful, and I'm confident he would have got me there if I hadn't found abvasili's post first.

    Hi
Yesterday I updated the firmware on my NC522SFP NICs to the newest one availiable (4.0.593), but I have a question that I need some help answering. Why does the firmware update utility say that my active firmware is either of the old nor the new firmware? Take look at this:
