Firmware concern with SL on external HD

I plan to install SL onto my Leopard bootable clone for testing — and presumably, when I boot from that Snow Leopardized clone, it will update my Mac's firmware.
...But, when I later boot from my Mac's internal HD running Leopard, will I need to do a special kind of boot to ensure that the Leopard version of the firmware is restored? ...Or will it be automatically restored by default?
Thanks,

Your internal will be fine; no action on your part will be required when you boot it to Leopard again.

  • Concern with bug fix in V9 SP14

My team is concerned with the following fix in V9 SP14 of SAP Sourcing:
    2945814/2013
    Property contracts.Enable_publish_to_supplier_check.External_Phase has been
introduced to control the behavior of phase change of contract document using “Publish to
    supplier” Checkbox .
When set to true, the contract document can be changed to external phase only when “Publish to supplier” Checkbox is checked on the Header tab of MA.
When Set to false, the contract document can be changed to external phase irrespective of the status of the publish to supplier check box (checked or not checked) on the Header tab of MA
The issue being, if you do not check the "Publish to Supplier" checkbox and move to an external phase, the supplier receives email notification but does not have access to the contract in the system.  We were hoping to get a better understanding of the purpose of this "fix" as it seems to us that it would just cause confusion to the supplier.  I'm hoping someone can provide some additional information on the purpose of putting this fix in place.

    Hello
Contract Documents that are moving from an Internal Only phase to an Externally visible one can only be seen by their suppliers if the Publish to Supplier checkbox is checked (and the publish date is in the past) on the relative Agreement document.  Some of our customers want to be warned when they have not checked the Publish to Supplier checkbox on the agreement and others do not want to be warned.  We added a new system property to provide our customers with the ability to choose how they want CLM to behave.
If the new system property contracts.Enable_publish_to_supplier_check.External_Phase is set to FALSE (default value) CLM will behave as it did prior to SP14.   This means that you can change a contract document to a phase that is visible to the suppliers without checking the Publish to Supplier Checkbox on the header tab of the related Agreement.
However even though the Contract Document is in an external phase (example: Supplier Draft or Executed), the suppliers still cannot access it from the Supplier portal unless the Publish to Supplier Checkbox is checked.  Alerts to the Supplier of the newly visible contract document were triggered by the contract document phase change. Suppliers were receiving the Alert even though the Agreement owner forgot to check the Publish to Supplier checkbox on the Agreement.  This is the main problem we were trying to address.
If the new system property contracts.Enable_publish_to_supplier_check.External_Phase is set to TRUE then you are prevented from changing the phase of a contract document from an Internal Only to Externally visible to suppliers unless the Publish to Supplier Checkbox is checked on the Agreement.   This ensures that any externally visible contract documents can be accessed by the suppliers by ensuring that the Agreement owner has remembered to check the Publish to Supplier checkbox on the relative agreement.
Many of our customers do not wish their suppliers to use the Supplier Portal to see Agreements right now but plan to use that feature in the future.  Even though they have configured some of their contract document phases as external they don't want Suppliers to see externally visible contract documents until they are ready to check the Publish to Supplier Checkbox.   In the meantime they don't want to be prevented from changing the phase of a contract documents to Executed (for example).  These customer should leave the new property set to FALSE.
For those customers that want their suppliers to see the contract documents that are in an Externally visible phase and need to be reminded to check the Publish to Supplier checkbox first should set the new system property to TRUE.
    I hope this helps.

  • Concerns with Dropbox to store/backup referenced images?

    Hi,
I'm looking for an alternative for my current cloud backup solution (Mozy) since the current scheme requires me to pay 23$ per month for my ca. 260Gb of image data. Since I also pay 10€ per month for 1TB of Dropbox space, I seriously consider to cancel the Mozy subscription and use the available Dropbox space as a cloud-based backup solution for my original images (next to my Time-Machine backups).
To be clear : I only work with referenced images. I have no originals inside my Aperture library. I do not plan to transfer my Aperture library to my Dropbox. I do not need to work with my originals from multiple computers. I only use Aperture from one single iMac.
I have read multiple threads about Aperture/Dropbox combinations, but they all cover storing your library on Dropbox. That's not what I intend to do. I just want to transfer the folder structure (where my referenced images are stored when importing into Aperture) to Dropbox.
Are there any concerns with storing the referenced images on Dropbox?
    Thanks for your help,
    Mitch

    Funky,
What is the best way to back it up? Just copy the files to another hard drive?
That will definitely work, but how will you tell what you have backed up and what you have yet to backup? A better solution (if you are using Aperture 3) is to use the backup function when importing.
I am also using Time machine, I assume that it is backing up attached external drive (I have not "excluded it"), is that correct?
Well, that's a Time Machine question, but according to the following thread, just because you didn't explicitly exclude it doesn't mean it's not excluded.
has anyone had good experiences with on-line backup solutions?
You should search the forum for a thread with lots of input from the last week or so. There was a lot of talk about some on-line backup.

  • Any installation concerns with Mavericks?

    Any installation concerns with Mavericks?

There can always be concerns with upgrading OSXs. Incompatable software, failing hardware being put under extra stress ad being found out, or just not being happy with new or loss of old features. Everyone's work habits are different.
I have had no concerns at all, but others have.
    Advice?
    1. Backup you current system and data. Preferably to a bootable clone. Then you can reinstall later if you find it does not suit your needs.
    2. Consider installing Mavericks on an external drive or another partition first and see if you are happy with it.
    3. Read as much as you can about Mavericks (not just in troubleshooting forums such as this, though. It only contains posts from the few who are having problems or are unhappy with changes.) Make sure the features suit your needs first.
    4. Upgrade all software to current Mavericks compatable versions.
Just a few things to consider. Others will add others, I'm sure. But for me, Mavericks is faster and more stable than any recent releases of OSX.
    Happy computing

  • How do I use my late 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output.

May be this question has been asked thousand times. how do I use my mid 2011 iMac ( with thunderbolt) as external monitor for laptop/Xbox or other device with hdmi as output. if apple hasn't removed that feature and has just moved that functinoality to thunderbolt then how can I use it. currently there is no laptop available with thunderbolt output. no 3rd party converter available. whats the use of having feature on latest functionality if we cant use it. I wish they would have made one port has mini-dvi and other thunderbolt for backward compatibility untill some vendor comes up with converter.

    It Says :
Mac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) and later computers support Target Display Mode via Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable (2 m) when the source is another Thunderbolt-equipped computer.
Name one computer model/vendor which has thunderbolt as output for display + audio. this is so stupid to move to new technology without availbility of its compatible devices.

  • Collective posting of Inbound Delivery with reference to External ID

    Hi,
I have created few Inbound Delivery (for different PO) with same External ID reference.
Now when I try to process these Inbound Delivery through T. Code: VL06IG with reference to External ID, system doesnot consider any Inbound Delivery.
The External Identification Type used is "Free usage".
I have checked in the Inbound delivery all the informations are correctly copied. for e.g. the storage location, etc. Also the Storage location is WM activated
Can you please help me if I am missing any settings.

First of all I want to clarify this transaction will pick deliveries which are ready for goods receipt.Tat means pick and confirmation should be completed. Now you have to check all your inbound deliveries which has same external id Picking and confirmation completed ?.If yes are you entering same test external id which is in delivery in report.Just copy test in delivery and paste the text in report.System will pick those deliveries.Text is case sensitive.so you should type text correctly.I have tested your scenario and it is working fine.

  • Success with adding an external eSATA drive to a Verizon FIOS DVR

August 4, 2012 - Success with adding an external eSATA drive to a Verizon FIOS DVR
I just upgraded from a Comcast DVR to a Verizon FIOS DVR.   I upgraded because my old DVR was limited to 500GB (1/2 TB) on the internal drive and the new FIOS DVR allowed for a much larger external eSATA drive.   Selecting a viable external drive for the FIOS DVR was easier said than done.  The three drives listed on the Verizon web site as compatible with FIOS DVRs are no longer manufactured by western digital and are not available on the market.
The DVR that I received from Verizon was a Cisco "CHS 435 HD DVR" that came with a 500GB (1/2 TB) internal drive.   This is one of their "Multi-Room DVRs" that allows other set top boxes (not DVRs) to watch videos recorded on it.
I selected a western digital "WD30EURS" eSATA disk drive because it was a follow on product to one of the three listed as acceptable by Verzion on their web page and it was 3TB in size.  I ordered from amazon.com for $170.99.  This drive is a "bare drive" so it does not come with an external encloser or a eSATA cable.
According to the Western Digial web site this is a AV-GP drive:  "These drives are designed to last in high temperature always-on, streaming digital audio/video environments such as PVR/DVR, IPTV, and video surveillance systems."
    http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/AAG/ENG/2178-771131.pdf
I got a "Macally G-S350SU Hi-Speed eSata/USB2.0 External Storage Enclosure for 3.5inch SATA HDD" to hold the drive for $34.39.  I chose this one because it does not use a fan that could cause continious noise.  The box is made out of metal so it cools itself as long as it is exposed to air (not covered up).  This box comes with an external power supply that has a small transformer that plugs into a wall outlet.
Then I needed a eSATA cable.  I got a "StarTech 6-Feet Shielded External eSATA Cable M/M (ESATA6)" for $6.50 and a 3-foot version for $5.90.  I went with the longer one so that the cable would be less likely to become accidentally unplugged if I need to move the drive or the DVR.  The cables and the drive houseing came from the same Amazon provider so it saved me on shipping. The drive came from Amazon/Western Digial directly but they do not have external housings or eSATA cables on that site.
The total cost was $255.56 including shipping for all these items.
I went with the largest (3TB) drive from western digial's AV-GP line to avoid a future upgrade from a smaller drive to a larger drive.   There is no way to copy videos from one external eSATA drive to another drive because they are formatted by the FIOS DVR in a propriatary format.  That would mean that any future upgrade would require losing all recorded files during an upgrade.  That also means that there is no way to back up the contents of the drive to protect yourself from hard drive failure.
The installer who setup the DVR did not want me to plug in the drive while he was there and explained that I was on my own when I attached this kind of personal device to the DVR.  When I plugged in the new eSATA drive it was automatically discovered.  I was asked by the DVR if I wanted to format the new drive.  I answered yes and within 2 hours the drive completed formatting.   I did not watch the boring format so it could have finished faster.
When I started recording new videos they go directly to the external drive automatically and avoids the internal drive.  It had no trouble recording two HD shows and playing a recording at the same time.  I now have 20 hours of HD video recorded and the 3TB external drive is 17% full.  So far my experience with the external drive has been great.   No problems or issues.   Learning the new remote control, new DVR menu system, and web browser control of the DVR from a laptop is another story.  It will take some time to figure out how to make all the new features work.
It took me a while to figure out how to make this work since the verizon web site made useless suggestions and pointed me to products that are not available any more.  I could not tell if this really would work until I plugged it in and then I was pleasantly suprised that it did.  I have had this working for 3 days without any issues.  I hope this post makes it easier for you to add an external eSATA drive to your DVR.
Here are the three items ordered from Amazon to make this work:
Western Digital 3 TB AV-GP 3 TB SATA 2 Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Driv...
Macally G-S350SU Hi-Speed eSata/USB2.0 External Storage Enclosure for 3.5inch SATA HDD
StarTech 6-Feet Shielded External eSATA Cable M/M (ESATA6)

You are right. I can only access 2TB of my 3TB external drive. That gives me a total of 2.5 TB counting the internal (0.5 TB) and external (2.0 TB) drives. This is a significant improvement over the just the 0.5 TB internal drive. I have not been able to find a reason for this limitation. Cisco and Verizon do not mention any limits that I can find. I hope that a future BIOS upgrade could provide access to more space but this would probably require me to reformat the drive and lose everything recorded.
I paid $170.99 for the 3 TB WD30EURS drive at amazon. I could have gotten away with spending only $116.99 for the 2 TB WD20EURS drive. Not worth returning at this point so I will stay with it. Makes me glad I didn't buy the most expensive 6 TB external  monster drive available from another company.
I bought: 3TB drive: Western Digital 3 TB AV-GP 3 TB SATA 2 Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive WD30EURS by Western Digital
I could have bought: 2TB drive: Western Digital AV-GP 2 TB SATA II Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Internal Hard Drive - WD20EURS by Western Digital
    Details of what I learned:
The external 2 TB drive now has 41 hours of HD video recorded and claims to be 34% full (66% free). My estimate would allow me to have aprox 120 hours of HD on the external drive (2TB) and 30 hours of HD on the internal drive (500GB) for a total of 150 hours of HD. This will keep me happy for the near future.
There is a hidden "diagnostic menu" that is not normally accessible or documented by CISCO or Verizon. This menu has a lot of interesting info on the inner working of the DVR. There was an obscure reference to this menu on another forum.
    To access this diagnostics menu:
    1) Get the DVR into normal live tv mode (no menu, no guide, no pause ...)
    2) Go to the Cisco CHS 435 HD DVR (not the remote control) and press these buttons on the front of the DVR: Press both the Left Arrow "<-" button and "OK" button at the same time and hold them both down for aprox 5 seconds.
    3) The "Verizon FiOS TV Diagnostics Menu" menu will appear. The menu can then be used by the remote control.
    4) I chose "D03 Memory / HDD" and then "Hard Disk Information" and finally "OK"
A five page disk report appeared. With a little bit of interpretation I discovered:
The Internal Drive is know as "drive 1/hdc1" has 461 GB total space with 454 GB free.
The External Drive is split into two partitions "hdc2" and "hdc3" (aka two mount points).
"drive 2/hdc2" has 1007 MB total with 317 GB free
"drive 3/hdc3" has 1007 MB total with 974 GB free
The normal DVR menu has an "Eject" feature that allows you to stop the external drive and make it safe to remove it from the DVR without losing anything via an unplanned drive removal. This can be found at "DVR" button on remote then "Settings"->"External Hard Drive"->"Eject".

  • Performance concern with directory server implementation

performance concern with directory server implementation
I first posted this at metalink forum, and was suggested to post it here instead.
    Hi,
I'd like to get any feedback regarding performance of oracle directory server implementation. Below is what I copy&patested from 9i Net Services Administrator's Guide, I found no 'directory server vendor documentation', so anything regarding this is welcome too.
    Performance
Connect identifiers are stored in a directory server for all clients to access.
Depending on the number of clients, there can be a significant load on a directory
    server.
During a connect identifier lookup, a name is searched under a specific Oracle
Context. Because of the scope of the lookup, you probably want users to experience
relatively quick performance so that the database connect time is not affected. Users
may begin to notice slow connect times if lookups takes more than one second.
You can resolve performance problems changing the network topology or
    implementing replication.
See Also: Directory server vendor documentation for details on
    resolving performance issues
    Thanks.

I have a Airport Extreme with a 1TB external HD connected to it.  I have it set up so my Macbook Pro and PC's in the house can access it.  i have some files that i would like to protect(sensitive personal info.).  Is there a way that can be done where as certain folders are password protected?  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

Would a good workaround be to use disk utility to set up a password protected sparse image, of course being connected directly to the Mac, then connect the drive to the Airport Extreme?
Then, couldn't one use that drive and protected files as normal on the airport? It would just require one extra step of using a Mac to set things up first.
I disconnected my Airport so cannot check it out for myself.

  • Synchronisation with a slower external signal

    Hello,
I would synchronize 1 KHz continuous acquisition with an slower external clock. For example, I have a 100 or 200 Hz external clock and on each clock signal, I would read the acquisition buffer.
On which pin of the DAQ board could I connect the external code ?
Which function could I use on LabVIEW to synchronise the application with the external clock ?
    Thanks for your input
    Hubert Robitaille

    Hello;
I don't know if I got your application need correctly by your description. By my understanding you want to have multiple external signals clocking each channel of the DAQ board.
If that is the case, it's not possible, since the DAQ board accepts only one Scan clock pulse train. One thing you can do is to use the fastest clock as the external scan clock, and then skip some points on the other channels so you can collect the datapoints that match each scan clock needed.
    Hope this helps.

I have a strange problem with linking to external vob-file. I
have created a link using BudApi:
    on mouseup

This code opens mpg-videos correctly, but nothing happens

thing is that when I change the default program for vob-files to
WinDVD this code works and the file opens, but when I change the
default program to Nero Showtime this code doesn't do anything
(when I open the file 'manually' from the folder, it opens
correctly on Nero Showtime). My client uses Nero Showtime, so I

If you open a command prompt, do you get an association

    example for .txt files:
    C:\>assoc .txt
    .txt=txtfile
    C:\>ftype txtfile

  • Slow performance with high resolution external monitor

    Hello,
    I recently bought HP EliteBook 840 G1, i7-4600U, 8gb ram, HD intel graphics 4400, 256GB SSD.
Everything would be fine, but when I connect my 30" Dell monitor with 2560x1600 resolution as an external monitor, the performance of the computer drops significantly to the point where it becomes unconvenient to work with programs that require more resorces.
I understand that it might be due to limitations of the hardware (most probably graphic card is too weak ? ), but still I'd like to ask if there is anything I could do to boost the performance of HP Elitebook with high resolution external monitor.

Hi, you should use renderMode = gpu in your application descriptor xml file, especially for latest android devices. But gpu is not a good idea for old devices, so you may also try renderMode = direct.
Honestly, I don't think those android devices made in china have good performance, especially gpu.

  • My external drive is full, how do I piggyback it with a new external hard drive?

My old external hard drive is full. How do I piggyback it with a new external hard drive? I am thinking of getting. 2tb western digital my studio for Mac.

Your iMac has four USB ports. If the new drive is also USB, just plug it into one of the unused ports.
Your machine also has a Firewire 800 port. If it is unused, you can connect a new external firewire drive to it.
Note - if you plan on using the new drive for booting (backup or emergency), such as by partitioning it and cloning your internal drive to one of the partitions on it, strongly suggest you go with a firewire drive.
In either case, firewire or USB, it's best to get a drive which has its own power supply.
