Firmware file could not be found. Help Me!!

What can I do to my iPod, when I try to restore it there comes a window that says “The iPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found.”?
lg   Windows XP

I managed to get mine fixed. Unfortunately though I went to my local Apple shop. They took it away for about 5 minutes, and it was sorted when it came back. Sorry, not really a solution. Not too sure what they did to it, but at least now i can use my nike+ sports kit.

  • IPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found

Initial problem was no audio and skipping through songs at a rate of about 1 song per second.
Tried the 5 R's and that didn't help.
Installed iTunes 7 and then it wouldn't recognize the nano. Followed Apple's instructions when iPod not recognized, including uninstalling iTunes, uninstalling latent update installers, deleting the iTunes directory, clearing the recycle bin, deleting temp files, etc. Then reinstalled iTunes 7,
Plugged in my nano and Got the message, newer version of iPod software available, update software (version installed was 1.1.1 and newer version available was 1.2)? Clicked ok and that was the start of my troubles. That process failed and suggested that I restore to factory defaults (not exactly what I wanted to do, having to reload my songs, but went along).
Did a restore to factory settings and now get the message
The iPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found.
Anyone got any ideas how to update the firmware? I'm hopeful that a file can be downloaded to do this rather than sending in the nano to have it updated.

After an hour of updating software and a couple of hours of reading the forums looking for the answer, my eyes hurt, it's 2:30am, and I'm frustrated to the point of throwing this in the trash.
My kids have a shuffle and a mini and I've updated software on both with no problems before. If I realized I would have to become a system admin for iPods, I would never have invested.

  • The iPod could not be updated because the firmware file could not be found?

I updated iTunes 7.0 and now I need to update the iPod software ver 1.2 and it won't install. I am stuck like Chuck. I've been working on this all day. Can't seem to find a resolution. I already went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and I got some tips but it didn't work. I un-install iTunes and re-install. Tried the 5 R's and nothing. I get a error message that says "firmware file could not be found" when I try to install the update and/or restore. Is anyone else getting this same error message?

Wow, after about 2 weeks I finally got my iPod to update on my very own PC. I followed the directions according to this document, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304309, and the iPod software was updated to 1.2 version. I had did this one time before and it didn't work. However, just a few minutes ago it finally went through. Yeaaaa!

  • Firmware file could not be found

I updated to iTunes 7.0, and my nano would not update or restore to the current firmware version 1.2. I followed an Apple support article directing me to delete an .ipsw file, and now I'm getting a different error message that the firmware file could not be found. I tried repairng, then deleting and re-installing iTunes in hopes of regenerating that file, but no luck. How can I get a non-corrupt. ipsw file back, so I can use the update or restore functions?

Please delete the following entire folder and try
    again:
    C:\Documents and Setings\yourusername\Application
    Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
You may need to show hidden files in order to see the
Application Data folder. Open up My Computer, and in
the Tools menu, choose "Folder Options..." Then go to
the View tab, and then in the "Advanced settings",
select "Show hidden files and folders."
Thanks a million. This problem was really beginning to wreck my head, but all is well now.

  • "original file could not be found" help needed please

    Hello and help...please
i have a new laptop, so i saved my itunes music library to an external drive to transfer it to the new machine. I uploaded to itunes with the simple 'add folder' option and all my songs appeared in itunes everything is great i thought.
However, every single song i click on to play comes up with
"the song "insert title here" could not be used because the original file could not be found. would you like to locate it?"
I have searched long and hard through the itunes help etc and found nothing.
    can anyone help me? please?
many thanks for taking the time
    phill

for windows version, you have to check the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" in preference pane. then every time you add songs to your library iTunes will copy the original files to your iTunes library folder so you don't have to worry about the original files missing or moved.

  • "iPod could not be upgraded because the firmware file could not be found"

    Can someone please help me?
I've been trying to update my iPod for a few days and I keep getting the same error message. I've even tried re-installing iTunes but that doesn't seem to help.
I really don't know what to do now, I don't even know if there is some software I should download to fix this, if it can be fixed. Does this have anything to do with the fact that I have Windows instead of a Mac?
Please help me out, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks

  • The song could not be used since the original file could not be found.Help!

The hard drive in my PC went bad, so I backed up my data, and imported all of my iTunes music back on. Now, it won't play any of it because it states that the original song couldn't be found!!!- How do I use iTunes so I don't have to run from a my backup disc???
    Thanks

When that message comes up, you have the option to "locate" the file, right ? You probably need to point Itunes to the exact location - usually --- my music/artist/album/song.
how did you import these songs - straight from the cd to itunes ? Or did you copy the files to the hard drive and use --- add folder under file ? If they are only on the cd, not the hard drive, I think that is the problem.
Copy them to my music, remove from itunes the songs that have that error, and copy them back in with FILE ---ADD FOLDER. GOOD LUCK AND LET ME KNOW...Connie

I found some information that needs to be published that iTunes makes no gurantees on recommended or required updates at the iTunes store of the compatablity of the products being sold and the updated iTunes software. Case in point; If you purchase games from the iTunes store and have downloaded the latest version of iTunes 7, your iPod will not play these games, for example video poker and Bejeweled. Go the following link and read it for yourself. There are no gurantees either that you will be able to update or restore your iPod. WARNING!!!!

  • I Tunes "Song could not be used because file could not be found"  HELP!!

I just updated my I Tunes software (54+ Mbyte download), and now I get an Exclamation point on all of the songs in about one half of all the albums copied to my I Tunes library. When an album is affected, all of the songs in the album will not play. The music is still in my I Pod 1.0.3 PC. Short of deleting all of the affected albums, over 250, and copying them again, how do I correct this?
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, The I Tunes software version is 7.5.0.20

How did you do this move?  Unless you know what you are doing you have to move the whole, complete iTunes folder.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • On itunes everytime I try and play a track the warning 'the song could not be played because the original files could not be found' please can anyone help me? Thanks

Hi. I have been having problems with my PC and recently removed a lot of rubbish to clear it somewhat. I dont know if that is relavant however on top of that I have just received my replacement iPad2 which i had a proble with and  thought I would just tidy up my tunes before  sycing.  The problem is that everytime I click to play a track in iTunes on my PC, whilst the track is showing on my itunes, it comes up with a warning 'the song cannot be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to find it'. I have tried clicking 'locate', but all that appears is 'music Library' 4 different dates. Help i am very confused, can any shed any light on this
    Thank you

Sounds like you have somehow moved your itunes music library to a different location to where iTunes thinks they should be. Your music should be in a folder called "iTunes Media>Music". If they are located there, try going into iTunes, right clicking on one of the songs and then "get info". When the box pops up, on the first screen it should give a location line where it thinks the music is located. If it is differen't to where you music is stored, try and match it up to the location line that was in the "get info" box.

  • I have a new computer that downloaded all of my playlist. but i cannot play all songs. i get a error that say "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. would you like to locate it? but it does not help to resolve.

i installed itunes to my new computer and transfered all my playlist from the older computer. the software came with the new computer hp link up. the problem
comes in where i want to play a certain song on a playlist and this error pops up "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found.
would you like to locate it? which is of no help.
is there a solution to this problem?

The file path for these songs IS NOT correct per your iTunes Library file.
See: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=listmias  for an Applescript to locate these files for re-adding.
