Firmware Fix for Power Off Problems?

I'm running out of time to exchange my 5G and I'm not sure if the general consensus is that a firmware update will fix the problem with the failure of the Ipod to power down while watching a video. Pressing and holding the play button will not cut off the Ipod. I have to go all the way out to the main menu and load a song before it will cut off. Anyone know if this will or can be fixed with firmware? Thanks!
TreoBud

That's exactly what it is. While watching a movie, the hard drive is almost continually spinning, especially towards the beginning. Sometimes, you do have to pause it, go to the main menu, and wait a minute or two before it will turn off. You can tell by the vibration in your hand - if it's vibrating, it won't turn off. The second it stops, it'll turn off. It's kind of annoying, but that's the way it works. No firmare update will fix it, it's a hardware thing.

What model of Mac?  I have a MBP running 10.7.3 and do not have that issue.  From the other couple of posts I've seen about it, it seems to be maybe an issue with some iMacs?  Have your tried searching the Lion or iMac forums for similar issues, just to see if anyone has hit on why it is happening?

K7N2 Delta Upgrade Power Off Problems

Thanks for the various suggestions.  I can confirm:
     - 4 pin cpu power plug connected
     - front bus frequency changed to 200MHz, processor now recognised correctly as Athlon xp3200+
     - I have been assured the cpu has not been overclocked
However power off problem persists.  System shuts down after approx 1 minute whether i am in BIOS or start initiaiting xp repair from CD.  As the system shuts down after such a short time the xp repair will not complete. The system wil not power on again until at least 15mins has elapsed then promptly powers off again.
I have fitted the D-bracker diagnostic tool and this shows 'operating system booting', ie four green lights.
I note from the motherboard maunal that a cpu thermal protection system is installed for the Athlon cpu platform.  If the mechanism senses an abnormal temperature rise it automatically shuts down the system.  As noted in my original post the system is powering off with the cpu temp at <40 deg C.  The cpu warning temp in the BIOS PC health check stsus facility is set at 60 deg C so do not think this is the issue?
    System details:
    MSI K7 N2 delta (MS-6570)
    Athlon xp 3200+ (AXDA3200DKV-4E)
    Corsair twinX 1024-3200C2 DDR-DIM 1024 MB

We've reached out to the Hotmail team and they've determined that this is a bug in their code. (It was masked by a timing issue in 3.5 that was fixed in 3.6.) We've worked with them to develop a fix but they may not have deployed it yet.

Likely someone does but Apple has not stated if/wehn.

Then don't use the repair program unless you are actually having an issue.

I’ve been struggling with connection problems for a week. Thankfully, I found a fix. Your mileage may vary, but this may be your answer:
Fix for Wireless Connection Problems on MacBook Pro

Yeah BR, please tell me what your cure is. I have the same setup as you, Vista with the same wireless card you have. Cannot stay connected to the internet. Have spent hours on the phone with tech support and they can't fix it. I hate this f....ing computer, will never buy another one. Please let me know what you did. Once I get it running right I'm selling it and will buy a cheap Dell, never have any problems with them. I have keyboard problems, capital letter problems, connection problems, and download can take 1 to 2 days. Pure BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Still no fix for aspect ratio problems

I was hoping this new version would fix the aspect ratio problems with importing clips other than in the DV codec, but alas, it was not to be.
My problem is that if I import a clip that is 720x486 (non-square pixels, uncompressed), iDVD doesn't interpret it correctly. It places the clip with small black bars (like a little letterbox) at the top and bottom of the screen, then scrunches the image vertically, sprinkling it with stairstep artifacts.
What's frustrating is that versions up to iDVD 4 didn't have this problem and imported clips in any codec beautifully. It's been a known issue for a long time.
Furthermore, Apple's solution is to convert the clip to a self-contained DV movie (hello, disk space!), which is also undesirable because of the quality loss and poor colour compression. After the latest QuickTime upgrade, exporting in DV doesn't work, creating a clip that is half-field and blocky.
Argh! This is a real problem because many of us use iDVD to make screeners for clients, and it looks unprofessional. It's also a very inaccurate and somewhat useless tool when the clips are of clean lines, titles, and smooth, solid graphics, which show the stairstep effect the most.
I'm at my wit's end having exhausted all other suggested solutions (and please don't tell me to use DVD Studio Pro instead). Anyone else come up with a fix or have the same issue?
Previous discussion on this issue here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=204675&tstart=0

Sorry, but the answer is - for professional use, use
    DVD SP
No, it is absolutely not the answer. EVERYONE I know in my circle of professionals uses iDVD for banging-out quick screeners of TV spots, film clips, dailies. In fact, it's one of the main reasons they added OneStep to iDVD. DVD Studio Pro is for authoring commercial-level DVDs, with a learning curve and pricing structure appropriate to that.
I'm not going to spend time learning DVD Studio Pro just to do quick one-offs, for one, and it's overkill anyway. Not only that, but it costs a lot more than iDVD.
The inablity to import a QuickTime clip -- on Apple software, no less -- is not cool, especially since it doesn't seem an excessive thing to ask (and it used to encode just fine). It's a very basic task considering everything else iDVD has been written to do, and crosscoding and re-encoding video is a basic functionality in QuickTime.
I'm not asking iDVD to prove the existence of dark matter in the universe; I'm just asking it to play a QuickTime movie properly. Which is what it's supposed to do.
There was a work-around, supplied by Apple, but it no longer works for me, so that's why I'm asking what worked for others.

  • A fix for the crash problem.

Firefox has been extremely annoying on an XP machine with it's constant crash reports requiring uninstall and reinstall several times till it starts working again. However, periodically repairing Firefox was worth the headache for the benefit of Firefox’s performance. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 was installed hoping it contained the fix for the crash report problem; it didn't. BUT, the new crash report post-mortum file list provides another means to identify a probable cause. The file list was discovered after about the third crash and it was noted that Firefox was attempting to load an internet filter dll file from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM instead of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 which had the correct version. Evidently, the internet filter program update placed the newer version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and did nothing with the older version dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or the registry mapping. A copy of the newer version dll was placed in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and it has been smooth sailing with Firefox ever since. Thanks for adding the post –mortum file list; it provided a means to identify and fix the problem. Firefox is working great and the snail’s pace Internet Explorer 8 has been retired. Thanks again!

  • Possible fix for CPU temp problem found.

Well, one day I decided to take the heatsink off of the nForce3 chip and put some good ol' Arctic Silver thermal compound on there.  I figured it might help with overclocking and whatnot.  When I took it off, look what I found(!):
Imagine my surprise!  Why did they even bother?  Ridiculous.  After removing their mistake, I put some Arctic Silver on there and re-attached the MSI heatsink (someday I'll probably buy a much better one for it).  I've noticed after a couple of days (it takes a little while for the thermal compound to set in) that the CPU temp doesn't appear to fluctuate wildly anymore.  Before I was getting crazy jumps from 45C to 65C, but now it hovers around 45C-47C idle and a little over 50C stressed.  I've also noticed that my overclocks are a bit more stable now too.  For those of you wondering, I'm using BIOS v1.1 at the moment (haven't tried v1.42 yet).
Can anyone confirm these findings?  Maybe something else I did fixed my CPU temp issue (I do fiddle with the BIOS quite a bit).  My guess is that the nForce3 has a part in determining/reporting the CPU temperature.
I hope this actually is a fix for some of you out there, but don't get your hopes up too high until at least one other person can confirm my theory.

It's very easy to remove the MSI plate. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers pinch the fins on the heat sink on one side together (one at the top, one at the bottom). You don't have to do it too much and be careful. This provides enough slack for the plate to drop out with some slight assistance. Well, that's how I did mine.
I then attached a 40mm fan by screwing into the gaps between the two fins. Only on the one side mind (so 2 screws in total). It holds the fan fine, no rattling.
I have some Artic Silver adhesive and I did consider leaving the MSI plate in place and fixing the fan to it. But I wasn't sure how secure it would be. Plus the plate rattles already, imagine how it would behave with a fan stuck to it.
Unfortunately, I forgot to make a note of the NB temperature before I did it. And I can't for the life of me remember what it was. So I can't say, for sure, how it has effected the temperature. I'm sure it has though.
I suppose it's easy enough to disconnect the fan to find out. I might try that later...
Running at 230x10 (stock = 200x10), MBM reports:
    Case = 37C
    CPU = 35C
    Sensor 3 = 49C
The sensors are labelled by MBM, so I am assuming they respond to the correct items, ie the CPU temp is actually the CPU temp.
This is after a hour or so with Azureus running, mIRC open, a couple of IE windows and SETI running at ~97% CPU
When I take the side off to disconnect the fan again, I will take a picture.

    I have a Mack Book late 2009

2gb is the stated bare minimum to run the OS, anything you try to run after that is going to cause exactly what you're complaining about. Your MacBook can use up to 8gb and I believe you'd be wise to upgrade.

  • Power off problems ----

I was thinking about buying a MB - but --- It's always my belief to not buy anything as soon as it comes out - wait 6 months to 1 year....and read read about the product - I like consumer reports where they rate products.
What are your opinions --- since the MB was released in May - maybe wait until year end ? maybe Apple will have the issue resolved with the power off ? I know it's not all but don't want the possibility as a known possible issue..
    Bob

While you plan might sound good, by waiting 12 months there'll be another revision of the MacBook for you to evaluate over the next 12 months. Normally with Apple computers a good time to buy is around 3-5 month after release of a first revision and around 3 months after the release of subsequent revisions.
There will always be issues with ALL computers of one type or other so basically you will need to take a "risk" of one type or other. As of today I feel that the current MacBook is as good as any other release.

  • Has there been a fix for the speakerphone problem?

I recently had to return two N97 handsets due to the fact that the speakerphone on the handsets worked poorly. Contacts I called using speakerphone repeatedly told me I was "breaking up." Speakerphone volume was also mediocre, compared to other N series handsets I have owned. When the problem occured with the second handset I settled on returning the phone and waiting until I knew more about the problem and whether Nokia was aware of it and preparing a fix for it. I no longer own the phone and have gone back to using my trusty and very excellent, but old N958GB.
Can someone/anyone tell me whether this particular bug on this handset has even been identified by Nokia and whether it has been fixed? Is the problem with the speakerphone a software issue or is this a hardware/mic/factory issue? If this is an isolated problem and it was simply a "bad batch" I would be prepared to buy the phone agan, but based on my reading on this forum, this is not a completely isolated problem.
Basically, I'm waiting to find out whether (a) Nokia knows this is a problem, (b) it can be fixed via software upgrade, or (c) this is a design flaw with the handset that's not fixable remotely. Any help users can give would really be greatly appreciated, as I would love to purchase the phone and update my handset at long last.

    Hi
Does anyone know anything about this? At least, can anyone who had an update that has improved the phone say whether the update solved that problem, if they were experiencing the problem with the loudpspeaker before?

  • Has a fix for the audiobook problem on ipod classic been released yet?

My fiance just gave me an ipod classic 160g for valentines day. I turned it on and uploaded my large collection of audiobooks just to find out that it throws them all into a pool of chapters. Is this something I am doing wrong or has apple still not published a fix for this? A bit of searching shows that several users have faced the same frustration.

Check some of the audiobooks in your iTunes Library. Use File/Get Info/Info. Are the basic fields completed, such as the Track Number and total tracks, the Disc Number and total number of discs. Without that information, the iPod will have difficulty in sorting them into the correct order.
