Firmware for Pioneer DVRKD08A DVD writter - Satellite P300-133

Got my new Satellite P300-133.
It has a Pioneer DVRKD08A DVD writer.
While checking for a firmware update I found that the recommendation is for a different brand - TS-L632H.
This firmware is obviously to Pioneer - so where can be found the firmware applicable to Pioneer?

Indeed it seems strange, but in a relative short period of time I already experienced two instances which made me look for such update:
- A burned DVD-R got an additional session - uncontrolled and unrequired, just by using it a few times - REALLY it's a first in my 10 years of using CD / DVD writers.
Shortly after, the DVD-R become unusable and I had to burn another one.
- While using the Toshiba (alias Pioneer) burner, and compared to an identical session using an external SONY DVD writer, at same speed,
on same DVD RW, took 20% less time on the SONY.
If there is no such firmware update then I will have to find a careful way to handle the DVD writer till I will reach a conclusion about its serviceability.

Failure with one type of optical media and not another -- even from the same manufacturer -- is not unusual. DVDs and DVD-RWs use different dies that respond to different lasers in the optical drive. There are numerous other possibllities here.
It would not be unusual if the write laser for DVDs has burned out but the DVD-RW is still working becasue they use entirely separate lasers of a different intensity and frequency.
It may be the dyes used in a particular lot of Verbatim DVDs are not quite compatible with the DVD lasers in your drive (that is independent of DVD-RWs because they use different lasers.
Because of manufacturing variations your drive may burn other brands of DVD blanks flwlessly, but just won't work with Verbatim DVD blanks.
The DVD Read/Write lasers in your drive may simply be dirty.
Changing/updating the firmware in an optical can be done, but there is a definite risk of converting the optical drive into something useful only as a paper weight.
Try another brand of DVD blank or even a different model Verbatim. (I have seen cases where discs from a different manufacturing lot from the same vendor worked when another failed.)
If you are using DVD-R blanks try a DVD+R (there again different lasers are involved.
It is tricky to clean slot loading optical drives, but sometimes simply blowing them out with short bursts of canned air will work. Be sure the computer has been powered down for a good while and the optical drive is completely cooled. Then use only short bursts of air to prevent super cooled liquid air from getting into the drive. That can easily crack the lenses if you aren't careful.
If your Mac mini is less than a year old or you have Apple Care, get an appointment and take it to the Genius Desk of the nearest Apple store. If you aren't covered under warranty a bus powered external optical drive very probably costs less than the labor charge to diagnose the issue with your drive.

  • Any way to upgrade firmware for Pioneer DVR-K06 DVD-RW drive?

Finally got around to replacing the factory SuperDrive in my Mac mini the other day. The original drive NEVER worked right out of the box -- would read some CDs but not others, always barfed on burning DL DVDs, etc. My last experience with getting a mini fixed under warranty (mobo on my 1.42 G4 took a dump after a few months) involved two three-hour round trips to the nearest (and I use the term loosely) Apple Store for service. It was cheaper for me to just replace the optical drive in this one than to do that drive again.
Anyway, enough complaining. The replacement drive has firmware v1.01 and I would like to get it up to the latest available firmware to take advantage of any compatibility, stability, etc. fixes since v1.01. Problem is that I can't find any software that supports flashing the K06 drive. Hope someone here has a solution. I don't have a Windows machine with appropriate connectors to hook the drive up to or I'd go that route ... plus I'd much rather do it on a Mac just on principle ... plus I don't want to have to disassemble the mini again.
    Any solution?

    Hello Sang,
I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun.
I did review the Full Components List for the Ultra 40. The only DVD drives listed (Part No. 370-7970) are Panasonic UJ-485 and Teac DV-W28SLA-093. Both aren't capable of reading or writing DVD-RAM.
In some countries Panasonic uses Matshita as brand name.
I did a search on SunSolve with the keywords DVD firmware.
Sun supplies only firmware updates for two DVD readers: Toshiba DVD 1401 (fixes: unable to boot from Solaris 8 DVD) and Toshiba SD-C2732 (fixes: returns incorrect data).
I was unable to update the firmware of the SD-C2732 (Sun part) with the Sun patch. The drive was attached to an Ultra 10 (with an adapter). I ended attaching the drive to a PC and using a DOS boot floppy with the Toshiba flash program and the Sun firmware.
Regarding you problems with the drive: Have you tried another brand of media. The Ultra 40 is under warranty (GA date was February 14, 2006).
Use the contact information from your other thread.
If you search the net for firmware you can locate sites that offers region-code-free firmware for several drives. Usually they provide a flash program (requires creation of a DOS boot floppy). Using these programs/firmware voids your warranty. Maybe you can not revert the firmware upgrade.
These slimline drives have no jumpers, the installed firmware (of the drive) determines if the drive is master, slave, uses cable-select (CS) or reversed CS.

  • Some question about Toshiab reocvery disk for Satellite P300-133

    Hello guys ,
I got some questions about unpleasant recovery surprises :
*1)* I just made recovery DVD using Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator and it initially asked for 2 DVDs - but when the first one was done it didn`t require a second blanc DVD . Is it possible all system files of Windows Vista to be written on 1 DVD ?
*2)* Could I reinstall Windows Vista using the HDD Recovery option ( by pressing F8 ) without using recovery DVD ?
*3)* Which HDD partitions`ll be formatted ( just system C: or both C: and E: ) using HDD recovery ?
*4)* What is recovery DVD - Image of the hard drives or Vista installation files ?
Its pretty bad idea not to include OS on DVD when I have paid for it.
Thanks for all the problems to Toshiba :(

    1. I think the recovery disk creator means 2 CDs. I have a Portege M700 with Windows Vista and one DVD too. I recovered it and after this I have a clean Vista installation with all drivers and tools from Toshiba. Nothing is missing.
    2. Yes, you can reinstall Vista using the HDD Recovery option when you press F8 at startup. You dont need the recovery DVD but you should create one when your HDD get some errors or something else. If you need a new Recovery DVD, you have pay for one.
    3. The complete HDD and partitions will be formatted, so backup your data first on a DVD, external HDD, USB stick or something else.
After the reinstallation you have the factory settings.
    4. The recovery DVD is an image of the HDD about the factory settings. If you make a recovery, there are all drivers and tools already installed. Of course on the disk are the installations files of Vista, but you can only use this DVD on your Satellite P300. The disk can not be used on an other Satellite or on a PC.
When you have more questions, have a look in the user manual. There are a many in formations about the recovery. Its in chapter 3.

Think you will have to check BIOS settings. Look for an option called Illumination LED and enable it.
If it is already, then you will have to install all needed drivers and tools from Toshiba download page, but this feature should be enabled by default. Have you reinstalled your system or downgraded to XP?

    Hi to all
I bought new laptop satelliate P300-133 two weeks ago, since 3 days ago the laptop always restart in the minight about 3 AM,
does anyone have same problem like this?
I do not think the problem from the machine, becasue the problem just came 3 days ago, maybe there has some thing worng about system set or someting
pls give me some point if you can help me ,thanks

    Hi
I doubt there is something wrong with your notebook.
Is the notebook connected to LAN?
If yes then the enabled Wake up on LAN option could be the reason why the notebook powers on itself
    So access the BIOS and disable this option;
Furthermore I recommend disabling this in device manger -> LAN properties -> Advanced tab.
Last but not least you should check if some Scheduled Tasks are not set which could power up the notebook as well

  • Flash Firmware for Pioneer DVR-K06

Anyone know a way to flash the DVR-K06 drive with the newest firmware withing OS X. Don't really wanna install Windows just to flash the dvd drive.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The only firmware update for iMac G4 is available here. OEMs are never as good as supporting Macs for upgrades like the firmware you've found.
Apply the firmware if it applied to your version of the iMac G4.
Try burning disks at 1x speed.
Using a drive cleaning disk to clean the drive lens.
Different brands of media (and then stick with that type - I realise that when Tesco or whatever have an offer on media it's tempting to go with them (although that's what I do)).

  • XP wont install - ntdlr.dll missing on Satellite P300-133

We bought the Satelitte P300 with Vista preinstalled. It worked fine except of some major programs for equipment configuration in our company.
Therefore we tried to install XP Professional on the primary partition which was formated before that. At the blue screen where XP installs its files (after creating partition and formating it) on the end at 99% it says "ntdlr.dll missing".
We first tought it has something to do with SATA compatibility mode which we configured in BIOS because of the missing AHCI driver on XP CD. Then we made a backup CD with nLite with installed SATA drivers and run on AHCI mode.
The same problem at the same point. I dind't try with another copy of XP but I know that this one (one month old scratch free original CD) works fine because I installed it on another laptop before.
The only thing thats od odd that the latters of the partitions are mixed up. The partition where Vista was before is now D, this is also the drive where we tried to install XP, C is no the drive with all backups from the previous system and F it seams to be the installation files for Vista.
Please any suggestions, its very urgent
We need this computer next week.
    Greetings Peter

I solved the problem. Had to delete all three existing partitions,. But i had an full partition of backups from Vista, so I got na external drive first
for backup. I don't know why but after new partition was created everything worked fine. Thanks anyway. Peter

  • Satellite A210 - can't write DVD-DL - need firmware for LG GSA-T20N

I have problem with my DVD drive... I can't write DVD-DL discs (DVD+DL too).
I'm looking for a firmware for my drive.
On Toshiba Support I can find only firmware for Pioneer and Toshiba (TSSTCorp) drives.
Lg says that Toshiba should have newest firmware.

    Hi
I checked the Toshiba European driver page and found tree different firmware updates for TS-L632H, TS-L632 and TS-L632P but there is no update for LG GSA-T20N.
If you are not able to burn the data on some double layer disks then you should try different brands.
As far as I know your user manual should contains some details and information about the supported and compatible disks.
    Check it!

  • Satellite A60: firmware for DVD burner TEAC DV-W24e needed !

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with DVD burner TEAC DV-W24e. It has been some time that it is no more able to write any DVD or CD. Today, I checked the firmware and saw that the version is not the good one at all. Could anybody tell me where I could get the last firmware for that DVD burner or could anyone send it to me by e-mail ! It would be great !!!!
Thanks to all and season's greetings.
    Ben

I found a firmware update on the Toshiba page in the Satellite A60 area but its only for these drives:
    - SD-R2212
    - SD-R1312
    - SD-R1512
    - SD-R2412
    - SD-R6112
    - SD-R2512
I think you have to Google or to ask the drive manufacture for the right firmware

  • How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

    Hi everybody,
first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?
    Can you help me please.
PS : Sorry for my english

    Hi mate
User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
    Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

    Hey,
I agree what Horwath wrote. I had the same problem few days ago and so I removed the upper and lower filters in registry and restarted the computer. After this I was able again to use my CD/DVD drive :)
I hope it works for you too and any feedback would be nice!

  • Satellite P300-19F DVD does not work

I have a Satellite P300-19F with Win Vista 32 bits Home Premium SP2.
I am unable to read any DVD. It does not show a corresponding drive letter.
If I go to the device manager under Control Panel - System, it recognizes a Pioneer DVD-RW DVRTD08A, but has a warning sign on it. It says that configuration is damaged.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled without any success.
I downloaded the drivers from Toshiba and did not solved either.
What can I do to solve the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi resteves_1,
I had a similar problem with my CD/DVD drive. There was an error code in device manager on ODD so I followed the instructions on the Microsoft Knowledge Base to remove the upper- and lowerfilters in registry and after that the problem was solved! :)
I would recommend this too. After this your drive should work again properly!!!
