Firmware for second-generation nano

Does anyone know what GUI and features is going to trickle down from the new 4G nano to previous nanos (mine is a 2G)?
I am mainly curious whether Genius and a new Nike+ GUI will be in the next nano 2G firmware

None, same as usual.

  • Is there a belt clip for the Second Generation Nano?

I bought a 2GB Nano yesterday. I also purchased Apple's combined Lanyard/Headphones. The headphones won't stay in. ugggh. Anyone else having this problem?
Does anyone know of a belt clip for the new Nano?

I purchased the correct Lanyard Headphones, made specifically for the Second Generation Nano. Is anyone else having problems with these headphones not staying in?
Since the new Nano does not come with a beltclip and the only option I've found (thus far which doesn't work for me) is the new Lanyard/Headphones, what are the other options for wearing the new Nano?

  • I have a second generation nano. I have several podcasts in my library that will not sync to the nano.  These podcasts all have a half cirlce icon to the left of the name in my itunes library.  Whats up?

I have a second generation Nano.  I have several podcasts in my itunes library that will not sync to the device.  These podcasts all have a half circle icon that appears to the left of the title.  Whats up?

Well I could do that but that kinda defeats the purpose of paying $600 bucks for this piece of **** that I'm supposed to be able to dump 32 gigs (well u know what I mean) of music on and manage automatically the through this supposedly wonderful piece of software that's supposed to do most of that for you. Okay I get that computers are only as smart as the people using them... Which apparently is not that smart in this case... But ya thanks for the advice that my two year old daughter could have given me. Anyone else?

  • Second generation nano thinks it's syncing, but never makes it into Itunes

After my own 2nd generation nano died, my mom gave me her (never used) one.
(Just a caveat, I am a new Mac user)
When connecting it to my iMac (Mac OSX Version 10.7.5), it shows the usual "do not disconnect" message that it would when syncing-- except it never appears under "devices" in Itunes (11.3) and will not sync. It does, however, show up on the desktop. I believe this ipod has previously been connected to a Windows PC, although my mother never actually used it.
Any thoughts on what to do? Because the ipod is doing the whole "sync screen" thing despite not doing anything, I'm unable to use it to do anything while connected to the computer, rendering the suggestions in other similar posts useless. And I can't reset it because I can't access the device in any capacity through Itunes.
It's definitely connected to the computer, since it appears on my desktop and charges, but Itunes refuses to recognize it.
    Any suggestions would be wonderful!
    Thanks!

    I personally think it’s more basic than that.  When you do it manually it works.  Look at this;
    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/archive/index.php/t-222659.html
    Then
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/download.php?sc=embedart
If there is a loose association (pointers?) it may be randomly lost?  But if you embead it manualy, it works.  What I don’t understand is why Apple is not supporting such basic functionality.

  • My new 2gig second generation nano makes me furious

It plays some songs only a few seconds, though in itunes it plays the full songs. I have tried deleting them from my library reimporting them and putting them on my ipod but it does the same thing. It has also frozen up on me a couple times. Is anyone else getting this same issue, and if so how did you resolve it, if you have?

I see that you have tried reimporting the music but have you tried going through the 5 R's?

  • My second generation nano lost all content after I updated to the latest version of iTunes. How do I fix this?

I know that I have an old model, but I was happy with it. I have tried connecting to different computers in my house that have not updated iTunes and have not had any luch restoring to factory settings.  I restored the ipod by holding menu and select buttons, but that didn't work either.  I tried installing older versions and synching, but no good. I am out of ideas. My kids just tell me to suck it up and buy a new ipod.

If might be helpful if you actually told us what the problem is.

  • Need to go back to using an older version for 2nd Generation Nano

    Hello to all,
I was just told I needed to try and use a older version of itunes to be able to use my ipod in my vehicle (Kenwood DNX-7140). I've tried looking around and have not been able to find the "how to". Can anyone help me? Thank you and I look forward to your reply.

    Sure.<br><br>
    * Right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently reappear below the search bar.<br><br>
    * Repeat the same steps, but click the top one called "Menu bar". This will reinstate the text links at the top.<br><br>
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.<br><br>

  • IPod Nano Second Generation and Factory BMW iPod Adapter

I am considering either an iPod Nano Second Generation or an iPod Mini to put in my 2008 BMW, since I have the BMW iPod adapter.
I have noticed that the iPod Minis are a lot cheaper than the second generation Nanos.
Is the Second Generation Nano a good fit for the BMW or should I go with a Mini? Thanks!

I take it you are looking to buy a used iPod, since neither of these models is currently available as a new item.
I'd go with the Nano as it does not have a physical hard drive like the Mini has.

  • Do I have a 1st or 2nd Generation Nano?

help - can anyone tell me how i know if my new nano 2gb black with a silver back is 1st or 2nd generation? I bought it direct from apple as reconditioned a couple of weeks ago

You have a First Generation Nano.
The Second Generation nano's color covers the entire unit, front and back (whatever that color may be).
For the first generation nanos, there is a silver backing, while the main color is on the front of the iPod.
Also, a second way of telling is that you can only get black Nanos in 8 GB size, now. Whereas, the first generation black nanos used to (you can get them refurbished now, of course) come in 1 GB, 2 GB, or 4 GB.
That's not the case now with the current Nanos, so there's your second reason why you have a First Generation.

  • 1st generation nano problems....help greatly appreciated!!

i have a first generation nano, and i plugged it in to my computer last night and it said something about needed to scan for problems...then it popped up my F drive saying that i needed to insert something into the F drive....
i have tried three different cords to hook up my iPod to my pc...I tried another usb port...so i am assuming that it is either my computer, the iTunes or the iPod...regardless of what it is, my iPod wont update. and when it says it is updating it's not.
i am running a much older version of iTunes, the one that came on the cd with the first gens...i think 7.2..cant remember, and i have a Vista OS. could THAT be what causing issues? i usedto have it hooked up to an XP and it worked fine, then when I changed it over to the Vista pc, everything went to pot.
Does ANYONE know what to do?? I would appreciate any help, i really dont want to have to buy a new iPod if at all possible...

This forum is for 3rd generation nano problems, not 1st.

  • 1st generation nano replacement program

ok i got the email for 1st generation nano replacement program, submitted my nano serial number and they said within 2 days i would get a box, well its been over a week now and still no box, has anyone had the same problem, or did i miss a step somewhere?

I thought that it said two days too, but if you re read the e mail it says that it will be returned to Appple in 2 business days. The return label is underneath of the original, There are perforations the top that you need to tear off to get to the label underneath and keep the top one as a reciept.
I wasn't sure about the plastic bag either, so I just put the nano in it then in the foam hole in the box.
The clear sticky is about 6 pieces of tape to seal the box with. Be careful pulling it apart you can think you have just one piece but it is really like three pieces. I sent mine off today and have been wondering what they are replacing them with.

  • How can i tell the difference between a 1st and 2nd generation Nano?

A first generation Nano will be either black or white and is plastic on the front and metal on the back. A second generation Nano comes in a variety of colours and the body is made entirely from aluminium: Identifying different iPod models
