Firmware not updating for nokia 5800

I got my phone from chicago flagship, they said it's a Euro VErsion of nokia 5800
when I go to device updates, it says no update available, although version 11 is out.
when I do it from the PC suite, it says that your network provider has not approved the
update, no update availabe.
I'm using T-mobile US.
Anyone have a clue on how I can update my phone, I get the usual 5800 firmware 10 bugs, like
unable to edit and add birthdays on contacts, alarms not working.
I really like to have it updated.

that is strange because euro codes usually are one of the first ones to get the firmware updates. you can serach your product code via google and find out if it is indeed a euro version of the code. this is an unlocked/unbranded unit right? you should have no issues in regards to provider in that case. does nokia flagship chicago have a service departmetn as well? you can always take it to them and request that they do the update for you. still this should not be the case if you have an unlocked/unbranded euro version of the device.

    I am a huge fan of Nokia and their Symbian platform.. But I am getting more and more disappointed with them.
    I cannot use another OS. Cannot use new softwares. Very slow and low hardware and performances..
    I was hoping to get a Symbian ^ 3 update for my 5800 but that is not possible... So I have decided to see the last firmware update for 5800 and see if its any good. Otherwise I'll simply throw it away and start using HD2.

    There are rumors about a v60 coming out, but I quite doubt it... and even if it comes it will most likely be a failure...
    Nokia has done so much stuff wrong latelly (even Symbian^3 devices are filled with bugs and issues) and doesn't commit into fix them before launching something new based on the old ones.
    This angers the users and most likely drivens them away... Nokia was once one of the biggest (if not the biggest) name in smartphone industry... now ... iPhone, Android based and even the dieing Blackberry are way ahead of them ... only 'dumbphones' on Nokia worth some consideration...
    If you think 5800 has issues then don't look at it's more expensive brother ... the N97... so much for a top of the line phone...
    Nokia has the firmware so fragmented that makes Android look like an homogeneous mass of software...
    Because how some companies work, I start a personal blacklist of devices/brands that will never buy.... Apple and Sony are on the top of that list, Nokia will soon join them :[
    Well... true to be said, I have 2 old 'dumbphones' - one of them has a 3.2MP camera with OPTICAL zoom, while it has 6~7 years more than 5800 it beats it in screen quality, camera quality and build quality, it also cost half the value of it - that I would most likely return to once 5800 dies... because it will die...
    5800xm on a blender ... will happen sooner than expected.... v51 is a failure as an update .... v52 just postponed its fate....

    Please make an update for Nokia 5800. We already used it for years. Upgrade it to symbian ^3 if you could, so we (your loyal customer and user) can feel how is it to use the symbian ^3 like the later phone that came out after nokia 5800. Since the Nokia 5800 is the first phone that have the touch screen feature and it was came out to take down the iPhone in the past, so please give us the feedback for supporting you.

    The 5800 will never get symbian^3 as it lacks the necessary hardware to run it. It's processor is too slow and it does not have a GPU.
    It may get further updates to improve it's symbian^1 operating system, but with it now being an old model it may get nothing. All you can do is wait and see what happens.
    If you are unhappy about this you can raise a complaint directly with nokia by using the "contact us" link.

    I updated my nokia 5800 xpressmusic yesterday to version 40.0.005 and everything is ok, apart from I can't access my dialer or my contacts from my home screen, so how is it possible to make any calls? Can anyone help me please?

    jjegen seems to have differently than I. From what I see, tapping on the dialler and contacts on homescreen does nothing?
    Your phone settings have had trouble. I would suggest restoring factory settings.
    Go to MainMenu>green button>you will see the dialler. Type in *#7780# and enter your security code.
    If that does not work:
    Soft reset is *#7370# - this deletes all data on phone memory so make sure you have a backup.
    OR
    A hard reset (x6, 5800 and 5230 only) is done by the following (warning, this deletes all data on your phone):
    1.) Turn off the phone and remove battery for 5min
    2.) Reinsert battery
    3.) Press and hold the green, red and camera buttons. DO NOT LET GO.
    4.) While holding the three buttons, press the power key to boot the phone up.
    5.) Keep on pressing until you see the country selection screen.
    A correctly done hard reset would show you that everything on the phone (contacts, messages, calendar entries, etc) would be deleted. So it is advisable to back them up. Upon restoration, do not restore settings or files if possible.

  • Could not updated firmware 40.0 for nokia 5800

    Hi,
    I tried updating the firmware of my nokia5800 using ovi suite.
    1. Ovi suite showed an option New firmware available 40.0 , Install
    2. On click , it downloaded some 122 mb file
    3. Install process started, it said it ll take about 15 minutes to complete
    4. My phone restarted after few minutes
    5. In OVI suite, Your firmware is successfully updated message displayed
    But when I check my mobile, it is still in 30.0 version, I checked my product code also, firmware is available for this product code.
    I am using Windows 7 and latest version ovi (2.1.1.1)
    Please help

    I would suggest using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) instead of the Ovi Suite. Ovi, I feel is not matured enough, and so is Win 7.
    My suggestion:
    - Use a PC running WinXP (I strongly advise against using Vista) and insatll the latest PC Suite and NSU.
    - Back up your data
    - Soft reset your phone (Type *#7370#, enter lock code when prompted)
    - Make sure you have a full battery and a good internet connection on the PC, then run NSU with the phone connected in PC Suite mode using the USB Cable.
    - Wait patiently until it finishes.
    - Once completed, restore the backup.

  • Device Software update for nokia 5800 product code...

    I have nokia 5800- XpressMusic. product code 0575590.
    I read that there was a new firmware available for 5800 which is 50.0.005
    I tried to get the firmware over the air and was successful in doing so.
    I have been checking the nokia support website for software updates for the same product code and see it change from 40 to 30 and back to 40 every few days..
    wats up with that??

    I have version 40 on my phone but in a lot of places it says that v 50 is out.....But when I checked on ovi suite and the other.....It says no update is available

  • Software Update for Nokia 5800 ---Not Available In...

    On the Nokia-Asia Website it clearly states the V31 Firmware update is available, but when i try to Update my phone, it does not pick up that the update is available( i have tried both Nokia Software Updater & Using the phone's updater)
    Is this just for Australia,or is there a problem with my phone?
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    2. if your device  has different usb modes please ensure that  you select pc  suite  or  default  mode

    or optimum connectivity ,your usb cable should be connected directly to the pc
    Is your phone connected by direct cable pc to phone .

  • Phone not working after firmware update for nokia ...

    I tried updating my nokia 5800 today when the new firmware was released. i have already updated my other phone including another 5800. But when I updated the firmware of another 5800 (my 5800 through nokia software updater from pc/laptop), after the nokia updater application said that the update was successful, my phone showed the nokia logo with the new firmware version. It's supposed to reboot automatically and continue as normal but after waiting for like 15 minutes, my phone's still not turning on and still showed on the screen that the phone was not connected. That's when I unplugged it off from the USB cable and tried to turn it on, but it will just vibrate for a few seconds and then nothing! It won't turn on or work! I've tried to search on how to fix this problem but to no avail.. please help me.. is my phone going to work again?

    hello. Nokia 523x and nokia c6 are getting firmware updates. it got some interesting new updates such as qt 4.7.3 and symbian anna browser. so it will also be possible for Nokia 5800 to receive a firmware update ?

    5800 had received many updates, even more than the N97/N97mini. It is less likely that 5800 or any other S60v5 handeset would get an update with new features. Not sure 5230 and C6 got updated to Anna web browser, because Anna update is only for S3 devices and when devices like N8 and E7 are waiting for Anna it is nearly impossible that older devices has got that update. You can directly install Qt to your phone anyway by downloading files from http://developer.nokia.com.

    It's not about old or not, it's about that productcode which is under your battery. Take a look here, and follow the instructions. If there is not an update available, you just have to wait.

    Seems that the firmware V 20.0.012 for Nokia 5800 was released ages ago but its still not availabe for Indian users.

    I am currently using a Nokia 5800 with firmware version v50.0.001.
    I have installed the latest Nokia Suite (3.7.22) and it reports that there are no firmware updates available. I tried to find the updates using the Menu->Applications -> S.W Updates as well. This doesn't report any firmware updates either. 
    But the Nokia India page for 5800 states that the latest version is 60.

    Availability of update depends on Product Code / Region. Also, for Network locked devices, update is possible only after an approval from the Operator. Seems oone of these is preventing you from getting the update. As both FOTA nad Nokia Suite is not providing you with the update there is nothing that you can do except asking your local Nokia Care whether they can help you ...
