'FIRMWARE PROBLEM' on Zen Touch that i can't seem to solve

Last night i was turning off my MP3 player when it started making this clicking noise over and over again and then eventually shut down after about 5 minutes. Then, later, i tried to turn it on and it started up, then made this clicking noise again and then said there was a 'FIRMWARE PROBLEM'. I came on to the Creative.com website for help, i tried to reset the machine, that didnt work, i tried to download a new updated firmware, but it wouldnt install because the computer, unlike usual, couldnt identify that there was anything plugged into my computer. Is there anything else I can do? It's not a machine that get's thrown around or anything like that, it's taken good care of, so I don't know what I have done wrong. Thank you very much,Robert Reid x

Well given the clicking noise you talk about, I think it's safe to guess that the hard dri've inside your Zen is having a serious problem. With PC hard dri'ves the only advice in these cases is a low level format, but it hardly gives any result and it's not possible with the Zen anyway.... wait for an answer from Creative customer support, but I'm afraid you will have to return your player.

  • *URGENT* Firmware Problem On Zen To

    Hey,
Ok so i was updating my firmware using the latest
and legit download from your website when an
    error occured.
Now whenever i boot up my ZEN TOUCH i
get "Firmware Problem" and it goes into recovery
mode. I have tried updating on 2 different
computers and i have done it with the AC plug in
but still nothing works. The error i get when i
try to update is that (even though the computer
recognises the zen) the update firmware
application does not recognise and asks for it to
be plugged in (also nomad explorer does not
    recognise it)
    Please can you guys help?

Interesting... I burnt all the necessary software to a CD (which included: JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.exe [Creative Zen Touch Drivers], ZenTouch_PCFW_L4__0_03.exe [Old Firmware update], and ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2__0.exe [Latest Firmware update]). loaded the CD onto a laptop. Installed JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.exe which are the drivers for my creative zen touch. With my Creative Zen Touch plugged in via USB port. it asked me to reconnect the device. I reconnected it. I attempted to install Firmware: ZenTouch_PCFW_L4__0_03 it gave me the same error before. Then I double clicked firmware ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2__0.exe and it recognized my Creative zen and is currently updating the firmware. Suggestion:if you have all these files on the computers try uninstalling and then reinstalling. Might be a trial by error thing. Hopefully this hel

  • Some WMA/DRM files won't sync after firmware upgrade on Zen Touch

I downloaded an eaudio book from my library, which grants a 2 day license. Prior to upgrading the firmware (to the latest available) on my Zen Touch, I was able to upload this book and play it while walking, etc.
At the same time, I was able to upload several other books I had downloaded and licensed. All are WMA/DRM.
After upgrading the firmware, I was able to resync some of the books I'd downloaded to my Zen Touch. Several, however, yield error messages--no matter how I try to upload them (WMP, Creative MediaSource, Zen Touch Media Explorer). All refuse to let me upload.
These books previously uploaded/played just fine. Note: they still play fine using WMP and Creative's software. But, it's a bit difficult to lug my desktop around when walking/running through the woods.
Any idea what the problem might be? All MediaSource says is:
    <IMG src="http://herb.thetysons.org/images/CMC-error.jpg">
WMP0 tells me that "an unknown error" has occurred. Neither event is significant to make it to the system's application event log.
Any ideas on why these files--which could be tranferred before--can't be transferred now? The licenses are still valid, and the file format is identical to those that transferred without incident.

OK, my update. After reading the recent responses (thanks!), I performed the following experiments.
    1) Reverted to the original v2.0 via factory restore, relinked to the Mac. ATV immediately copied over my entire library (one movie, lots of music) from the Mac, because I have iTunes checked marked for Automatic Sync ("iTunes automatically chooses the audio and video to sync, etc.").
*I consider this to be normal and expected behaviour.*
    2) Downloaded and installed the 2.1 update (again...). After reboot the ATV was still on my network and still linked to my Mac. However there was no longer any media content on the ATV (as before).
*I do not consider this to be normal, expected behaviour. Nor, for that matter, is wiping user content acceptable.*
    3) Cancelled and relinked ATV to Mac. As soon as the linking code was entered, automatic sync started. Only the one movie was copied, but no music.
*I do not consider this to be normal, expected behaviour.*
    4) When that sync was completed I went and checked all the songs in one album in iTunes as a quick test, then sync'd again. That song was promptly copied to the ATV.
    Progress!
    5) Checked all songs, initiated a new sync and they're being copied as I write.
    Success!
So v2.1 requires music to be manually selected in iTunes in order for automatic sync to work. Anyone not spot a contradiction in terms? Furthermore that was certainly not the case in software versions prior to 2.1, nor was this change communicated in any way I'm aware of to the user.
My conclusion is that this is either a bug, or else sheer thoughtlessness on Apple's part.
But my sincere thanks to those who've helped me to restore proper function to the ATV (well, fingers crossed), a device that I've become very fond of.

  • Problems w/ Zen Touch. Please He

Okay everybody, i've got a strange problem that is beyond me.
I recently plugged my 40GB Zen Touch into a friend's computer, and for some reason nearly half of the artist folders appeared empty when browsed them through windows explorer. Now when I try to browse the device's music folders on my own computer, I encounter the same problem. I have firmware 2..0_0.00.0 installed on the Zen, and it doesn't seem to make a difference if I look at the device through Windows XP or Vista explorer, nor do the files appear when I open the device with Creative Media Organizer 5. The funny thing is that I know the files are still there, cause there's the same amount of memory left and I can play them on the device just fine. The file folders are also still there, but according to my computer there's nothing inside many of them. I couldn't recognize any pattern to why some files appear and others don't, as I have a mix of ripped Cd's, internet downloads, and music i've taken from other computers. Some files are WMA and others are MP3. I don't know if this makes any difference, but my friend's computer had Itunes on it - is it possible that it some how infiltrated my device and made the tracks w/out copy right privlidges unreadable Or did the file directory somehow get corrupted I'm truly at a loss.
I just got a new computer and would like to backup my music collection on it, but nearly half of it seems to have disappeared into the ether!
    Please help me!

  • Problems with Zen Touch and MediaSou

I have a Zen Touch and I'm trying to figure out how to easily tranfer songs onto a PC. I've downloaded the latest version of MediaSource and drivers, but it doesn't recognize that the player is plugged in. However, the PC and the Nomad Explorer do recognize it. Unforunately, it doesn't seem that you can easily use Explorer to tranfer files onto the PC in an organized manner, nor can you use it to play tracks that are on the Zen. My Zen Touch is Version .0.03, and i'm reluctant to upgrade the firmware because I can't back up the tracks on my PC! Is there anyway around this? Thanks!

    mattisb,
Did you download the Jukebox plugin (Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource) that's meant for the Zen Touch player? If not, go to the website and download it.

  • Problems with Zen Touch - Need He

I bought a Zen Touch about 5 months ago and so far its been great! (apart from the occasional freezing) but all in all I'm quite happy with my choice of MP3 player. Until recently. A problem arose when i deleted all my old music off of the Zen and burned in some new music - It has an error message saying "Add Music from Library" - And i press menu button and it freezes and i can't switch it off.... The oddest thing is that my pc shows that all the tunes are on it but for some reason i can't acess it. I tried everything; i reburned software, reburned the tunes back on, deleted them, waited for the Zen to run out of battery... I'm really missing my Zen at the mo and any help would be GREATLY appreciated....thanx

  • Having connection problems with Zen Touch...Please h

I haven't used my Touch in a while but I went to install everything last night on my XP machine and when I load MediaSource it says there is no player attached. Windows recognizes the player is there and I can see all the songs in Explorer and I even did the firmware upgrade and that worked. I also tried re-installing MediaSource and it knows the player is there during installation (cuz otherwise it would give an error) but once it is installed, the program can't find it.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I'm trying to use MediaSource Organizer, as that seems to be the best way to recover the data without installing a new program/driver to my PC (as I said, my computer is really close to dying and I'm afraid if I have to restart it won't turn back on).Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to get MediaSource to show data files. All I can see are media files. I figured out how to show all files on My Computer menu but not for the Zen Touch menu. How do I see the data files?
MediaSource can't show data files. I believe only PlayCenter, Nomad Explorer and Notmad can do this (and also Creative File Manager, which is essentially a non-music version of Nomad Explorer).

This can't download data files, only audio (if it can even do that, from the player to the PC).

  • Fast forward problems with Zen Touch (1.01.03 AND PlayForSu

    Device: Zen Touch
    Firmware: .0.03
Some files cause fast forward problems. Suppose I fast forward to the end of the song. Then I reach the - 00:00.00 marker. HOWEVER, the song goes on and on. It doesn't stop, even if it should (these files aren't corrupt, they work properly on my pc). For e.g. this file causes problems: http://www.hollywoodsaloon.com/podcast/THS-ep9.mp3 and this file http://meandawg.com/audio/MDTop5_0002.mp3.
Anyone know if this is a common problem, and can I fix this by installing the playforsure firmware?Message Edited by Nicos on 07-27-200703:42 AM

  • Problem with Zen Touch & Mediapla

    Hi there!
I've recently bought the Zen Touch and I am still quite happy with it. From Windows Mediaplayer I've already put around 0GB of music on it. But since this morning I've got a serious problem. When I start Mediaplayer to play some music it works fine, but when I plug in the Zen Touch, the programm crashes. This means that I can't put on new or delete old music from the Zen Touch.
    Does anybody know a solution?
    Thanx,
    Stefan

Probably worth trying a disk cleanup from rescue mode.
If that doesn't help, is other software like Creative MediaSource working?

  • Please Help "Firmware Problem" w/ Zen X

I have a 60GB Zen xtra, I was downloading music when I got the battery low message. I shut the player down and didn't recharge until the next day. When I plugged it in the player started re-loading the library then it stopped and I got the message "Firmware Problem" Iwas unable to use the player. I tried turning the player off but was unable to do so until I unplugged and removed the battery. I reinstalled the battery and got the same results, "reloading library" and then "Firmware Problem." I recharged the battery and still same results. I can't access anything. This is the second player I've had with problems. What do I need to do so that I can use the player?

Try reloading the firmware or at worst reformat the player. More here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

I lost my CD with the software for my mp3 zen touch, so I don't have mediasource.
My question is: how can I transfer music between my mp3 en my pc without the software?
I know you can download nomad explorer but if you want to use nomad explor you have to install the software first.
    Who can help me?

The problem is that I have nothing of the software installed and you've to install first the software from the cd before you can download en install something from the site. When I try to install mediasource or nomad explorer from the internet my pc says that there is no previous version installed.

  • Firmware Problem Creative Zen Vision : M 30

    Hello
I switched my Creative Zen Vision : M 30gb on today to find a firmware problem screen.
I tried to dock it with my PC but it was not working.
Tried using the reset button but it doesnt work
Tried going into recovery mode to reload the firmware but when i try to put the update on its says my player is not connected.
I tried using the MP3 recovry tool which recognizes my player but then when it tries to install the firmware it says it is not connected.
The firmware it is trying to put on says it for the 60gb model, would this stop it from reconizing my player?
It says it for a DVP-HD0004 but on the back of mine it says it is a DVP-HD0003
Could anyone find the right software because i cant find it's
    Michael

The first step is to do a cleanup >reboot on the player if that don't work? then while connected uninstall thru Device Manager, reboot computer then plugin to have Windows find & reinstall the player, if that? doesn't work then format, cleanup>reboot player to see if that solves the problem. loosing files is a last resort . Whatever you do DO NOT choose RELOAD FIRMWARE as you don't have recognition from the computer & can not reload it. RELOAD firmware ERASES the firmware making the player useless until it can be reloaded. Link for resue/recovery access on player? http://forums.creative.com/creativel...ap&thread.id=3
