Firmware update 7.5.2 is breaking workaround for disabling DHCP server

If you are using the trick described here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121990) to disable DHCP, you should know that after upgrading to 7.5.3, it will not work anymore. Downgrade to 7.4.2 makes it working again.
If somebody from Apple is reading this (and is interested in feedback, which I doubt, because there's no such option on the Support pages) - would it be possible to add an option to the AirPort configuration which would allow DHCP to be turned off (while NAT stays turned on)? It would be really nice...

Hmm, while typing previous message it gave me the following idea (and it worked)
Since i am using a mac mini as a server ( Debian, sorry ) it also has wlan, i set up the server so both are connected (eth0 / wlan0). Default of the dhcp server is to listen to all interfaces and voila DHCP for the wireless devices.
Hope this can help someone, without the need for downgrading your APE.

  • Firmware update to V 06.10 breaks browsing my 6110...

Some days ago I installed the actual firmware on my 6110 navigator in order to solve an other problem with syncML (see extra thread). Bad luck: it didn't solve that problem, but made a new one as I just noticed. In order to use my mobile as a modem, I used a small bash script which destilles the rfcomm-channel of the mobile with: sdptool search --bdaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx 0x1103 (replace the xx with the bluetooth adress of your mobile). Further on in that script, I used that channel (which amazingly changes from time to time) to establish a rfcomm (kind of serial) connection. But after the update neither sdptool gets any response (Failed to connect to SDP server on xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx: Host is down), nor rfcomm is able to connect to the phone. Even a phone restart did not help (as it did several times in the past when I had bluetooth problems).
    Thanks for any help

Solved the problem: Just deleted the pairing and newly paired my linux-box and  the mobile, and it worked again.

  • Macbook air is stuck in a reboot loop after running Software Update.  It looks like a firmware update is failing.

I have a first generation Macbook Air running Lion, and just ran software update to get the latest version of iTunes.  It appears I may have gotten a firmware update mixed in the bunch, and now it keeps trying to run the update at boot, failing, and shutting down.
I can start the restore partition, and the system appears to function, but I cannot figure out how to abort this failing update so I can use my system, and determine which update is breaking it and why. I've tried resetting the firmware, but that didn't change anything.
There's nothing, not even a the CD drive plugged into the Air, so it's not a peripheral problem.
I could restore from backups, but that seems like a very brute force way to get rid of a firmware update loader.
Does anyone know how to disable these little beasts?

Restart the Air while holding down the shift key, this is safe mode. Once in to the login screen, login then hold the shift key again. It will disable login items, which can be the cause of startup problems. Remove all your login items from your user accout and try a restart (Note the login items if you need to re-add essential ones later). If it all works well, then keep an eye on third party startup items, they will cause you grief!

  • Firmware Update 4.2.8 Fails on PowerMac G4

    Hello,
Concerning a Powermac G4 running 9.2.2 & attempting to upgrade to 10.3 (which requires the firmware update):
Removed all attachments except mouse, monitor and keyboard.
Ran firmware update 4.2.8 (for 2 x 450 mHz PPC AGP Graphics Powermac G4).
Restarted with "programmer's button" held in.
Tone sounded; Mac starts to boot into the update.
The folder flashes a question mark for a second, then looks like it has engaged (the screen goes blank for a second as if it were beginning to boot as usual).
The flashing question mark then appears again and remains on-screen indefinitely, requiring a manual restart with "option" key to boot into 9.2.2, at which point a message appears saying that the firmware update has not been installed.
In other words, whatever the firmware's trying to do, it isn't doing because (so it appears) it can't find the system folder.
I MUST install OS 10.3 IMMEDIATELY.
    PLEASE HELP ASAP

    Hi, amacproblem -
...what else would it have been set to?
It could have been set to a CD; or Network Disk (some OS 9.2..x installs leave it set to that for some reason); or nothing.
Although that firmware update has not been reported as checking for incompatible RAM before updating the firmware, it is possible that could be an issue. To check for that, download and run DIMM First Aid - it's a small program and takes just a few seconds to perform some basic checks on RAM; it can also repair some sub-spec RAM modules so that they are in compliance.

  • SMC Firmware Update

    Hi,
I am wondering what results people have seen from the SMC update, I am not ready to install it yet....

I wonder why the firmware update only causes these issues on certain MacBooks?
Both the "random shutdown" and "vertical streaks on boot" issues existed before the firmware update came out, but again, those two issues only happened on certain MacBooks.
Since the firmware update for MacBooks is the same (i.e. the update I downloaded that didn't cause any problems on my MacBook is the exactly same update you downloaded only to have problems you've never had before), I'm wondering if there's some hardware differences between MacBooks that are causing the issues in the first place, and the firmware update is bringing them to light.
For the record, I have a 1.83 MacBook that before the update didn't have the random shutdown issue (but had the horizontal line issue once). After the firmware update, it hasn't had the random shutdown issue nor the horizontal line issue.

  • Sony Firmware Update only available in .exe file

I have a Sony Blue Ray Player and the firmware updates are only available from Sony eSupport for Microsoft OS. I don't want to go to the trouble of partitioning the disk and using boot camp if I don't have to as this would be the only use I have for a MS OS. I don't even know why Sony wraps their .iso file in a .exe in the first place. I know that I can download the .exe but is there any simple way to get to the embedded .iso file to burn an image on a CD / DVD?

Baltwo, Thanks for pointing out that at least someone has tried to impress upon Sony Support that it would be most helpful to offer a .iso file for the many Sony customers who don't use Microsoft OS. Unfortunately, while this issue has been going on for years, I have never seen a reply from Sony acknowledging that resolution would be forthcoming. The mitigation of this situation would be at very little cost to Sony in that they would just need to keep such files available on their eSupport web site.

  • Phone Firmware Updates

I have looked at the page, and haven't been able to locate anything about firmware updates.
Basically, what I am looking for is find something regarding the next firmware updates. Specifically, what functionality is apple working on adding into the iPhone? (MMS, copy & paste)...?
Also, where is there somewhere PUBLIC, and STICKIED that iPhone users can REQUEST such upgrades to these devices.
I have seen such threads at other forums, yet I am not able to find one here. (perhaps I just missed it).
I love my iPhone, but hate the functionally, I can't copy & paste, can't send/recieve MMS, can't forward a text, etc. etc. etc...... the list goes on...

    roaminggnome
Its true, I didn't, no where was it mentioned either when I saw their ad that they would not allow something so rudimentary as copy and paste , something that's been around since the 80's I think, how could one suspect this. That's not exactly my fault, nor would it have been my fault if for example their keyboard didn't have, lets say, a space bar. After using a couple of other similar pda/phones (not the blackberry) that allowed so many things that apple didn't, how can anyone imagine the iphone would be lacking such obviously needed things. The thing that attracted me to the iphone was the screen size, maps, and supposed speedy internet. Anyway, I'm waiting on this new Nokia 5800, I think that's the model. The new google phone looks good also but we'll see. All I know is, as is, the iphone is not for me and I haven't been recommending it to anyone. Its funny to see people squinting when trying to explain that the phone can't copy and paste, and that if you want to bring some docs with you, you have to buy 3rd party software, figure out how to set up the software with your wifi, which only works 50% of the time if you're lucky, how such a big phone's speaker is so quiet that I have to put it on vibrate and still miss calls because I can't hear anything most of the time, ya, you can surf the internet but only part of the internet because the iphone doesn't support flash and a great percentage of the internet uses flash. I recently was trying check out new car prices only I couldn't because the 3 I tryed were using flash (I guess) and wouldn't load, and so on and so on and so on.

  • Powermac G5 Firmware Updates

Searches in the Apple support knowledgebase do not seem to list all firmware updates, and the few it does, don't seem to specify the models it applies to.
Can someone fix that and/or post a list of models with links to the right updates.

In the Firmware update list I see only one available for G5's.
    Hope this helps!

  • I don't have an option for Power Nap in my Energy Saver preferences...is there a firmware update forthcoming?

So I have a Retina MacBook Pro.  After installing Mountain Lion, I noticed that my email, calendars, notes, etc, are not updating when my Mac is asleep.  There are currently no updates for my Mac available right now.  I've seen people say that there is an option under the Energy Saver preferences that turns it on and off.  Tried reseting PRAM.
    Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, this requires a firmware update. Just sit tight and look for an update to pop up shortly.

  • CD/DVD Drive Firmware Update

If you are looking for a CD/DVD or Blu-ray drive update then use Imgburn to find the update if available.
Download and install Imgburn (it's a freebie). Uncheck the ASK Toolbar installation.
Launch Imgburn and click on Mode and select Discovery.
Be sure that Destination is set to the target CD/DVD drive needing the firmware update.
Then select:  Tools ---> Drive ----> Check for Firmware updates.
Firmware updates generally are released for media compatibility issues but also can correct other drive problems.
You can also go directly to FIRMWARE HQ.

    Hi,
I can't sign on to ROXIO either on my main PC using W7 64 bit.  I have to reboot to W7 32 bit.  It's the only forum that I have the problem.
Did you try burning a DL disk with your data as an ISO file on the hard drive using Imgburn?
Go into Device Manager and right mouse click on the optical drive and select properties.  Now select details and then hardware IDs.  What do you see for VEN and DEV  (vendor and device)?  Sometimes the hardware IDs and be used to locate firmware updates.

  • Firmware Update to Save Game Mode?

Did anyone ever find an answer on whether or not there will be a firmware update to save the "Game Mode" setting for the 46G300U1? This seems like it should be an easy fix. I'm having lip-sync issues when passing cable connections through my receiver to the TV. When you turn "Game Mode" on, the issues go away, but you have to do this EVERY time you turn on the TV. It never remembers that setting.

  • Rv082 v3 bricked during firmware update

I have an RV082 hardware version V03 that has been in service for about a year.   I tried to update the firmware to 4.2.2.08 from 4.1.1.01.  All appeared to be going well, then the browser timed out.  I waited a while (10 + minutes) and powered down the RV082, then powered it back up.
On boot all lights flashed, then it settled on the LAN link 1, DMZ Mode, internet, and system lights all lit solid green, but the Diag light lites red for 5 seconds, then out for 5 seconds over and over.
I have tried the recovery TFTP procedure (hold reset down while booting, release when Diag light lites, run RV042_1.3.7.2_050727.exe).  Booting with the reset button pressed is the same as without.  The recovery utility generates an "Login Fail" error in a separate red window after about a minute (with 192.168.1.1 in the address).  When I click OK in that it exits the recovery program
I also tried the method of hold reset for 5 seconds during power on then look for firmware update page at http://192.168.1.1.  I server not found.
I can Ping 192.168.1.1 and have the computer set to 192.168.1.5.  Using an IP scanner I can see the RV082 MAC address and IP address but nothing else.
I scoped out the power supply.  It is providing 5.07 VDC both connected to MB and open.  Ripple is <.003 Vpp.
The unit is several months out of warranty.
Is there any other procedure for unbricking these units?  I have the wherewithall to JTAG but don't see how to do it on this.
The unit has been replaced with a new one, I would just like to get this one back to life as a spare.
    Thanks for any help

  • WRT1900AC no firmware updates in 5 months on the 8th.....

No new features or bug fixes. As of December 8th 2014 that is coming up. It will be 5 months since the last firmware update release. Maybe they are shooting for half a year? 6 months? Maybe the product is EOL now? Just keeping quiet while they release version 1.1/2.0 later on this month? Beyond terrible I say. They should feel pretty ashamed and embarrassed. Is Harry and Lloyd leading the firmware team over at Linksys? Its pretty frusterating. Zero lack of communication at all with customers.

Yes, I agree. For an expensive router with some problems, and an anemic feature set this is just sad.
Doesn't really build confidence in Linksys/Belkin's support of their "flagship" expensive products. Don't think I'd be anxious to buy into this experience again...Anyone who buys an expensive Linksys router at this point, like the two new top of the line ones, must be a fool or crazy.

  • WRT350N DHCP Server Settings Firmware Version: v1.03.6

In the Basic Setup/DHCP Server Setting menu the value displayed for the starting IP address is always 192.168.1.100 and the Maximum Number of Users: is always 50. If I change the values (for example to 192.168.1.2 and 253) and select Save Settings, the edit boxes gray and I get the Settings are Successful message. Status/Local Network/DHCP Server shows the correct (the one I set) IP address start and range. Obviously, this is just an annoyance but it behaves this way regardless of using Firefox or IE browsers. My WRT300N updated the Basic Setup page when I modified the DHCP settings. I don't recall whether the WRT350N behaved this way on previous firmware revisions.

    hi guru69,
i've been using my WRT350N with firmware 1.03.2 for a couple of months now and have not encoutered problems yet. Well, aside from the ntfs write problem that was fixed with the latest fw..
when I tried using a share name with a $ sign, it said that it only allows alphanumeric , dashes and underscores. So this would mean that this is a limitation on the firmware. Linksys can probably add this feature on the next firmware (hopefully!) Same goes with the 6-8 character password.
For the https only access, Ive been using it, and so far no problems. If I try it with just http, it goes back with a page cannot be displayed error.
The time on the Status page is updated on my unit.
And as for the DHCP Clients table, I did not have to enable DMZ to view the connected clients.
Well, I must admit, I got curious with you post that's why I tested my router.
