Firmware update broke bootcamp install

Keep getting a mesage i need to upgrade firmware.
Where's the firmware downgrader?

Thanks. The 1.01 firmware update after doing the smc update worked. It's humming now.
Have you downloaded the correct firmware update:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproearly
2006firmwareupdate101.html
The SMC firmware upgrade is something different. I
haven't had an issue myself since i ran the 1.01
firmware update before doing the SMC update and XP
via bootcamp is working fine for me. My guess is
that you should be able to install the 1.01 firmware
upgrade, even though you have already run the SMC
update, but try it and let us know how it goes.

  • IMac PowerPC G3 Firmware Update for Tiger Install

I have an iMac PowerPC G3 that was purchased with a slot DVD and Mac OS 9 installed. I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.2.8 with one problem, ie., can't use the copy and scan functions on my Epson Stylus CX5200 All-In-One Printer. I learned, recently, those functions only work with Mac OS.9. Additionally, I purchased the Tiger operating system and upon installing, I learned I need a firmware update which can only be installed in Mac OS 9. Do I really need to reinstall Mac OS 9 to install the firmware update for installing the Tiger operating system and to use the Epson copy and scan functions?
    Any assistance will be appreciated.

i don't really know susan. it seems odd to me to have to have os 9, and that it couldn't be done in the later operating system. sorry, but i thought you were thinking you would have to erase the os x, install os 9, do the firmware update, and then install os x again:) what i would do i guess is contact epson. they should know exactly what you have do.|:)]

  • SMC Firmware Update 1.7 "Installed Successfully" Multiple Times, But Still Not Installed

    MacBook Pro, 15", Early 2011
    OS X 10.8.2
Software Update keeps telling me that I have the MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7 available for my machine.  I have run this update several times, both through Software Update and through directly downloading it from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
Through either method, running the update yields the same result:  it runs, reports that the update is installed, restarts the machine, and all seems good.  However, if I run Software Update again or check the SMC version, I still have the old SMC version 1.69f3 and the same update is still available in Software Update.
This thread -- https://discussions.apple.com/message/20649193 -- suggests running Disk Utility to find errors.  I have already run Disk Utility to check for errors (multiple times) and no errors have been reported.
This thread -- https://discussions.apple.com/message/21320561 -- suggested running a clean installation of the OS.  The other thread's solution ultimately also was a clean installation of the OS.  Having just done that barely a month ago on this machine, I really would prefer to not do that again so soon!
Has anyone else run into this issue and found a (hopefully less drastic) solution?  Thanks.

I guess I just fixed it.  Do you bootcamp to windows?  Once I changed my startup disk from the windows to the mac partition, rebooted, then dd the system update, the firmware update installed and took hold.

  • Sensor hub firmware update won't install on Windows 8.1 x64 on Twist...

    Hello...
I'm unable to install the "Sensor Hub Firmware Update for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad Twist S230u" package on my Twist S230u (3347) running Windows 8.1 x64.  When I run the package, I get a "Please install the .NET 4.5.50709 Framework, then restart this update application" error.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to install .NET 4.5 on Windows 8.x as it comes with the OS.  Windows 8.1 includes .NET 4.5.1.  I upgraded my Twist from Windows 8 to 8.1 via the Windows Store before this update came out.  So, as of right now, I can't install the firmware update that hopefully fixes the annoying ambient light sensor issue...  Any thoughts?  (I assume trying to shoehorn .NET 4.5.0.xxxx onto Win8.1 may be a bad idea...)

    Hi,
I found a workaround for this.
You just have to change the .NET version in the registry. Once done, you will be able to update the firmware. Don't forget to backup your registry first and to undo changes once the update has been completed.
    Run regedit.exe.
For 64-bit Windows users, go to the following key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
For 32-bit users, it should be here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
You'll need to change the permissions before you can edit anything.  First, change the owner to Administrators, then assign the Administrators principal with Full Control.
Finally, simply change the value for "Version" to "4.5.50709".

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7: installed or not?

I have MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7 showing as installed on Mar 17, 2015 on my AppStore Updates page; it also shows up as installed on Mar 18, 2015 and yet Mavericks wants to install it again.
I seriously doubt this update has been updated so many times, something just doesn't seem right.
Questions: what should I do? Is there a way to get rid off this annoying (1) showing on the AppStore updates?
    Thanks!
    Fernando

I have also been getting an error message that reads "An error has occurred" "The digital signature on Mac Book Pro EFI Firmware Update is missing or invalid. The update may have been tampered with since being signed by Apple. Click Update to download and check the update again.(203)" [OK]
This seems to indicate some sort of problem with/in the Apple Store, don't you think? Who do we call, Ghostbusters? :-) Hello, Apple, you there?
    Thanks for replying!

  • Firmware update won't install

My Mac was not connected to a power source when a Thunderbolt update started.   Now installation appears to be stuck.  In the App Store under "Updates" the Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 is listed as "installing" but the progress bar is all the way to the left and hasn't budged in an hour.
To complicate matters, I just upgraded to Yosemite and am trying to install the iPhoto Library updater and I'm afraid I'll lose photos because that installation says "waiting for other installations to complete."  I did a back up of the hard drive before installing Yosemite so I'm hoping photos are safe.
I read that restarting the computer when firmware is being installed can render the computer unusable.  Is that also true of a firmware update?
When you answer, if you do, please keep in mind that I am not a technical person.
*Not sure if this is important or not but under "purchases" in App Store, OS X Yosemite is listed and there is "download" button.  I thought this was odd, because I have OS X Yosemite installed.

After you download the update it should run and bring up a dialog box asking you to close all programs and to shut down the machine. It sounds as though you are getting at least this far. After you shut down the machine are you then pressing and holding the power button until either the sleep light starts flashing, or the computer makes long tone sound? If you just restart the machine and do not hold the power button the firmware does not actually install, these steps are required to actualy install the update.

  • Firmware update broke my USB Ports!

I did the firmware update on my iPod 5G through iTunes today. As it was updating, a warning message popped up and said, "iTunes cannot find a folder. Cannot install update" (exact words).
I click OK, all of a sudden "USB Not Recognized" pops up on my screen in the task bar. My printer (connected to a different USB port) no longer is recognized, my camera, my iPod, NOTHING is recognized anymore on USB, not ANY of the 6 USB ports that are connected to my computer!
After 45 minutes on support I was told to uninstall and reinstall the iTunes/iPod updates (which won't help because my computer can't recognize the iPod!), and there was nothing else they could do.
To say the least, I am steamed! BEWARE!!! this firmware update, omg. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE OFFER SOME ADVICE OR HELP!?
    I have tried:
    -Uninstalling and reinstalling USB drivers
    -Rebooting (of course)
    -Resetting my iPod
    Running:
    Windows XP Pro
    3.0 GHz Athlon XP 64
    Thank you!
    Windows XP Pro

    Oh, you too...
Yes, it was a wonderful Christmas. Granny bought the kids Ipods, I had to install... and lo and behold, suddenly, no USB ports! Or so I figured out on my own... after being on hold/etc with apple for 2 1/2 hours that is (their great advice: "oh, maybe the ipods are broken. Bring them to an authorized dealer to get them checked out." Yeah, thanks. Imagine that scene.)
Anyway Kyle, I finally (and I'm not running Pro, and surely not the most but not the least, computer savvy mom around), after trying and failing to reinstall the drivers (the computer wouldn't even recognize that I had anything on the original installation cd) a million times, I caved and called the Geek Squad. I spent $99 and most of the day, had to wipe the hard drive and start over, but finally got the USB ports working again. (Gave up on my old printer tho, but was able to install a new one.) I don't know exactly how the Geek guy did it, he had to try a number of ways to reinstall the drivers. Under devices, or device manager?, where you should see them as installed, a large yellow question mark kept coming up. Whether I really needed to reformat the c drive or not to accomplish this, I don't know. Didn't care at that point.
    Good luck! Happy New Year.

  • Firmware updates not being installed

    Hey,
I have a Mid-2012 MacbookAir with all the latest software updates. There are only three firmware updates that always show up over and over again after I've installed them. I've tried everything but the firmware just won't get updated.
    Updates:
Macbook Air SMC Firmware Update 1.9
    Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2
Macbook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1
    What I've tried:
    Reset SMC
Fix drive and drive permissions in recovery mode
Install updates manually from apple.com in safe-mode
Delete contents of /system/library/firmware updates/ folder
Yes the charger has been connected to the computer while updating. I have never used FileVault so it's not on. My computer is working fine, but I'd like to have these updates installed because they fix some serious problems that might eventually break my computer or erase all my data if left unfixed. On top of that I can't install Mavericks until I have Flash Storage Firmware 1.1 update installed.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do next?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data. Quit the App Store application if it’s running. Test after each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Updates
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the contents of the selected folder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
If there's no change, quit the App Store and restore the file you moved from your backup, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, recreate your settings in the Software Update preference pane.
    Step 3
Hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Move the following items from the Library folder to the Trash (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
    Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.*.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.savedState
Here, "*" stand for a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes.
    Step 4
If you still have problems, quit the App Store again.
Select this line and copy it to the Clipboard:
    open $TMPDIR../C
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window. Depending on which web browser you use, you may have to press the return key. A folder should open. Inside that folder, there may be a subfolder with the name "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate". If so, delete it. You can then quit Terminal.

  • MacBook Pro firmware update after erase & install

    Hi,
I just tried to update from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 with software update last night and got the error message a lot of people have been experiencing, then, got stuck at the apple logo with the never-ending spinning wheel... well... tried repairing disk, permissions, everything, but didn't work...
Now I reinstalled OS X with the dvd that came with my pro (10.4.6) and I noticed that when I run softwarte update, a specific MacBook Pro firmware update and some battery update didn't show up, does that mean I already have it? because it is firmware, the installation of OS X didn't erase it?
And to all those out there stuck at the boot screen, I'm trying the manual combo update (downloading from apple.com) and will tell if this works (thank god I backed up everything!)

    Good Morning,
To answer your firmware question, yes. Once applied a firmware update is burned into the chip on the device being updated and is not subject to being removed with an operating system, the only way to change that firmware is to update it with something else.
You should be fine that they aren't showing up because, as you said, you already have them. 
    David

  • Downloaded matchbook air flash firmware update will not install

downloaded mackbook air flash firmware update will not install

Awesome! I was getting really frustrated by this, but found your post and it worked. Thanks!
I wonder how apple did not come up with a warning when you start the insatllation that would tell you that it would not work with an encrypted disk.  These sorts of warnings should be standard procedure. Whatever, finally the red number disappeared. Thanks lemach again!
One small addition: After turning file wault off, you need to reboot before starting the update, otherwise the decryption does not take effect.

  • Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update Won't Install (Mac Pro 2007)

This keeps popping up in Software Update, even though I've 'Installed' it.
I restart, progress bar goes to 100%, fans spin up...reboot. However, evry time Software Update loads...there it is agian. I've checked the Firmware/Boot ROM number, and it's not what it should be (is still the previous rev.)
I've done this 4 times now...
Is it even worth bothering with?

Did you actually run the update from your Utilities folder (where I believe it ends up)? You'll go through a process of rebooting and hearing the long tone / seeing grey screen and progress bar. Until it's actually run properly, you'll keep seeing reminders.

  • E51 latest firmware update broke any WIFI attempt ...

I'm really pi__ed off now, after the latest firmwareupdate i get: "Web: No Gateway Reply" whenever I try to connect to ANY wifi connection, regardless off wep/public etc. What is really annoying is that this is NOT a new issue...it has been reported in earlier firmwares in all kinds of forums... and the lack of support from Nokia in this matter is mind boggling.
I want my phone fixed! and dont give any **bleep** like: "did you try to connect to another wlan etc." off course I have. There is no reason why my wlan spots wouldnt work after the update.
Does anyone have a solution to this annoying problem?

What you said made no sense, please explain what you meant if you even can. To be honest you sound like you have no idea what you are talking about. "But those are type of private WLANs and you can not browse them." Please define a private Wlan and why I should not be able to "browse" it.
There seems to be a bug within the DHCP client. Maybe it's not holding the RFC standards for DHCP because when I configure static IP on the phone, everything works properly. Please fix DHCP!
Funny enough I can access my router's configuration page from the phone but it just wont go through the internet.

So i try to tun botocamp but its says i need to download a firmware update. ive already installed mac osx 10.4.7 and i cant find any other downloads on top of that. any ideas?

The firmware you need can be found here:

It doesn't show up in Software update, so that probably explains why you've never seen it.
