Firmware Update Does Noth

Out of nowhere the other day, my 30gb Nomad Zen Xtra suddenly stopped playing music and when i looked at the screen it said "Firmware Problem". So I looked into it and went into rescue mode and ran the clean up. This did nothing. Then I tried updating the firmware through the USB. Everything seemed to work fine and the process showed no signs of error, but every single time I do this, after the player reboots, the Firmware message is still there. Is there anything I can do? I have 3000+ songs on there and they aren't backed up on my computer so i would only want to completely reformat if it is the only possible option of having my player working again.

You aren't going to like the answer then, because anecdotally format is the only thing that cures it (and you've tried everything else anyway).

  • Mini DVI to external monitor (VGA) problem/firmware update does nothing

    Hi,
Four months ago I bought a new white 13-inch Macbook (2006 model I believe) along with a handy mini-DVI - VGA adapter. I used a Hanns-G HU196D external monitor which worked fine for a couple of months but then stopped, and had the same problem with a (much cheaper) 'LiteView' monitor. I find it bizarre how they work absolutely fine and then stop, with no damage to the adapter, cable or ports. I've since bought a new adapter and cables + trying out a different monitor and still the same problem...
I've installed a firmware update that describes the exact symptoms, but it's done nothing. Can anyone help me resolve my issue?? It's still under warranty so is it an unusual problem that'll need to be fixed by Apple?
    Thanks

Are you using the mini DVI to DVI followed by a DVI to VGA adapter? That may not work if the mini DVI to DVI adapter does not pass analog video. If that is the case, you need the mini DVI to VGA adapter:

  • EA6400 firmware update does not update

Just got my new EA6400 router and after installation I saw there is a firmware update.
    current firmware 1.1.40 (build 153731)
    new firmware 1.1.40 (build 160989)
After updating the firmware what seems to be successful, no errors and a message box at the end that the firmware update was successful, the firmware still is on the old version!
I tried a number of things to make sure I did nothing wrong:
    - reset modem
    - manual firmware update
    - factory reset
    - tried with differen browsers (chrome, IE) and from different machines and operating systems wired and wireless

Take a look at the change log on the support site and see if there is anything worth while in the new version. If not then I wouldn't even try to update. Usually there isn't much if any change to a build number difference on the same release number. And I would advise you to uncheck the autoupdates if they're are checked. Bettrr to do it manually where you can control what and when on your own.

  • Software Update "does nothing"

I have problems with Software Update. When i click on it, the app starts looking for updates, the blu bar grows just a little and then it stops, the app doesn't hung but it does nothing, it seems that doesn't found the apple server, i don't know...
i have downloaded the 10.5.6 path "manually" and after installing it, SoftUpdt continues without working...
All the connections are allright, tpc/ip is working, in fact i have tied to create another admin account and when i execute the software update app it works properly, but when i come back to my user it doesn't work..
    don't know what is happening.
Any ideas, anyone with similar problem ??
    thanks a lot

You may also try to do an archive and install if the preference trashing does NOT correct the issue. You can manually do updates through the web, but it is easier to do through software update. I saw a similiar issue and the archive&install fixed it in 45min. What Mac are you using? What operating system do you have? Is this computer still under warranty?

  • Help - Updates does nothing...

I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4 Design Premium and I want to update all the programs. I click on the 'Help' drop-down menu and click on 'Updates' and nothing happens. I ran the Adobe Updater on the computer seprately but it's trying to find updates for the CS2 programs. I tried running the set-up off the disk again and repairing permissions (just because) and still the same.
    Any one have any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Ooop! Just found the new update for the update manager... It's here if anyone needs the link! All is working now.

  • 1.1.4 firmware update - does it improve audio quality?

I'm really confused here as I've read different opinions on various Apple ipod touch forum sites that some people swear after updating the firmware the audio quality has improved greatly (e.g. better bass/mid-range responses, louder volume). I called Apple retail store and was told no, that the only thing the firmware update fixes are bugs. Well, I still have the 1.1.3 version (mine came with the January updates) and so am debating whether to update or not. Anyone who has on this forum, have you noticed any improvement made to the audio quality?

To all: so do you guys recommend I still upgrade to the 1.1.4? FWIW, I haven't experienced any bug issue with my touch (I have yet to test the internet access of the touch, and from what I've heard some people have reported that their safari crashed with the 1.1.3 version; when they upgraded to 1.1.4 all was said to be fine).

  • Satellite L40 - 1.90 bios update does nothing on Vista exept reboot

    Hi,
We have a L40 laptop and very happy with it. It has bios 1.60 and I want to update it to 1.90. Vista-32 home basic was by default installed. It now has SP1.
When I unzip the package and run the bat file (which start winflash with the binary), the "dos" window opens and stays there for a while. Nothing happens and afterwards the window closes and the system is rebooted.
When I just run winflash, nothing happens. There is no dialog or any other messages.
How does one update the bios on the L40-14Y (PSL48E)?
    Thx!
    DickS

Could be, the account is in admin rights so should work.
But the winflash just closes on start. I tried running it in XP-SP2 compatability mode, same behaviour.
Maybe there is an issue with German Vista-32-SP1? No idea, but strange as the bios file is from 28.3 when there was RC of SP1 so I'd think it would be tested by Toshiba.
Should I trace with debugview and send it to Toshiba somewhere?

  • Macbook pro. app tries to use flash player and get " Blocked plugin" how to uninstall and reinstall flash player. update does nothing ?

Wife has an older MacBook Pro. when an app uses flash player "Blocked plugin" comes up. I don't know much about mac, tried to update flash player and get newer version already installed, and update and still get same message. How do I uninstall flash player and reinstall?

Sounds like it is blocked for the website you are at. Check with this:
You can quickly test whether a recently added plug-in is causing problems by blocking it.
Choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, then click Website Settings next to Allow Plug-ins.
Select the plug-in you want to disable on the far left, then click each pop-up menu on the right and choose Block. For some plug-ins, you see pop-up menus for different websites, and you can choose to block each one individually. Use the “When visiting other websites” pop-up menu to block all other websites that don’t have individual settings.

  • OT: Adobe Updater does nothing

    Hi there.
    CS3; DW & PS
For some reason Adobe Updater opens everytime I start my PC (Vista Ultimate) the updater box pops up, as if there is an update. But, the box is empty without any updates.
Is it possible that the updater is corrupt?
I will really appreicate any direction to solving this problem.
    Regards,
    Deon

The CS3 updater has a bug that prevents it from resolving the host address to the update servers. Hence it eitehr goes into a forever loop, bogging down resources, or comes up empty. I recommend you simply rename the executable or delete it and be done with it. You can pretty much download all the updates from the adobe site and install the manually, so it should only be a minor inconvenience.

  • EFI firmware update...

Ok..so I did my update on the firmware thing, everything works just fine but I notice that now my computer takes a lot more time to start up...hmmm does this have to do anything with the update? Also yesterday I did one other update ( I don't remember what was called..sorry) but now I saw that every time that my computer comes out of sleep it doesn't make any sound....you know before it did a sound, the same one that does when you start it up...now nothing. Is that strange or is it normal?
    Thank you for your help.

Firmware updates a significant updates to the hardware of your machine. You should make it a point to know what the firmware update does (especially since they tend to only address an issue or two). One of the firmware updates you installed was specifically to stop the optical drive from initializing when waking from sleep.

  • Firmware Update Problems

I was trying to use the Migration Assistant on my new Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro to move data from my old reliable G4 AGP Power Mac. The Firewire connection couldn't be made and the MA suggested I needed to update the firmware on the G4. I accordingly downloaded firmware update 4.2.8, re-booted the G4 into OS 9.2.1, and started to use the shutdown-programmer-switch-power-on routine in the documentation. This didn't work: the G4 put me into programmer's mode and I re-booted the machine and started over. That's when the trouble started.
I re-booted into OS 9.2.1 and started the firmware update again. This time the tone sounded, the progress bar appeared, and all appeared well for the moment. However, when the progress bar disappeared, I didn't get the message I was supposed to get about the firmware being updated. Instead, the machine suddenly gave the tone again twice and the power button blinked orange twice. Then it did the same thing again.
Now the G4 is completely unresponsive. I tried a restart and then a cold boot (power disconnected, re-boot). Nothing works. The start tone sounds, as usual, and the hard disk starts to spin, but then stops. I tried to re-boot from the CD drive using the OSX 10.4.8 install disk that came with the Macbook Pro, but there was no response at all, after the initial startup tone and an initial click or two from the hard disk. The CD drive never started to spin. I'm at a loss as to what to do next, but I'm going to try the OSX 10.3 install disk next. If I can't get any response to the drives, however, I'm not sure that will do any good.
I called Apple, but they no longer support my G4. Their suggestion was to try to retrieve the data from the hard disk. I'm hoping someone here has a better alternative than that; I was planning to use the G4 for other work. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi, Tracy -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
...the machine suddenly gave the tone again twice and the power button blinked orange twice.
That may be the clue. According to Apple KBase Article #58442 - Power On Self-Test Pt. 2 that would indicate there is no usable RAM available.
Unfortunately, several years ago some 3rd-party manufacturers of RAM sold a number of modules which did not quite meet Apple's design specs, but which were good enough to pass the startup self-test criteria at the time.
One of the things that the 4.2.8 firmware update does is to tighten down on the requirement that RAM modules must meet the original design criteria (I understand this was done in consideration of the pickiness of OSX about RAM quality and performance). Many of the sub-spec modules won't meet that requirement - having the startup test, they are locked out at startup. If all the RAM modules are of that type. there is no RAM left with which to boot the machine.
If you have any of the original RAM modules that came with that machine (from Apple, not from a 3rd-party reseller), try putting that module in it and booting to OS 9. You may need to borrow a good module from a friend.
Once you get it booted to OS 9, download and run DIMM First Aid - this utility can perform some basic tests on RAM modules, but more importantly it can often repair the coding on many sub-spec modules that used to work prior to the 4.2.8 firmware update, thus recovering them. Swap out modules as necessary (shutting down between each swap) until all are repaired that can be.

  • Upgrade 333 G3 OS 8.6 to 9.2; Which firmware update?

A friend's son gave her a 333 MHz G3 iMac 64 MB ram (slot loader) running OS 8.6. I tried to upgrade to OS 9.2 but it wants a firmware update. Which firmware update does it require?

    Duane,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have downloaded that firmware update and will take it to her when she and I get are both available.

  • AirPort Extreme firmware update fails due to proxy

Have latest AirPort Extreme (tower) hardware at work, with v7.7 firmware, and am trying to upgrade the firmware to 7.7.3 via AirPort Utility v6.3.2 in Mavericks OS X 10.9.5.  The Extreme is on the work network behind a proxy server.  There is no capability to specify proxy information to the AirPort Utility, although my MacBook is properly configured with the proxy server in network settings.  Every time I try to perform "Update" on the Extreme in AirPort Utility, I get "Downloading Firmware" and then "An error occurred while downloading firmware."  I presume the MacBook would be downloading firmware and going thru the proxy to get it, and then applying the firmware update to the extreme, but I can't get the firmware downloaded.

If you or any of your work colleagues has a AE AC model at home.. their laptop would already have the firmware sitting on it.. and as long as you select the right one it should work.. if they upgraded their hardware with that laptop.
In one way the nice thing with Apple is the sheer limited amount of hardware there is..
Apple have just one AC model AE.. the latest firmware is 7.7.3 AFAIK.. I stay away from latest AC products as they are troublesome.
About AirPort base station firmware updates
Does AirPort Utility for OS X keep an archive of all my AirPort base station firmware updates?
AirPort Utility keeps an archive of all Wi-Fi Base Station firmware updates you install, and stores them in ~/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware

  • 10.4.7 Intel Update -  Firmware update required?

I don't currently have an internet connection and would like to update from 10.4.4 to 10.4.7 . I have the intel combo update but a little bird tells me a firmware update is required also thhough I can't find mention of this anywhere!
Is this true and if so can someone point this blind noob in the right direction?
    TIA
    Jase

    HI, Jason.
You are correct in that the "About the Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update" document does not specify that the "iMac (early 2006) SMC Firmware Update" as a prerequisite.
However, the "iMac (early 2006) SMC Firmware Update" does state in its "System Requirements" (box in lower-right corner) that one should be running "Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later."
So, it would seem you should update to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later (such as 10.4.7) before applying the "iMac (early 2006) SMC Firmware Update."
    Good luck!

  • CP2025 Stuck in "Initializing..." After Firmware Update 20140702

My CP2025 was printing page after page of single line garbage characters endlessly after every six or so ok print jobs.  I tried the 20140702 firmware update.  The utility indicated "completed" with a stupid smiley face instead of just saying "Completed!".  I waited 15 minutes turned the printer off then on.  Now it endlessly displays "Initializing..." then after 10 minutes it prints endless pages of single line garbage characters until it runs out of paper.  The orange and green lights blink endlessly.  When it's printing it's still displaying "Initializing..."
I've tried the OK-Orange button then powering it up.  And the OK-Right Arrow button then powering it up.  Tried re-running the firmware update.  Nothing works.
Is there a solution for this?
Or this is a case of a once nice HP product becoming a worthless hunk of junk?
If I can't resolve this within a few days I will tossing this HP printer out to the junk pile and buying one that works from a different manufacturer.  I used to go out of my way to buy HP products but I've been very disasppointed over the last 2 years with my HP purchases and this is the last HP product I have.  Is it fixable or is it just a hunk of junk now?
And will I ever buy an HP product ever again?
    Thanks.
       - Grant

...And the answer is "No.  There is no fix for this HP printer problem."
And...I will not buy another HP product ever again.  I used to go out of my way to buy HP products.  Now, given my numerous bad experiences with them, I will go out of my way to avoid them.
HP you really need to take a look at what made you successful in the past and how you've moved away from that and how you need to get back to that.
