Firmware update error in 2 minute old ipod

Having just received a shiny new ipod back from apple service....i plug it in and it says it needs to be restored so i do!!
Now all the restore program says is firm ware update error after a very short time and the ipod shows the folder icon
Im seriously p*ssed off cos this has come straight from apple directly!!!
Is this an ipod problem or has my computer got some form of ipod virus or anti ipod problem???
Help Please I don't want to wait another 2 weeks
Dave

To save Mitch from alot of trouble trying to fix the error.
Go into 'My Computer', Right Click on any blank spot, Hit Properies. Click on the Hardware Tab, click the device Manager button, scroll down to Universial Serial Bus Controllers, click the plus. Do Any of them say 2.0 or Enchanced, if not, the firmware failure might be related to USB 1.1 .
If it does say Enchanced or 2.0 make sure the ipod is plugged into the back.
Firmware Failure Diskwrite Error(maybe a Update in there), is a somewhat of a general error, Can be connection issue related to how its connected, or it could be a problem with the iPods hard drive.
If still not working, time to test it on another PC(Or Mac) If you don't have one, go here:
http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service.html
Type in your Zip Code, It will list the closest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Providers.

  • IPod problem - firmware update error. Disk write error.

I need your help! I’me just bought a new iPod 60 GB photo (with color display) but when I connected it for the first time to my PC (with Windows XP Home Edition SP 2) using USB 2.0 I got the message: ”iPod not readable. This iPod needs to be reformatted for use on your PC”. Of course I decided to do that. The system had launched iPod updater. It asked me if I wanted to update or restore iPod’s software however the operation “update” was inactive (grey). So I choosed “restore”. Then a new window appeared: “Firmware update error. Disk write error”. On the iPod’s display a normal menu was replaced by exclamation mark. I tried to reset iPod, updated iTunes and iPod’s updater to the newest version and… nothing. It still doesn’t work. A folder with „!” mark comes up. I try to restore once again and it says: „Firmware update error. Disk write error”.
Please help! What should I do to solve my problem? I want to add that my iPod is properly recognized by the computer system.
Unfortunately, it’s rather impossible to give back my iPod to the store. It was bought in the U.S.A. and I live in Poland.

b “Firmware Update Failure” Possible Solution
    -- Disconnect the iPod
-- Right click on "My Computer"
    -- Select "Manage"
    -- Select "Device Manager"
-- Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
-- Right click on "Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller"
    -- Click on "Disable"
-- Click "OK" to accept changes
Run the Updater software (Start==>Run==>iPod) and wait till it says to "Plug in an iPod to update it"
Plug in the iPod and wait (for a long while). It takes awhile because you are now running at USB 1.1 speeds. When it finally shows up, do the "update" or "restore", which ever you were trying to do.
You can try to re-enable the "Enhanced PCI TO USB Host controller" after you are done running the Updater software and try to copy your songs and pictures to the iPod. This may or may not work. If not, revert back to USB1.1.

  • NSS6000 "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt."

    Hello All,
I've recently run into a problem trying to update the firmware on our NSS6000 to either 1.20.1 or 1.21.0.  We are currently running 1.16-3.
Each time after I click "Upgrade Firmware", the upgrade fails with the same error:  "Firmware Update Error: The firmware image file is corrupt.  Obtain another copy of the file and try the firmware upgrade again".
I've tried re-downloading the NSS6000_FW_1.20.1.tar.gz and NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz several times from multiple PCs, and using multiple browsers.  I've tried several combinations of Windows Server 2003R2, Windows Server 2008R2, Windows 7, and Firefox, Chrome, and IE 8/9.
The downloads all appear to be fine, and they all can open/extract with 7-zip without issue.  The file sizes are always the same.
No combination of OS/Browser yields a different result on the upgrade attempt either.
I tried renaming NSS6000_FW_1.21.0.tar.gz to NSS6000_fwupgrade_0121.tar.gz to match the convention used in early versions (thinking that the extra "."'s could be the issue) but no luck either.
I was able to successfully re-apply the NSS6000_fwupgrade_0116.tar.gz firmware without any issues at all.
A strange thing I noticed, though, was on the "The system will reboot now. Please close your browser." window, it shows the device as an "NSS2000 2-Bay Gigabit Network Storage System" (please see attached screenshot).  I'm chalking that up to a simple reusing-the-same-web-code issue rather than the root of the problem, but thought I should mention that as well.
Has anyone else run into this issue, or have any suggestions for workarounds in order to successfully upgrade the FW on this device?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,
Not sure what is going on i haven't see the issue you are having, can you try downloading both images at a different location; instead of behind your router. Also upgrade to .20 and then .21. Im pasting the release notes upgrades step.
When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to
v1.21.0 the Configuration GUI displays a "Programming images.." message
for more than 12 minutes (the time it takes to upgrade the firmware is
    usually 5 to 10 minutes).
The workaround is to wait at least 15 minutes to complete the upgrade and
then power cycle the NSS by removing the power cord. Do not try and
access the Configuration GUI during this time. (CSCsx17923) When upgrading the firmware from v1.12 to v1.14, v1.12 to v1.20.1, or v1.12 to

  • Getting firmware update error. disk write error message

i installed the lastest ipod shuffle update and when I try to restore ipod shuffle I get the error message "firmware update error. disk write error" have no idea what to do. ipod does not show up in itunes

ok, someone else with similiar problem, I just opened the box 5 days ago, installed iTunes (the June 2005 version) that came on CD with it, ran iTunes, downloaded some music, plugged in Shuffle, goto download, fails, no device found, can see it under XP ok, goto apple.com to find support FAQ, I then ran up Ipod Updater, thinking that since it was new, firmware must be recent (little did I know ) so I thought do the Restore straight off, it started, then failed with the "disk write error" and havent been able to talk with iPod Updater since, then tried installing iPodUpdater to another PC, no luck, then downloaded later versions of iTunes and uPdater, installed on a 3rd PC, same deal, unable to communicate to Shuffle, rang phone support, spoken to two different support people, finally they agree its faulty (something I figured out 4 days ago) and suggest I return it to Apple for replacement, and fill out a Service Request form, which opened a can of new worms, like there is no "Warranty Replacement" option, lots of questions like Credit Card details and nowhere to actually define that I have a "faulty" or "dead" or Shuffle to return and they obviously did not read the comments, that were requested, as they simply sent docking station in the mail, so now back to square one, trying to lodge a Service Request to "replace" a brand new, dead shuffle. Not having a nice iPod experience here !!, but Itunes is good, although expecting it will take a couple weeks all up before I get a working Shuffle to actually download to. Tried again phone support, to sort out this mess, waited in queue, then line goes dead. Oh Well ... I blame my daughter for this heartache, she insisted on having an iPod.

Nazeer

    @lalit_205
If you have a valid warranty you could go to a Lenovo service center to update the phone or flash/install (at own risk) the latest S062 update.
If you decide to flash the latest firmware->
Download and unpack the latest S062 firmware and follow the installation instructions from Message 2(refers to a different model but the driver and flashing procedure is similar. The S660 battery is removable....You do need to remove the battery to install the vcom/sp driver. Also the firmware installation is done with the battery removed in the S660 case).
I suggest to select ''Firmware Upgrade'' instead of ''Download Only''(DO NOT SELECT ''Format All + Download).
    Alternative instructions link.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error 1628- i removed old ipod installation, still get error

the 2nd installation for my 20g ipod always stops at the point where it is installing the shield for the ipod installation, this error comes up(1628). the ipod support says to delete the old ipod ****, so i did that, still doesnt work. ipod also is making weird shifting noise, like its trying to do something but gets stuck and starts over. sometimes it stops and goes into battery charging symbol (doesnt move). ill reset and it goes back into strange noise, says do not disconnect/ by the way it takes like 5 to 10 minutes for it to recognize my ipod in the installation process, i donno if thats normal or what

hey it turned out ok. i just spanked my ipod a little bit to stop the shiftin, that made the installer recognize the ipod at all. next i deleted the temp files which let me fiinish the installation. the wierd part is that somewhere along the line all my stuff got wiped off the ipod, which is why i uninstalled evrything in the first place, but now everythings back on. it didnt update it at all, it just magically appeared

  • Firmware Update Error/Unable to Format/ HELP PLEASE!

I have happily been using three 3G ipods with Windows XP via firewire for 9 months or so until recently....
    1. Installed 250GB external USB HD to house music and lost previous library files in the process.
    2. On connecting my 40GB ipod, got request to update and then "Firmware update failure-Disk write error" and the dreaded Exclamation mark folder.
    3. Returned ipod to Apple Service and bought new 60GB Colour ipod the day before going abroard for a month. This works OK although seems slow to be recognised by itunes and update.
    4. Got home today and plugged in my Son's 20GB 3G and got the same problems as above. Tried formatting as suggested in these pages but get "Unable to complete format" message.
    5. Apple due to deliver my repaired/replaced 40GB tomorrow - am I likely to get the same problems, and again if I plug in my Daughter's 20GB. It seems unlikely to get 2 faulty ipods within a month with the same symptoms.
Any ideas anyone? I've reset, attempted updates and formats umpteen times and have itunes 4.9 and the latest updater. New 60GB seems OK. Many thanks, Nick.

  • Error while downloading iphone firmware update (error code -3254)

    Hey guys,
I am using the German versions of iTunes and the iPhone. When I connect the iPhone to my machine, iTunes starts up and proceeds to inform me that a new firmware update is available. After the license agreement is confirmed, nothing seems to happen for a few sceonds. Then, an error message pops up which tells me that "an unknown error has occured". The error code is -3254.
I searched Google and these forums for variations of this problem, but couldn't find anything suitable. The error code is not mentioned anywhere.
My iTunes version is 7.6.1.9 (running on Windows XP)
My iPhone has firmware version 1.1.3 (failed while upgrading to version 1.1.4)
I found out that similar errors can be caused by firewall misconfigurations, but the built-in iTunes diagnosis tool didn't report any connection problems (I also temporarily opened all of my router UDP ports, didn't help at all).
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. The download finishes and then it says an unknown error occurred. It says it has something to do with my network connection, but I don't think that's the problem.
Did you find a solution yet?
I tried to reinstall iTunes but it didn't work.

  • Can't install os mavericks because don't have macbook air flash storage firmware update 1.1; can't install firmware update because OS is too old (10.7.4)

Hello, I have a Macbook Air, bought May 2012 or so that came with OS 10.7.4 on it.  Did not try to upgrade OS until recently.  Tried to upgrade to OS Mavericks, however received error message 'Before installing OS X Mavericks this system requires MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1."  I then downloaded and attempted to install said Firmware Update 1.1, but received another error message, to wit: "This update requires 10.7.5 or 10.8.5 or later"
Who can help me out the this Catch-22?  I thought about first updating to OS 10.8, but apparently that is no longer available?

    Hi CursedIn,
If the Firmware update required for Mavericks requires 10.7.5 to install, you may be able to download it directly from the following link:

  • Conflicting information from support pages about firmware update error

I recently opened my Macbook to see a firmware update. I followed the instructions to install it, however when I went to shut down to complete the process, I got an error: +"unexpected error occurred (0); unable to upgrade firmware"+
After several tries, some digging through the support articles yielded this information:
+Firmware updates for Intel-based Macs require a GUID partition scheme+
+Firmware updates will not install on an Intel-based Mac if the computer is using a non-standard partition scheme, such as an fdisk scheme. You may see an "unexpected error occurred (0); unable to upgrade firmware" error message, or your computer may start normally (after a single beep if the power button is held) when attempting to install the firmware update.+
So I followed the instructions to determine which partition scheme I had. It was "applepartitionscheme". I read further to see how to correct this, assuming I should to make sure I had the latest updates on my computer. After seeing that it required backing up data, and potentially my install disc, I decided to put my Service Plan money to work, and have Apple Support walk me through it, as I am still a rather novice Apple customer.
I admit I was frustrated that the man on the phone did not seem to understand that I already had a grasp on my problem, and that I bypassed a lot of the diagnostic steps already. I realize that tech support has to follow some step by step manual when talking to a customer, but sometimes I hate being patronized. (Yes, my monitor is on, yes I am connected to the internet. I am not stupid.) I explained I recently had the hard drive replaced. He walked me through "Repairing Permissions" using my install disc. This did not fix the issue. He explained that the update was probably not needed. It wasn't compatible with my computer, and that the techs who put my new drive in probably installed any updates I needed at Apple Care.
But, am I just really not educated enough in this? Wouldn't my computer say then if it had the most current update? When I check my version it reads : MB....B02, 1.13f3 but when I check under the list of latest update for Macbook it reads, MB...B07, 1.4f12. Is my new hard drive is indeed updated, but my "About This Mac" still thinks it has an older version? Am I going to have this problem with every update?
I find it hard to believe that after reading this highlighted tech support article:
+An Intel-based Mac's hard disk must be formatted with the GUID partition scheme to apply a firmware update. Intel-based Macs are shipped this way from the factory. If you have reformatted your hard drive, you should check which scheme your hard disk is currently using before applying a firmware update.+
that I don't need to fix this incompatibility. Can anyone help with this?

At that point say you are not satisfied and you would like to A: talk to his supervisor
    or B: escalate the problem.
Trust what "System Profiler" tells you, not what "Software Update" tells you.
You DO need to resolve this update.
    * backup your data
    * repartition the HD using GUID
    * reinstall MacOS
    * install all updates
    * restore your data

  • MuVo "device not connected" firmware update error

When I try to execute the plan given by Pook Kok Choy (below between "=====")
    I successfully get MUVO_DRV_LB_00_04_250.exe installed.
When I move to step 2 I have the device attached to the PC but I get the message "device not connected to the USB port".
This happens, with the device connected and on while trying to install:
    MUVOAudible_PCFW__40_2_L4.exe
Apparently, I am not alone in having this problem.
Apparently, this happens to others - using XP - specifically when trying to do this firmware upgrade in order to play purchased WMA, DRM protected music.
The PC recognizes the MuVo 28.
It assigns it a dri've letter when it is plugged in.
The install procedure for the *Audible* firmware does not see it.
    Please help.
    Tbanks,

    JLRtist,
After you have installed the latest downloaded driver, did you run the player into recovery mode? Try this, press and hold the PLAY button, continue holding the button while inserting the player into the USB port for about 0-5 sec. Run the firmware update file.

  • IMac Firmware update - ERROR

    Hello all,
I'm trying to update the firmware on my Core Duo 2Ghz iMac but it dosen't work. I follow the instructions, holding the power button until the power light starts flashing, I hear the long beep, and immediately after that the startup chime. After a few seconds it goes to the gray screen, apple logo and it boot's normally. No progress indicator, no firmware update. Any suggestions?
    Thank you!
    iMac 2Ghz, 2GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Did either of you try to install the onmac XP dual
booting solution? If so, you have to completely
reformat your drive. If you plan on trying the
bootcamp solution, when you partition it, make only 1
partition, otherwise bootcamp will not work.
    Glor
Fortunately that is simply not true Glor... I put the onmac.net XP dual boot solution on my iMac and I got around it by booting to a Firewire Hardrive that had 10.4.6 and applying the firmware update from there.
If you have partitioned your hard drive this firmware might fail .. while it does not say so from my experience with other Apple firmware updaters it usually writes a firmware file to the HD and then when the computer is booted holding down the "programmers" button as they used to call it - the open firmware would look on the first partition of the first hard drive ( the default place for the OS) and read the firmware file from there.
In the case of having re-partitioned your drive - such as installing the XP solution - or other reasons this firmware would fail...
Again there are other ways than erasing your computer to fix this though such as the firewire boot device I described above.
    good luck.
