Firmware update failed - how to resolve remotely

I bought my father an Apple TV so he could subscribe and watch MLB. Everything was working fine until the Apple TV attempted to update itself. Apparently the firmware update failed.  I need to know how to remotely resolve this for him. I can access his PC remotely so I read some info that you can update Apple TV via iTunes. I also need to confirm that the USB socket on the Apple TV is a USB Mini type. I'm assuming you can just plug the Apple TV into a USB socket and then from iTunes initiate the firmware update, much like you do an iPad. He's not very technically savvy, so I need to do this for him or have him call Apple support.
Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

If he hasn't done so get him to do the old fashioned trick of unplugging teh mains power to it and restarting.
If it restarts correctly the update can be reattempted.
If it's truly bricked then return to Apple or restore using itunes will be necessary.

  • Zen Micro - firmware update failed so now "dead"

I have a firmware problem with my Zen Micro. Can anyone help?
The series of actions I have taken so far are these:
I got my Micro in January 2006. I now want to run Audible software to listen to their books so I downloaded the firmware update L6_2_2_02.exe from the Creative support site which is stated as providing the Audible?facility.
I backed up the Micro contents using Creative MeadiaSource Organiser. I then ran the firmware update from my Win XP PC. This started OK and I got a series of messages about what was happening. Then it stopped with the progress indicator bars about 2/3 across. I left it for half an hour and nothing changed so clicked to stop the update.
I checked the firmware version on the Micro and it said 2.2.02. The update?looked OK and the FM worked but of course I had no music content.
I opened my Creative MeadiaSource Organiser (v 3.0.09) but it said no device is connected so I was unable to reload the music. My XP PC recognised the Micro as connected and I checked Device Manager which showed the "device is working properly". I was also able to synch music to the Micro using Windows Media Player and this played OK. I tried another computer and could also synch using Windows Media Player but I wanted to reload my music from the backup.
I looked on the Creative site for the steps to take when a firmware update fails. The Zen Micro is not on the list as supporting the MP3 Player Recovery Tool so I did not use that. I followed the Reload Failure recovery instructions and ran Clean UP, then Format All, but this did not fix it so I ran Reload Firmware on the Micro. This was a big mistake!
Now when I try to run the firmware update from my Win XP PC, I select English then I get the message "Your player is not connected, please connect your player". I checked again and XP still recognises the Micro and the device is working. It is no longer recognised by Windows Media Player but just? appears to XP as an empty storage device.
The Micro now shows the firmware as v 0.0.65, but now it is stuck in Recovery Mode. I have contacted Creative Support but their reply is that this player is now over 3 years old, reached its end of service life, so there is no support other than on their web site. Following their web site recovery instructions got me into this mess so I guess?no extra help is offered from Creative.
The player is now essentially dead. Unless there is some way to get the firmware update program to recognise the device as connected, then I don't know how to fix this. This is a shame as it is a nice little player for my music collection.
Can anyone help as I don't know what to do next?

I have the same problem. I put the screenshots below and the errors that happen to me.I can not put him the firmware because I do not recognize the device.

You should have imported all pics taken with your iphone to your computer regularly as with any digital camera.
Did you fail to do this?
You would need to import them if you can.

  • New Bluetooth Apple Keyboard - Bluetooth Firmware Updater fails

    Hello,
I want to be able to use bluetooth to wake my MacBook Pro, I am told by the instructions I need to use the Firmware Updater, so I installed that off the CD provided but when I launch Bluetooth Firmware Updater and click update, I get this error:
    Missing Firmware
This version of the updater is missing the firmware file. Cannot proceed.
Can anybody help me with this? I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

    Hello,
I have checked the settings and they are correct but it is still not waking up properly - watching the light on the front it does look like it is trying, as it stops pulsating and goes solid but it doesn't wake up, I don't get anything displaying on the external monitor nor can I use the remote to start playing iTunes.
I wonder if this is a different problem, not just the keyboard failing to wake it up?

  • P1102w firmware update failed

    Hello.
I was trying to update the firmware for HP P1102w, and it seemed to be failed. After waiting for a long time, it ended up with the error message, "restart the power cycle and try again" or something like that.
After that, it did not appear in my network, and I lost the web interface and print capability. My rounter does not show its presence. The printer has solid purple lights on WiFi and triangle light.
I tried to way to do factory reset, but I could not find it.
I understand that firmware failed is critical. Does anybody know how to fix it?
    Thank you very much.

  • Attempted Iphone 4 update to latest firmware update "failed"

Ive attempted to update the Iphone to the latest firmware update  and it has failed 3 times, the final time it looked as though
it worked but stopped and went into new mode to go-back to Restore to old  setting. Now it is locked up and asking me for the  admin backup password
and everything I've tried is not working..  Not sure what to do at this point.
The laptop I'm using is a Panasonic CF29 and running Windows XP with SP3 installed.
I'm  open to any ideas at this point.
                Thanks Artman

Then it's pretty hopeless. Normally the error message remains displayed until you click "OK", so it's surprising that you didn't see it. You can try the shotgun approach; just try a bunch of stuff in the hopes that it will work. But first I suggest trying to update it again, and this time watch it. The following list covers the most common causes of update failures:
Open a Command window and type the command "netsh   winsock   reset"
    Reboot your computer
    Disable your antivirus and firewall
    Launch iTunes
Connect the phone using a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
When the phone is recognized in iTunes click on it, then click Restore
If the phone is NOT recognized in iTunes, disconnect it, the hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for exactly 10 seconds until the screen goes black, then release SLEEP but continue holding HOME while you connect the cable and continue holding HOME until iTunes recognizes a phone in recovery mode
If the update completes you are in business
You mentioned being prompted for a backup password. If your backup is encrypted you will need to know the password to complete the restore; if you don't know it you will have to restore as New and manually add your content back. If it is encrypted you really did enter a password for it once, whether you remember doing so or not.

  • HELP! Firmware update failed, need to extract data from unreadable iPod

Please HELP! I have important data on my iPod that I need to preserve. Here's what I did:
    * downloaded newest iPod software and used the iPod Updater. It assured me the the "Update" process does not touch songs/data on my iPod
    * clicked the Update button. The update failed, citing error writting data to disk.
    * now my iPod will not boot up (folder icon), on top of that it will not mount even in Disk Mode (claims it's unformatted).
    * iPod Updater now offers only the Restore option
I absolutelly NEED to get the data of my iPod if I am to restore it. The data should still be on the disk (even if the firmware is damadged), it's just a matter of gaining access to it.
    Any chances?
    iPod video Windows XP

    Good luck.
Sounds like a problem I had with a camera card - and I lost the pictures, and I have yet to restore the camera card - it's still dead, won't even format.
Take it someplace where they specialize in data recovery - for high fees....

Just yesterday I managed to rescue (on the last ditch attempt) a strawberry iMac DV (400MHz) that had exactly this problem. I read through the documentation suggested on this thread and discovered that it had moved all the way through to the 'Stage 4' issue; it would automatically power down about 6-7 seconds after the welcome chime. Before reading the docs I'd zapped the PRAM and removed the battery multiple times thinking I was doing the right thing, so it was well and truly stuck.
Luckily, before it died I had updated to OS 9.1 and run the firmware update, but of course you need to reboot for the update to actually be written to the chip. I'd actually given up and put it on the recycle pile, only to find myself with a spare half hour in the afternoon. This is exactly what I did to get it back to life. Note that the battery had been out for a couple of hours prior to trying this.
    1. Put on desk, upside down with all panels open, not connected to anything.
    2. Remove everything (which in this machine was just RAM - battery was already out and it had no Airport card).
    3. Put battery back in. Very old battery, so no idea if it had much charge.
    4. Pressed internal PRAM reset button once, briefly (no more than 1 second).
    5. Waited for about 20 seconds.
    6. Put a 256MB card into slot J13 that I had just pilfered from an old PC. It previously had in it two 64MB cards.
    7. Plugged into a monitor, then the mains and turned power on.
    8. Waited for about 20 seconds.
    9. Pushed in the programmers button and held it down while tapping the power button.
    10. Released programmers button when the evil beep sound happened.
I was then very surprised that it not only stayed running, but actually started the firmware update! I guess I was very lucky in that I'd managed to run the firmware application in OS 9.1 before the machine got stuck, otherwise you'd need to boot into Mac OS, run the app and then reboot a second time to get it to apply the update.
Best of luck - this iMac DV is now off to a new home instead of the bin. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it copes with OS X 10.4.11.

  • 2.28 Firmware Update Failed

I have tried twice to manually install the 2.23-2.28 Firmware update for the MIFI 4510L and both times got the message"403 software failed.  Any advice or help would be appreciated

The simple answer is to try the update from another computer, preferrably a Windows computer.
Its also a viable option to bring the MiFi into a VZW store and have them perform the update for you.  That way if your MiFi is bricked they can replace it for you on the spot instead of having to wait for one in the mail.

  • Zen Micro Photo Firmware 'Update Fail

Ive tried several things, several computers. The Zen will only boot to the firmware screen if not docked. If Docked the Zen can update but at the end, it will always say, 'Update Failed!'?I was wondering if this is the Motherboard, or the Hard-dri've. I dont hear any clicks or sounds from the hard dri've.

This all started a few days ago, the Zen was playing a nice track and then it turned off, I turned it back on thinking wtf. It came on, played for about sec then said, 'Overheating Shutting Down'?so I tried a few more times and it said the same thing, it was rather Cold outside, wierd. I went home, let it stay infront of a fan for a few hours and thats when it wouldnt even boot after that. Then I couldnt recharge the battery for some odd reason, and the update didnt want to install, So i had my old BROKEN ZEN MICRO which has the same EXACT PROBLEM, anyways, I took that battery and used it cause it charged unlike the ZEN MICRO PHOTO Battery. After that, then I installed the update, but then it gave me that problem of Update failed, so here i am now...
